You’ve shot your demo photos at 1/60th second - the difference in sharpness could easily be down to motion blur at that slow shutter speed. The fact that the autofocus was missing an essentially static target is proof that the autofocus hasn’t been improved anywhere near as much as the 33mm and other more recent lenses with linear AF motors.

X-H1 is a great camera. And oddly rather cheap 2nd hand. I have one too and a X-T1 in graphite. It’s just wonderfull.

Sharpness is almost identical while contrast is higher on a new lens.For portrait work the older is a tad better if you not using new 40mpix sensor. I think that most people does not like to see all skin defects which will be shown with newer lens.

For some shots there were motion blur due to slow shutter speed. It was just 1/60th. So it is too slow for 85mm FF Eq.

I clearly see the new lens renders better tonal resolution in the denim part of the image, resulting in better tridimensionality gained by all those wrinkles and textures.

I've got a couple of X-Series Fuji cameras as well as the older version of the 56mm f1.2 lens and I have to say I don't mind a less sharp lens when shooting portraits. In fact, I often adapt some of my old Canon FD glass to the Fuji because I like the look I get using those lenses. I also don't mind the slower auto focus because I don't shoot much action as most of my subjects are either static or moving relatively slowly.

It's great to hear this response. I bought a barely used XT-3 about 1 1/2 years ago with the 18-55. But, I have two Canon FD lenses and a Pentax 50mm. I love using the vintage lenses. Back in August I rented the 56 to shoot some portraits and it blew me away. Until the new one came out it was way out of my budget. But, I so excited that I bought one that is coming Friday. It was purchased new back in March 2022 and the owner is upgrading to the XH-2 and the new 56. He sold it to me for $475.00. I am so excited to have that lens. Even thought it's not as clinically sharp as the new one, it's really sharp. And, plenty sharp for portraits. I was about to pull the trigger on either the 50 f2 or a used 90 f2. But, this was too good to pass up.

@@charliejg I too shoot with FD lenses on my XT2 and love them. Im also after a Fuji 56mm - was close to buying the latest, used, mint, but I am wondering whether to opt for a used, mint 56mm R (first edition) I hope you are enjoying your 56mm :)

I have a fuji xh2 with 40 MP and I have doubts whether it is possible to take an old lens for such a matrix. Now, where I live, a new one costs 1200 €, and the old one can be taken in excellent condition for 400-500.

Thanks for the review but there's something very 'off' in the image from the old lens. Either you have motion blur or a dud or dropped lens. I regularly use the old lens, in fact I like it so much I bought a second copy before it was discontinued. the results are far superior to the image you exhibit here.

The lens was one provided by Fujifilm and I assume they have their lenses serviced correctly. I think the lens performed as it should based on my experiences. Its the relative performance that you’re seeing so any flaws are going to be highlighted more than if you just shoot normally with it.
