I bought this exhaust, from FT86, and after 6 months I'm absolutely happy with it. Everything exhaust is stock 'cept for this. I bought it knowing it'd drone on the freeway, which it does, but only with the windows up where the sound has space to resonate. When you're really booting it, this exhaust sounds crazy. It literally turns heads two blocks away when I get on an entrance ramp. If you're at higher RPMs and let off the gas it crackles and snarls just like you wanted. Also at any RPM, once warmed up, just slightly letting off the gas causes aggressive sounding crackles and grumbles no matter the speed. It's fun to make people walking on sidewalks look before you pass by. After a few weeks with it, you get to know what conditions you need to make certain sounds. A friend of mine remarked that the tips are massive, and they absolutely are. I have yet to see another car with wider pipes in my area. I bought the regular tips, not the blue, but I might spring for them someday as it'd be an easy change-out. Startup at cold idle is WTFLOUD. My work colleague said he thought we had a bulldozer in the parking lot and he was maybe two hundred feet away when I cranked it over. If you have fussy neighbors, they will hate this on cold mornings. Personally, I respect my neighbors by dropping it into reverse and getting out on the side of the road (any movement stops ~80% of fast idle) the moment I crank it over. Face the pipes away from your house, or your / your neighbors windows will rattle for the first ~45 seconds your car is on in the morning. At crazy Canadian -25C temperatures, it's ridiculous. The only other small thing is that because these pipes are bigger, they hang LOW. Like, I wondered if it was still fastened right after the first commute with it once parked, but it really does just hang low. The bracket that holds the catback itself on its connecting pipe at the very back of the car hangs the lowest of all, and if you really lower your car as I have, you need to be aware of it. It sounds incredible with the windows down, and there's zero drone. If you put the windows up, the drone makes it to maybe an 8/10 in noise factor, especially uphill or under any sort of load (slight acceleration or deceleration in 6th). So if you get easily irritated by being on the highway for hours with your car going BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW constantly, maybe consider a different system. Also, this thing was a PITA to get to Canada. Buy it from FT86. I tried 3 other sites and they all failed and caused me months of delays waiting for shipping notifications and refunds, etc.
Hey there mate ! You said that you have only the exhaust and the other parts its stock right ? Does that sounds the same at 2:00 ? Did it does this BAP aswell only with the catback ?
installed mine yesterday, and i cant stress enough how much louder it is in person. the camera and mics do not do justice, not even a little bit. sounds amazing.
Now I finally know how it sounds from outside of my car. I enjoy the pop so much. It does get loud and a bit drone around 2.5k to 3.5k, but it gives deep bass too. Highly recommended for budget exhaust.
I listened to over 30 different exhausts on this car and I don’t care what anyone else says, imo this exhaust was built for the 86/BRZ . It’s going on my 22 BRZ when it finally arrives
I have this exhaust. After owning it for a couple of months here's what I think: -Loudness:6-7 (Not crazy loud, but loud enough you can hear it.) *Cold starts are loud but not like compared to UEL headers and a catback, or axle back. *Drone is a 5-6 ( Highway drones unless you're in the sweet spot. Even then it isn't bad. *Won't attract a lot of attention compared to a ricey sound. Very deep and mature tone. *Pops isn't like the video. It can pop loud under lower gears and RPMs. You have to warm it up first and then blip the car out of gear to make it pop. The softer the blimp the more pops you get. Overall, this is a good exhaust if you daily your car and aren't wanting to upset neighbors. I was in between getting a single exit (hks and greddy), but decided to go for this instead because of varies reasons. 9/10
BryanSoy do you have a UEL header with this also? Or stock header with the MXP exhaust? Looking at getting the FT86speed catted header and the MXP Comp RS but I’m worried about too much drone with the the UEL header plus the exhaust.
Byron Campos stock headers but I think any header is going to be semi loud. If it’s catted it won’t be too bad imo. The drone is gonna Be there but not bad.
