The opening for this playlist could not be other than this: Prelude of Ben-Hur, by the famous Miklós Rózsa, who won a well-deserved Oscar in 1959. We identify in it the magnificence of the Roman Empire in the motif of the Anno Domini, the heroism of the gladiators in the Parade of the Aurigas and the passionate love in the Theme of Esther. A perfect piece to start off with.

La bienvenida de esta playlist no podría ser otra que esta: Prelude de Ben-Hur, del célebre Miklós Rózsa que consiguió un merecidísimo Oscar en 1959. Identificamos en él la grandiosidad del Imperio Romano en el motivo del Anno Domini, el heroísmo de los gladiadores en el Desfile de los Aurigas y el amor apasionado en el Tema de Esther. Un tema perfecto para abrir boca.

I was 14 when I first saw this movie in 1959 at the Lowes State Theatre in New York City. I took the Long Isaland Railroad into the city just to see this film. As the overture began, I was astonished at the sound and the beauty of this music. Seeing this film on the big screen has been a memory I have cherished all my 78 years.

Miklos Rozsa is the best film composer ever , his classical music is superb too, God Bless him. The best recording on CD is a Tadlow recording by James Fitzpatrick, the City of PAGUE Philharmonic Orchestra Conducted by Nic Raine. A truly wonderful performance.

La banda sonora de Ben-Hur es majestuosa. Esta interpretación arranca bien con los temas del Anno Domini y luego el de Judá Ben-Hur, en su correcto tempo. Pero el tema que viene a continuación,el tema de amor entre Ben-Hur y Ester, no está bien enlazado con el tema anterior y se interpreta demasiado lento. Habitualmente se intrrpreta con un tempo más rápido, especialmente en las grabaciones originales que hizo Miklòs Rózsa, en 1959, para la película. Es habitual que esto suceda cada vez que se intrrpreta esta pieza, la cual es más difícil de interpretar de lo que se cree. Además de las grabaciones originales de Rózsa ya ciitadas (Ben-Hur original soundtrack Film Score Monthly) tal vez la mejor versiòn de esta pieza sea la de la John Wilson Orchestra para un concierto PROMS en el Royal Alvert Hall. Es una versión sublime , muy fiel al espíritu del compositor y a los tempi de la partitura original.

Exacto... El tema de amor entre Juda y Esther es más rápido por el instrumento que la dirige más no en los tiempos que se demuestran rápidos en esta canción. Gran detalle su aportación, me nutro de sus aportes

From MIKLOS ROZSA's notes from the MGM BEN-HUR Soudtrack of 1959: DR. ROZSA: THE PRELUDE places the listener immediately in the atmosphere of the period of BEN-HUR. After the opening motif, which appears later in the picture, in all the places connected with the Christ, the Christ theme appears majestically, underling that this is "A Tale of the Christ." Throughout the picture, everytime the Christ appears or his name is mentioned, the sound of an organ is heard, which then becomes associated with him. The heroic BEN-HUR theme follows, and then the love theme of Ben-Hur and Esther. The victorious Ben-Hur theme returns and the Prelude ends strongly with the opening motif.

No puedo evitar emocionarme y llorar al escuchar esta overtura, sobre todo por la expresión tan bonita que se puede pronunciar al mismo tiempo que suenan las notas de la melodía 🎶Fa, Mi , Do , Re , La#🎶Puede disfrutar el concierto que ofreció en Madrid la FSO titulado Krypton, donde interpretaron también una partitura del mismo autor , Miklos Rozsa, en concreto la de la película "El Cid". Ambas composiciones son maravillosas. ¡Gracias!👍

Not to be too much of a stickler, but I believe the music being played is the main title sequence. Not the prelude. I've never heard any orchestra perform the prelude in a live concert setting. Whenever they play music from the motion picture, they almost always play the main title sequence which was visually created by Pacific Title and features the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in a slow zoom.

I must have heard this overture a thousands times, but this conductor came about as close to the original Rozsa score as any I have witnessed. From his outstanding control of tempo, to his measured yet passionate conducting, this was pure perfection. If there was just one distraction I could find, it was his remarkable resemblance to Matt LeBlanc of "Friends"!!
