Who would win? The most advanced ship in the galaxy, capable of bringing a federation down to its knees from its power OR one cloaky boi and a couple of styropyro modified laser pointer
@@ExtraRaven_ they said that infinity war was the most ambitious crossover in history but what you said... *_WAS THE MOST AMBITIOUS CROSSOVER IN HISTORY_*
Thanks, Caden. Every run is good if you can get the win! Just gotta keep plugging away at it and learn the guns/enemies/strategies that work for you. This was just an OP get all the RNG run, hah!
@@rand118 For me i do good for like 4 sectors then somewhere I run into an auto scout or something with shields i can't pierce with weapons I can't resist along with like hacking or mind control. yeah, i don't like rng
Flagship: You can't defeat me Federation fleet: I know, but he can Stealth ship: Uncloaks with double glaive, pre-ignited, hacking and mind control Flagship: _NANI?_ Stealth ship: *_OMAE WAE MOU SHINDEIRU_*
I have the opposite problem. I invest in it way too early, and then throws off my run. I rely on it in late-stage, but I don't think I should be buying it at stage 2, yet I always want to.
Before extended pursuit, I had an envelope with tick marks on it showing the normal space jump marks on one side and the slightly smaller ticks for the nebula ones.
Nice, Skavies. I've heard many people talk about using paper with lines to track the pursuing fleet. That's one reason I don't feel like the pursuit indicator mod is cheezy, because you could easily do it yourself with pen/paper.
I seem to recall the glaive beam was nerfed in one of the early patches. I got it very early on in one of my first runs and it did 4 damage per hit, which meant it could harm anything other than a fully shielded target, but it was later reduced to 3. Of course, with the effects of hitting multiple rooms it's still crazy lethal, but not quite as lethal as it was in the beginning. XD
Wow, I don't think I ever knew the Glaive beam had been MORE powerful. Sadly, the only 4 damage beams I've ever used are in modded FTL runs. However, I still can't be mad, one shotting the boss is always fun!
On the final stage, there was a narrow sliver a time where you could’ve double beamed the ship and ended it because your hacking had depleted all the shields. Anyways, awesome run!
Why is war even a thing in this universe when it just takes two zap lasers and a thingy to charge them fast to bring down any ship in one hit, including the most powerful warship known to man
yo, tad late. however. if you have the battery power active its green with orange around it( im sure you know) however that power is at the top of the systems power, so its first to be taken out, and then power is taken from the bottom of the reactor, meaning you can take all the extra power out of a system, then put in the normal reactor into the system. just a way to not get jipped
He said what he wanted to do in the beginning, and it happened. If only my FTL runs were that straightforward. Never got to one shot/one volley the boss in my life yet
Well, the people that say glaive beam is bad should be more specific. It's bad in some situations, amazing in others. The slow charge time makes it require more defensive support so it doesn't get taken down before it can fire. This, coupled with the high power cost, makes it more difficult to get online than a Halberd or Pike beam. However, hacking and pre-igniter make it OPOP, which is what this video shows!
You need the shields or cloak to not get shrekt before it charges unless you have preigniter And if they have 3 or 4 shield there is nothing you can do It's good but you need to have other things to back it up
shield layers only reduce beam damage by 1. You can glaive him on one shield layer and you will still blow away that shield (1 damage from each beam) then the beams will move on doing full damage
It wouldn't blow away the shield. Beams don't knock out the shield layers directly, and even two Glaive Beams don't do enough per-room damage to fully disable a maxed shield room.
Thanks shallowthexgamerz, I appreciate your encouragement! I probably need to be more consistent with posting my videos, which I am trying to get better at.
Well I got FTL on my iPad. It's hard as fuck. But I just gotta keep losing and make a tactic to help me get everything I need for the boss. Highest damage that I've done to the flagship was stage 1. Stage 2 and it's drones just ripped threw my shields.
Yeah, getting your first Flagship kill is super tough, but super satisfying when you finally get it. Getting cloaking and timing the cloak during the drone phase can help a lot. I like to have cloaking OR 4 shields for phase 2. Good luck!
Yea. I got cloak for the main ship once. But because I hadn't had it in use. I forgot I had it. If it weren't for my friend watching and paying attention.i wouldn't have dodged a killer missile. Now on to something different. Here's a fun challenge. Use any ship that has drone control, bonus if it comes with fire beam drone. Next. Only weapons available are ion weapons. Then for that use. The only drones you can use will be fire beam drones. See how far you can get and how many ships your drones burn to hell. If it's possible then have a go. If not then that's fine.
