@@mklives2 and considering there are accessories to mitigate this, having the option to be compact or to be comfortable means it's a practically a non issue
@@mklives2 If that is your criteria for fun, then that is totally valid. Using cameras that work for you and fulfills your needs and wants is important.
Great video. Thank you for focusing on your experience, not the specs. Last year I got the x100v as a travel camera and I love it. No more slowing down and missing shots because I don't know what lens use. My neck and back don't hurt from the weight of my DSLR. And it easily fits into my bag when I don't want it exposed.
A few tips here: Turn off the Bluetooth on the X100V, battery life increases a little. Use a lighting to SD card adapter. It is a lot faster to connect that little thing to download your pictures to your iPhone/iPad than getting a successful connection between devices. Anyway, file transfer speeds are noticeably faster from the reader than wireless and the SD card adapter is small and lightweight (you can keep it in the same bag with your X100V).
Yes! I keep a lightning to SD adaptor in my bag so I can easily transfer the JPEGs from the camera. I never have to mess with my computer or editing station at home. It’s awesome!
Every photographer MUST have it in the bag or the pocket. It’s the perfect camera but it’s the one that makes you feel you explore your creative zone. I recently upgrade my X-T3 for the X-H2 (it’s a really upgrade for me - no doubt) but I kept my X100F because I love it so much. I didn’t upgrade the V because I’ll miss the 4ways pad.
I don’t own this camera, but I am a fujifilm user. And I’m so happy that a Fuji camera is your favorite camera. I know it doesn’t replace your Sony or canon cameras, but this is what I love about fujifilm myself. They’re just fun! 👍
Thank you for reminding me why I love this camera. I bought one in each colour and needed some reassurance that I wasn’t just being extravagant with my spending.
I agree with everything you said here, Manny. The X100V is certainly my favorite camera I’ve ever owned and the provides the most enjoyment of any digital camera I have ever used. What’s more, I haven’t touched my film cameras since I got my first Fuji camera…it’s essentially the perfect “point and shoot” for serious photographers.
Love this camera. Hasn't left my side since purchasing a few months ago. It's reimagined the way I take photos and forces me to think differently and more creatively. So dope.
Hey just letting you know that you’re comments are getting spammed by someone pretending to be you asking to text on telegram. They responded to my first comment.
Manny, the most reliable way I’ve found to transfer jpegs to my iPhone is to go to Image Transfer Order when playing back your images on the camera, then select the photos you want to transfer on the camera, open the Fuji app, and then make sure you have Auto Transfer on. When you shut off the camera, all of those selected images will transfer to your phone. I’ve never had any luck with selecting the images from within the Fuji app. I’ve only had reliable success with the auto transfer feature from the camera. Hope this helps.
Manny I am really happy to be back on your channel after a couple of years away from photo/video content and see how better and better you are getting and pushing forward your skills and channel (stopped watching everything about P/V when you was about 200k big) Among all photo or videographers, you were my favorite and after a long time I can say it again: Manny Ortiz, my favorite content creator and artist (And believe me, I know almost all ;) Good to be back here 😊
Good video. I'm 69, have used countless cameras in my lifetime and have settled with my favorite all around camera, The Canon VT Deluxe with a Voightlander 21mm f4 Color Skopar ltm. Exquisitely made and profoundly satisfying to use. ☕📷👍
Good tip regarding the use of the ND filter when moving back and forth between dark and light environments. I have assigned the ND on/off function to the click feature of the back command dial. With the hinged thumb rest attached all I have to do press my thumb against the rest to toggle the ND filter on and off.
Great video! Love the feeling and the music, has a nice GxAce vibe to it. I love my X100V, I use it whenever I don’t wanna carry a heavy camera or when I want discrete and silent camera.
Always love a good not-specs-and-news video :-) I recently started shooting full-frame for my wristwatch hobby at home, and now I’m having a fun experiment for the “do I want to leave the house with the best quality, or the best convenience” question.
The flash is extraordinary to me because due to the leaf shutter of the x100v you can use the flash with a shutterspeed of 1/2000. Very handy if you want to brighten up an object in the foreground without overexposing the background.
Definitely my favorite camera! It made me excited about photography again. And I agree it makes me actually document life now in a way I never wanted to do with my phone.
Something I learned fairly recently is that there is already a built in shortcut button to turn the ND filter on/on - just pull and hold the OVF lever for a second or so. So there’s no need to dedicate a Fn button to it.
The slim, round, chamfered Nisi combined hood/filter/weather seal is great for the x100 series (and the x70). Very compact, lets you slide your camera into your pocket or bag more easily, and the colours (silver or black) even match precisely.
I’ve been shooting with the x100T for a few years. Great tool. I’ve shot concerts with it as well. I would recommend getting one of those red buttons to put on the shutter button. Not only do they look great but I find it makes it easier to press the shutter when out shooting.
