I hope I'll make a video one day (hopefully soon) with a title like this "Fujifilm autofocus is fixed! It works nice" You can complain to fuji to give us the 1.03 AF back + the newest features , red bar , touch track , sounds , and etc. Only with noise they will hear us.
They’ll be like, “Guy you just have to use this simple workaround and manual focus at all times even if your camera is videoing on a gimbal, you guys just have no skill” but then also talk about how there are no issues with eye autofocus, lol
That's always been true, no matter how exciting the updates. Honestly, those that are most likely to update are those that need to make a dozen videos praising or damning the update. For many years now, end users are new beta testers. And those moaning the most should really know better - not to excuse Fuji's approach to pre-release testing, but that is the reality. And yes guilty as charged, I'm on the latest x-t5 FW. The integration of updates within the app certainly encourages earlier adoption. More beta testers!
@@zenstoodiIt's not 2010 anymore. Some testing will be done beforehand, but not extensively when there are thousands of users who will do it for free. You used to be able to sign up for beta testing programmes to access the latest updates, but that's not so common now. No need. This isn't like Sonos updating it's app and bricking functionality with no one having a choice. This is quite literally people rushing out to voluntarily change a perfectly functioning FW version. I'm glad such people exist for the same time I never volunteered to be a beta tester back in the day.
I think it's crucial for us to come together and actively write to Fujifilm, demanding a response and a solution. When contacting Fujifilm, please include a detailed description of the problem, mentioning how the autofocus point displayed on the screen does not match the actual focus point, and how the focus is unstable and unreliable. Emphasize that this issue makes the camera practically unusable for professional work, and request a confirmation that they are working on a fix.
Me three. I’ve got an OM-1.2 running alongside my X-H2, I’m not retired and don’t ‘bird’, but I can’t get past the fact their AF is way better. Face detect does what it says, and you can lock onto the eye you select and it will then follow that one, regardless of how many others there are in the frame. I also discovered just last night how that works even in a dark room, when my X-H2 couldn’t even focus on a single static point in AF-S. Sorry Fuji. It’s been fun, but you might be going soon.
Again, as a Fujifilm user, thanks for trying to change things for the better. Since they changed management i haven't been able to appreciate anything they did recently
I want Fujifilm to succeed, but they have lost sight of what's important in the last couple of years. Investing R&D in completely pointless things like a GFX wildlife lens, 2 medium format camera releases back to back that make no sense, not updating the highly requested X lenses. If they genuinely want to make a positive impact, their top priorities need to be as follows - 1. Fix Autofocus 2. Update X-mount lens line-up with faster motors that can keep up with improved AF 3. Innovate with sensor technology to improve low light sensitivity and S-N-R
Is anyone buying the 16-50? F 4.8? Maybe for birds its okey... A non sense lens. Only to fix 40mp. Xt50? Xs20? X100vi? Arent they an xt5? I only see the same camera. Blurryfilm, fix your Focus...
I disagree. New kit lens XF 16-50/2.8-4.8 is ideal for holidays, or as a ultra light zoom for landscapes. It's very small, very light, do not extend while zooming, has WR and LM. Good to very good overall IQ. And it will cost 400$ bundled as a kit with camera. I mean, what's the problem here?
They should also release true parafocal lenses if they think seriously about filmmakers. Fix this wired exposure change when zooming etc… on paper X-H2S is dream filmmaker camera but in practice maybe for only manual focus cinema lenses and without IBIS because it also sucks when panning.
The only good news is that we know mechanically and physically the camera is capable based on what we see on the earlier firmware. The problem is, can Fuji utilize the hardware like the first firmware, or even better?
They installed AI autofocus tracking but instead of the same kind as the one found in Sony and Canon, they went with the budget retarded step brother. I stand by this statement.
Another great video highlighting the piss-poor state of Fuji AF on their newest cameras with X-Trans 5... Roman Fox recently put out a video of the X100VI and his "first impressions", to which I called him out on as an owner of an X100VI on FW 1.10 and having duplicated your results with that camera as well, and of course he came back with a defensive response and other Fuji fanboy's came to object to my statement and defended the camera, using the "but this is a different use case and so it's fine"... Fuck me, it's not fine, especially not for the money Fuji sells these things for! Keep up the fight exposing these idiots and shining a light on Fuji, they won't change their ways until they start feeling it financially...
