@@philpotter4620 there are not many options here in Wichita that are worth dealing with anymore. The big companies came in and bought them out years ago. I think we have 3 Advanced Auto locations that are never convenient to get to, AutoZone's here smell like a dirty gym bag for some reason and the prices/parts are no better than O'Really? so yeah. Our last option is Poorman's Auto but their customer service is to be avoided. They treat everyone like they just tracked mud into their pristine white carpet. Most of my parts come from O'Really or Stealerships for OEM. Some jobs I hit out of state vendors and ship it in.
No more filming inside o'reillys - guessing from district management or corp put an end to that - JR using the store computer instead of an employee probably got noticed - all good things come to an end
This channel doesn't stop with cars all this nerdy goodness on the side is really fascinating so fun to watch this fantasy factory come to life and still have time to put all these cars togethor
You should look at being an agent for a battery manufacturer, you could buy at wholesale prices and keep stock, as well as making a profit on any you sell.
I've had a 2012 Jaguar xjl for 4 or so years now. And the dealership I had work on it 2 summer ago, lent me one of these XC90s to drive for the weekend. When I walked outside and saw it, I was not impressed. At all. These things are horrendous looking. BUT When I sat inside, and drove it, I realized why people call Volvos, "Perfect Cars". -Just enough power to pass most traffic, and be slightly fun -Not overly comfortable, but just right enough for long hauls. -Volvos awd is leagues ahead of the awd system on my XJL, as I was able to take off with almost no spin(It was winter) -And the sound insulation was on par with my Jag. Couldn't hear any wind noise at all. -The sound system wasn't top notch, like B&O or Bowers And Wilkins, but it was just right. The XC90 is the Goldilocks of Suv/Crossover/Luxury, and was basically on top of its' segment, a decade before that segment was flooded. I've actually been thinking about getting one as a second vehicle lol Moral of the story. Just drive one of these things. I wanted to hate it, but ended up falling in love.
My wife had the same car (same color as well). The thing that will make your jaw drop is how easy to get those headlight assemblies out of that Volvo. It is simple genius.
might wanna pressure test that heater core before you go ripping the dash apart, that hose was leaking bad enough I could see the water making it inside the cabin
I suppose "Let's look at dead ants, find a coolant leak, set up a whiteboard, back to more leaks, clean the floors, and review a plastic slider!" is too long of a video title. 😆
@@WatchJRGo Absolutely the V8 is better. I had the V8 XC90 and now have a Merc GL450. The 4.5 is buttery, but that Yamaha V8 on the XC sounded so much better. Also, not being a hater, but there's 0% chance you can sell the T6 for $7k unless the used market really has gotten absolutely nuts. These have multiple failure points and have an absolutely trash reputation in the Volvo community. Pre-pandemic you could pick these up under $1k all day. Side note - I sold my old V8 XC90 for about $1k with 130k miles on it right at the start of the pandemic. It needed a suspension refresh and the 2nd round of valve cover gaskets within 20k miles. Even just the suspension refresh essentially totaled the car.
If you want to know what year a vehicle is (especially when at junk yards), simply look at the label stitched on the seatbelt strap, near the housing. It should list the year it was manufactured.
As others have mentioned, the large amount of batteries and fluids you run through, maybe you could get battery and oil sponsors and have a supply of both always on hand so you could avoid all these trips to O'Riley s and paying retail for all this. Not to mention time spent going back and forth and wear and tear on the truck.
We have a few of those 55" Elo touchscreens at work, with the backpack computers installed. Knowing how much these things cost and watching you drill a hole in it hurt me a little bit lol
you don't own the screens at work or at jr's shop so why feel anything? 🙄 young people scare and confuse me..all sorts of weird, pointless feelings for irrelevant bullshit but no empathy for things that actually matter...
Joe, not knowing what is on the bottom of the track if there is room, I think that you can make it more stable by trying to glue a long flat bar of metal under the slider to stiffen the track. it might work?
I'm loving the XC90 content. Mine has the D5 engine (5 cylinder diesel) with the Aisin 5 speed auto which is relatively bulletproof compared to the GM transmission.
@Robert Anna The D5s are generally bulletproof. I know injectors can be a problem. The Aisin is a much better transmission than the GM one. A diesel is then only way I can afford to run an XC90 with the high cost of fuel over here.
@Robert Anna Didn't the 4.4 V8 have an issue with the balancer shaft? I saw one for sale recently and it's peaking my interest. That or a BMW X5 4.8i with new valve stem seals.
You can't just go to your local hardware store and buy a 4x8 sheet of white board for like $20 bucks? I used to work in the millwork department of our local home improvement store and we had loads of that stuff.
Change all of your o rings on all of your hoses. They’re cheap enough on fcp euro and it’s a “while you’re there” maintenance item on these cars. I hope you don’t have to change your serpentine belt.
Last year I had some paint work done on my conversion van and when I got it back from the body shop it was full of ants! Ack!!! I set out 8 of those Raid ant traps and thankfully that did the trick. Every one of those traps was full of ants. I set out another 8 ant traps and they had some ants in them but not as many. I kept doing that until the ants were gone. What a fiasco!
