Watched this, closed the video and thought "damn those were some good settings, what a cool camera". Then had to come back and like the video. I usually shoot sony, this is my first fujifilm and im super excited to shoot with it.
I received my camera the day of it’s release on the 28th, being totally new to having a camera other than that my iPhone, I found this extremely helpful, thank you
I'm glad it helped! You picked a great camera to start off with. I've heard others not recommend it but I think starting off with a fixed lens is perfect when you're starting out. Keep it simple and have fun. Thanks for watching!
@@TomReplogle one thing that has had me going round in circles is trying to figure out how to get the film effects to work, I have a number of thing greyed out
@@kevinedwards2658 Sorry, just now seeing this. Did you get it figured out? If not perhaps try a reset. The film simulations should work fine right out of the box.
FINALLY! That OVF problem was driving me crazy!! You can use touch to activate the horizontal level and still use the OVF but not when the vertical level is active. Same with the histogram. The small normal histogram activated still allows you to use the OVF but not when the RGB histogram is on. Crazy.
The Squarehood MKIII hood was on in the video. The Model V lens hood is nice as well. That's what is currently on the front of mine....not sure which one I like better. The MKIII is sleeker. Thanks for watching!
the viewfinder do not work even if you enable the 3d level. My blood ran cold when I saw that it didn't work after just one day of use and then I realized. But it's actually something that isn't mentioned in the manual.
Hey there - do you know if the X100Vi allows you to assign the digital teleconverter to one of the buttons instead of the command dial? I can’t find it as an option. Thanks.
That's a good idea but unfortunately I don't see it as an option for the function buttons. Perhaps a firmware update in the future. Thanks for watching!!
Yeah, definitely can't beat the Leica experience...no question about that. I'm going to have to get more subscribers to start covering the latest Leica content....lol Thanks for watching!
I got mine today and was surprised how loud the 100VI lens was when hunting/focusing.. I never used 100V so I don’t have a frame of reference. Is that normal?
You can definitely hear it but I didn’t notice it any louder than the V…although it’s been about 6 months since I actually was able to use my V. Thanks for watching!
Hi. D Range Priority is available above 200 ISO so check that. Not sure on the Dynamic Range.....don't have my x100 handy. Both get greyed out at various ISOs. Bump it up to 400 ISO or AUTO and see if it's still grey.
Hi new to the X100Vi camera, I have noticed this thing with my camera where when I am cycling through the different film simulations on the LCD and move the camera around while the menu is open, the pan is really slow like 10FPS slow(almost laggy), but when I am done selecting the simulation I want, it goes back to normal? is that common behaviour?
Just checked mine and there's not a huge difference (if any) when switching between simulations. There might be a setting that is causing yours to be laggy. Under Power Management check your Performance and EVF/LCD Boost Settings. Mine is set to Boost | EVF/LCD Resolution Priority. Hopefully that fixes it. If not, you might want to reset the camera to factory settings and see if it still does it. Good luck!
@@TomReplogle Thanks for checking Tom, so in mine once the simulation is selected there is no lag what so ever, but specifically when the list of film simulation is open, and I am moving my camera around the LCD viewfinder is laggy? Once film is selected it goes back to normal?
Congrats on your VI! How do you like it so far? Mines like an old friend. So nice to be able to hand hold at such slow shutter speeds. IBIS is a beautiful thing.
@@TomReplogle I need to spend some time and "bond" with it haha. But I love the size and feel of it! Now just need to get out of the house and take some pictures!
Really nice video, thks for sharing. My X100VI arrived last weekend and I also have an X-T2 since 2016, and even after 7 years using Fuji I discover some cool tricks ;-)
what is the Point of Back Button Focusing compared to ShutterButton Focus? I can hold the Shutterbutton, holding the Focus and recompose the Frame. What am I missing? EDIT: tried the setting, and as a "from above" shooter, its absolutely unuseable to have it set that way - my hand can't do the twist 😂 not using the VF anymore, my left eye got worse over 15 yrs of taking Photos...so I hope sb can explain what I'm missing here, it just can't be only because of the Reframing, and that's what eb on YT is saying when they talk about BBF. No hate here if sb feels triggered, my way of commenting is just very unsympathetic😅
You must shoot in single-AF mode most of the time. Yes, the half press, recompose works great in that scenario. However if you want more flexibility you can set up bbf and shoot in AF-C or Manual AF and still be able to shoot like your in AF-S (just take your thumb off the AFL button) when needed or have have continuous AF (keep pressing the AFL button). I'm sure you can find many articles online about the benefits (and drawbacks) of bbf. At the end of the day do what works best for you. This works best for me.