@@edvard2942 Yeah I don't even bother with his "reviews" anymore, he doesn't know what he's talking about... I hear ANYONE claim Fuji AF is "on par with competition" I tune out right away, though I do wish that statement was actually true :(
Eddy, it's probably because he's videos are 100% focused on street photography. And as You know, street photography is easiest photo genre, super popular among Fujifilm users - basically because it requires almost zero skill or knowledge to take photo of any crap You find when hanging around the streets :)
Wow, Fujifan boys, look at this, even fot CineDailies. Nobody is gonna say to CineDailies he is noob and user error??? My gosh... Blurryfilm... Focus on fix your Focus...
@@jcar4522 haha yeah i’ll eventually share my experience with the AF and share some solutions. Right I have no time in-between commercials using the xh2s. I do use AF natively for jobs, just youtube. 80% of the time I use manual lenses. But Fuji needs to address this sooner than later.
I was wondering if he did go through all the updates on the same day? You can see the camera does not move when he is walking towards the camera and back with the balcony/window behind.
@@matango1979 and considering the fact that all the updates are available on the website right now, the whole video could have been recorded in less than a day
In a way this is good news. We can at least see first hand where the problems started and know that 1.03 seemed to give the best AF for video (at least). It looks like 6.00 was the icing on the cake where a new problem emerged as well as just amplifying all the previous f/w iterations. Whilst I am fairly content to run two of my XH2S's on 5.03, I do not enjoy the thought that I could be experiencing BETTER AF on an earlier f/w.
Yep, completely agree. Did a video focus comparison of my own between the A7iv and Fuji X-S20 and watching the video side by side the A7iv is considerably better, TBF it is double the cost but the A6700 I had for awhile was even a bit better than the A7iv and that is a comparable camera to the X-S20. Seriously Fuji needs to fire whoever is in charge of the autofocus software and get a whole new team, what they have is not working and as you show it's getting worse.
I think Fujifilm already did it. Fuji fired strong tech.team and hired cheapest engineers as they can only found. And this team just broke AF with FW as we all can see now.
appreciate the video bro... planning to buy a FUJI XH2S for fuji color science .. but am really confused now that they ruining autofocus more and more .
Considering ditching Fuji after 10 years, this firmware debacle is ridiculous, they happy to take our money then put out crap to ruin what was an amazing camera when it 1st arrived. Maybe lumix s5ll which from what I see is continual improvements in its firmware
No kidding. This is why I sold all my Fuji gears. Fuji’s video capability sucks, not even a commercial level. Exposure stepping is a bonus. Their lenses all suck as well in terms of steady exposure.
It was never mentioned that the AI was smart or had high intelligence. Maybe the AI they installed was dropped in the head as a baby? Or its computer mother was smoking crack while pregnant. I don’t judge. Fujifilm should be given a trophy for helping the disabled/handicapped community. I am signing a petition to have fujifilm cameras as the preferred camera for special olympics.
So I just watched a few videos of your channel and videos you mentioned. I think people say you might not be trustworthy as you only have a few videos and you do not mention all settings used so I wanted to research a bit more. But now that you did this comparison, I am baffled honestly. This is not looking good for Fuji, thanks for showcasing this! I also hope they fix this really soon... I saw people claim the X-S20 has improved a lot though in the 6.0 firmware, could you test this? Also, which AF mode did you use for this test, Multi or area? I can clearly see it got worse, but still I would like to know which mode this was? Did you manage to downgrade the firmware or did you just get another one and how so? I am not sure how you mean they "added AI", did the H2S not have subject detection on release (I seriously don't know, please explain)?
you are the only person who actually know how to test autofocus, putting it to the hardwork is the only way to thoroughly know how good the autofocus of the camera is.
They really should just make all the software available to download from their site and allow users to downgrade. Let the user decide which works best for them.
My patience is wearing out with fuji. I bought the xh2s because i thought it was supposed to be their best/fastest auto focusing model, not just in photo but in video too. Ive been with them long enough that i didnt expect it to be as good as the latest sony cameras. But its ridiculous that the only reliable and somehwat consistent af mode is afs. Im back to my dslr days using focus recompose method. Lately its getting harder and harder justifying to myself why i stick with fuji. Yes i love the lenses, the colors and many other things, but im getting tired of thinking i got the shot becasue i got the green light confirmation, just to get home and see an unacceptable percentag3 of photots either backfocused or frontfocused. This has been an issue for a long time. Sadly, i think it may be time for me to let go of the xh2s. If i can only shoot in AFS, I misght as well just stick with my old xh1.
