Thank you for explaining that sometimes division can come before multiplication in PEMDAS! I kept going over my practice problem and couldn't understand why the correct answer was having me do division before multiplication! Thank you!!! No one ever explains this when they list out order of operations.

This video is helping me a year later! Thanks for the breakdown! (and your "squiggles" are braces, by the way!) 🙂

Hello! Thank you for doing these types of videos. On question number 2, Solve Real word problems, you multiply 3x 3 and 4x3, 7x2, 6x2 and 2x4 and 3x4, I got lost there. Can you please elaborate more? Thank you so much! Your video was very informative!

Hi Emily!!! For this question, before I could add the fractions, I had to make all of them have the same denominator or bottom number. So in this case, I needed each denominator to be a 12. The fractions are 3/4, 7/6 and 2/3. Starting with the first fraction, 3/4, let's change the 4 to a 12. In order to do that I need to multiply the 4 by 3 to get 12. However, I also need to change the numerator or top number of the fraction because I changed the denominator. So I have to multiplied the 3 by 3 also to get 9. Now my first fraction is no longer 3/4 it's 9/12. Let's do the same process for the second fraction, 7/6. The 6 will be multiplied by 2 to get 12. Now multiply the 7 by 2 to get 14. The second fraction is now 14/12. Lastly, the third fraction is 2/3. I multiplied both numbers by 4. The third fraction goes from 2/3 to 8/12. I hope this make sense now. Please let me know. Thanks, Mrs. Taylor

How do you square root with a basic calculator? Because that's all they give you for the GK math.

Hi there!!! On a basic calculator or a 4 function calculator, you should have the radical symbol as one of the buttons. In Google, type “radical symbol” to see what it looks like. You would use that button to calculate the square root of a number. I hope this helps.