Just installed this exhaust and I gotta say right off the bat I’m very impressed! Cold start is quite aggressive I’d say a good 8/10. Once you idle it’s a lot more tame. I drive an automatic so I managed to find a sweet spot between 3-4000 rpm to keep the exhaust at a subtle pur. When I open up and give it gas boy does she roar! Haven’t been able to really gas it to see if it pops and crackles but I’m so far I’m very satisfied with everything. Sound is great but not enough to seem obnoxious or annoying, it’s a very deep rumble with not much droning. Highly recommend if you’re on the fence!
yeah i’m for sure buying this exhaust, i didn’t know you can adjust the tips! i just got a 2018 toyota 86 in all black and i really want this exhaust 😭 it’ll look and sound so dope!
Getting rid of my tomei exhaust and replacing it with this one as im installing a Speed By Design turbo kit in a week and cant stand this tomei exhaust. I should be installing this MXP comp rs exhaust tomorrow. Hopefully quieter than the stupid tomei
@@rerco Of what? the turbo kit installed or exhaust? i should have it running in a week. Everything is installed, just waiting for the base map tune from Delicious Tuning so i can start up. Then have the car dyno by them on late February
For anyone wondering if this is street legal, I live in Cali and have gotten a citation ticket for this exhaust. It’s higher than 95db, took to state ref after getting pulled over and was read at 99db. Best sounding exhaust I’ve had on 86 so far, but unfortunately did not pass state ref in Cali. Pretty loud throughout the rev range, even at low rpm. I now run an n2, much more tamed and less aggressive but it’s great for everyday driving.
I’m like 4years late on this BUT I am mad because I installed mine about 3weeks ago and it does not pop at all…. My question is, did you have UEL headers and a catless front pipe & over pipe during this install? My BRZ is literally stock other than coilovers & wheels, now the exhaust.
@@mysweatmybloodyourtears honestly yeah, at least for me. It has drone when on the high way going 75. I would have to talk loud so the person can hear me. It was cool in the beginning but I got tired fast, I would get headaches front it. It sounds like you’re racing when your just driving normally. I switched to a quieter exhaust which is invidia q300
In comparison to the Invidia N2 how much louder is it? I love the Invidia N2 sound, the tone as well, absolutely perfect however it is unbelievably quiet. On cold start it’s fairly loud but once it idles you wouldn’t know it’s not stock at all unless you saw the exhaust itself.
Does it really pop.kinda one of the reason I’m buying one? Let me know please I would appreciate it. Does it have header or tone or anything like that to make it pop ?
Hey I just installed this. I don’t remember seeing any donut gaskets did you have to put some on yours? I heard you have to take it from oem. Also mine doesn’t pop. I really don’t know why either can anyone help please
Same! Ive had my catback for 1 and half and still no pops just a low deep growl i guess? Or more like a burp lool. Im wondering if they have a fp or op which makes the pops? Catless?
@@GookManGM4L I’m going for uel headers and a tune. A tune itself might ignitiate the pops. And the uel headers will make it sound louder and deeper. Wish me luck
Only complaint is the drone...step on the gas at low rpms, or under engine breaking, it’s hums like crazy. Got a headache on my first highway drive. U get use to it tho
@@r4robin33 it's really good the drone is not that bad you will want it more louder as soon you get into it, I gonna put the invidia catless front pipe soon, cause I want more pops pops... xD
Adrian Cunanan my guess is because the newer 2017 model ( manual) has a slightly updated engine ( The minimal rise in power comes courtesy of new valves, camshaft, and cylinder heads, as well as a new aluminum intake)
The pop sound occurs when the engine didn't properly burn all the fuel and it makes it's way to the exhaust. Without all the mufflers and cat to restrict flow, the fuel is sent through the exhaust system and (if it's hot) burns the fuel, thus causing the pops
Hey Everyone, so I took the risk and bought the exhaust, I live in aus and I’ll review it honestly now.. if anyone has any questions I’ll happily answer Yes it pops, it doesn’t really pop when you rev it like the video, however if you’re in sport mode, it can pop a lot when you tap the accelerator, it’s insane. Yes it’s very loud, but not annoyingly loud unless you want it to be, then put it in sport mode 😂. Yes it was easy to fit, besides the annoying rubber holders, just gotta rub that with greasy stuff. Yes it turns heads 😋 It sounds insane in Manuel or sport mode. I drive an auto so.. I 100% recommend buying this. I don’t feel the need to buy headers or anything although I might. I don’t mind making a video reviewing it but I feel like this comment is enough, again if you have questions ask away