I just realized that Terraria uses some of the same sound effects as this game does, specifically the heavy laser sounding almost exactly the same as the meteor gun
It doesn't matter when you cloak xD the weapons charge and when you're cloaked they wait, whether they wait right away or at the end it's still the same time.
This is a bit late, but if you cloak while the bullets are being shot from the enemy ship but before it gets on your screen then you effectively double the down time for that weapon as they have to charge 2 full times to use it.
@@qwertyious Hah, thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! This is an old run but one of my favorite runs ever. Feel free to come hang out at the live stream, as well!
Just gonna say, with 4 room hits you can one shot the flagship with a halberd beam and a galaive beam, with the shields down of course. Two glaive beams is overkill.
@@rand118 so 4 room hits, glaive does 3 damage per room hit, halberd does 2 damage per room hit. 3*4+2*4 = 20 hull damage. each stage has 20 hull health so that's a one shot. Since you already said that you'd take my word then I guess this was unnecessary. Just pointing this out as a halberd plus glaive may be easier to obtain in hard mode. I have gotten both myself, albeit without a pre- igniter. Something I didn't know was how to hack against a defence drone; you just stop the hacking module. I will be using this in future runs for sure. Thanks.
@@spectro742 Nice, I didn't realize how much overkill Glaive was, so it's good to know halberd plus Glaive works to one-shot the boss. The hacking past def drone trick is super useful, glad I could provide some useful strats! Think I originally learned it from LethalFrag, epic twitch streamer.
Years later: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D_zyB5O3-Rc.html@@rand118 You'll notice I use the defence dodge trick on the second stage.
Furthermore, hard mode would be possible with this if you're very efficient. The low scrap rewards you feel the most in the first few sectors, after that it's not too bad. The setup is so powerful you don't really need to buy value points, barely need repairs, level 4 engines and 3 shields is also enough. It's definitely possible, easily!
Oh certainly, it's possible, and I actually do have another run where I get double glaive beam on hard mode, no pause. I never found weapon pre-igniter on that run, though, so finding this setup is fairly rare and probably why it is my most viewed video, hah!
Wow, that is impressive! I regularly beat hard mode with sick ships, but I just can't do the no pause thing, I get way too stressed out and lose my ability to think!
Yeah, it was a long time before I started playing hard mode no pause. I've been streaming FTL for 3-4 years now, and after a while, you got to keep upping the difficulty!
You thought it was odd when ppl watch you live stream. I just watched it full a few years after. Beating the boss in easy with over powered ship is tight :). This game gives such a rush probably course the risk is so high with no saves.
I often do that, Ryan, but that is totally dependent on the weapons you're facing and what level cloak you have. Level 3 cloak is better to cloak asap so they never get a shot off. If they don't have beam weapons, I usually DO cloak right after their weapons fire with cloaking 2. This video is pretty old by now, so there may be times when I haven't solidified some of those strategies.
I would just like to say, I too love this game, but the RNG is infuriating at times! I had mind control, and hacking, but I got screwed over as soon as the effect stopped, fires, everywhere due to them having three weapons!
There would've been an even better tactic for round 3. A beam does as much damage do a Zoltan shield as it would to hull. So you could've torn down Zoltan shield with the first glaive, immediately hack shields, then use one glaive to hit any systems you don't want to be troubled by (pilot, shields missiles probably). Then you're practically there already.
Does one Glaive ACTUALLY get through the boss's zoltan shield? Regular zoltan shields do get one-shot by one glaive, but I'm 95% sure the boss's zoltan shield has more HP than normal Zoltan shields. Whatever the case, I wanted the satisfaction of one-shotting the boss's hull 3 times, so I wouldn't have done it your way for this meme run, anyway, lol.
Yeah, actually, I doubt it now! You are entirely correct that it has much more HP, namely: 12. However, I also believe that beam weapons hit a Zoltan shield for as many points as they theoretically would've done hull damage with no shields. So 4 rooms times 3 damage should be exactly enough if the previous premise is true. Not as cool as a one-shot obviously, but a little safer ;)
Hmm, I don't remember. I've been playing the game so long, but I can tell you every time you beat a ship when you start, you unlock a new ship. So however long it took me to get a win, that's how long it took to start unlocking ships! I watched a bunch of streams before I played, so I knew some good tips and strats to help win some runs.
