I fell in love with the Latin Mass when I finally attended a LM in 2022. Night and day difference in worship from the Novus Ordo. As a convert to Catholicism 30 years ago, I'm finally receiving the fullness of the faith. God Bless.
I enjoy praying and singing at my Novus Ordo mass but I’ve read so many comments like yours. I can’t imagine preferring the LM in a language I don’t understand although I do love learning Latin prayers. During Lent, my church sang the Holy Holy and Lamb of God in Latin which I now know. I even pray part of the Hail Mary in Latin. But the whole mass? I would love to read comments as to why people prefer the LM. There’s only small church in my city, about a 30 min drive, that has a Latin mass. It’s at 8:00am which is very early for me after working a third shift job.
@@jemsmom97 in my opinion the latin of the latin mass isn't why we prefer it because even the novus ordo all in latin it is not the same rite. the preciseness, the atmosphere. nothing can be added or taken away. its a completely different experience. i would find a solemn high mass on youtube to watch.
@@jemsmom97 It has far more to do with the theology of the TLM over the NO. It is no secret that the NO was put together by liturgists who were no experts in their field, with the help of protestants. By changing the prayers of the Mass, you change the faith. The NO was designed to encourage protestants back to the Church, by removing as much as possible that would be a stumbling block for them. In so doing, the watered down the faith, and the consequences were not the flooding into the Church of protestant converts, but the exodus of catholics out of the Church. Also, latin being a 'dead' language preserves the liturgy from issues related to how language and words change over time. Latin is not a preference but an obvious choice for any Catholic who is informed re the changes introduced at Vat2 and afterwards by so called experts who sought to destroy the Faith. The fruits of the Church of the New Advent are plain to see. Come back to the TLM, the liturgy of the vast majority of saints throughout the centuries.
@@jemsmom97I understand about the early time being difficult. As I get older, these bones don’t sleep well at night and get up rather late in the morning. We only have access to TLM once a month, on a Sunday evening, where I live. But, when I am in my home in (I don’t want to say the name of the State for fear of losing the blessing), I have access to TLM in the evening ( around supper time - so I eat early). It is a 50 minute drive but worth every second of the drive. I have access to this Mass 6 evenings a week. How blessed! I was young when the NO Mass moved into town but I always remembered the reverence of the TLM. I am slowly learning to follow my expensive (worth every cent) missal. I do know many of my prayers in Latin (there are RU-vid videos to help - but, I have found that once I’ve mastered the pronunciations -thanks Dr.Taylor Marshall- praying the Rosary with Cardinal Burke on You Tube gives me the best practice. Again, you tube videos abound in following the missal, saying the prayers, etc. Once you recognize the reverence and symbolism, and tradition that is involved in the Latin Mass, there’s no turning back.
@@FaithfullyPatriotic that was our reaction last November 2020. It literally brings me to tears to hear the beautiful chants. It's by the grace of God we have been brought to the forefront of the battle for our Mass .
It wasnt traditional mass when I was young It was Christ's mass partly from the Jews and partly from Rome. God became man and He instituted the Sacraments. Jews had true worship they worshipped the Messiah in advance but, they had the Symbolic Paschal Lamb Sacrifice . The Jewish Passover prayers that Jesus attended with His Apostles on the night He was betrayed are in the Tridentine Mass. No Human can change the Sacraments instituted by Jesus Christ. The words said in the Temple are His Death Prayers. Why did the Temple fall? The Jews didn't recognize He was the Messiah and the Paschal Lamb had to go because He is the Lamb. Also they rejected Jesus Christ before Pilate when they said "We have no King but Caesar " It was drummed into Catholics at school in Ireland that the Tridentine is the Perpetual Sacrifice and can't be changed yet, most without question changed. Scripture Shortly after the Jews gain Israel the Perpetual Sacrifice will be removed and the Abomination of Desolation replaced therin then comes the end of time for the Gentiles. Jews got Israel in 1948 Vatican11 Imposters and Apostates and Hirelings 1963.
As someone who regularly attends the Mass of Pope St. Paul VI (Novus Ordo) I’m incredibly grateful for the FSSP. They are keeping the Missal of 1962 alive without causing scandal or division in Holy Mother Church. Thank you for doing the work of God. God bless
I didn’t get to grow up at this time. I was baptized as a Novus Ordo, but luckily with this video it simply explains the beauty of the mass of the saints
am a huge proponent of the TLM but have trouble agreeing it is "easy to follow" if you've never been exposed to it. what it requires is some gentle education, but once accomplished, an utter delight
When I was a child in the 1950's The Gospel was in English followed by a homily. Watching this brings back memories. I was in the children's choir. We had to sing in Latin.

