I would say the fridge changed the ripeness/flavor. I’ve never imagined doing that to a papaya… papaya, fig avocado…. All about the natural ripening… max flavor . Great video . Devils in the details with these fruits
Tropicalfarmer here. I gave it a thumbs up because your reaction is raw and real for a first timer and honestly quite hillarious when you ate the seeds.
Haha! You should watch the video about the rotten soursop I tried... I didn’t want to post the reaction because I felt bad about saying bad things about the fruit.
I've wanted to like papaya for years, but gave up on it because it is a pretty disappointing fruit as far as taste and smell go, especially for being so beautiful, luscious and heralded. I recently decided to revisit papaya to give it another try and possibly figure out what bothers me so much about it. When cut open it is deceivingly stunning with all the beautiful hues and color contrasts of the fruit and seeds. All of the papaya varieties I've tried so far have been pretty bland, with no real sweetness or tanginess, or even a basic fruit flavor. What it does sometimes have - probably depending on variety and ripeness - is a weird, off-putting creamy, cheesy smell that I expected might draw flies. It is what probably deterred me from giving it a chance back in the day. I realized that the fruit gets a hint of a smell from the seeds, which have a chemical taste and smell similar to that of a Sharpie marker. What I've been doing lately is peeling the whole thing, cutting it in chunks, and either eating it straight or blending into a drink as It adds extra thickness and body. I've been trying to keep it in my diet because it seems to help with digestion and possibly with losing weight, which I believe comes from the enzymes and fiber. I just bought a golden papaya, so I came here to see what you thought it tasted like. I appreciated your candid reaction and comments about it, LOL! So true! 😅👍 Update: I cut into the golden papaya and it had the best smell of any I have had - fruity, kind of like an apricot - and and was actually sweet! It was ripe, but not overly so. Hopefully they're all like that.
Seeds are medicinal… anti parasitic . Planted 4 of these golden varieties… hopefully I can overwinter them successfully z I like this fruit for health benefits
