Solid review. I know the feeling that Fuji cameras can bring. It’s like a classic car that doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of newer ones, but is built to stir the soul.
Stunning video! I’m a first-time Fuji user. I eventually chose the X-S10 due to its better availability/pricing, plus the included image stabilization lets me use the 50-230mm kit lens (the kit came with 2 lenses) without a tripod. The film simulations are gorgeous and I never wanna go back to editing RAW files when I don‘t have to. Cheers!!
The camera doesn't matter. It is the photographer's eye and his/her ability to capture an image that fully encapsulates the photographer's visualisation of the scene that matters.
I think people forget its the film simulations that sell this thing. The Ricoh is meant for a beginner/average photographer who wants decent colors and a quick experience. The display is horrible and no viewfinder is frustrating. Fujis colors stomp Ricohs and those film sims are crisp, plus that 35 is a much nicer focal length. Would never go back too the Ricoh!!!
Awesome video! I have been waiting to get a 100V for a long time and suddenly there were some in stock at B&H I ordered just before a short trip to Mexico. Packed the mirrorless bodies and lenses and kept the 100V available to use. I did use the mirrorless and a couple of lenses but found that I used the 100V more and have been amazed by the quality of the images since getting home and looking at them in C1. It brings me back to when I fell in love with photography decades ago!
I've had an X100F, XT3, and XE4. The camera I always go back to is the XE-4. Size of the X100 series, but with lens options. I have both the 18mm and 27mm pancake to scratch my rangefinder itch.
12:49 "I don't want a moment to turn into a photosession" SO TRUE, especially when I go on a holiday trip I don't really wanna bring my fullframe cameras due to the bulk of it and not enjoying the vacation as it's meant to be
Thank you! I can't tell you how many times I have brought a mirrorless with say a 24-70 out with me and for some reason felt more pressure to create really nice imagery which led me to not wanting to shoot. I know not everyone is like this - but it happened to me often and eventually just left the bigger camera at home. Unless its for client work or anything important, than of course the bigger cameras are still better.
Great camera. I have (too) many, but this is my go to for digital lug everywhere. Few people seem to mention the fact that this is one of few that have a hybrid viewfinder. Don't need to remove my glasses every 2 seconds; just keep the eyeball in the EVF-OVF and I miss nothing.
The only cameras that left a sad feeling once i sold them were gr,q and rx1. Couldn't connect with x100 series, you can get the same result with more practical bodies, and lens has no particular strength. İts pure romanticism and hence over hyped
I've been going back and forth on this camera and this video helped me decide that for now I am content with my Ricoh Griii. I'll eventually get a Fuji for the colours but the fact that the ricoh is smaller, has a lot of the features you mentioned PLUS has image stabilization is a huge win
@@edwardleefilms I managed to find a Fuji for a decent price! So far so good but I'm not swayed that it's worth the hype and honestly the ricoh is underrated imo
@@Gfp1995 Absolutely. The Ricoh takes even better pictures in some situations (IBIS). I sold my V and for the price you get a (used) Ricoh and a good used Fuji with interchangeable lenses.
I owned and sold my x100v right around when it first came out. It never felt great in the hand now that I think about it. And it has zero stabilization (if it even had digital stabe, I wouldn’t have sold it) and for video that would have been clutch. It also wasn’t as pocketable as other cameras meant for similar purposes. So all in all it wasn’t my favorite. But it definitely took some pretty shots, and was a dead sexy camera to look at for Damm sure. Other than that, no, I don’t think it’s worth the hype at all. Oh ya I also never got into the ovf hybrid viewfinder thing. Maybe I was missing out? Meh I don’t care. I’ve used real rangefinder film cameras and that ovf wasn’t doing anything for me personally. I think the main reason to use the x100v was definitely for the ability to tweak the colors, etc in camera. But since then I have learned to edit in post pretty easily and with more control and have also learned that I prefer to edit in post because every shot is different and requires it’s own look and feeling/mood that doesn’t make sense to me now to try and force and pre install prior to the shot. So that ability is pointless to me. I now prefer to shoot more flat and then figure out what the shot needs later on. But if you have a lot of money to have this as an extra fun camera, by all means have at it!! Super fun and dead sexy lol. Personally after many camera bodies/systems since, I have been surprisingly amazingly happy with the Sony zve10. Much smaller than the x100v. Has nice stabilization. And is super versatile as a perfect pocketable hybrid edc. I can rig it out for proper video shoots. I can throw a pancake on it for street and it fits in any pocket. I can throw a flash on it and shoot events. Does very well in lowlight. Tons of lens options and sizes. I’ve shot the Ricoh’s. The Fuji’s. The panasonics. I’ve even owned the Sigma fp at one point. Had The A7C and the Zv-1, and sold them both because this zve10 at the end of it all kind of fit that perfect place I was looking for, that checked all the boxes that all of those other systems lacked in some form or another. Ibis being a huge one apparently. Kind of does everything I need it to just well enough. A true Jack of all trades master of none kind of camera, that is really all we can ever hope for when it comes to finding that “perfect camera” lol
This is a very well thought out and detailed comment. Thanks for providing your input! I'm glad you found the perfect camera for you in the zve10. I've heard great things about that camera. I have yet to try the Ricoh's but I think at the end of the day, it comes down to price and usability for most
No it's not overhyped. The X-E4 is just *underrated*. It's legit got the same sensor and a pancake lens, without the ND/Flash. All simulations, 90% of the buttons... and the ability to swap lens. people just want x100v because tik tok told them to. the ND and flash are barely used in most cases for the people who buy these run and gun cameras.
