Hi diana, I'm amazed you bothered to peel the skin, I've never heard of anyone bothering to do that with loquat before as the skin is perfectly edible and tastes fine just like an apricot or peach, I bought some fresh imported ones from the local Turkish shop this week. I'd say your fruits could do with ripening longer on the tree, I think they will get way sweeter and tastier 🙂
@alanmercieca3086
@alanmercieca3086 5 лет назад
Based upon my research it depends on the variety and how ripe the fruit is, some can have horrible peel. Also a lot of people, even people who grow up with loquats they don't pick them completely ripe.
@GardenloveHomestead
@GardenloveHomestead 5 лет назад
Really, I've never tried to eat the skin. I'll try one tomorrow. thank you for letting me know. I've never seen them at the store, happy to hear that you found some. I hope they were sweet and tasty. Yes, I left the rest of the fruit on the tree, hopefully they get a little sweeter. I was just excited to show you guys. however the fruit wasn't bad at all. I love sour taste! I was also afraid the birds might bet to them before I did, so I had to try one. :)
@GardenloveHomestead

That is a good point, I wonder now if the skin will taste different based on the state of ripe. I like to taste that theory. thank you for your feedback. @@alanmercieca3086

@@GardenloveHomestead As they are imported from somewhere unknown I'll never know what variety they are but they seem to be fairly ripe when I get them, the skin seems to be edible on these but I can imagine some varieties might have tough or bitter skin. Watching your video, the skin on yours looked very thin so might be fine to eat. I love the sweet but tangy taste combination that loquats seem to have. Normally I just wash them and break or cut them in half and pop out the seeds. Sometimes I eat the membrane that's next to the seeds as it seems to taste ok, maybe it's a bit tougher than the flesh 😁

Gosh I use to climb the loquat tree at my church when I was little and grabbed a bunch and ate them while service was going on. Every Sunday you would find me in the loquat tree. I was around 8 years old. I am now 64. I just bought a Big Jim loquat tree. It’s 3 feet tall in a pot. I hope I live long enough to see its fruit. I love loquats skin and all.

OmG!!! How am I just now seeing this video???? OH CRAPPPPP! LOOK AT ALL OF THE FRUIT! 👀 I didn’t have as much fruit because my trees were suffering in the place where I planted them. Hopefully I will have a nice harvest like this next season after I moved them to their new locations. This is one of my favorite fruits of all time! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂 I just heard my name! 🤣 It looks amazing!!! I can’t believe how much fruit that it’s giving you to be so compact! 😲 Did your airlayer ever turn out? I just did 2 airlayer on one of my trees and took cuttings and jammed them in the ground. Fingers crossed 🤞 so far so good😉

Hi Lead, how are you doing? Hownis your back? This tree made me really happy this growing season. I think I scare the loquats out of it. I made a video saying i was thinking about giving it away and started fresh with grafted loquat lol 😂🤣.. I saw your video of you and little lead moving the trees! Your the king of transplanting trees. Im sure they will love their new spot! Im sure you will have an awesome harvest next year. The more I think about it I really want to put this baby in the ground, I had a good harvest but I want Loquats for days 😅. This is one fruit I cant have enough of.

This is amazing!! I’m from kenya originally and we grow these in kenya and I used to eat them all the time as a kid. We ate them with the skin on. They’re a little tart but the more they ripen the sweeter they get. I’m so so happy to see you grow them!

Hi that's what I keep hearing, I've never had them with the skin. I tried it but they weren't as sweet as without the skin lol. I dont mind peeling it, it actually makes me look forward to it even more lol. Do you have a tree or more near you? I grew up eating these as well, I think that is why I love them so much. I watched a video in which the person said that Loquats loose the green at the bottom when fully ripe. If a loquat is sweet before then, then it's a sweet and great variety that does not require full ripeness to be sweet.

Thats a good tip, I would if its true. I will check the rest of the fruit. As a kid when I would eat them I would just check the color the darker they are the sweetest they are. I was surprised that this 1st one was pretty sweet. I'm pretty happy with the flavor. Thank you for sharing have a blesses day!

These trees are prolific. It's February, and new loquat are sprouting in my yard. I have to pull them out. They grow like weeds. Imagine that last summer, my tree had fruit. Birds ate the fruit, the seeds dropped to the floor. And somehow the seeds were able to remain dormant, through the fall, and into the winter, until the conditions were absolutely perfect. Soil was damp enough from rainfall, the sun & moon in alignment, enough worms came along, ate the fruit, left the worm castings....... I don't know. But they sprouted and grew in the middle of winter. Look for the tree. Anywhere there is a tree growing wild, there will be seedlings sprouting.

@@GardenloveHomesteadFunny. As you replied to my comment, my uncle and sister came over, and neither of them wanted the little trees. They texted other friends and family. I had even had containers for them to take the little trees away. I would have delivered them. Nobody wants these trees. I pulled out and composted 12 more today. Did you buy your tree? I'm just curious what they sell for at the retail price. Since I compost a few dozen every year.
