believe it or not...I had an Air scoop like that on my car...it literally pulls the air away from the carb and starves it out at hi speeds.... Ford used to remove the Hi beams and run hoses directly to the carb thru a special air 'cleaner' so to speak... I was a teen an didn't quite understand the dynamics of the air flow,,, having it facing the back air was pulled out of the engine bay to cool it... it really wasn't a scoop... that's what the tubes running from the hi beam 'removal' did... look it up...in Ford race cars with that scoop...they always supplied air to the car thru the hi beam headlight delete holes
We likely need to do some testing with small strips of paper taped to the back of the scoop, hood, and just in front of the windshield to see where the air flows. Our theory is that one of two things happens: 1) dead air at back of scoop/base of windshield gets pulled into air cleaners. 2) or air coming through the radiator has an easier exit at top of engine which improves radiator cooling, but means hot air is being pulled into the air cleaner