The FSSP and ICKSP must continue to serve the faithful no matter what, against the wishes of the modernist heretics. Our prayers and support are with you.
@@Beanbag777 Yes! I pray the Holy Spirit moves enough parishioners to do so. I am blessed to live near enough to The Mission at San Juan Capistrano. I'm just starting my journey to Christ's church and know I will prefer the Tridentine mass over the NO. (Novus Ordo, but funny that it's no).
Check out the SSPX .If it wasn't for Arch Bishop Lefebvre the TLM would of been lost. Plus some Bishops have shut the TLM down in Hamilton They can't shut down the SSPX. 🙏
As a protestant looking at this, I have to admit there is a dignity in this form of liturgy. I am from the Anglican faith, and we too have a very dignified form of liturgy, keeping elements of our ancient Catholic heritage, whilst maintaining our protestant theology, a middle way as it is called. So I did enjoy watching this, and maybe I will get the chance to sit and watch this form of the Roman Catholic Mass sometime. I know I could not take communion, but I assume there is no restriction on watching.
John King to sum it up as briefly and simply as I can we as Catholics believe that when a Catholic priest consecrates Eucharist it becomes the literal Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. In order to worthily revive this you need to be in a state of Grace and in communion with the Catholic Church. This means to of not have committed a Mortal Sin and to believe and accept all of the Churches teachings. Now I'm not an expert or Theologian but this is the best answer I'm able to give with my knowledge on Church Teaching.
I find the Latin Catholic mass very inspirational and beautiful. I wish it was that way at my Catholic church in Newinton CT, Church of the Holy Spirit.
I am neither Catholic or Christian, but I certainly appreciate the elaborate ritualistic methods of worship, as a sign of love and reverence to the Creator of all things. I think this is a wonderful way to worship.. 🙂
I have been looking into, and studying the Latin Mass for a few years now. I attend a Latin Low Mass about twice a month, only because that is the only one available an hour away. If given my choice I would never willingly attend an N.O. Mass over the Latin Mass again. That being said; knowing what little bit I know at this point, and having been exposed to this absolutely beautiful and reverent form, even in the Low Mass; I am at a complete loss as to how anyone could prefer the N.O. Mass over the TLM.
I have been to only one Latin High Mass. It was the first Latin Mass of any kind that I had been to, and still the only Latin High Mass. I have been to many many Low Masses, but this first experience left me stunned, inspired, excited, WAY more reverent in my approach to Our Lord; but most of all, it left me searching, studying, watching, and asking why this has been changed. Many of the answers are not a satisfactory answers, because a satisfactory answer doesn't exist, and in light of many of the Vat II documents that were supposed to shed light on this only left me very distrustful of words and legal jargon.
My great grandma who by the way was quite the traditional Catholic, said, "We're Roman Catholics!" She was trying to emphasize the importance of Latin. I honestly wouldnt be going to a norvus ordo mass (not that I'm against it), if I had easy access to a parish that celebrates mass in the extraordinary form.
@@redeemed7868 Jesus may have spoken a couple languages as he was from Nazareth so spoke probably Aramaic, but there were Romans and Greeks in the areas he traveled to as well. He probably was able to converse with them all. The main languages in the area Jesus travelled to and later the Apostles were Greek, Latin, Aramaic, some Hebrew (don't know if the language was fully extant or used mainly for scripture). Latin is a dead language so the meaning if words do not change. It is the official sacred language of the CC. It was also one of the languages on the Cross above the Lord's head. Up until recently in the history of the Church, the past few decades, the codified Mass of All Ages was always in Latin. It serves to unify, so that anywhere you go to Mass whether in your own town, province, state, country, other countries, you will know you're in the right place, a familiar & trusted place where you understand what is occurring regardless if the people sitting next to you speak a language or languages different from yours. Synagogues use Hebrew exclusively, Mosques use Arabic, Eastern Orthodox uses Greek & Latin.... so why should the RCC not use Latin? Why is the CC the only one blasted regarding this & expected to conform to something no one even asked for to begin with? Interesting fact.... RC Exorcists have reported that after using the more recent translation/form, they are returning back to the Latin Rite because it is indeed more potent. Reportedly the dæmons hate it, so we as RCs love it!
@@redeemed7868 It is one of the languages written on the the Cross along with Greek, and Hebrew. It is a question between a dead language and a dying language. i was raised in the Tridentine (Latin Mass) then had to adapt to Vatican II which itself was very different (i'll refrain from commenting). we have Usus Antiquior (Tridentine) at my parish and am utterly delighted. deo gratias.