For the Fuji remote app, on some of my devices I had to manually disconnect them from whatever WiFi network they were on to allow them to connect to the camera. This is because the camera runs a dedicated network to make a direct connection to the device on which the mobile app is being used. On most of my devices the network switch was transparent, but there were a few where I had to manually do a wifi disconnection first.
I tape a 1/4 CTS to that tiny flash, crank up the shutter speed and use it as fill to shoot against the sun. Works really well. Also I have found that just a little strip of black gaffers on the front of the camera where my finger tips rest, it helps with the grip quite a bit.
Nikon full frame landscape shooter but got this camera for a walk around and it’s so much fun, really enjoying my photography in a way I didn’t realise it could be. Can’t quite shift the Raw / edit habit yet but starting to play with the JPEG simulations.
I am a Sony shooter as well and I finally broke down and got this a few months ago. It's basically sold out everywhere for the MSRP. I was able to get an all-black one from Fleabay for 1800. I am pleasantly surprised by it. It stays in my daily backpack and is small enough to carry in my shoulder sling bag when I want to travel light. It is a recommended purchase if you have the budget. I opted for the following mods: Peak Design Slide Lite, JJC Aluminum grip, JJC Lens hood, and a red shutter release button.
Now you've got me wantoing one. My first Fujifilm was the X100T, I I eventually sold it when I upgraded to an X-T2. I've always shot raw, but your mention of using the X100 purely as a JPG camera really sparked my interest. It makes it a very distinct experience from my X-T2, as you say, a camera to take with you everywhere, a big step up from a phone, & it seems to me more of a "play" experience than a "work" one.
This a really beautiful video about this gorgeous camera and I was sure even before you told it, that this video took you a lot of effort and time… but that was worth it. Thank you.
Thanks mate, you are so good. You’ve got a gorgeous family and your shots are so good. I love doing candid shots, like you. Although I’m an Olympus man, I’m very taken with your setup. Keep up the great work.
I use the Nikon Z9 for my professional work and the Nikon Zfc for my walk around, vacation camera....staying in the same system. Amazing image quality on the Nikon Zfc. I have the Fujifilm Xt20 which was awesome as well but stayed with Nikon because the raw files were simpler to process.
I love the modern digital "compacts". I don't have a Fuji, but I do use a Sony RX1Rii, and have for 6 years. I love it, and still - today - it is such fun to use. I have been tempted by the Fuji X100 range, but, I like full frame and the dynamic range and croppability offered by the Sony. I also often print large format, so that is why I opted for the latter. But I respect the Fuji very much
To counter not having to use the Fuji app I bought a USBC to SD card reader for my iPhone and it solved all my issues wanting to get my jpegs right away.
The most advanced thing about this camera is that it uses a Leaf Shutter in the lens. So in flash photography, you can shoot from f2 at 1/2000 shutter mechanical, and at f4, you can shoot at 1/4000 mechanical (no need for High-Speed Sync). The only modern camera that uses a Leaf Shutter is the Hasselblad camera. I am currently I Fujifilm Camera user (X100V, XT-4, XH-1, GFX50SII, and GFX50R). I used Sony, Canon, Panasonic, and Olympus, and I like the Fujifilm ecosystem much better for my style of photography.
The plan of focus corresponds to a 23mm focal length, not 35mm, since it's a 23mm lens. The crop sensor has nothing to do with how easy/hard it is to focus, it just crops.
Manny, I’ve been a silent watcher of your videos since the early Sony days. I came to the same conclusion that I just want a simple fun/classic camera for family outings and came to the same conclusion with the X100V. Can’t wait to see you make more content with this - hopefully you get to do more videos with the WCL-II or TCL-II. Keep it up! The B-roll looks stunning.
Hey bro! Hope you’re doing well & getting everything you need. I work in healthcare so I always wish others good health! Thanks for all the art you share with us. Take care sir!
I Feel like every one of us photographer needs a simple small camera with good quality Just for us and our trips with our spouses or kids without using our main camera gear with all the lenses. Good video Manny, hope all is well.
@@ofmetalphilosophy4837 That’s nice man !! My main camera is a Nikon Z7ii but I’m looking for a small everyday camera. Definitely will look that up on my list
I shot the X-T2, but sold to move into the full-frame world and use a more reliable portrait camera for my portrait work (A7III), but since I'd like to travel in the future more, and do some travel content, I'm gravitated toward Fuji again, just the X100 line. Love the X100V, but it's a bit pricey for just a fun, travel/street camera, so not sure. Maybe I'll go with the V or the F, but it seems ton of fun using, and really simple, which can make photography a fun stuff to do. And also pretty as heck. The X100 line and the X-Pro line by Fuji are the prettiest cameras ever
Excellent and honest review. I felt it because a long time ago I felt this kind of connection with my old Canon 5D (mark 1) and I was literally documenting my everyday life and people that I love. I've been searching for a similar companion for a long time but nothing clicked, it's all just pro-equipment sleeping in my pelican case between jobs. Maybe I will get X100V because of this video.
beautifully done - i love my x100F hoping Fuji builds in IS next gen of this camera and of course keeps the flip screen that the ‘V’ version got 📷📸📷 Fuji!
