He's a man from a generation where people used to have integrity, could die for his principle, civilized and well cultured, and even he has the ability to respect his enemy. Such a loveable and admirable individual he is.
Many of you Indians might not know that Mr .Sam Bahadur is also the honorary General of the oldest military organisation of Asia ie . Nepalese Army .. Salam ger. sahab 🙏
Really a legendary military figure of India by his virtue. A great gentleman cadet Lt Monekshaw. I love reading his life stories, his stories always allures me. As a now a days soldier, I wish I'd privileged to serve under his sage command.
Yes the uneducated Fool Karan Thapar mistook him for Obstetrician (who deliver babies) as opposed to Gynaecologist. Nowadays in India both fields have been combined as MS Obs and gyne
"A warrior capable of absolute carnage is the calmest of all" that holds true for this great gentleman. P.S. I don't know who said that quote but I just remember reading it somewhere😅
Parsi's are such a wonderful gift to India. Proud of this small but great clan. Wish we had millions of such people around to lead and nuture our beautiful nation.
@@mincyabraham186 No mam. You misunderstood me. Very proud of you and your selfless service to our nation. My father was in AMC too. He retired a few years ago. He last worked command hospital pune. So i have seen the hardships of being a nurse and thats why i said "mallu nurse". Bcz we are mallus.
My hero! It took lot f courage to tell Indira Gandhi in 71 to tell her that if her plan to attack in april is followed it will be 100% defeat !I Salute my hero
Rest in peace, Sam Bahadur, rest in peace. They don't make them like you anymore, neither in the eastern hemisphere nor, especially, in the western one. Rest in peace, brave man.
They do still make them like Sam, both in the Eastern and Western Hemisphere. The thing is, you need to look harder to spot them. If you stop looking hard for them, if you surrender to the notion that they are not there........well that Is Surrender right? There’s a high price to pay for it. Peace. Out.
I wish he had written his autobiography. His language and the clarity and confidence with which he recounts incidents is delightful! An older generation of men that are just lost now.
An interesting interview. For a change kudos to Karan Thapar. He did a great job here. I admire Sam to the hilt. First time I saw him in real was when he addressed the Passing Out Parade in IMA in Mar 72. Thereafter I met him a few times in Wellington when I was attending the Staff College in 1983. He was the one who presented us the MSc Degree. Later I heard him in Higher Command Course in 1994. Every time my respect and admiration went higher and higher. He was certainly a Chief who the nation is proud of. God bless his soul.
He handeled political pressure in a great way everytime and fought for the respect of man in uniform whenever any need arises, this made him a unparellel motivater for the men in last row to first. He could dare to face defence minister in Maj Gen Rank. He always fight for right and not for promotion. Promotion followed his bravery. He truly followed the word of Lord krishna"Karm kar fal ki chinta mat kar".Such leadership is missing now. Miss you daring soul. Jai Hind
Field Marshal Maneckshaw passed away in 2008 but his noble memory remains. RIP. Before 1947 partition /independence he served with the 12th Frontier Force Regiment with great valour in World War 2 . A great uncle of mine served under his command . He deeply respected him like all soldiers who ever met Sam Maneckshaw, friends or foes. No earthly awards are equal to such a figure .
@Chaudhry Vikrant ror maratha Praising other is not an inferiority complex I'm talking about this generation ,am proud we have had great ancestors who fought bravely.
@Chaudhry Vikrant ror maratha Wtf is wrong with you man ?? Sam Manekshaw was Indian as well. Dont you remember he was the COAS of the Indian Army during 1971 ?? You unnecessarily replied to one Indian praising another Indian community. Parsis are Indians. Lt. Col. Ardeshir Tarapore who was Indian first and then a parsi lead the Indian tank attack against Pakistani army in Pakistan in 1965, his battalion, the one which he was commanding destroyed 60 Patton Tanks whilst losing 9 of his own, including the one in which he was present, he died in it and for that he was later awarded the PvC or Param Vir Chakra, highest war time gallantry award. Another Indian parsi Lt. Comm. Bahadur Nariman Kavina was the commanding of officer of INS Nipat (now decommissioned) during the 1971 war, he lead and planned Operation Trident which destroyed Karachi port to bits and destroyed Pakistani Navy Headquarters there. Other countless Indian parsis have served the Indian nation. You calling them non-Indians is simply wrong. They are as much Indians as you and me. Inferiority and superiority complexes are nothing but illusions. People who have no achievements of their own cling to the glories of their great ancestors to feel good today. In reality they are only coping with their internal void and failure to achieve anything worthwhile in life. All Indians were great, all our ancestors were great. But then everyone's were. Everyone in this world thinks their ancestors were great. And they should but there should be no obsession over it. Honour the heroes of the land just dont obsess over them. Otherwise it goes on to become full on Nazism. And all of us know how it ended for the Nazis, dont we ? Honouring the heroes is always fine, one shouldn't obsess over them or any "past glorious times". Its dangerous. Otherwise, superiority and inferiority complexes are both equally suicidal and perennial to survival. One must strive to become rational.
