21°C and sunny with a mild breeze in San Francisco today. Took my Leica with a 35mm lens out to a local park, sat on a bench and drank a beer. Lovely. I have enjoyed immensely watching the videos of your informal walks with a camera over the last couple of (trying) years. Thank you!
Wow, that sounds like heaven right now. I'm really glad you've enjoyed these photowalks these past couple of years. What Leica do you use by the way - is it film or digital?
Lovely video. Those crisp cold clear winter days are my favourite. I love how everything is sharp and still in those days. It's almost as if everything stops for a second just to enjoy the sun that will soon get covered over by clouds. It really lifts the spirits.
I have a Leica M10 I bought used a couple of years ago. I also have a Leica M6 and four lenses (21, 35, 50, 90) I bought new in !984 (before marriage and children). Sadly I don"t shoot much film these days so the M6 lies dormant. I do miss Kodachrome and have been delaying my desired return to Tri-X until the marvelous Harvey Milk San Francisco Photo Center public lab and darkroom opens up more fully. Also I enjoy using a Fuji X-Pro2 and a couple of Fuji lenses. Cheers!
That's proper cold. I have family out in Toronto and sometimes keep an eye on the weather there. The snow looked fun, but I think I prefer a light frost :-)
Thank you Christian. I'm still enjoying wandering around with my camera and it nice to be able to share the pictures, so thanks for watching as always. Many thanks 🙂👍
@@ChrisBoland you're welcome 🙂 for me it's a pleasure to watch your videos. I like them. And the storytelling is nice. But.. may I ask you a question? Do you also own the 16 1.4 and was comparing it with the 18 1.4? I have the 16 1.4 and thinking about to sell it for this one. Less distortion. Linear motor. And sometimes it feels bit to wide. What you think about it? Thank you for an answer 🙂
Thank you. Well, about the lenses - I have used the 16 1.4 but don't own it anymore. It was incredible - it had a look to it, a feel to the pictures. But I wouldn't own both 16 and 18 - I do find 18 more usable as a focal length. I can usually get by with 23(35mm) so anything wider is a luxury :-)
The light dusting of frost looks magical :) We've been getting some sun over the last few days, which compliments the snow well. On the bright side, the days are getting longer :)
Absolutely identify with the cloudy / short days being tied to mood and inspiration. I'll try my best to find interest in those other shooting scenarios. Here in the DC area we've been getting mostly cloudy days in the 30s and 40s. With snow every now and then, but nothing that lingers too long.
I love the story telling that accompany your photos! So poetic and gracefully presented! Thank you 😊 Just found your channel and subbed. I look forward to future content.
Great shots by the way, Props for being secure and daring enough to do that split composition around :08 seconds. And 1:03, 1:53 were some of my favorites.
If it's any consolation, I live in southern Spain and miss central heating amongst other wintry things, especially when it gets cold and damp indoors. But regarding the camera/lens combination, I'm personally delighted that you got it to function effectively because I had more or less convinced myself that both my 16mm f/1.4 and 23mm f/1.4 lenses would be too front heavy, although they aren't on my X-Pro1. I'm glad to be proved wrong because a purchase of a new X-E4 is now a distinct possibility. With the grip and thumb rest for added peace of mind and of course extra stability when needed.
Thanks Michael, it's nice to know the grass isn't always greener down south. It's certainly not as light and inconspicuous as the 18mm f2, but it gives a very different look that makes the weight worth it in many situations.
@@ChrisBoland The 18mm f/1.4 is probably the one lens that most closely resembles part of what I'm aiming for - an affordable but high quality alternative to the Leica Q2. But I bought the 16mm before knowing about its impending launch. One day I'll add it to my collection and I think you will find it really comes into its own with the next sensor series of Fuji cameras. Although you are clearly already getting excellent results with what you have.
January in your part of the UK is more like Oct/Nov in my part of Canada. January in Canada is -10C to -25C and makes using a camera difficult and dispiriting. I have far too many photos of the inside of my house taken in January. This is the most dangerous time of the year for GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome. I buy cameras and lenses because I want to do something with my photography but have nowhere to go.
Hi David, what part of Canada are you from? I haven't experienced those low temperatures for such a long time. Today it's going to be 21 and that'll be the last warm day for 6 months :-)
@@ChrisBoland I’m in Ottawa. Right now, it is Nov and unseasonably warm. Highs of 16 and lows of 0. Dec through March can be very cold, rarely above -10c and most -15c to -25c. I love your videos. You have such a calming demeanour and lovely photos. Time for me to get out for a photo walk again before it gets colder.