Actually I'd say it is overhyped. I see no real reason why anyone would choose a fixed lens camera at that price. If you're paying that kind of money its kind of silly not to have options other than a 35mm equivalent field of view.
Great video! Got mine in June and have loved it!! Went from iPhone photography to this and it’s been so fun to use. Would have loved a Leica but this was a more budget friendly option!
They actually should be able to put in-body image stabilization inside of it. Another APS-C camera, the Ricoh GRIII, has in-body image stabilization and it's even SMALLER than the X100V.
It's also not weather-sealed and still eats up battery life and gets hot quickly. Ricoh has said the main reason they couldn't add weather sealing is because of size constraints. Fuji engineers have their work set out for them.
I love my x100v. But IMO after the TikTok trend drove the price up- there's no reason to pay more than the original $1300-1400 or so for this camera USD. There are interchangeable cameras within the Fuji line at this point that give you a similar if not better experience for less than half the price and you can spend the rest on lenses and accessories. If this is how it will be in the future I'm afraid the x100 series is done for as the appeal does not outweigh the new costs.
Agreed. I do not think this camera is worth it at the current market with people trying to profit. I bought this camera second hand for about $1100 so it wasn't too bad. But I would not recommend anyone buy this camera for $1400-1800. There are other cameras in that price range.
I feel like i need to try this camera. Having shot only film for the last 7+ years, i think i need to switch things up a little, and this feels like it could be the answer...
I think you will really like it! There are so many great cameras that Fuji makes but for what it's worth, many of my friends who primarily shoot film really like this camera too.
For those of you who want to get premium compact - you have sony rx100 series, fuji x-e series, olympus om10 series. And most importantly Ricoh GR III.
Yes. Way over hyped. Fun camera but demanding twice MSRP years after release for so so fixed lens with so so limited sensor camera. It’s fun but come on - it’s all about following the cool kid hype.
people like it cause of the built-in presets... big deal just like Leica stuck with one lens you can not change, only the simple minded amongst us would be tied to gear like that.. Modern day snowflakes are a joke..
C-c-c-catch the hype. There is no image this camera produces that a modern day flagship phone camera can't. And in fact phone cameras are far superior in so many ways. Just some people want to experience the classic rangefinder form-factor and retro appeal of having tactile controls. I get that. But again, let's not fool ourselves. Fujifilm's film simulations are just software. Nowadays everything will be software. Big lenses needed for extreme bokeh? Pfft! Calling DxO and Topaz Labs. Need large sensors for low light, low noise? pfft! Digital upscaling. AI. Denoise. etc. All software. And with where things are going, pro photography will be all but dead, relagated to photo journalism and news, and niche applications. Headshots now can be done with AI. AI is producing photos indistinguishable from real photos, only you can get it to produce better results every time, without any work. Anyway I digress. Bottom line, yes it is hype.. Camera folks poopoo smartphones, don't take them seriously, but the time is near when smartphones will permanently supplant MILCs permanently. The only way the camera companies will survive is if they partner mobile phone companies to at least save their brand, because that's all that is left when AI takes over. Sorry if I sound like a negative nancy, I'm just talkin' :)
Thanks for mentioning the digital zoom of 50mm and 70mm ! Literally no one talks about it. Sure it may come with a little downgrade in quality but still it is nice to be there with a fixed lens, it gives more room for flexibility.
