I love your sense of humor and levity you bring to the situation. Thank you for highlighting the irony and ignorance we all fall pray to. To me, your video is a great reminder that you can make your point without "aggressively attacking" anybody and that we all need to lighten up and learn to laugh at ourselves.
Every year, i come back to this video, for its sense of humour. And i keep finding new things to laugh about. This is definitely one of the best camera review video in terms of the entertainment it brings.
***** I dont keep sending you emails about buying shirts. I have not pushed or tried to sell just shirts since the holidays. The news letters this month have been about weekly wrap ups, a flash video adam did, RAWtalk email and today my birthday sale which is not for a shirt, it's for a strap. The generalization is pretty bad.
I got the Birthday special, I had just got a BR Sport when i was in the US, but I wanted the I shoot Raw one, only took a week to get to Australia, Going to give my Sport to my sister. Happy Birthday & Thanks. Nikon seem to miss the mark, i am holding off, what I really want it a D7100f you can guess what the f is for, or put the new controlls on the the D810.
This "review is amazing"... My wife thought I was watching Jimmy Fallon clips again, because I was laughing hysterically out loud in my office. The quintessential "don't take yourself so damn seriously" video... love it... And you made me want to go buy a DF to be honest...
I just got my used Nikon DF! I love it, it has a great feel and allows me to use dials and older Nikon lenses. Hipster or not! I am not a hipster and still love it since I like the older Nikon FM etc. with dials. I would say that a Nikon D4 is probably cheaper in 2020 than the DF.
It is funny in retrospect. He just completely misinterpreted this camera, or at best misjudged what it turned out to be. This is a the perfect camera for your manual focus Nikon F-mount glass, including coupling lever. He was right about the size, but wrong about the controls, that’s why Fujifilm has had such a success with their retro design and manual controls, but also small size (including X-T# or X-Pro#). Now with the release of the Zfc Nikon has actually done what he suggested, but without the direct F-mount manual lens support… what a waste of a nice little body, but it will sell better than the Df. It is a funny world. Wish Nikon would release a full frame mirrorless f-mount Df replacement.
@@TK421-53 I find it funny also, he missed it, didn’t see the future that analog would become a trend. Back when he reviewed that camera, most were still into digital. I always find some of these older reviews interesting. I also wish they would come out with a new Df style camera. I had hoped for a a Df with the D5 sensor. But maybe a Full Frame mirrorless would be better.
this is the BEST review I have EVER seen! Forget the charts and pixel peeping, this is what a review is a ABOUT!!! KEEP IT UP!!! LOVE how you are going the extra mile to prove your point and to get at the human sociology!
DUDE!!!!! I love u!!! this was the best video review I have ever seen! I personally shoot the Nikon DF (which I love), but I also shoot the Nikon D3s as well as the Fuji Xpro 1. I love each cam for its own reasons. What you did in the piece was just hysterical and fantastic!!! You keep doin yo thing man!!!!
OMG! Thaaaaaaaank youuuuuu!!! This is the perfect video to explain what this camera is. Today, you are my hero! Now I will go find your original article about the camera and read it for more enjoyment.
I love the sarcasm in your outfit. Despite what those negative comments, you are a pro and I'm fan of your work and web page. keep up the great work you inspire me to become a better photographer.
Best camera review ever...The only way this would have been better is if you did it in Portland(OR). I have lived in Oregon my whole life and the hipsterness is getting out of control.
This has got to be THE funniest camera review ever ! Absolutely brilliant. Like all Fstoppers videos - this is really well put together. Very interesting hearing people's perception of the Df based on its appearance. As a Nikon user I think it's a pity Nikon didn't think out the controls better on this one.
I love the way the Df looks. It has an old 35mm look to it. Although I wouldn't take it over my D800, I was wondering why you didn't mention that the Df actually has the same sensor as a D4. And in most reviews I've seen of the Df say that it has better ISO processing than the D4. You compared it to the D600, and if I had to choose between the Df or the D600, I would definitely take the Df.
This has to be the most entertaining camera review I have ever watched. You make a fantastic point about the irrelevance of how a camera looks. Which one looks more attractive to a thief?
Awsome video!! Fun to watch. The DF to me is a half assed attempt to Cash in on the Retro look made popular by Fuji, Olympus, Sony and Panasonic. I hope Matt Grainger saw this and sells. DF made me into a Canon shooter.