I had the pleasure of meeting Father Pendergraft last year and I thanked him for making this video. He is an amazingly humble, and gracious priest. Thank God for him and all FSSP priests! Padre Pio, Ora pro Nobis!
The "new Mass" has thankfully had some dignity and sense of mystery restored to it by the Church, but my take on it "versus" the Tridentine Mass is still this: The new Mass is like a bunch of musicians/friends getting together for a jamming session. They agree on what the song will be, but then improvise, make things up as they go along, depart from what the composer originally laid out, etc. The focus is on them, on fun, and on their "jamming", which never yields the same results twice in a row. Any pleasure that comes from this is transient, spontaneous, not replicable in the exact same way. The Tridentine Mass is like a group of musicians getting together to perform a chamber or orchestral work by Bach or Mozart. They agree not only on what the music will be, but on how to play it, each person adhering to the directions that were laid out by the composer, their individuality momentarily suppressed so that a collective effort - geared to tradition - will produce a result that is lasting and timeless. With jamming, we get to our "destination" by spinning a compass, and that destination is totally rooted in the "now", the result being a "gift" that we create. When performing Bach or Mozart, we get to the destination by following a map that takes us to a NEW place and experience that transcends the "now", even while impacting it - the result being ultimately a "gift" from the composer.
The issue is, does the mass, old or new take us to our DESTINATION. Mathew 7/13 says the path is very narrow and the gate very small. And few shall pass and the "many" will be destroyed. Whenever a large number of people agree on some point of faith, its best to look elsewhere. The blind are being led by the blind.
I am an Indonesian Novus Ordo Catholic, but I am intested in the TLM. Thank God this instructional video give me insight about priest's action around the altar and the accompanying prayers...

I love both forms of the Holy Mass. I was familiar with SSPX when I began inquiring of the Catholic Faith, but was turned off by the division. It reminded me too much of the hatred I heard when I was exploring Orthodoxy. I'm fortunate enough to belong to a parish that offers both forms of the Mass, and both reverently, and Traditional Doctrine is taught as well. I feel that people lend a little too much power to the devil than to God. It's sad.
Ottimo video! Questa Messa Tridentina è il futuro della Chiesa; solo così si potrà salvare! Dio vi benedica! Great video! This Tridentine Mass is the future of the Church; only in this way can you save! God bless you!
Get a Latin mass missal. Latin and English are side by side so you can easily follow and understand the prayers of the day. It's not complicated. The Latin rite is full of symbolism that is intended to maximize the faithful"s participation in the holy Sacrifice of Our Lord on calvary. Thank you, FSSP, for being a critical contributor to saving the true Catholic church during these dark times .

It's been awhile since this was put on here and it is now '21. I'm 57 so latin mass is a very distant, like 3yrs old, memory. With all that is currently going on with the controversy about the latin mass, this was helpful. I'm not getting why it HAS to be so precise and perhaps that is what turned off many priests to the latin rite.? I know our priests don't go through all that in getting ready for mass. It's a fine line I think between legalism and spiritualism. I am finding the latin very different than the english and one day hopefully, I can attend a latin mass. The closest one to me is almost 2hrs away. However, if the current pontiff succeeds there won't even be that one. Praying for you. Thank you for answering your call to your vocation.
I hope that if the Tridentine rite comes back, it will be like the "dialog masses" of the 1950s, when the whole congregation joined in saying/sing the server's responses--so the priests prayers were spoken for all to hear as well.

I grew up as a Devout Roman Catholic but I've never personally experience TLM, but it's Okay novus ordo or LTM both are 100% valid if done properly, we can't be discourage if TLM has been restricted by the current pope what matters is Obedience and Proper, for me TLM is more beautiful but still what matters more is our faith, we Go inside to the temple of God and attend the Holy mass For our Loving Response to the God who has loved us first. To people who left the Catholic church because of the errors they saw from the people celebrating novus ordo that means their faith is to the people not to God.
It makes no sense that the FSSP has adopted the Roman chasuble as some kind of "official uniform" that it wears exclusively, in photos at least. The Gothic chasuble is more traditional. Some 600 years ago, chasubles worn by high ranking members of the clergy became so stiff with ornamentation that movement was impeded. Instead of simplifying, the solution was to cut away the sides, and of course the new "style" was widely copied by all priests. Cutting away the sides enabled garments worn beneath the chasuble to be seen, and they too had to be dolled up with lace and bling. This "cutting" progressed over the centuries until the chasuble became two flaps, front and back, that resemble a sandwich board sign. Nothing wrong with handsome, ornamented vestments, But vestments dripping with Baroque ornamentation and lace and ribbons don't say, "in the image of Christ", they say, "17th/18th century foppish sartorial splendor." All that's missing is the clerical wig. St. Charles Borromeo railed against the extremely pared down chasuble, as did at least one pope. Want to be traditional FSSP? Wear the Gothic, or at least fuller versions of the Roman chasuble such as the Borromeo or Neri.
