The 56mm is my 2nd favourite lens after the 35mm F1.4. I use it for family photos and they always turn out incredible. It even makes me look like a pro

I was in this dilema when switching to Fuji...great video 👏 I agree with all points with you, but the one that was the most important for me is the difference in close minimum focus which is ~40cm with 50mm f2 and ~70cm for the 56mm. That was the main reason to get 50mm for me since I shoot a lot small products and it is great for that purpose 😊
@erenjam

Yh that is a good point! 50mm can get pretty close in, makes it really useful for product work

I agree with you for most of the points except for the product photography argument. I think the superior minimum focusing distance of the 50mmf2 is way better for product photography than just the bokeh of the 56mmf1.2 Great video, thanks for putting the time! I own the 56mmf1.2 but I missed many shots with the poor autofocusing so thinking about getting the 50mmf2 to try
@erenjam
@erenjam 3 года назад
Good point! Its a trade off though, the 1.2 gives you a little more creative freedom but the f2 gets in closer.

I owe both. Though the 56 mm is heavier,I find I use it more often. There is some difference in the rendering that's hard to describe.

APD one AFAIR (unless they changed something recently) also disables phase detection autofocus as the APD element interferes with phase detection pixels or something like that.

Interesting, seems a real niche lens, be good for portrait work

I’m borrowing the 56 1.2 and also the 23 1.4 for my final week in Japan. I already had the 23 f2. I’ve found the 56 isn’t bad at run and gun in daylight, but you have to be stationary once the sun goes down, even in the neon glow of Tokyo. In a way, that makes it worth owning both lenses, as the two provide separate shooting experiences. My friend said that when he shoots portraits, his 56 tends to stay in his bag if he has the 35 1.4 attached to his camera. I have that one already, so I’m actually going to add the 23 f2 again for the pocket size and lightness of use. Much easier to switch light lenses from the pocket than bigger, heavier lenses from the bag.

You should try the TTArtisans 50mm 1.2 Its £119 has character and if you are having to manually focus with the 56mm then similar experience except half the size. I have owned the 56mm and it is wonderful but expensive for the limited use I was giving it. Its all subjective but I love the images from both these lenses and one or other is always on my X-T2 or X-Pro1.

Quality, in-stride post, Eren! Nailed the vid genre content structure/template. Have the 50mm F2 and appreciate the ergonomics and performance. Suggest further APD explanation in future vid - perhaps w/compare & contrast images (same shots with and without APD of same focal lengths). My hunch is that the APD ref went over heads of most viewers (including mine). Cheers!
@erenjam
@erenjam 3 года назад
Big Thanks Paul 🙌🏻, on the APD, I'm not too clued up on it myself but from talking to someone at Fujifilm they told me you'll get smoother bokeh and a little better contrast too. However you lose a bit of light and the Phase detect AF. Bit of a niche lens but I'll try rent one in to test out. Have a great week 🙏🏼

Hello Eren, I am revisiting this video cuz I found a deal on older 56mm f/1.2 which makes the price gap much closer (about 100 usd). I have hard time deciding which one might suit me better. I take 90% street photography, 10% portraits. I am struggling on if I care more about the max aperture or the weather resistancy.

Eren...I just purchased the Preset Pack...Thank you for providing. Will you be doing any reviews on the Viltrox 23mm F.14? I really enjoy your content. I'm traveling to Ireland and Italy in September...Family Vacation with Friend and Family...Photography and video is secondary...However I ill definitely will carve out some me time. I m packing the Tamron 18-300 for general day walkabout lens. I have the kit 18-55. I was think of purchasing the 35 and 50mm F/2 for night shooting. What do you think of just getting say a viltrox 23mm or 35mm F/1/4 instead for nights or should I just stick with the fuji f/2? Im so tossed with the decision.

That’s my problem with Fuji, you can always make the case for both options... all is designed to be not sufficient enough ... I own the 56 but the AF is rubbish and it is not WR ... the 50/f2 has a great AF and WR but it is just an ok-portrait lens ... I’d love to have the x-pro2 but the display does not tilt and the x-pro3 is even worst ... thus I picked the x-t2 instead of the x-pro2 ... I owned the 35/f2 but sold it, because of its limited portrait capabilities... now I own the viltrox 33 because it is as fast as the 35/1.4 with much better AF ... however thanks for the video
@erenjam
@erenjam 3 года назад
Yh its a tough one, there is no one perfect lens. Problem is, in order for the lens to be faster it normally needs to be bigger, which makes AF harder. Pretty much why the 50mm f1 is a giant :D.
@Fuzzbrause

@@erenjam the thing that bothers me is as following: you can’t choose between a cheaper and more expensive version, where the more expensive version is clearly better. If you want to cover all your requirements you have to buy both things ... but anyway I love shooting Fujifilm

Cool Channel Eren, great contents! I still own the X-Pro1. I might go for the Fujicrons, as they give the old lady a right kick up the AF butt ☺️. I do like the 35/1.4 and 18/2 I own, but paired with the XP1 they are slow and noisy. I value compactness and weight as much as image quality. I am just a hobbyist, and think the f2 are great for everyday, travelling and documenting family life etc . Also if I might upgrade body going fwd might as well have the weather sealed lenses 😉 Cheers from Switzerland, stay safe! Thumbs up and subscribed 💪🏻

@@erenjam I like it, got it for half nothing. I don‘t wan‘t to collect lenses, just a few for everyday, nice and portable. So I thought keeping the 18/2, get the 35/2 and 50/2. not sure that set makes sense 🤔. I only start to get more serious. Also have my X100T I really like. Been my everyday companion since bought new in 2014. So there is the 23/2 covered. I bought the XP1 for 200.- basically in mint condition to try out the body and a few lenses.without spending a fortune....I do like the body very much and think going fwd I will use it more often. So the f2 lenses would make it a good combo I think. Maybe even the trio 23/35/50.
