I grabbed a 50s ii on eBay in August for $2300 (like new condition). I absolutely love it. Also got the 110, 80, and the 55. The 110 is sublime for portraits. My all time fave lens. I like your style of editing. Very clean and polished.
The jump from crop to a GFX sensor is just huge. From full frame to the GFX, not so much. I view them as the full frame as a 6x4 crop especially nice for horizontal photos while the GFX as a 4x3 nice for portrait orientation. Crop to full frame is a bigger jump too. Not just in terms of depth but also on file fidelity. I use all three formats regularly on events (Fuji X-Series, Nikon Z, Fuji GFX). Now, we're transitioning to mainly using Nikon Z bodies and a GFX for most of the wedding photography and the Fujifilm X-Series for video. The GFX 50mp sensors and the Nikon Z sensors are surprisingly very close in terms of raw color. Just a little WB adjustment.
Which Z bodies do you use? I mainly use a z8/z9 pair, with Fuji X (xs-20) for more weight sensitive shoots. The GFX-100s has intrigued me, but not enough to overcome concerns about the old computational platform and lens size. Will be very interesting to see if the 100s successor includes the platform improvements from the 100 II. Love competition and choices.
I agree that the transition from a FF to the GFX isn't going to be a big jump compared coming from a crop sensor. I never toyed the idea of going from Crop to FF because I don't see a big difference that would justify it for me and the work I do. It was a little easier to jump to a GFX only because the price for the 50sii at the time I was cheap, I couldn't really say no to that!
Interesting and helpful video. There has been an itch, a persistent one, for me to sell some kit and make the jump into the glorious world of the GFX 50SII. However, I'm at odds with myself over the necessary spontaneity. I once abandoned 35mm film gear for a Pentax 645nII, and later a mamiya 645 with a fast f1.9 lens. It was the fearlessness of still being young that gave me the capacity to do it. Not at all sure today. My Canon R6 is still new and then there is the Sony A7RIII that will be difficult to part with--both sacrifices would be necessary. But this video exemplifies determination--so it definitely helps.
The AF is NOT super slow! I wish you wouldn’t say this. I shoot in AFS only, as I will not use face detect or AFC with any camera…even a Sony A7RV… The 50Sii in AFS is really good, and precise. Of course it’s not up to Sony or Canon level…but this is a Medium Format remember, the lenses are larger and the sensor they cover is massive.
It's slow in comparison to the GFX100S and the GFX100II. It doesn't have phase detection as the other two cameras. I I did mention the fact that it's a medium format camera, so I would not expect quick AF with AFC compared to Crop and full frame sensors. As I also mentioned I would only stick to AFS! My experience with using the camera for weddings and moving subjects - which is proven to be not as reliable as the other formats for those specific situations. But it's amazing for landscape, street photography, static portraits (in studio etc). Aside from that, I think we're on the same page.
To answer 4:00, the GFX 50S II body reuses the GFX 100S body, they just swapped out the sensor. And Fujifilm tried to make the 100S more of a hybrid body with the addition of 4K and FLOG.
Hey! Yes I know both of them uses the same body as whatever specs came with the 100s. They have could have easily just removed the photo/video toggle button from the 50sii IMO!
@@lee.ronin.photography that would cost more money in modifying the body either via a separate manufacturing line or workers. Blame Sony, 😆; they reuse bodies, lcd screens, etc across multiple lines and generations. Like the rear LCD screen and some of the buttons they use have barely been upgraded in generations.
@@lee.ronin.photographyno €2000 euro is very expensive in Romania I’d say….in Poland you are looking at 15,500zl (€3500 euros) where the median salary is half of that a month….anyway love your channel Lee ❤ is there a way I could reach out to you privately and ask you a few question?
