The FT991A Attenuator (ATT) allows you to reduce the incoming signal on voice, data, and CW in HF to a more comfortable level by 12dB or 2 S units.
The Attenuator allows works in conjunction with the IPO/AMP1 and AMP2 and if using the Attenuator you must always have the IPO/AMP1/AMP2 set to IPO.
This is also useful for data and CW in HF where the incoming signal is overdriving your system and your software may not be able to translate the information.

Thank you. Excellent video. Straight to the point with a helpful demo. Two thumbs up. The FT-991A is still smarter than I am, but learning about ATT and IPO got me one step closer to mastering this rig. I put the knowledge to use tonight and had a nice QSO with a person in Catalonia, Spain from the southwest US. Between AMP1 and DNR, I was able to pull his signal out of the noise like a pro. 73.

What a nicely done video. So many ham think that you must leave the IPO / amp 2 on so the signal is loud. Both my FT-991A's and FT-710 come from the factory with the IPO on for every band, including 160 meters. It programs new hams the wrong way. I wish ham would not only understand when to use or not use the IPO as well as the ATT and mostly how to use the RF Gain control. Barry, KU3X

Good evening Barry and thank you so much for the kind word, I have to admit I kind forgot about the RF Gain until now, what a great supplement to managing RF signals, thanks again I really appreciate the kind words from you 73 and hope to work you on the air.