Fuji pushing me to change my gears to Sony or Canon. If I cannot find your video to fix and downgrade the firmware for a temporary solution, I will sell all the fuji gear. Thanks so much.
What I learned from this video is that your test methodology needs to be improved a lot. You have to test firmware in the same environment with and without back lit subject to make proper conclusion.
Imagine Sony, Canon or Nikon having this kinda issue with their current flagship camera. Let's face it: Fujifilm cameras are great for stills of shooting the back of a vintage car or basketball hoops. Oh yea, and the colors are pretty. Once you hit the point where quality is a requirement, you better ditch those cameras immediately.
For the “AI needs internet” part: its actually don’t. When you use chat got or genAI features in adobe, your software does not include any “AI” models, it just acts like a mailman sending your data to the server and receiving the result, thats why you need internet. Its not possible for camera to connect to the internet and autofocus in the real time because it will be very laggy, so the “AI” features need to be implement right on the camera. For the file size part: “AI” is just the buzz word for the mass, for camera I’m pretty sure its just deep learning. For short, deep learning is just neural network with many layers, the configuration of the deep neural network is just parameters for each layer. Therefore the firmware carrying the deep neural network configuration can be very light, and yes they can update the “AI” by updating the deep learning model configuration as long as it does not break the hardware limit. Also to answer to the same file size part, I just guess maybe the firmware is a binary or hex file with limited maximum size, the actual firmware itself might be less than 110MB and the rest will be fill with 0 or 0xFF, just like when you burn a CD, it will have the same size of ~700MB no matter of your content. I’m no expert on this, just guessing. For the camera to focus, the “AI” subject recognition is just for telling the camera where to focus. Its might be the focusing is broken by itself. You can test the single point af-c to figure out where does the problem came from. If the single point af-c works fine then its the “AI” fault.
I agree, Maybe I am wrong too, but on firmware 3.0 they said that they've added "AI subject recognition" deep learning, but I didnt see any difference between 1-2 and 3. Only the af was a little worse.
Its normal for a “AI” model update without any improvement or getting worse irl 😂 maybe they are under the time pressure and release trash products, they need more robust testing and validation process. But if its just the “AI” subject recognition part fault then its still ok because theoretically they can improve it, if its the autofocus mechanism is broken by itself then there is almost no way to improve, we then need new camera or maybe new mount.
Anybody knows where We can report this issue? I made my own test... My XH2s works little better than your on v6.0 but its far away to result from v1.03.
did you had the false green boxes on any previous FW? They truly went from being acceptable for slight video work to absolutely not usable even for talking head stuff. will look forward to the Stills video
Sadly not possible... You have to send It to Blurryfilm and they downgrade themselves the camera to the 1.03 Anyway, message Fuji advicing you have a problem, an huge one, with AF
Thank you for making these videos. The core Fujifilm users will take anything they make as face value and will not accept criticism. Maybe Fujifilm executives aren't even aware of the issues the development team is making. That is what I hope, at least.
Thank you for the excellent work you've done ! Personally I'm just a hobbyist who use the video functions very little and the autofocus on my XH2 is suitable for my "photo only" use, but I'd really like Fuji to take these requests for improvement into account ! I wanted to repost your video on the fuji subreddit but my publication was censored :)
Prepare for the squad demanding you must have at least 13 camera models with each firmware, repeat the test at least 83 times, write the result in an Excell sheet, create graphs. Otherwise your tests are invalid! Sorry!!😂
The best thing the folks @Fujifilm can do right now is bringing out a public statement and let us all know if they're actually working on this huge problem or not. This update is another joke and and I do consider it as a serious insult to all their loyal users.
@@jcar4522 I tried Sony, but everything I shot with it looked like a Breaking Bad Mexico scene. Can colors be fixed in post - yeah. Do I want to deal with that for hundreds of photos? No.
