How did you get your misumi slides so stable without facing them towards each other?

We had many cross braces to counter act the leaning as well as used automated driver assists during tele-op to speed up alignment.

If you are below high-school age, we would recommend starting with Lego Mindstorms. If you are in high-school, you should try to find a VEX or FIRST team in your area.