Don't buy this camera if you already have a mirrorless or you will lose a lot of money. I was happy with my A7IV with a lot of cool Sigma, Sony, 7artisans lenses. One day I decided to buy this hype camera and I instantly forgot all my Sony and Sigma gear. Now I'm deeply in love with this camera and honestly, I don't know what to do you my "Pro" gear. Be careful if you buy this camera or you will forget about all the money you spent in too many lenses and the last trendy camera.
It is 100% HYPE. As someone who owns a XH2S, XH2, and a XT4 i can tell you that the youtube videos and the instagram reels are getting to peoples heads. This camera should not cost $2000 USED. At $1400 it is a DESCENT price at best when you consider the XT5 is $1700 plus $300 for lens and is a WAY WAY more capable camera. I'm not mad I love that people are looking at Fuji and realizing how kick ass they are but this is HYPE.
Although it's a high-quality camera, like anything, it's not for everyone. Former X-T2 and X70 user, I bought an X100F (as said in the video it's almost an X100v) that I thought I would love to use but I am selling it today because I never use it! I take better photos and videos with my Pana S5 (especially with an old lens) and with my new Ricoh GR IIIx which is really portable (it easily fits in a pocket). In my case the Fuji is simply stuck between the two and I'm a little sad because the device is absolutely beautiful!
Besides some erroneous words like "quality" instead of "size" , nice video. Not technical, not for real Pro photographers and not pretending to be. Well done.
Lol everybody needs to stop making these minimalistic reviews. Even videos like this build the hype even more. I can't even get my hands on one anymore lol
Politely disagreeing with most of the things said in this video: 1. The highlight roll-off of the Fuji X-Series cameras is not smooth and pleasing, but actually very harsh when shot in JPEG, even when making use of the provided in camera tone curve and dynamic range settings (because for most "film looks" you need to over-expose the images to make them look authentic) 2. The built in Film-Simulations don't look like film, but more like Instagram filters 3. To acheive an authentic film look you need to mod your lenses with expesive filters like mist filters, which just adds to the overall over-priced spending to actually get what was advertised. 4. Most film sims and recipes never turn out as advertised by Fuji or all these RU-vidrs and they obviously do way more editing to the images than they are admitting! That is a fact! 5. I found myself ultimately going back to shooting RAW on my Fuji, to benefit from the camera's size but not having to compromize in image quality. I am also tweaking my Fuji so the images look like my big old DSLR, because those images look truely amazing. 6. The X-Series is very much over-priced for a crop camera series and all the models with the same sensor and processor generation produce practically identical images and have almost the same features, which really bugs me that between an X-T4 and the X-T30ii is such a huge price gap while being merely identical cameras in terms of specs and image reproduction. 7. Going and waiting for an X100V or getting your X-E4 orders cancelled like Fuji did that internationally in April '23 instead of an X-T30ii is mindboggling to me, just to have that "nicer looking" body but losing functionality with a fixed lens and lack of dedicated buttons and dials, so you need to menu dive again. 8. The X-Series may be great for experimentation, but it takes way too long to find a look that you personally like and tweak it to the point on which you're satisfied and you spend way too much time to play around with simulations and end up with all kinds of different looking images in terms of style, when I think is most photographers goal to actually find and stick to something they can call their "own style" to set themselves apart from each other, which leads me to the next issue, which is that images look like everybody else's images, because of the wide spread of these cameras and the "same-y" kind of looks to the images across the board of photographers. 9. Coming from Full Frame and Medium Format bodies, it is hard to be satisfied with the crop sensor aesthetic the X-Series produces. (the images are optically flat/lack optical depth which you can actually get from full frame and bigger) and that is not a real "35mm film look" if the lens and medium's size does not align with what we are used to be seeing on REAL 35mm film, because the medium is smaller on Fuji X, the optics differ extremely (e.g. rear-lens-element-distance to the medium) 10. The lenses you can buy for the system are way too clinically "perfect" and boring (unpleasing Bokeh, too sharp, no vignetta and no fringing - which some people want, but not me). 11. The AF is slower and more inacurate than my TWELVE YEAR OLD DSLR! Especially in low light, my old DSLR does so much better, it is not even funny! 12. Battery life is extremely short and 3rd party ones from eespecially akkukingDOTnet (little shout out here, because they produce AMAZING batteries as well for old DSLRs) last a 25% longer than the original Fuji batteries! 