(Part 1 of 3) We take you to one of our favorite places, the historic & amazing Fruit & Spice Park in Homestead, FL. This impressive display of large tropical fruits is a sight to behold, so until you can come visit in person- let's take you on a virtual trip to learn about the diversity of edible species at this 40acre park in their full glory. Disclaimer: You are not allowed to pick the fruit off of the trees at the Fruit & Spice Park. The fruit that you see us eating in this series of videos is from the ground. Also, we should mention that you should not eat anything from the ground, if you are not 100% sure what it is.

A few people have had questions about picking fruit & why that's not allowed. They probably would share the fruit from the trees more, if the people visiting the park for more respectful of the art & purpose of the trees. The trouble is that uneducated people strip the trees, steal the more rare fruit before it's ripe (the cacao pod was just taken the day before we were there) & other individuals take it as far as leaving random fruits around the park - which could actually be very dangerous. The example I can give to this is that somebody left an *unripe Ackee fruit* under the passionfruit vine on the other side of the park. For those who don't know, unripe/unprepared Ackee fruit is toxic. There are always rules for a good reason. We ask that if you do visit the park, that you keep this all in mind.

Pete, I really appreciate you pinning this comment. I have seen so many videos that show people walking/ running through the park shaking tree limbs for fruit. It was nice to see you and your friends/ family set an example. Really enjoyed the videos, always looking forward to the next.

You're very right Pete. My only wish is that the park itself could bring in persons to harvest ripe fruits to share. If they had volunteers to do the job and keep & eye on the volunteers picking. Then all of that food wouldn't go to waste. Such a waste to see so much food just rot away. A shame really. That happens all over the world...

You can't let everyone help themselves and experiment at the price of the greater project even if nothing was ever toxic...I know I'd be driven crazy if folks were---say picking stuff way too early thus wasting it.

Right? We go with a knife, spoon and wet wipes! You are only allowed to eat fruit that has fallen, but there are plenty. If there are not, take the tour, it is fantastic and you will learn SO much! They will often take ripe fruit and allow everyone to try a bite.

8/1/2019 awesome Pete just awesome I am binge watching again I saw all three parts of this series (fruit & spice park)and I must say this is what I want to do with my Permaculture farm but more dense and with signs identifying every tree every fruit tree vegetable plants and let people come in and see at the same time it's my Permaculture farm that will feed me and my family and sell fruit trees to anyone whom wants to start there own Permaculture farm it's amazing how green everything looks and how funny it is to me that green happens to be my favorite color mmmm men you know I'd be in heaven when I kick start my Permaculture farm grand job señor Pete👍👍👍👍👍 ✌peace✌ btw I'm gonna make that song dream dream dream my theme song for my farm hey you should to because you already call your videos greendream freaking awesome brother I'm gonna dream my life away in permaculture farm

We go here all the time. It is fantastic and different every week! While you are there, DO NOT miss out on the cinnamon rolls at Knauss berry farm nearby! The line gets long, totally worth it! Also not to miss, Robert is here, farm stand. They make an enormous list of shakes and smoothies, from rare and exotic fruits they grow. You will see fruit you have never seen before. The shake flavors are Banana, blackberry, cherry, chocolate, coconut, key lime, orange, papaya, passion fruit,pineapple, tamarind, strawberry,black sapote, blueberry,canister, coffee,dragon fruit, guava, jackfruit, mamey, mango sapadillo and guansbana. You can even have it sweetened with cane sugar, grown in FloridaThey use the fresh fruit in your shake and they are incredible. There is also an animal farm and play area No, I have no ties to these businesses. I just make sure I hit all three when I am in the area!.

I have a dilemma. I was given a lychee tree several years ago that was at least 5 years old at the time. Problem is that it the guy who gave it to me grew it from seed. I was ignorant of the fact at the time that lychees grown from seed never produce or take forever to do so. i would hate to remove it because it has established itself where i planted it and it is a beautiful tree but i dont wanna waste time with it if it wont produce. what would you do?

Just get someone to graft a good known variety on to it. Maybe you could ask some of the fruit tree nurseries if any of their grafters can sort you out.

Jeff yes it's most likely the lack of chill hours below 68 degrees. We also had a really dry winter.

Let me get this straight. You can't pick fruit, but you can take cuttings ? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You can only take cuttings, by request & you would need to be pre-approved for research. Most of the places we have featured work the same way. Correct - You CAN'T pick the fruit from the trees, but you can eat it off of the ground, as long as you know (for sure) what you are eating. There was quite a lot of it on the ground this time of the year & that's even after a really busy weekend at the park.

I'm not dishonest, and actually owned my own business before.My question was to Pete, and I hate it when people like you sadly interrupt and start stuff for no reason other then that , you love to troll. The reason I ask is that Pete seems well educated and may hold a title I'm not aware of. His channel is new, and although I follow it, I Don't know anything about his history.

Isn't citronella a variety of lemongrass? She said it wasn't lemongrass...

Clay Glenn - cymbopogon citriatus (lemongrass) vs Cymbopogon nardes (Citronella). Same genus, different species. Not just a variety difference. Botany is some pretty complex stuff sometimes :/

Hmmm, from Wikipedia: "Cymbopogon, better known as lemongrass. Some species (particularly Cymbopogon citratus) are commonly cultivated as culinary and medicinal herbs because of their scent, resembling that of lemons (Citrus limon). Common names include lemon grass, lemongrass, barbed wire grass, silky heads, citronella grass, cha de Dartigalongue, fever grass, tanglad, hierba Luisa, or gavati chahapati, amongst many others." Seems to imply that the entire genus is known as "lemongrass" with many varieties, including citronella.

Whoever is behind that camera really needs to learn how to shoot videos. STOP moving around so fast. It makes the viewer dizzy. Learn how to "SLOW" pan. Stop jerky and fast movements. Better yet, use a tripod! Gee-sh...

everyone knows you're not suppose to pick fruit of the trees at fruit and spice park, so why film yourselves on a private tour picking fruit?? Silly and irresponsible. And of course ironic when coupled with your notice!

We did NOT film ourselves picking fruit in the park. You are allowed to eat it off of the ground, however. We needed to add the disclaimer not to pick because we forgot to mention that when recording it. All the fruit you see us tasting was OFF OF THE GROUND. My mistake - we should have added that to the disclaimer, as well. We will be put it into the video description. Not irresponsible, just busy & don't have time to spend weeks combing over all the little details in the video's screen notes. We are trying to stay on a daily schedule with posting footage for anyone who APPRECIATES the places we get to take them through the lens.