For a great personality like Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw, there are only praises and praises. The country is in debt for such a great personality who has contributed so much. If only india had more Sam Bahadurs....

What a chief ! India will never forget you Sir, we as a nation were blessed to have a son of motherland like you. Rest in Peace Sam . Jai mahakali, aayo gorkhali !
The clarity of the voice and the poise in the interview is amazing. Present journalism is way too concentrated on creating controversies rather that getting information!!
When I teenager I have heard about him in the press during India Oak war, still remember his name and fame, good to listen to the interview of great personality of war.
Now I realise why India won the 1971 war with such a bold and enamoured commander while Pakistan Army had the misfortune of being led by a drunk and loadmouth Niazi. I am from Pakistan yet I have a huge respect for General Sam Manekshaw.
Our Chilhood Hero....once had the privilege to see him in person at kolkata when in class VI attending a military tattoo...was just awestruck by his mere presence...what a personality. SAM BAHADUR... THE NATION SALUTES YOU.
The interviewer is simply not catching up with the great Marshal's sense of humor. Our marshal truly emanated his masculinity and was not at all shy. India is blessed to have a leader like you. Great war stories. You showed respect to both sides. Thank you sir for your service!
This kind and level of gentleness and civility is a rare commodity in the effing 21st century. Salute to the man, Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw!
Thank you Karan for sharing this delightful interview with Sam Bahadur .... An officer & a gentleman of valour & humility , who carried his sense of humour , character & straightforwardness till his last days .... The pride of India . !!!! ... What a man , a class apart !!!! God bless his soul.🙏
hobgoblin1216 bullshit. This man doesn't mind making jokes. But he was an excellent general. He looked after his troops. All the gorkhas, sikhs and other great soldiers were absolute fans of him. A major part of why 30000 Indian brave hearts made 100000 surrender is his bond with his soldiers
Op thank you for this classic video. It's a true pleasure! This is how interviews are to be made! Not the screaming propaganda fests that they are now worldover. What class and humor :) This is a real personality! Just a small correction : the Field Marshal's name is Sam Manekshaw. Not Monekshaw.
Love and tears of joy is all i had after watching the satisfaction on this honourable soldier's amazing and heart warming interview. God bless this soul
Salute you Field Marshall Sam Bahadur Manekshaw. Rest in Peace Sir. Edit: Very disrespectful of the then Indian Government to not attend his funeral. As expected from the bunch of spineless
Manekshaw didn't like the Congress regime at all. In this interview it seemed like Manekshaw had good relations with Indira Gandhi, but it wasn't the case. He made her more furious day by day, he was the man who used to go by his own words, conviction and commitments adding much more to the irk of her party members.
@@prash175 he called her cooly as sweety Manekshaw then was at a prime that they thought he would take down Indira Gandhi govt with his military coup But he refused it as he said he is not interested in politics See Indira Gandhi despite being like a friend him most of the times made her bitter to him
he was 85 during this interview, yet he speaks so eloqunetly and coherently. Plus he is sitting without any discomfort. He is looking at least 10 years younger.
The Late Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, was a very Honourable, Knowledgeable & Great man! ... Moreover, He too reminds me of my Grandfather... As he also highlighted 'Moral Courage' as one's duty...God Bless✌
Interestingly, Manekshaw had a poor opinion of Karan Thapar's father, Gen. P.N. Thapar, who, accoring to him, lacked the courage to stand up to the political establishment, which led to India's defeat in 1962.
Thanks to internet connectivity and You Tube Premium ! Only because of this we are able to see and listen wonderful videos on almost all subjects just sitting at home ! Best past time for elders and young both !
What a charming personality. Really rare gem of a person. If I get even 10 percent of Sir Sam's personality, I would consider myself lucky. Amazing to see such brave men
Watching this interview after watching his movie SAM BAHADUR. Love respect ❤️ Also great to see people comments those who know him before this movie was released
