Chris, Fuji owes you a lot man. I know I'm not the only one that's shaken off the idea of tossing my gear and only changed my mind because of how simple and helpful your tutorials are. Stay blessed and keep up the good work.
You can't imagine how grateful I am for this explanation Chris. My Godox V860II menu drives me crazy every time I need to change the configuration. Thanks a lot!!!
I think it's worth adding that when you are using one of the Fuji triggers, it does not matter what camera protocol the flash has. E.g., you can use a TT-685 N (Nikon) as a slave (TTL and any of the other modes) with the Fuji trigger. Of course, the TT-685 N will not work TTL if mounted on the Fuji's hot shoe. Once you get the hang of these Godox lights, they are impressively versatile.
This is also very useful "in reverse" i.e. you can be shooting Fuji with trigger, and your buddy can use Nikon with a Godox N trigger to fire the same flashes.
Chris, Thank you, exactly what was needed. As primarily a landscape photographer, I dont use flash often. Its Christmas , I need the flash for family pics this morning, and its probably 9 months since I used them last. Tried but failed miserably to remember how it was done. Sat through this, and wham, got them working again in 2 mins flat. Same config as you have here as well. Thank You, and Merry Christmas from the UK.
I’ve been taking pictures for many year, starting with B/W film and doing all my editing in a real darkroom.. I’ve had Nikon DSLR’s but are just getting in to Fuji and I’m really enjoying your videos. Thanks for all your great content
Thank you, I have had the Godox V1 and trigger for more than 3 years but I rarely use it because the settings are difficult to understand and there are rarely any tutorials specifically for Fuji. I wish you all the best.
I am transitioning from Sony system to Fuji and finding this channel has taken my shooting pleasure with my X-T3 to new level. The menu settings are no longer a mystery.
Thank you for this. My godox flashes were in the closet for the last year. I pulled them out today and couldn’t remember how to work anything and the buttons make no sense. Thanks for taking the time to do this video.
Was beating my head against the wall to get Flash to work off camera until I realized "Slave" is now "RX" on the trigger units. Love your videos Chris, I've learned a lot and your enthusiasm makes them so enjoyable. Thanks so much.
A thing I learned with at least my Fuji! If you are still having trouble connecting the flash to your Fuji try changing the electrical shutter to mechanical. That did the trick for me.
As flash menus go, Godox's are actually not the worst, but they're still mostly inscrutable. And when you're trying to get stuff done (or worse, you're on a shoot) and nothing seems to work and you can't figure out the damn menus, oh man. I'm bookmarking this video as a "must watch" refresher before any assignment where I might need multiple or off-camera flash. Chris, you're a godsend.
Chris, this is the best video I have seen on how to set Godox flashes and make them seamlessly work on a Fuji X camera. You have solved a big problem I had. Now that I have all it need, it's become second nature. Thank you for sharing this important information. Godox owes you for this one.
Hey there! I’m so sorry for the delay in seeing this… I get so behind lately in managing my YT account and am trying to get help. But seriously, thank you so much for your kind donation!! This means a lot to me and really helps out the channel!!! You ROCK!!! Thanks again and all the best to you!!!
Dear Pal, I don't know your actual name, thus I hope I can call you 'Pal'. I've been following your channel for a long time now, and I came to understand that you've been having some troubles with finding motivation or ways for your channel. I really felt that I needed you to know: we appreciate everything you do! Absolutely the work, the information, the visual understandable guides, your stories of how you come to find your ways with fujifilm and such: you are incredible! ❤ And that's why I have been following you as a member of this channel. I hope you find your ease and passion on this platform. I know for myself as well, that this is in credibly difficult: technology can sometimes feel restrictive to what we desire to accomplish and it can be so frustrating at times. Don't feel pressured by us, do what your heart and soul knows and I'm sure we will find a way to follow you either way. Thank you for reading! Have a great day! x
Chris you ARE a Godsent. Of all the video tutorials this video tutorial has help and is much needed. My head was spinning and I felt defeated on trying to learn the Godox TT 685f and to sync my Godox TT350f. You have really helped, you should have your own 1.800 hot line. You're more helpful then 411 & 911
WARNING... To my utter frustration, my new Godox V860IIF did not work with my X-T4. In the FLASH FUNCTION SETTING SCREEN a disturbing "Flash off" sign appeared. After many tries, and after thinking I had a defective camera or a defective flash, I tried changing the ELECTRONIC SHUTTER to MECHANICAL SHUTTER. It worked! So... no electronic shutter with the flash! And looking forward for more great videos! Thank you!
First time ever that I am the first to comment 🙂 All I can say is keep up the good work, it’s a great channel that you are building. Thanks for all the effort you put in 🙂
I have just brought my very first Gadox speed flash and more videos on how to use it would be very helpful, especially for portraits. Thank you for everything you do.
