I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT THIS IS GIVING "POP GOES PUNK" Which I still love to this day, and they'd be lucky to have this talented gentleman on an album-
I love showing my kids (middle school) Todd’s and Alex’s covers of songs they love and know and show them how they can be better. Happy to hear this one doesn’t have curse words!
hey, thank you so much! i've really enjoyed letting my heavy side show more over the past few months, and i think you're right. everything's better with a dash of metal!
I'm sorry, but I am putting below the lyrics the CC English has put. I know at the start it says to go into Canadian, but this is hilarious to me. (Yes I have cc on my videos, leave me alone.) I hide my crimes From the cops' UV lights No fingerprints on the scene It's a heist pulled in isolation It's a true 'fait accompli' Those gems were howling "Let this curly girl inside" I couldn't keep it in Heaven knows I tried Don't let them, in don't let them see Be the good girl you always have to be Conceal' don't feel Don't let them know Well now they know Let it go let it go Can't hold it back anymore Let it go Let it go Turn away and slam the door I don't care what they're going to say I'm released on bond The cops never bothered me anyway It's funny how some cops care About emeralds so small And De Beers that once controlled me Can't get to me at all It's time to see what i can do To test the limits and break through No right, no wrong, no rules for me I'm free :) Let it go Let it go They're sentencing me to life Let it go let it go You'll never see me cry In this cell is where I'll stay Let the storm rage on BLEGH I smuggle McFlurries through the air into The Pound security's spiraling, the guards have brain-freeze all around And one saw, helpless, bloated, as i scurried past "I'm never going back!" the past is in the past Let it go Let it go How am i gonna tell my mom? Let it go Let it go Her perfect girl is gone Here i stand in the light of day Let the storm rage on The cold never bothered me anyway P.s. Also, what's up with the chapter select titles? Silverstein - My heroine cover by todd barriage \ this drum beat is really fun \ LET IT GUUAAAHHHH \ Taking Back Elsa \ neck vein appreciation week \ Let it Go to Hell, For Heaven's Sake \ Disney slam poetry \ we all know you're here for the last chorus? P.s.s. I would also like to request you do this song again but using the lyrics above, thank you. (You also just gained a subscriber for the messed up lyrics alone)
Haha thanks for subscribing! I’m really happy you enjoyed the captions, I do subtitles like this (with varying degrees of insanity) for almost all of my videos :) The little message at the start is for people who told me they rely on subtitles to understand what’s being said/sung, so I type them out twice to make sure everyone’s happy. Default is always the fun captions! Chapter titles are another thing I like to do too, I try to make this channel more fun than just [song becomes pop punk] or whatever. I hope you enjoy my backlog of videos! Have a great day 🖤
I'm not sure if you're planning on having all your Disney covers be "super" emo, but I think an emo/post-hardcore type cover of Surface Pressure from Encanto could be the greatest song ever written if done correctly.
Yessir! Lemme tell ya, when I heard you were going the Disney song direction, I wasn't stoked. But you absolutely nailed it as usual. Any and every song sounds great through your styling.
i'm so grateful you gave this a shot, and happy you enjoyed it! 💙 i try my best to NEVER drop a song i don't think is cool and fun and worth listening to, which is why my uploads are so inconsistent. if a song isn't happening i just scrap it instead of forcing out cOnTeNt
@toddbarriage I'm gonna check out what you drop no matter what! In my mind I was sort of like "eehh, so many people have covered Disney songs before (shoutout papa JoYo)". But this cover does NOT just blend in with the crowd. This was a great cover!! Big fan
@@blunderbass851 I’ve wanted to cover Disney songs for a LONG time, but I’ve held off for the exact reasons you initially felt wishy-washy about me doing it! Everyone’s done Disney to death, and Joyo 100% perfected the Disney Cover I waited until I had My Sound™️ figured out so that I can go full-send with it, and be as Todd as possible. The hope is that approach will warrant my versions’ existence in the seas of mediocre Disney covers floating under a shining Joyo sun. Really happy that’s working for you :)
This might be my favorite cover you've done so far. All the little pieces of your arrangement fall into the right spots in the very few wrinkles my brain has.
“And the beers that once controlled me, can’t get to me at all” and “I smuggle McFlurries through the air into the pound, Security’s spiraling, the guards have brain-freeze all around” are Epic! 😂
What a time to be alive. To be able to casually view extended musical talent on a whim is seriously insane. Great job with this, it's amazing what you do, keep doing it.
I'm really starting to feel old... Back in my day this would have been called Alternative or maybe even punk, but calling it EMO would have been an insult. Either way I dig it, but man the terminology has really changed.
haha thanks for checking this out, i'm glad you enjoyed it! don't feel too old!! 'super emo' is a troll subgenre i made up last year for a bunch of my videos. it's composed of all the genres people call emo, but aren't 'real' emo, all blended together :) it loosely spans the range from pop punk to metalcore and everything in between
i love the implication that i ever make things that *aren’t* shitposts hahaha 🖤 thanks for being you!! really appreciate you swinging by whenever i drop stuff
Ive heard probably around 20 covers of this song into Metalcore, Pop Punk and Post-Hardcore, but you nailed the Post-Hardcore part perfectly. The super emo covers you make are probably the songs im looking forward the most.