I feel the Fuji x100 series and the Xpro series will be cameras that will truly stand the test of time and they will still be around with people shooting them in a decade. Fuji definetly made something special with these.
Also notice how well it will focus even in super dark settings. banging video and hits all the notes I feel when using this gem of a camera over my “pro” cameras/lenses.
You are not alone in that assertion ,- i got a xt-3 , as my first - Digital mirrorless - post analog - kamera,- i was a Nikon shooter, and 16 mm cam ass.on and off for 40 odd years - then Fuji happened - and i kept all my Old glass - so with a "SpeedBooster" and a couple of step up`n down rings and adapters , i have ,,,, well rather large slew of great glass for the XT-3 - the rest is history - i love that Xt-3 , and i really dont wanna try anything else , not in this moment - im a happy shooter as it is ,- Thanx for a fine little video - and do know - i watched cam gear videos for years now ,- and i have 4-5 photgraphers - all Fuji shooters , that i follow , just to keep up on new stuff and then these , more thoughtfull shorts- and ,- youre one of them. Good shooting and have a perfect day 😎
Thanks Manny for a great photo. Would love to see a follow up video on the way you use this camera. What settings do you prefer, etc. keep up the great videos my friend.
This is something I've been thinking of. Fuji has used the same sensor from their flagship like the x-t4, to the lesser bodies like x-t30/x-e4/x100v etc. I'm wondering what's in store for the next iteration of non-flagships. A 33mp would also make a lot of sense to bump resolution and to keep files smaller. A 33 or 40mp x100v successor with the much improved autofocus will be a considerable upgrade! Then there's IBIS and bigger battery to factor... Interesting times.
B roll was epic. I'm on the waitlist on BHPhoto and Best Buy for the X100V. Not in a rush to get one, but definitely looking forward to using it for fun.
man this is sooo true, my friends always asking about my cameras on vacation but i only bust out my phone, and not too long ago i bought a lumix GX9 and im in love with the size and the quality of the pics
Well said mate!! Try using brown leather case on that camera and the grip will blow your mind. Its night and day difference. No harm if you dont like them but you gotta try to feel the grip difference. It has to be leather case and adds girth to its body
I broke the battery door catch on my x100v, so now I use the original Fujifilm leather case, because its battery door flap holds the camera's own damaged door closed. And yeah, it feels great in the hand (less like a bar of soap). My case is black, on the silver and black version of the camera. Sweeeeet.
I have the Fuji X-100F and love it. I was unable to purchase the V because it was continually not available so I picked up the F. I carry it everywhere I go! I know from reading and watching videos that the V lens is sharper but I'm good with stopping down if I'm concerned about critical sharpness. I'll never part with this gem of a camera.
Love those flash photos! I’ve had this camera for a few years and i feel like there’s so much i don’t know to get the max out of it. This is making me want to pick it up again
“Love letter to the X100V” this was such a great video. Sometimes the feeling is missing from peoples videos. I felt this one. Also helps that I’ve been wanting to get one of these for my wife as an easy carry around camera that still takes amazing photos. Thanks!
I finally got mine last month after waiting three months on a back order. What does it for me is the workflow, having the film simulations processed upfront means no need to import and edit afterwards
Great vid! Wonderful shoot with the 90's look. Thanks for sharing something so personal. I loved the colors, editing and moments with the family pictures. I use the X100V professionally as it is just more fun to use, meaning a less obtrusive experience. I do miss shots occasionally using it because I can't get the focus right, which sucks, but that is compensated by having intimate moments, a lack of bulk, a good looking camera and less pressure. I would love to have Sony autofocus on this but well, I guess I can't have everything. In low light the autofocus can really be a problem, whereas a fullframe would struggle a lot less. I use the TCL-100 on there too. It's a screw on lens that turns the 35mm equivalent into 50mm equivalent. Although it would seem like having a bulky lens adapter on there would defeat the purpose of portability, I love it because I can just bring that little piece of glass and then screw it on if I want to take serious portraits. So with all the features of the X100V and with that lens adapter in my bag it's a full on photo solution for portraits. PS: I think GxAce deserves a nod here for the B-roll inspiration ^^
I've owned two of these. Silver and a black one. Sold them because I have the X-T4 and couldn't justify it. Yah I'm an idiot. The used market is selling them higher than retail. I hope Fuji comes out with a new one soon.
I completely agree with everything you said. My Sony is my work camera, and I hate lugging it around if it isn’t for an actually shoot. My x100f is my everyday camera and a joy to shoot.