I have the Godox system that include two ad200 pro units with a few t685 mark 2s and the pro trigger. Beautiful system. No issues setting it up ever. Once you get used to the menus and functions AND have an understanding of how to use wireless flashes in general it works flawlessly. TTL works well but it truly shines in manual flash mode. I don’t mind using manual because once you have it dialed in as long as your distance from subject, iso or aperture don’t change you can really fine tune the ambient light using shutter speed and get consistent flash fires each time.
Haha! Im not alone. Seriously it’s fairly straight forward after a few gigs. I use the slaves for my wedding receptions usually two in opposing corners. But I found TTL very hit and miss, best to set your iso and Aperture on a constant setting and put the slaves in Manual for example im usually around 1/16 power depends how far the lights are, also the further you can put your lights to the subject area for receptions that will be the dance floor, the more even the exposure across that area due to the inverse square law. The closer you put the speedlights to the scene you start getting uneven exposures depending where the subject is positioned on the dance floor. The other thing that works best for me is not use a remote trigger best to use a speedlight as the master because this is also gives you another light source which is great as a fill light. As i move around the dance floor (my clients usually give me a roaming license) the fill light on your camera helps reduce your the harsh shadows the off camera speed lights can cause, also note you can have your camera speedlight (the master) on TTL i usually put it on about minus -2 stops whilst the slaves are on a Manual setting. Great how you can mix and match different modes on each individual speedlight. 😀
Thanks so much - I had reached the point of doubting my sanity. The manual is completely useless, and most tutorials start assuming all you need to do is select the channel. X-T1 is now working with wireless, though I've not yet got the X-H1 to work (but then many other things like remote wireless just don't work with my X-H1, and I don't think it will even make a particularly good door stop).
Flash is an area that I have always veered away from due to an inherent fear of what appeared to be a specialty language. Made the plunge about 6 months back with a 685 and an AD200 Pro linked with a 2T and am now fully immersed. The Godox system coupled with Fuji is fantastic particularly during these restrictive times. Hope you do more vids where you dive in even more with focus on modifiers, etc. Thanks for all of your vids.
Brilliant Chris, I was about to throw my flash and trigger out the window even after reading both instruction manuals. Your video saved me. Looking forward to your capture one beginner videos.
I love my Godox units too... I started with the X-T1 remote but went to the XPro for ease of use... I now own 2 685's and 1 350 and a transmitter for less money than what I paid for Fuji's lame E-XF500... and that transmitter is much easier to use than a Godox flash on a hot shoe too... so I have never experienced the frustration of the convoluted menu structure :-)
Thank you so much for sharing useful day to day information about cameras! Most people on RU-vid just focus on new gear. This is far more practical and I always learn something new!
Thanks so much for this video (and all your others). I am just getting into using an off-camera flash and trying to find a solution. This video was perfect. You are the Fujifilm guru, Chris.
Hi Chris, For many reason, including your advice, I got rid of my other flashes and got the Godox TT600 and really liked it from the start. Then, I got the TT350 for use with my Fuji X100v. Along the way I picked up a Bolt battery pack for the TT600. And my flash equipment is complete with the purchase of the XProF trigger. So, I use the TT350 on camera on all my Fuji cameras and sometimes off camera. I use the TT600 on my X-T3 and off camera for the other camera. I prefer manual flash so the trigger is great. It has the button where you take a photo in TTL, push the button and it converts to manual. I find I have to bump it up a step or two. No big deal.
@@mezomoza7 The TT350. I used it with NiMH batteries and get better recycling. I did not go for the V350 with a NiMH battery because the TT swivels 460 and the V 270. Other than that they are the same. I hope I've helped you.
I have very little experience of flash photography but I have been thinking for some time that I should get into it, so this has been very helpful and informative, thank you
You are the best tutor for Fuji handling to me Sir......I use speed lights most for studio works....Please make a video with Godox SK400 and Godox AD200 pro sync with Xpro Triggers
More people should watch your videos, you are really helpful and fun! non clickbait or bs, just being you, teaching and sharing your experiences, I love that! I still can't decide if go with continuous light or one of those flashes as first light, but you definitely helped me A LOT!!
Just when I thought of giving up you come with exactly what information I need. Really it’s scary ,but in a good way. So much value in your content can’t thank you enough. You keep me in the game and not intimidated with all this knowledge to use my equipment.🙏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I just got the Flashpoint version (Adorama) of this 685f and R2 Pro II. LOVE them. I just added batteries and turned them on and they worked perfectly. Pal, can you do a HSS vid outside with a model? I am just starting to try that. (with softbox) Thanks, Buddy. Keep up the good work.
