It is almost a deal killer if it doesn't have memory banks. I don't have then on my FTM-400 but do have then on my VX-6R and absolutely love them. I have all my memories filled up across quite a few banks. I created a bank per area I travel to see family or go camping. Not having that on the mobile rig is a real handicap.

Yaesu is usually innovative and rarely disappoints. The coming age is digital modes, APRS, visual, FSK, Fusion, and whatever comes along While excelling in the routine. No worries with Yaesu!

What's "visual"?
@joedidit3233

As much as I love my Yaesu radios, I have to disagree and say that they do disappoint us over and over as far as memory banks go. It's amazing that Yaesu knows that the biggest complaint their customers have is their lack of multiple memory banks, yet they have continued for years to keep introducing new radios that don't have them anyway. It's hard to understand why they turn a deaf ear to those customer wishes and never address them or even explain why they leave this feature out of their radios when most other brands in the industry have them.

Ham Radio Outlet has a reservation setup for this as well. $35.00. I’ll be getting one. I’m a new Extra, and don’t own a 2/70 cm radio. Make perfect sense for me to start with the latest. $

Being listed as $999AUD here in Australian, unless it has a system upgrade to include a Zone/Bank Memory System, it would only ever be a secondary radio for C4FM Fusion for Me and not worth the money to up-grade from my FTM-200.

@BrekMartin Год назад
I still kinda like Yaesu stuff, but what I mainly see here is obvious cheap out on the expensive display the FTM-400 had, and then “oh no, but it’s not a replacement for the 400!”…. But it kinda is whether boofhead says or not.

I noticed Minnetonka on your 200 screen. I was just up there 2 weeks ago for the dog sled derby. My wife’s cousin competed. I guess I should have looked around for repeaters while I was up there.

At the end where you wrapped up w/ quality of life etc. that sums up precisely how i feel about ham radios. I’m a trucker, the radios have always been imo, ridiculously & unnecessarily & overly complicated. Yet built as cheap as possible. I’ve tryd to stick with uniden products, after having my Dads old 23 channel T berry rebuilt several times over the last few decades I finally went with a Uniden PC-122. Worked flawlessly until it was stolen. My brother uses Cobra products. I run a 980 sometimes, but can never get a conversation on any side band channels, because? Even a conversation on regular cb am is a rarity unless theres a huge traffic jam. I ges I’m just not sure making the switch to ham wont be the same scenario. I’m sure there are quality brands but i feel like I’m kinda “over it” when it comes to all the “bells & whistles & roger beeps buttons” & doo hickey whatcya callit knobs if you know what i mean?. My old friend had his Dads old tube ham set up, it was the size of a small igloo cooler but it only had half a dozen knobs & a few designated switches & a huge tuning knob below a huge freq scale that was white well lit, well marked w/black or red print & ez to see & read without having to squint. I’m just waiting for the industry to rediscover the “short sweet & simple” way of design form & function to swing back into being popular again before i commit to ham. Cuz there’s just to many dam buttons nowadays. I think things should be a lil more simpler to operate. Maybe I’m just old fashioned & born in the wrong era.

@HamRadioHobbyist Год назад
Thanks for the comments. That may have to be a bigger part of thoughts I hope to record on equipment and radio practices. In the end it's about using tech to have conversations. Hang in there, I think there are many conversations yet to come for people like us who enjoy getting on the hobby.

I’d pay 700 for memory banks, a better display, and a faster processor. I wouldn’t pay anything for it if it lacks memory banks. I like my 400 for basic operation, but frequency management is night and day-different on my FT3D with memory banks. I’ll never go to another mobile rig without banks. PMG has its place, but in my opinion it doesn’t replace being able to quickly load receive groups with of dozens of frequencies.

IMHO the PGM feature is more usable than memory banks. The ability to quick select a subset of 5 frequencies in memory into a quickscan memory bank with bandscope displayed works really well, especially so when in practice it is very easy to add/replace entries in the PGM quicklist. Banks are "old school" - dynamic quick search PGM is so much better.

I tend to be a Yeasu guy, but as far as memories go, I like the feature of the Icom 5100 that compares your location to a list of repeaters and automatically programs in the repeaters that are closest to you. Great feature for a mobile radio. However, I do tend to like to organize my programmed frequencies so that I can pull up a set of emergency frequencies, a set of frequencies used by the local radio club, and so forth.

I doubt it, factor in the cost and what they are giving up selling the speakers... I can see a $699 price point being realistic - which means in reality more like $749. Fully "kitted" 200 with voice module, bluetooth module, speaker and extension cables is pushing real close to $700 already.

A March release date does not mean March 1st so I know people will be disappointed. Price is NOT a direct conversion and many things impact the cost. It is a really amazing radio and since you are just across the river from me (I am in WI) maybe I will have to have a QSO with you on sometime. Also Matt 🤣🤣🤣 he should get some education on things. Especially when you offer to provide correct details (in private) and he blocks you

How is memory banks "not necessary?" Who cares if its necessary? It would most likely just be a simple software update. I want it on a mobile. I like it on the FT3DR. I think it makes it much easier to use while moving to other areas that have different repeaters. I want memory banks.