Excellent tips! Love the swipe right for fast switching between film sims. Been trying to figure out a quick move for that for a while. Took a few rewinds of the video, but got there in the end 👍, so easy to forget how to navigate that menu, cheers from Neil in Bristol uk
I've read of others issue with EVF to OVF not working...are you sure it's screen activation triggering the OVF? One photographer wrote in a chat group, "3D level guage stops the OVF option. Makes sense in some way. Using 2D enabled the EVF/OVF option." Thanks!
You’re right, the 2D level doesn’t affect it and it’s actually shown in the OVF. The 3D level and Histogram is no bueno. There might be other settings that can cause the OVF from turning on….I guess we’ll find out as people use it. Won’t be me…turning mine off again! lol 😂 Thanks for watching!
I've custom film setting on the Function 1 tab, my 7 film simulations recipies on function 2 tab. This means you can easily select and scroll through both the films and your personal custom recipes efficently. I tried your swipe right to go b&w but you end up stuck there - so you end up visiting the Quick menue to escape. Its super nice to see how various people do things. Each to their own. Interesting, thanks.
Excellent tutorial. Just rec'd my X100vi (in black). My first X100 camera. Tip No. 2, partially disabling the focus lever removes one annoyance. Many thanks.
I tried the back button focus for a while, but I didn't care for it. I like the half-press. It seems to be quicker for me. I have the V and the 6. If I shot landscape, I would do back button focus. I would use HalfPress, which has a fantastic tracking feature for the street. It's so good.
You know I tried out the tracking and half press today shooting some street and I think you're right. This new tracking AF is perfect for that. Thanks for watching!
After many years using the BBF, I went back to the shutter button. I do BIF a lot and with the new mirrorless camera I can track the bird in flight faster than the BBF. The BBF was practical with DSLRs. The new mirrorless camera has improved the eye tracking exponentially. I shoot Canon and saw the video. Maybe there is room for X100 VI in my camera bag. Great video Tom. May be there is a setting for Manual mode, Auto ISO.
@@CarlosHernandez-kg8py yeah, I can see how the half press with tracking would work great for BIF. I used it today shooting some street shots and it worked well. Not sure yet if I’m ready to forego BBF quite yet but for some situations the half press seems to be the better option. I think you might like the X100 series. Great camera for documentary style shooting. I love the 35mm focal length so works for me. I hope all is well! Thanks for watching!
Tom - You always amaze me with your knowledge and the ability to trouble shoot and issue. Thanks for sharing what you have learned over so many years with the rest of us!!!! Also congrats on passing over 2 K subscribers - remember us small people when you become famous!
Really professional explanations. I never realised it was all so complex, being a 1960s and 70s film guy where I just chose a film stock and used two different SLR bodies….
Thanks! Yeah sometimes the choices and tech we have these days get in the way of the photography. It's nice to have the capabilities but it does come with a cost. Thanks for watching!
Great tips! I have one for you! If you press and hold the display/back button it jumps right to the custom button settings. Also, the OVF does work with the level activated and I keep that on swipe down. Great content. Love the tips on back button focus. The VI is everything the V was and more.
Hey Tom! How do you find the build quality of the camera comapred to the V? I've heard a lot of people saying that it feels more solid, in a food way, the added weight giving it more of a premium feel, or a real film rangefinder like feel. I will recieve mine towards the end of March - begining of April..at least I can use my V until then 😅. Also, I've already seen some guys on reddit reporting some lcd issues 😢 and I am a bit concerned giving the fact these are rhe first batches but finger crossed 🤞🏻 Greay video btw! Very informative for begginers especially.
Glad it helped! The build quality is great! I love my XT-5 but was really disappointed in its build quality so I had some concerns for the VI. The VI is solid, the extra weight does make it feel better in the hand in my opinion. I haven't had any LCD issues but some of the chatter could be by new owners still figuring things out perhaps. I guess with as many units that are shipping there will be a few duds. I guess we'll see. Congrats on your camera! It'll be worth the wait. Thanks for watching!
How does the filter ring adapter and lens hood fit on the 100VI, Ive been reading about it not threading on perfectly fit where there might be a slight gap now when the adapter is all the way fastened. How is it for you?
does your camera do buzz sounds too when turning on and off, like sending a fax? And also making noise when having the lever on C autofocus, I'm new to shooting, is that normal?
Wondering…just as You Ím setting up my X100VI - and I cant assign a function button role to the viewfinder selector switch. I’ve tried several different functions but it still doesn’t work. Does anyone know what’s wrong?
