In this video I take on a run with Stealth A, which can often be difficult for new players, so I'll be going into my strategies and tips for this really cool ship.
The Titanium Systems Casing sometimes prevents damage to systems, not to hull. I.E. if you get hit by a missile, it might not do any damage to whatever’s in the room, but your hull will still take damage. In the first fight, you didn’t take hull damage because the weapon that hit you was a Small Bomb which doesn’t do hull damage anyway.
Stealth A is not a beginner's ship, but it's super good once you know what you're doing. My 2nd highest scoring game overall was the Stealth A. Getting Long Range Sensors right away is just so powerful.
I won my first ever run on stwalth A after this video, and it's definitely become my favourite ship in the entire game. I got super super lucky with a ton of stuff, I focused a lot on getting a ton of shots per volley (which really paid off in phase 3 of the boss), and my final weapons were: pike beam, dual lasers (I never sold it off) and a hull laser II. I think I had 500 scrap at one point, which after not getting a bust laser II for like 3 or 4 sectors I used it to upgrade my shields to 4 bubbles, and my engines to max and also a couple of value points in my weapons and drones and basically every system. I think the best augmentation to get with the stealth A is the stealth weapons augmentation, because you can spend more timed cloaked and fire your weapons at the same time. The beginning titanium systems casing augmentation is also quite useful for getting quick scrap in the early game, and I sold it off to get stealth weapons and I later got a repair arm for free at a distress beacon (iirc). Edit: I have to say, I think I only ever took like 10-15 total hull damage the entire run, the cloaking is super useful and I got really lucky with early game ships not having any beam drones or combat drones
Hey man, I just got my first win after 45 games, I use stealth a and just added flack cannon ll, I have hard times during the third phase of the boss because of Zoltan shield, gladly I still win with 4 health, thank you very much on the guide.
Had a successful Stealth B run last night. Was trying to demonstrate why that ship has such a painful start (and I did; barely survived three back-to-back encounters with freaking Beam Drones) to my friends, and the Struggle For Shields(tm). DA-SR 12 is like the Nesasio, only with one ridiculously slow charging weapon and NO Titanium Augment to give your essential components (read: engines, cloak, and esp weapons) a chance to survive the "naked phase" of Stealth Cruiser gameplay. I'd much prefer the two quick charging weapons and high engines of the Nesasio every time, because "Time is the Enemy" in every battle until you get shields in those blasted ships. Very RNG based strategy required there on Hard, because you'll die instantly to beams, attack drones of any flavor, and asteroids. The Level 2 cloak, while nice, is unreliable since the Stealth B doesn't reach 100% evade out of the box thanks to its poor engines and reactor. Very late bloomer, that one.
Big mistake selling the Hull Repair and the Defense 1 drones since you got them for free, because they both use only 2 power and you'll never use them at the same time, so you definitely should have bought Drone control at the store soon after. Having all missiles shot down would have been very helpful.
You FTL RU-vidrs got me playing FTL again when I just spent good money on Civ VI DLC!! :P I feel like I'm missing some achievements and ships I thought I already had though so now I have even MORE to do before I can get back to Civ VI. :/ I was surprised to find I was still missing some B type ships and had none of the Mantis ship achievements when I was sure I finished those. I thought I was mostly done unlocking things or I probably would have come back to the game earlier.
So much luck involved in stealth A, had runs that have been brilliant and others where I've barely scraped out the first sector due to encountering tons of ships with bloody beam drones and beam weapons. I'd say it hinges more on luck than most ships until you can get your first shield and have some ability to resist beams / single shots.
Same, just won one match with one (And... More then a couple resets...), and in my opinion in order to win you need to do the following. One) Get Shields as quickly as possible. Two) Use the Cloak as best as you can to avoid damage. Three) Get at least one to two more crew to man systems. Four) Upgrade your offense; either by getting better weapons or relying on drones. I got to the end once but I could only get a missile system so I lost in the end. On the other I got to the end I had a Halberd Beam, Dual Lasers and Burst Laser II plus a Burst Laser Drone system and aside from half my ship being on fire I beat the Flagship easily enough.
I had fire supression, and it still got fires everywhere, because it is just as slow as a single person trying to fight a fire. But if there is 3 fires in a room, forget it.
I understand the only difference between the difficulty levels in this game is the amount of scrap you get. I normally play on normal. I switched to easy when I realized how many ships I didn't have unlocked. As soon as I switched to easy, the game is like: here's a bunch of luck with drops that, if you had gotten them on normal, you wouldn't need the extra scrap. :/
28:20 are you serious!? it's the best drone in the game it's totally worth buying drone control for probably would be good with a defense drone or just sell the drone you get and buy an anti drone
29:20 I disagree so hard mini beam is best beam 1 power for up to 4-5 damage which is about the same you'd get with the pike but for 1 power cheaper and 4 seconds faster. for raw damage I like the hull beam the most just cause if used well it can do about the same damage as a halberd beam but faster and cheaper but without shield pierce and must hit system less rooms.
Yeah but it's kinda like saying "I'll take any beer" and then it's Blue Moon or something with fruit in it. The Anti-Bio is a garbage weapon unless the rest of your load out is a solid shield breaker and fire weapons. Mind control. Teleporter. It's just a bad weapon in general.
To be fair it's the only fight you can actually prepare tactics for beforehand. I'm actually kind of annoyed that the final fight is always the same. Bunch of weapons, then drones, then zoltan and mind control.
Lmfao, tried this ship today for the first time and my first battle was against some pirates with a beam drone. Mfer shot my weapons down immediately then started a fire on my other systems. Died instantly. I restarted the game like 4 times only to have the same thing happen. Just some laughable bad luck
Similar thing happened to me when I tried the stealth B 2 times, didnt die those runs but I restarted anyway because my ship was in the red in sector 1, no point continuing such a bad run. Another time I lost a crew due to bad luck on a event so restarted again, no point continuing with only 2 crew. Finally got good enough luck on my 4th attempt through and won that run, I was close to dead in sector 2 but lvl 2 cloak and a store came in clutch.
Halfway through sector 4 50:00 or so, NOT making power for your dual lasers had me yelling at my monitor. You're going to need that power slot anyway. Don't even need a bar, you can depower O2 for pretty much every fight. Or engines, you don't need dodge if they aren't able to shoot. This is such a good run but I just can't wrap my face around that. Don't even power it, just take the buffer. There's no reason especially with two scrap arms to hoard scrap for the eventual weapons upgrade at the cost of being a 2/3 guns ship in sector 4. Yes, the flak will break anything but why wait, why take damage when you could be dominating? I'm going to have a hard time finishing this watch if you aren't 3/3 ASAP.
thats just how you play. you'll notice I won nearly flawlessly regardless. you don't have to be perfect or min-max, that's not my style. if it infuriates you that much you don't have to watch haha

I watched the first 28 minutes of this video, and went from never making it out of Sector 1 (and honestly not making it out of a single fight the first couple attempts when I unlocked Stealth A) to getting to the second phase of the Flagship fight with Stealth A in 2 attempts (and I probably would've made it the first time but I completely failed to notice the enemy ship fire it's missiles and got wiped out at the Exit jump of Sector 7 with cloak fully charged and not deployed at the critical moment) Super helpful, sucks that shields cost 125 though, especially when the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th store you pass by doesn't have it in stock. I think Stealth A is a really fun ship though, even though I have only used the Engi and Kestral ships before I got the Quest to unlock Stealth A. (I did try Engi A, B and C, and I think the drone builds are kind fun too)