13. The argument with the Digital Crop on the X100V to "capture moments" is nonsensical to me, because while trying to capture a "moment" you don't have time to switch to another crop factor and it would be better to just take the shot in full resolution and crop in post. 14. The lenses don't produce any vignetting (to me that is a deal breaker for wanting to have the images look "vintage" or like film and an actual vignette from a lens that has been shot wide open is not just super pleasing but also acts as a "built-in radial transition ND filter, which does not exist on the market other than in a lens with natural vignetting, which helps preserving highlights in the sky by a lot, which the X-Series constantly blow out because you need to over-expose so much as stated above. And adding it in post does not have the same effect, because you can't restore lost information in JPEG and it is also hard in RAW if it is completely blown out!) 15. The consistancy of the semi-auto modes is less than reliable! With my old DSLR I just set the rules for lets say A-Mode and I can rely on that the outcome to be exactly what I wanted it to be, each and every single time - but not with the Fujis! They are often way over or under-exposed, no matter which meatering mode you use. On the other hand, that makes me actually shoot more often in Manual Mode again, but especially for Street, you want to be able to rely on your camera and not have an "I screwed the shot" moment (which I don't have with my DSLRs!). 16. The EVF doesn't show the actual brightness of the final image when using semi auto modes and having the exposure compensation set below -1, 2/3 stop even though it is set to correct settings that would dictate an accurate display! That caused me to under-expose a lot shots in the past because the EVF showed a brighter image than it would actually capture! In manual mode it displays all as intended though, but why not in A-Mode?! 17. I constantly need to switch between different Auto-ISO limit presets (e.g. ISO800 as max and ISO3200 as max), because the camera tends to always use the max allowed ISO value that you set as limit, even though there is plenty light so you could compensate with a faster shutter speed value, causing the camera to over-expose and make the images look noisy, even though you I had exposure comp set to -2/3. 18. Compared to other cameras the exposure comp on the Fujis is also not reliable and I have to dial in a lot higher values to get what I want, or to switch to manual to get it right. Especially in low light. And again, I don't have that issue on my DSLRs, but I indeed had the same issue with the mirrorless Nikon Z6 and it was very frustrating! There is absolutely pros to the X-Series cameras, but mostly in regards to size, weight and handling. I wish it took photos like my DSLR and I don't understand the hype at all, but only to have a size benefit when being "on the go" or travelling or being more stealthy but then to sacrifice "image quality" that a slightly bigger camera provides is questionable. I have not made up my mind entirely on the Fuji X-Series, but so far I am not convinced and will very likely just stick to my beloved DSLRs and just embrace the size and weight. I mean paired with a nice small prime you can counterweight these factors by quite a bit. And if you don't want to bother over changing lenses, then just stick to e.g. a 35mm and don't bring anything else than that and you don't need a fixed lens that takes that decisions off your back. Because the 23mm f2 on the X100V is not that superior to the other Fuji lenses, nor does it compensate for the crop sensor look, which bothers me the most personally. Just my two cents on the topic.
whenever I watch video made by pro photographers on any topic it's just blow my mind how good they are. the lighting the shuttle music. it's so sensual its feel like am watching a ASMR porn. kudos to you man
Thanks for posting this. I have the x100vi on preorder. Since it wasn't coming in time i almost went and bought a Nikon Z6ii but i've decided to hold it out because of this video. You basically summed up all the reasons why I had ordered one in the first place and I'm excited to get it into my hands now
Couldn’t agree more, its the feel ofthe camera….but also the feel of the images coming straight out of camera. My x100v is my goto walk, run and ski camera that always comes along. Iphone colors look like shit, images are oversharpened, skintones are plastic. Yikes…..its good for catching photos of receipts for the company card though.
Nothing special, all hype, the pictures look like. crap honestly, highlight blown. Color, well, very digital. My nikon CCD DSLR from 2008 is much better in image quality.
I just managed to grab this lightly used for £1200 along with some cashback. Not bad especially for the prices I've seen online! Even if I sell I will get my money back but lets see
@@edwardleefilms yes definitely agree. I’ve got my daughter the Fujifilm liplay so if her passion grows I can definitely pass this on. It came today and loving it so far. Just need to learn everything as there’s so much I can do 🥰
Love all these influencers hyping up products to the point you can’t even get them anymore and then then turn around and make videos asking if they’re too hyped.
Yeah I was in the same position. I definitely think a compact point and shoot will solve that blocker for you. Doesn't have to be this X100V. So many awesome point and shoots out on the market now
Its all about how it makes you feel. I have a substantial lineup of Leica M cameras and lenses, and im considering this just for that "easy to grab and throw in your pocket" aspect. looks much smaller than the Q2 which would be my obvious choice.