Note: Even I prefer and love EF, I am still not able to attend EF in my diocese (Dubrovnik, Croatian Episcopal Conference), but some priests started to celebrate novus ordo properly, with dignity and finaly without abuses (dogmatic and/
Would have been better if the Tridentine Mass was just translated from Latin into the vernacular, retaining the form of that Mass instead of concocting the Protestantized Novus Ordo train wreck.
+cedonullidude Exactly. Although Latin sounds better than English to me, they didnt need to change the way mass is preformed. I came to the Church for beauty, not protestant services lol!
It cannot be translated, because it is a dogmatic mass, anyone who changes anything in it, in any way is anathemised ipso facto, by the authority of the Holy Spirit.
I don't understand. You commented earlier saying "However I don't believe the Novus Ordo Mass is invalid.", but now you're calling the Novus Ordo 'retarded'. Make your mind up. Do you still accept the validity of the Novus ordo?
mariver pineda i'm sorry for my comments being misunderstood. When I commented at the time, I felt the Novus Ordo was the same as TLM which is why I was putting both TLM and Novus Ordo at the same level. Now however after studying the differences i now feel the Novus Ordo is retarded. The validity? I fully believe the validity of the Novus Ordo and will never change that. The only thing is I feel its retarded because of its anglican and protestant roots
I am finding this video interesting in terms of each movement/action that is taken, however after every sentence I find myself asking, why? What I really want/need to know, to fully understand and immerse myself in this mass are all the deeper meanings and reasons behind every such precise action, placing, gatment, setting or movement. I am wanting to love this mass but without this deeper information (which I am struggling to find in full, despite lots of searching and finding only bits and pieces of this info here and there, dotted about) I find myself left wondering about the why of all of these things and sadly seeing it as all rather fussy and superfluous. I know that there must be much deeper meanings and reasons for every single bit of this Mass but it all seems so hidden and nobody seems willing to actually go into detail on ALL of it, to give a full, thorough understanding.
The SSPX is in a state of non-approval from the church, and their clergy is not approved and appointed by Bishops in communion with the Pope. Go to their Masses, yes, particularly if you don't have a Latin Mass as a choice, but steer clear from their Clergy's Theology.
I LOVE TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS. The last time I attended this traditional Latin Mass in Manila is year 1965, 7 years old at that time and missed it. Saan po dito sa Pilipinas may TLM ?
I’ve seen priests (non-FSSP) zip through the prayers at the altar, skipping over syllables and interrupting the server. I’ve also seen them say the Kyrie before they reach the center.

Hi there. Don't know if this is of any help but some intricacies are mentioned in a free PDF here (p. 6 onwards): archive.ccwatershed.org/media/pdfs/14/06/26/12-34-30_0.pdf Although this was originally designed for children, I found the illustrations so awesome and really helpful for adults, too!
The traditional Latin Mass is a very beautiful ritual but I have always wondered how and why the lavish vestments developed through the ages. I have been able to explain to my friends the how and why the cathedrals and churches sport so much art (to tell the Biblical stories to an illiterate population of grindingly poor people) but have a more difficult time with explaining the oppulence (and obvious expense) of the garb.
Read of the miraculous events at Garabandal, Spain. There is a clear prophesy that the proclaiming of the Novo Ordo of Mass by Paul VI is a great miracle which will bring the Church safely through the '..Valley of Death..' which is foretold in the Psalms.
Salvation is a free gift my friend, we are saved ONLY by grace yet though it is free we have obligations, that is to "Love God with whole heart, body and soul and to our love neighbor as we love ourselves" the New testament are plenty of does and don't we must comply to these, Salvation is like a free ticket once we have it we must make sure not to loss it, we will only loss it if we don't do our obligations, obligations which are fittingly expected by a Just God from us. In the Catholic Church, there are over 20 "Rites". Rites are sort of cultural flavors of worship, but we are all united under the banner of the Catholic Faith. In Eastern Catholic Rites, Hesychasm is practiced.
I really wish we shepherds who gave everyone the option of Latin Masses, and made them readily available. I gaurentee they would be standing room only, while novus ordo's would fizzle out.
the low mass is silent, only some words like "Dominus vobiscum" can be heard, there are 2 candles etc., on the otherhand in high mass, there are 6 candles, the introit, gradual, epistle gospel are chanted by the priest. Mainly the differences are like these, of course there are some other things too.