I use extended pursuit indicator (gives you the lines for the pursuing fleet jumps) and better planets and backgrounds. I get my mods from the FTL forums. Slipstream mod manager is the main program I use for the mods, here's the link: subsetgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17102
I explain this more in my "beginners' guide to FTL" video, but basically you just have to depower your hacking system the instant that the enemy defense drone fires at your hacking drone. The mechanics of the 2 moving projectiles allows hacking to get by. There are many tutorials out there you can check out to learn about it.
@@rand118 thanks rand! I'm loving your FTL videos. I got my first victory on normal with a few ships based on your guide. The Slug A is still a struggle though
If you cut power from hacking, the hack drone freezes in place. If you do this after the defense drone fires, it'll miss and you can repower hacking while the defense drone is on cooldown. Ignore how this completely violates the second law of motion, and physics in general.
Yup, it's a common strategy used by players to get your hacking drone past the enemy defense drone. It's also the only way this build (or any build that relies on hacking) can kill the boss phase 2.
How'd he beat the Anti-Drone Defense Drone in phase 2? He unpowered it and then repowered it, does this somehow get by the defense drone that shoots down the hack-drone?
Yup, I go over exactly how to do this at the end of my "FTL beginner's guide" video. You basically depower the hacking drone right as the def drone fires and it cause the defense drone to miss (just like my defense drones miss shooting missiles down ALL THE TIME). Works like a charm!
@@rand118 Awesome! I accidentally did this exact strat last night (Only with Halberds), it was AWESOME until I got to the boss and couldn't break it. Thanks for this tip! I'll keep it in mind for next time.
Hah, you're right, that planet from better planets and background mods looks like it's earth as viewed from a satellite. Not sure if I ever noticed that before, good eye!
That's quite the weapon setup. I've gotten Glaive+Pre-igniter to beat the game on hard. But 2XGlaive... I don't think you can beat that damage output with anything else on unmodded FTL.
Yeah, I think 2xGlaive beam might be the most potential damage, although 4x hull beam all hitting empty rooms might beat it, Never really compared those 2 setups.
I believe I've had one double vulcan run. It's probably buried in one of my playlists, so I can't give you the link off hand, but you should be able to find it if you dig through the playlists!
I think it's just the FTL battle music, although there's probably a track name and I just don't know it. I'm pretty sure the FTL OST is on a youtube playlist, just gotta find that track!
Are you talking about my final weapon setup? Double glaive beam uses 8 weapon power, which is max unless you play modded (and this run is not modded in that way). You're absolutely right that small bomb is an AMAZING complementary 1 power weapon for certain setups, it just doesn't fit when you have 8 weapon power.
nono, before you went for dual glaive you had two instances to get small bomb, which you did not consider, and you should had. With this setup probably, only ion bomb is better than that. Setting aside... with this amount of scrap and 1~3 shops ahead to harvest better option was to retain flak 1 in the array than sell it, at least if you prefer 2 flaks 1 over 1 flak 2. If w. sys gets shot or ion it can be even handy. At that point your advantage was probably decisive to be important though.
Well, I don't remember the entire run, but I'm pretty sure my goal was to get exactly the setup I ended up with. One of the times I had the option for small bomb, I got Flak 2. And with pre-igniter and glaive beam, flak 2 is WAY better than a small bomb. Sure, I could've gotten the small bomb as well, but the goal of this run was 2 glaive beams...so I didn't want the small bomb!
Well dude as you said, you can have glaive flak 2 and small bomb all at the same time, and that's what im saying, many times happens that you want certain something but aint sure that you will get it or not. At That point, before the second glaive, you were better with small bomb plus flak2, 'i dont want it' its a fair answer, but playwise should be consider.
I believe there is sometimes a bug where the enemy will not board you 3rd phase if you counter the mind control fast enough. It doesn't happen often, but I've seen it a few times
you are clearly using mods for this game. Where did you get them? nothing on nexus or steam workshop 38:39 speed and then map overlay where the fleet will be also, want max dodge? buy the helm upgrades
I use 2 mods regularly: "Better Planets and Backgrounds" and "Extended Pursuit Indicator." Google will give you download links. Helm upgrades give ZERO extra dodge EXCEPT when your pilot is not in the piloting room. Only way to increase dodge is by upgrading engines and activating cloaking...I assume you know these things.
I think he said how to do this in his FTL guide he uploaded a few days ago, but here’s the gist of it. Launch the hacking drone, as soon as the enemy defence drone fires, depower hacking (pause to get the timing right). This will make the hacking drone stop moving and the defence drones will miss. Then repower the hacking drone.
I had a hacking drone and a lvl 3 cloak, didn't have anything in the systems slots other than a long range scanner and 1 shield cell booster though, got bad luck with those.