I think that has always been the draw of Fujifilm. My A7RIII there is always work to do with the RAW files. But with Fuji the jpegs are so beautiful and it's lovely. I don't think I'd ever get a fixed lens fujifilm, but I will definitely get one.
4:04 The dr400 mode, in short, distributes the exposure more evenly thru the exposure of the images, removing the necessity of underexposing for highlights. It does this by requiring you to shoot at iso 640 or higher. This allows the camera to underexpose the hi lights of an image while boosting the mid tones and shadows…. basically what you eventually do in post if you underexposed your images. It does all of these calculations prior to the analog to digital conversion, so it works in RAW! Some videos on the topic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RjjCa73XxsY.htmlsi=3cDnXCeQ2lWGSirO ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HsuIApe6gvI.htmlsi=lV8A8NSNNswWeLg0
i'm honest i was searching for something to kill my hype for it but now i can reason why and how much i want it

Thank you for this. Would you have any recommendations between the X100V & the XT-5? I have a SONY A7IV & a film camera, and I'm hesitating between them both to have something a little more compact to take with me on some trips. Mostly documenting my travels, daily life, interior design, & eventually do some videos.
If you need some video capability, Id definitely go XT-5. Its a better hybrid camera with interchangeable lenses. If you need a true point and shoot and something small, then the X100V. But by the sounds of it and what you need, I'd go XT-5
I didnt buy it because the lens and autofocus and manual focus wasnt not up to my expection. I had an older model before. I wait for upgrade. I would also loke if the camera had more minimalistic operation like Leica Q2. And it would feel better if X100 wss little more heavy.
Hello! Loved the video! 😃😍 I have a question doe , what camera where you using to shoot this video? I tried to look in the comments and in the description, but I couldn’t find any info. Hope you see my comment and keep up the good work!🎉 😊
I was wondering about this, I love photography but I also want to do videos. Kind of vlogging like videos, does anyone know if this will work? I want something that feels like beautiful like this but I also know he said it wasn't for videos... I am very interested in this camera.
This camera is ridiculously overpriced, hinders creativity with fixed lens, terrible ergonomics, mediocre IQ and there are so many better other options. Having a fixed lens and using a digital computation is well, not good. Agreed low light is on par with a cellphone. It's merrily a cultist obsession generating hype. I found it to be missing so much and after a few months I sold it for twice what I paid.
Yeah I cant deny that. It's definitely a hyped camera right now. I think its an amazing camera at the retail price but would never pay 2x the price for it
Get the 100f.. save yourself $1000.. same film sims, same sensor.. and no waiting 3-5 months to get the bloody camera. Best part of owning a x100f was the resale value
If Ricoh manages to fit IBIS into their GRIII cameras, it's hard to argue the same couldn't be done in the MUCH larger body of a X100. That being said, I do think the Film Simulation RAW to JPG processing in Fuji cameras is nice but by no means unique. Fuji makes it really easy to use. The raw processing engine in modern Ricoh cameras offers comparable results - better/different, however you want to look at that. The Olympus Pen F really sets the standard around that as a concept that a whole camera is built around - and pssst... you get best in class IBIS with all Olympus cameras. I think if I'd be in the market for a Fuji camera, I'd look into an XE4 over the X100V. Or go straight for an X-Pro3.
These are all valid and fair points. I have been hearing a lot about the Ricoh cameras and I think I will test one soon. I have seen the X-Pro3 in person and it looks really great
10:21 Honestly, ibis is useless for video... ibis would help me take longer exposure shots. For video, ibis never did anything for me. luckily the x100v is small enough to fit on most mini gimbals. I still use gimbals with cameras that have ibis, because again.. ibis alone is never good enough for stable video (almost all video stabilization is still done by digitally cropping the frame or in conjunction with optical stabilization).
I only shot Fuji x100t but I don’t get the hype. I don’t find photos stunning and it just works ok. I don’t see greatest photos. I had XPro 1. First time Fuji did mirrorless. No hating Fuji. Just it feels like an overhyped camera like the x100 series
Name another camera that is as good for the price? I can't think of anything close. Also youtube is tapped out on Fujix100v videos. No more analysis needed. It's $1500. Life goes on.
I'm currently saving for one I have an xt5 which I love love one four just walk about photography say stopping on the side of the road when I'm driving and seeing something interesting I've seen a few on Facebook Marketplace as well as people sell them to upgrade but I already have the upgraded xt5 so this was always going to be my second fuji camera