Not all I just replaced the battery in my 06 v50 that has premium sound and it was a lead acid battery still. Even that it still cost almost 190 for that one. Same series he just put in the XC90. It's one of the big ouches of ownership
The battery is meant to have a plastic cover that goes over it before you put on the upper metal retainer. no plastic cover = risk of a short and a fire. Also, $7k for a first year T6 is extremely optimistic
As many batteries as you buy, I’d think getting a battery rack in your shop would save you a ton of cash. Get a list of your 5-6 most popular numbers and stock them!
JR, you should work with a local battery recycler \ rebuilder and see if they can set you up with some refurbished batteries in exchange for all your old ones. Could save you a few bucks.
Upgrade the moonroof drainage pipes behind the pillar covers of the front windshield. The problem is the L- fitting at the end that clogs causing the water to bachup and into the car. You can eliminate that fitting by replacing the pipe completely with clear hose from home improvement or hardwear store. just make it longer. and also by wider. This kept happening to my xc90 till I did this. Good luck
also place a piece of 7/8 heat shrink over where the hose and elbow meet and shrink it down to lock them together. Over time the hoses shrink slightly and want to pop out of the elbow when you go over a bump
@@KarmaTiger keeping that elbow is the whole problem. That elbow is considered a bad design in the drainage system of the moonroof. It was designed with the end of the elbow pinched together to ward off bugs from getting in. That pinched end traps all the debris then the water backs up and into the car. Also that original pipe that runs from the top of the roof and connects to the elbow tends to shrink over time and pop off from the elbow causing the water to drain into the footwell of the front of the car. Your correct in recommending the shrink wrap to avoid that from happening but if it is held in place at the elbow and the tube shrinks, it most likely pop off at the top. That's why I just purchased wider guage clear pipe (reason for clear pipe is to check every so often and look at the condition it's in) and increased the length of where the elbow was and also 3" more and fed that out through where the elbow attached to the frame of the car to drain. That stupid drain system caused my headliner the pull away like JR G's XC90 and more, yet the fix was so simple.
Years ago I got a couple of dirt cheap pinto wagons to try to make a work and stupidity car out of them. One had a bad auto transmission, other ran perfectly but wouldn't hold water. I was told the block was cracked but was hoping for a quick block seal fix. I got some cheap quarts of Sodium Silicate, old timers call it water glass. I got the engine good and hot and started pouring it in mixed with water. It just kept pouring back out and I had what looked like rusty icicles hanging under the car from the engine. It had 3 cracks going vertically up the block and the stuff kept pouring out before it could completely set and block them up. I gave up but maybe some heat proof screen would have done the trick. I finally sold them to my crazy neighbor and he got one of them running cheap for himself and they weren't my problem anymore.
The small fitting is bleeder for the coolant a common leak on the I6 xc90s they are pita but can be fixed for like 12 bucks and have fun working on that its a tight fit
Interesting…my 2004 T6 has an H8. Must be because this is a pretty beggar spec tier T6. Also, it’s not really a strut brace. It’s mounted with rubber bushings and let’s the chassis flex a LOT. It’s just an upper engine torque mount. IPD sells a billet mount to replace the bushings and it SERIOUSLY improves the handling.
I bought a couple of white boards at an auction for ... I don't even remember what the company made, they did some kind of fab work, maybe heat and a/c systems. But they closed and the local auction guy came in to empty the place. $5 each.
I was like yay when you found you leak's then you mentioned the under the dash leak and my heart sank. I own a v50 wagon and the heater core let go at the end of last winter so I just by passed it but I live in Florida so no big deal but I am curious how to disconnect those factory lines for when I finally do get to replace mine so if you could show how they come apart when you do replace then that would be great. Love your channel and look forward to seeing what you do next.
I'm looking forward to seeing this one get fixed J.R, hope this one doesn't take ages though! Did I see somewhere that you got to drive your R8? Just think of the content you could put out if it is actually fixed and driving OK? I would be glued to my screen lol 😁
I'm a new viewer to your channel and I'm enjoying what I have seen so far so thank you for sharing with us, so on your slider issue could you get someone to print you up some extra legs to prop up the slider on a 3d printer, that might stabilise it another 3 or 4 legs would do the trick for you. Kind regards from Scotland
I hate all those stupid parts that can break like that. They can be so hard to source out. I had a CRX and broke a vacuum manifold I couldn't find a replacement for so I had to glue it.
If you really want to trade for anything I’ve got a 2008 Chevy Aveo. 80 k miles runs and drives but needs some love. Mostly ECU issues that I don’t have the tools to fix. Comes with uninstalled upgrades.
I'm a shop teacher and have always wanted to make my own white board out of a late 80s Camaro or Dodge Daytona rear hatch. I want to stand out on end and weld legs and casters onto it. Then just paint the glass white on the inside. The heart lines in the glass would double as lines to write on.
Well apparently you should buy stocks in the company or companies that make the batteries you're constantly buying or buy a battery company -- one of the two for sure. 😎