Thank you so much for participating in the March Caprice concert this year!! This was such an incredible interpretation, and folks lost their minds hearing it for the first time. Really outstanding work!!!
Dude thank you for HAVING me! It was incredible watching the concert stream & hearing the variety of production styles and genres, all with such unwavering talent and dedication. I wish I know about MC sooner! It’s inspiring just to watch, and humbling to get to be a part of
THIS ROCKED SO HARD!!!! Absolutely killer rendition. The only part that seemed off-genre was that l pre-chorus: really hard to make it sound emo and could've used a key change or something. But the main chorus was so gnarly! The dissident rhythm of the "let it go" is so damn hype. Amazing work on this! First time listener, new subscriber
Hilarious. I literally was like "but this song is already emo...just upbeat Disney version...like Motion City Soundtrack." 🤣 Definitely needed the screaming to make it legit emo. Well done.
I've heard tons of pop punk covers of this but damn this works. And those high notes. Crispy goodness for my ear holes. Also Thanks for giving us another great "BLEGH" 😂
1:42 😭 It’s so 🤬in beautiful… So precise and clean. Very detailed. Way better than betraying the martyrs version of it…. Because it’s dialed in on emotional impact rather than trying so damn hard to be a BOSS… Just preserves that impact and goes HARD on it…. I think that’s one guy doing it all. Hell yeah, if that’s the case. Damn, you remind me of myself in a couple years… I can do all that only my voice is damaged from oral surgery. Can’t wait for everything to heal back up so I can get out there with you. So jealous…. I’ve heard cover artists bore me to death but you bring LIFE into these already living songs. You’re going places… You’re working smart not hard. You have the mind of a living legend in the making. Keep it up man.
24 seconds in and it’s totally on point. Your vocalist is just BOMBING that mic. Trembles and vibrato to the point it sounds like a squished bugs dying last words. I mean, all the force is in the impact and delivery. It gives me goosebumps, chills, and it jerks tears. I don’t know if that’s because I’m a recording artist and I understand the years and years of hard-work and sacrifice that gets poured into this stuff…. Or if I feel that way because that’s just how impactful it is. Or, both. Watch out Jarod Dines and Steve T because these guys know what the hell they’re doing. Blown away, this is already better than betraying the myrters cover of it. And that’s impressive.
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say your using my reverse engineered writing and production process or you drew the same or similar conclusions I did, because all of it is illustrating a visual performance. If you are using my process, Thank God it works for more than just me. I write the title of the song, purpose, reason, meaning, what the song is going to be about. Then I do a visual storyboard of the music video on paper, I plan to use Previs pro at some point. Then I write a list of hooks I want in the song for the sake of IMPACT. Breakdowns, temp changes, time signature changes, break and holds, acoustic segments, anything I think might be excellent contributions to throwing down a precise auditorial illustration. I then create a notational storyboard using the circle of fifths app on my phone so that each segment of the song has the exact impact that the auditorial illustration needs. I do the bpm in a pace that is consistent with the story board. I turn off the ping in ping click click click and do the count in my head with a sterile metronome to keep track of the grid not the bpm. I accapella a rough draft of the entire song. Do the drum tracks. The strings. The keyboards, loops, fillers, and such. Then importantly… I do the vocal phrasing and the vocal phrasing alone…. Just to get the sound of what the vocals are going to be doing. Then I write the lyrics in 3 to 10 different versions along with the phrasing until I have a perfect set of lyrics. I do the vocal tracks. Mix, use Emastered…. Then I’m pretty much onto the next one. Four and a half minute songs all originals tend to take me about… 72 hours… 24 to 48 hours of writing and recording time at the least… Just for one song on the fly on the top of my head…. Got the idea from Fantasia… I was studying classical music with movies watching how the music illustrated what was going on the TV… And then it hit me… Do the videos first… I started getting heavy in Danny Elfman and studying the way he produced music for Tim Burton. It lead me down a path that helped me reconstruct a process that’s probably been around since the dawn of time. Took my stupid butt 15 years to reinvent the wheel from scratch.
Please tell me the closed captions lyrics are INTENTIONAL. Because it became a song about being stuck in a cell for smuggling McFlurries. Cops cared too much about small emeralds and De Beers controlled me.
@@toddbarriageno way you actually responded!!! i've been in love with you remixing everything as well as the when we were young linups! introduced me to several new bands. Thanks a lot!
This is excellent! really enjoyed it! Thank you random youtube algorithm and thank you Todd P.S. keep the subtitles to English, it's so funny :D "about emeralds so small and De Beers that once controlled me"
