I wouldn’t trust what the vehicle system tells you. The best way to test is: 1. Start your test drive on a full tank 2. After your test fill it up again 3. Calculate the distance driven divided by the gallons you filled up. Example: 100 miles driven divided by 3 gallons of gas. That’s really the true way of finding out accurate mpg of a vehicle

Thanks for your comment. I saw some videos where RU-vidrs do that, but it also has to be very accurate to ensure you stop the pump at the same time before and after fillup, and it's the same pump etc... I think we can rely on internal computer otherwise it would be false data and could lead to lawsuits. Also my test includes cold start as you would normally do before starting a trip.

Are those 22s rough? Would you recommend 21s? 20s are not being considered.Thanks.

Thanks for stopping by. I drove X5 and X6 on same 22s on this channel and the ride was equally smooth. In my finding 21 inch is the sweetest spot for the wheel size. They still look good but your tires will last longer. With 22s after about 15K miles you will start hearing tire noise. Another huge thing with 22s is you can break a wheel much easier, even BMW says you should slow down on roads with imperfections, so 22s really mostly for the looks than being practical. Hope this helps.

What was your average speed? It looked like you were crawling and were getting passed by cars doing “normal” highway speeds the whole time. Super irrelevant review unless your audience is 70+….
@100miledrive
@100miledrive 4 месяца назад
I was keeping pace with the flow of traffic, maintaining speeds between 65 and 75 mph, but not exceeding 75 mph. This range ensures relevance for MPG testing, as going beyond 75 mph could skew the results. Since driving styles vary, I aim to maintain consistency by employing the same benchmark for similar highway tests.

Does the X3 have a mild hybrid 48v engine coupled with the inline 6? also, the new iDrive system has shortcuts, either swap down from the top of the screen to see them (like your smartphone), or tilt the iDrive controller up. You can also use voice command for pretty much everything, including turning on heated seats, A/C, rolling down the windows etc.

Thanks for the comment. Good to see that many folks do like new curved screen design and new functionality. I did see a video on the shortcuts on Idrive 8.5. Honestly that looks like a work-around. And yes you can make everything work on the touch screen, but in my opinion by doing this BMW blends itself in with other automakers like Hyundai, Kia, Cadillac. Basically anyone making the same move by getting rid of all the buttons and not being unique. Porsche and Mercedes have more unique approach by giving a mix of some buttons and most other fnctions to be operated from the screen. As for the mild hybrid X3 M40i does have mild hybrid as well.

My dream car. I like that BMW offering RWD version of X5. I think this car better than with xDrive. More reliable, less maintenance, better gas mileage, cleaner steering, less price. Most people live in places where they dont need AWD...
@100miledrive

Thanks for the feedback. Agree on the maintenance and a specific feel for RWD cars which is nice, but for SAVs, crossovers I started liking AWD approach as it gives more confidence. Even here in California, even when it rains I can floor my car and it has no wheel slips, only in turns occasionally. Acceleration is also for AWD feels quicker, even though its about the same and an option to go on snow which doesn't happen often but still nice. But to your point yes most people probably don't need AWD and are fine with RWD, it's just my experience. For coupes I will take RWD any day over AWD as it is more connected with the road and you can experience the thrills of RWD in pretty much anything you do.

I like your details around @7:00 on the "overwhelming" sense the display can give. I just watched a few vids on a Toyota Sequoia and its screen display is very Android Auto in a way - big buttons, limited choices. I'm looking at a purchase for my mother who's 70 in a few months. She's not used to touchscreens in cars. I like that 'big button, limited choice' option for her. I wouldn't want her struggling to see one small icon mixed in with 19 others and getting distracted as she's going down a highway. These systems should over a choice, perhaps, to change from "in depth" to "basic", depending on the needs of the driver who could change between the two at will, with an easy button push. Thanks for the vid.

Thanks for the feedback. As I review more cars I can see how the entire automotive industry is shifting towards Tesla approach by eventually having everything in the screen. And eventually we all going to end up with electric cars. I agree that for someone in their senior years these modern screens would be completely overwhelming. There are still some automakers that still make buttons. Like Honda CRV Hybrid I reviewed still has scroll controls for climate control and few essential buttons.

you re not using idrive properly. Get off the app screen and use the normal home screen. Only negative is lack of physical climate. 2024 x5 is much better than x3.Drives better. Looks much better - do not like rear end and tail lights of x3. Ive driven both - power is similar - x3 is louder. I have the '24 x5. coming from a '22 x5.

Thanks for the feedback. I do understand what you mean by using home screen and memory buttons have been replaced with what's called shortcults or gesture shortcuts which can be accessed with idrive control. Yes it works but just like climate controls - everything is in the screen. You can certainly get used to this but do you really like it more over the old system? As far as X3 M40i vs X5 it really depends what is your priority as I mentioned in my other 2 videos. If you want more engaging driving then X3 M40i is the car to get. It is 1 full second faster. X5 is all about comfort and luxury as it has better materials, primarily better base seats. It has good driving dynamics but it is not as engaging. I like both cars.

Thanks these videos have been great. Been on the fence of x3 vs x5 with B58 engines. Would you say getting a MY2023 X5 might be a better choice given price drop and interior layout design? I also don’t like the new iDrive8 look.

Personally I would prefer 2023 BMW X5 40i over 2024 LCI refresh if I could find one in pristine condition, basically lightly used. 2023 has mild hybrid tech, I don't see previous gen IDrive system being behind new 8.5 by any means unless you are a huge fan of new curved screen and aps integration versus menu and physical buttons. Power wise it's about the same in terms of the feel. Base X5 is not meant to be driven aggressively, that is not the language of this car. X5 50E is what a real jump from 45E in power and battery size for a plugin hybrid, but for base X5 - 2024 is not smth I would consider a next level. It's light LCI with stuff I don't particularly like.

no 2024 is better. Faster and handles and steers much better somehow, especially in comfort mode. Think it includes active rear steering. Exterior looks better. New idrive is better except for climate function, which is annoying. - had a '22,.