Me & many has saying the same. Godox TT685 auto reset its setting back to TTL while on manual mode. Example, you set your TT685 to manual (both flash & camera sets as manual flash) after few clicks you will here a zoom sound from the flash and that happen when the flash reset itself to TTL mode. Yes you can change it back to manual but the issue here is it will change back to TTL after few clicks again. This issue happen when its mounted on top of the camera, and not happening if use off camera with a trigger
Great video, first time commenter! Very much looking forward to a series on godox flashes. I have the the tt685 and x1t transmitter and although it works, I'm not sure what all the settings mean and could use some of your easy tutorials! Thanks for all your hard work, it's invaluable!
I remembered you'd done this video when I needed to use my wireless transmitter and flash today. Even if Ive said it before thanks for this one Chris its definitely my go to, how to, for getting set up quickly
Love this! I had that curled cord and couldn't get it to work - I never thought to turn the flash around for the fix. Definitely create the flash series - PLEASE!!!!
Great video. And in the process of applying this information to my Fuji camera, I found out I can also use my Godox Sony flashes with Fuji as long as I use off camera with the Godox XPro trigger for Fuji as the controller on the Fuji camera. COOL!!!
I'm planning on getting the 685 and Xpro next week so this video was very timely. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into explaining this. And yes, more videos on speedlights. Well, if you can tolerate the learning curve :-)
Great video helped my friend get started with Godox flash. A video giving details about using say 2 guns and various flash strength would be very useful.
The only thing frustrating with the Fuji system is overriding TTL flash mode and getting it to operate in manual (M) mode. I have the TT685 flash (Canon) and with the X1T-F trigger, but my X-T30 cannot be set to M for flash. It always goes to TTL mode. Sometimes I prefer the M mode. However, if the same TT685C flash is put on the camera hotshoe, then it will switch to M as the flash unit is configured for Canon. So it seems there is something about the Fuji FW that does not allow users to bypass TTL if it detects a TTL-compatible trigger. Have you ever encountered this situation?
This is going to my "fundaments" video list, I own that little 350 flash, but still trying to figure out how to use it properly. Thanks a lot for this guide!!
Chris, today I will call you Mr.LEE. Why? Because I owe you a bundle. I have 2 TT685 and X Pro whenever I looked the manual I (#$#@!$#^$%$#). I put the trio away and used other units I have - AND THAN - notification came in and you sowed up with this video. This is the very first video and only one I could find (simple to the point with user in mind) that ended my "struggle". I was able to put those 3 together in less than 1 min (that includes loading the batteries in all 3 units lol). Another gem in the toolbox. Thank You Mr.LEE. 11:27 JUST DO IT, PLEASE?
I understand why you dislike the X2T, but for me, as wedding photographer, it has nice advantage: you can stack a flash on top of it, so you can have simultaneously an on-camera flash and some other(s) triggering wirelessly. Keep up the good work, thank you for your nice tutorial!
Great video !! i would like to know if there is a huge difference between the Godox TT685f and the new Fujifilm flash EF-60 made by Nissin. I know it is more expensive, but it is smaller and is it more versatile ? Love your videos and helpfull tips.
Thank you. Your video helped me a lot. I own xt2, godox 860ii and xpro. Please do the full tutorial. Godox menu is crap. Half of times my flash does not fire. I consider to switch to westcott fj80 for simplicity. Thank you man
I would like to use the TT685 off camera with the XPro. In order to do this, it will require the flash to have the settings different from those on the remote. Never-the-less, I would like the ability to control the flash remotely. For example, change either the power of the flash or the aperture indicated on the flash using the remote. Actually, any additional information regarding these Godox products would be appreciated. I found little information on the Internet and what I found is not particularly impressive. I'm sure your effort would be appreciated by MANY! Thanks. Keep up the good work.
This is just what I was looking for. I think I finally understand this set up. The video and info is great. I am using a TT350 on my X-S10 as the master and a TT685 off camera as the slave. Every thing works wonderfully including being able to change the slave output etc. Everything except one critical point. When shooting with everything in manual mode there is a LOT of shutter lag. This doesn't happen with either unit alone on the camera. It wouldn't ordinarily be a problem but the reason I wanted this setup is to shoot my 1 1/2 year old great grandson. By the time the exposure is complete, he is in another state! HELP!
Hi Chris, this is a fantastic video and very useful. I have recently switched from Sony to Fujifilm, and according to your instructions, I just have to switch to the Godox Xpro F to get my Godox V860II for Sony working again. I hope this reading is correct. It would be great I you would have the time for answering. Thanks in advanced.
Wow, I can’t imagine how much time you spent doing this GREAT tutorial! Thanks for posting. Need input, what’s your suggestion for doing a print that is over 30”? RSW
Literally I spent most of the morning looking for an appropriate communicator for my godox flash.. I ended up purchasing the X1TF but now I see your example of the XPROF and I'm dying. lol All good. But THANK YOU for this tutorial! So simple and helpful! I definitely feel more confident in my off camera flash set up!
Hi Christina... no worries, the X1TF can definitely get the job done. It's better than using flash to flash connection and should be ok w/ up to 4 flashes. Cheers!