Why is this channel so badass!!!!!!!!! Seriously has become one of my favorite the further I have dug into the videos you've posted and keep putting out! Would be an amazing opportunity to work on the Fstoppers team!
Awesome! We have lots of older content that is really good that few people know about. Maybe we will do an "Fstoppers Classics" on the front of the site soon
I for one hope that Nikon continues a separate line of "pure photography" cameras. The DF is a step into the right direction but the tech guys back in the office need to let go of the overwhelming tech they included into the camera. I for one have used film cameras since 1988 and still shoot with film today.I dont represent the sport, wedding, event, fashion, photographers of today although I have shot all of the above. I do now as I did when I was much younger, shoot street and documentary photography. Personally I think the short comings are all those damn buttons. I shoot film so setting my ISO at one setting for most of day is something I can work with, again thats not for everyone. I generally shoot at iso 400, shutter I keep at 250th and slowest 125th and move my aperture to compensate for light. If that doesn't get me by then I use a flash to add just that bit of light I need to capture my subject. I know thats kinda of crazy for the standards of today but its how i learned and I am faithful to that school. That being said, my dream "pure camera" would have maybe 3 added buttons and a screen that can flip to close while shooting. I dont chimp, its a bad habit. I would need a play button, I would need a trash button and lastly a Brkt button. I would an on off switch. The only dials I need, Shutter dial, Iso dial, a dial for Single, continues shooting and ev dial to 3 stops + and 3 stops -. the only way I would need to change aperture would be on my lens. No other settings needed and no stupid menus. the rest is up to me, the photographer and my understanding of light and exposure. The tech has changed but the sun is still the same. I dont think it was brighter, darker, cloudier, stormier, snowier, or rainier when people shot film. A camera is simple. Its a lens and sensor and 3 ways to expose an image, everything else is totally over doing it. I know there is tech, but tech can handicap just as much as it can advance. hell, if they made a camera with two slots and no screen I would buy it. the joy of photography for me is the anticipation of seeing what you got, challenging yourself everyday with different light and chasing the fleeting moment. its not so much in how ways to sunday I can configure my camera to do crazy things and control other things or connect to my phone or computers. I also hate that anything I grew up with and currently use is now written off as hipster crap. that insults me in ways you can't understand. retro is hipster and hipster only? I think it should be more about what a person is willing to work with and not work with. it used to be about having to deal with challenges and overcoming them. That might hurt other people who put their ego into their camera gear. it was the same when I was growing up. The guys with the "serious" cameras mostly shot like crap. while the starving working photographers shooting with not so "pro" cameras were taking all the nice and meaningful stuff. I've said enough. last point. no matter what you have, if you don't have an eye then you have nothing. I vote for simpler cameras so we can unlock the complexity of our minds and not be handicapped by tech. take that anyway you like.
I really enjoyed this video. I rarely watch RU-vid videos all the way though, but I’ve got a D810 and feel that I’m looking for something more. I’m not a professional, I don’t intend on being one. I like the looks, this seems to satisfy all the requirements that I have and although some of the manual dials seem a bit confusing, it also seems that most (if not all) can be overridden by the digital controls. Yes, I realize that probably defeats the purpose of me owning this camera, but it’s mine, so there!
This video nails it in the head. And the commitment to get the point across is awesome. I own a 5dmkiii and when i want to shot for fun and go vintage just pick up my canon A-1 and 2 rolls of neopan, no need to spend 3K on some digital/film mutant.
I really enjoyed watcing your presentation and review. Your view over it was remarkable and gave me a genuine laughter while you made your point, keep up the good work!
Guess what, last week I sold my D750 aaaand Today, I have just bought a silver DF and I adore it, absolutely everything about it, well, OK, I’ll miss the AF illuminator :) , but that’s all! ooo and NO, I’m not a professional photographer... :)
Very funny video I have to say... But I do disagree with the final verdict. I'll chose any day the Df over the D800. More than anything for the dedicated ISO dial, smaller package, smaller file size, and low light capabilities...
+rnbdanny The dials that go in full stop increments? Right.... The A7s sensors from Sony blows the nuts off the d4 sensors in low light. Admit it, the only reason why you would pick the df is because of it's looks, which is fine, it's a free country. But, don't try to justify it by saying it's better in some technical sense.
