The FTM-500 release is likely right around the corner! I take a look at how radically the design has changed from the touch interface of the 400 to a tactile one on the FTM-500.
Yaesu FTM-500 is a 50W mobile VHF/UHF ham radio with lots useful features. Join me as I share what I am learning about this awesome radio. I'm using it as a base and mobile rig as I explore the VHF/UHF ham frequencies!

Thank you for the video. I like the large display, knob-based interface, speaker in the control head, and mike connecting to the control head for remote mounting. 73's

My 400 died after 5 years. Yaesu said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it which makes me weary of buying a similar radio but I did love the 400. It’s unfortunate the shape of the 500 head isn’t more like the 400 I feel like it fit in vehicles very well being flat. I will eventually replace the 400 but the 500 doesn’t excite me to much. The “BIGHEAD” with the big knob is a pretty firm “no” from me at this point. What does it bring me that the 300 and 400 I have don’t? Not enough to buy it.

This addendum video just make me all the more anxious for Yaesu’s U.S. release of FTM-500. I agree with your synopsis of Yaesu’s shift from GUI to tactical functionality. There is a sense of certainty-a confidence-with knobs, buttons and switches that is lost with touch GUI. I have come to dislike t-GUI over the years. For me the deal breaker for purchasing the FTM-500 will be a price tag over $700 or what I would consider over priced essential add-ons/accessories sold separately to keep the radios base price low. Thank you for this post.

So how well is okay, no problem or bug? How sensitivity and intermodulation under external antenna how is it going? The usual complicated MENUs to use as always by Yaesu? Do you recommend it or ? tnx 73
