Christian Pederson is a University of Washington (UW) doctoral student in physics and a UW Clean Energy Institute Graduate Fellow. He is a member of associate professor Kai-Mei Fu's research group, which explores optical, electronic, and quantum properties related to defects in crystalline structures. In this video, Christian showcases the custom microscopes and lasers that the Fu group uses to study light and materials near the atomic scale. Atomic-scale defects in crystals are a crucial element of quantum computers, which will allow scientists to simulate a wide range of molecules and devices for future clean energy technologies.