Low mass is not sung and most of the responses are just between the server and priest. It's very quiet. The high mass is a solemn high mass without the deacon and subdeacon. Incense is used, as is the asperges, and everything is sung. The propers are sung, there's typically a choir/organ with things such as the creed and gloria sung by the congregation.
I wish we could have Latin Mass at my parish - in the mean time I home to try to teach the altar servers how to properly serve the novus Ordo. I am wondering, are there any good resources for that? To incorporate incense and proper tasks of the altar servers.
I am familiar with the Dominican Rite Mass, which is very similar to the EF of the Roman Rite. The main differences in the Dominican Rite is that the chalice is prepared one the altar by the priest before mass; he also wears the amice when doing so.
How much wine does the celebrant consume at each mass? If he has celebrated a couple masses prior…then. Based on the slurred & incomprehensibleness of the homily a couple of priests have delivered, I really wonder.
I served as an altar boy at the St. Francis Xavier Church, Golla, Dhaka East Pakistan (Bangladesh) 1958-65. Did memorize the Latin prayers. Ad deum qui laetificat juventutem meam. Felt confused/betrayed by Vatican II. Some reforms OK. But others went too far. Almost Nihil.
You are correct Lawrence. But that's what Catholic teaching says and I am a Catholic who is obedient and loyal to the magisterium. There are catholics who are not and don't believe that and other Christians that don't believe that. The Eastern Catholic Churches are just as legit and are equals with the Roman Church even though they are smaller. A lot if not most of their rites and rituals are older than Latin rite. Including their Sunday Liturgy.
Will we see anything like what my Parish,Saint John the Evangelist Anglican Use(Calgary,Canada)where we will have a purely Orthodox Mass, but in English? Also is ever the precious blood distributed during mass like it is in the,the Byzantine Rite, and the Anglican Use liturgies? When I was at a Benedictine Retreat they dispensed Holy Communion via intinction, thus we received under both species. This is also done in the Maronite Mass as well. Our weekday Mass is from the 1962 Missal (said in English).
I would really be interested to know, if people attending latin mass learned latin in school? To me, this language barrier would create an impediment for actively taking part in the mass. Is it necessary to simply study and learn to understand the prayers and responses? And what about the reading of the gospel in latin; does the congregation understand it? I am curious and would really appreciate any responses😊.
Hello. My family has been consistently attending Latin Mass only for two years now. I was not raised in any faith tradition and my wife attended a OF parish full of liturgical abuse. We have zero Latin background, but our kids are getting Latin in their on-line school which is helping the boys with their Latin responses to serve. We also found a few online pronunciation guides as we were learning to pray our family rosary in Latin as well. My advice is this: 1. Sit up front. 2. Get a 1962 Missal ( I have the Baronius Press one with a guide on when to sit/stand/kneel that I taped in the front). I page markers/ tabs at: Sunday readings, Asperges (start), Creed, start of the Roman Canon (similar to Eucharistic Prayer I, Lords Prayer, and Dismissal/Last Gospel. The missal will allow you to easily follow along on all prayers/readings ...start to finish... and learn the Latin so there is no barrier and in short time, it will become 2nd nature. The prayers in the Latin Mass are so beautiful and inspiring, and was I just marveling at that when comparing to the Offertory prayers in my OF Missal a few days ago. I also buy the Tan Books Calendar which has both the 1962 & new calendar feast days. The "14th Sunday of Ordinary Time" could be something like the "5th Sunday After Pentecost." I like the After Pentecost name over "Ordinary Time" because of correlation that the Church is guided by the Holy Spirit and way cooler than "ordinary time where nothing interesting happens."
So the Church, whose greatest desire is to make salvation available to everyone, judged it proper to allow the Mass to be able to be celebrated in any language outside of her own native tongue, which is Latin. I assume that Latin and classical education becomes more prevalent, then priests will receive more training to say the Novus Ordo in Latin (which is the language it normally celebrates in all liturgical functions).
I think it is fitting that the Novus Ordo may be celebrated in the vernacular. I think this, because classical education is sorely neglected in modern education. Even though the Mass is very simple Latin, and anyone with two years of training should be able to read it coherently, modern education stresses no importance on classics, on the basis that it is impractical.
Sometimes I wonder how (or if) the priest manages to say all these prayers, especially when he comes to the church, then is basically half-vested listening to the confessions, then preaches and after this he is finally going to finish his vesting before the mass itself