@@hanns1401 Dont have that problem with sonys friend (talking about video). In fact, the luts i use with fuji seems to match better with sony footage (and they are supossed to be made for fuji). No yellow, green or red, they are okey
ru-vid.comnB_1Ed4JfKw?si=-jJzdgKHhNc7V4IC, i hate that I have a Job on the 29th, and I'm out here praying that FujiFilm get's their ish together in time... Unbelievably frustrating
You know what’s weird.. X-H1 with the latest firmware, a camera from 2018, has a much better AF performance than X-H2S with the latest firmware. Try it.
@@Princeton_Jamesnow you guys have something to debate. Settings and firmware version. Make another video and show the world how bad Fuji AF. We need a fix for this mediocrity
This is BAD! As in "worse than M43 bad!" Such a disappointment, having left the XT4 for this aberration. If Fuji doesn't change this, I will! Maybe back to Nikon...
I think, that AF in 6.01 FW is not a failure, but AF in 1.03 is a failure. Engineers make "mistake" in v1.03 and create AF as it must be from tech point ov view, but it's broke Fuji marketing and magement ideas to sell infinitely hope about AF. So some engineers fired and "problem" with Af in 1.03 was fixed back at latest FW. So now, Fuji Af wark as it must according to marketing strategy. And this mistake with AF never happens again, - Fuji promise!!
U said it in one of ur latest Vids: U hate Fuji to using other brands if u want a good AF performance. and its so sad, because thier "Enemys" are not sleeping. Sony a7V is near the town und will catch a lot of customer from fuji if they want a hybrid which is kinda capable of shooting som fast things (not that good like a a9iii) but still more usable than the xh2s. And yeah at the beginning of my xh2s journey i would have said that the AF of the H2s is kinda competitive with the canon r6 (i used both xh2s and r6) . but now... no chance.
Just tried shooting a landscape today and the stupid thing hunted and confirmed even though it was completely out of focus. Its all AF not just eye AF.
@@edvard2942 Thanks, after posting that I found a 2y old video of SONY camera, AF worked flawless exactly like you said, I am afraid Fujifilm will dump us and only get AF for the next camera, X-H3/X-H3S/X-T6, companies are too greedy
IMHO I think on this one you have it wrong, 6.01 is for vlogging mode , running back and forth towards the camera is not what was fixed , maybe putting the camera in your hand and facing the lens and walking around with your arm out stretch work. My comment does not reflect the current situation with face and eye tracking which is unacceptable and hope to be fixed asap.
I switched to Sony and now I'm happy. It's not worth it this day-and-age to deal with companies that can't even acknowledge the issue. "Fuji colors" be damned.
Looking forward to the stills video. I don’t shoot video myself but my X-H2 with firmware v4 exhibits some really strange behaviour. Just last night I was taking a picture of my son. Well lit, wasn’t moving, 16-55 red badge (one of their best, apparently) at 50mm f4 (so was giving the AF a chance by not shooting wide open). He’s looking at me. The camera can’t detect either eye so frames his face. It’s OK, I still got the shot. Then he turned round so the back of his head was facing me, and the camera immediately locked on to one of his ears as if it was an eye. WTF?! 😂
The good thing is, the tech is there, and one good firmware release will make the xh2s amazing! The bad thing is, that it seems a good firmware isn’t in their ability it seems.. I still love the camera, and I am still happy I switched to it, but if they don’t get their shit together, they will be in trouble lol!
Thank's for doing this work for all of us!! I don't remember having had unsharp images. I am using a GFX since two years and I am afraid of getting jobs done. I think, I used all rands and sensor sizes, but I became difficult, especially when it comes to autofocus, full magnification (manual lenses) and wrongly placed menues. Feels like the partner you love, but doesn't like you.. in old times, cameras were finished. Now we get unfinished Christmas presents. Looks like, they have agreements who is allowed to improve what.. I think my Minolta 8000i (analog camera) was better :-) :-) :-) . I will test it and give you my results. Cheers and thank you again!
So I think that there didn't seem to be such problems with focusing on my camera before, but it was at the level of sensations. With each new firmware, I began to notice a deterioration in the stability of autofocus. As a result, it's 6.01 now - the autofocus in the video is just terrible!!!
Fuji is making more money than anybody base on this year’s report so far. They’re doing some things right but we’re doing something wrong. We keep buying their products so they don’t have this urgency to really nail tracking. Business as usual and we keep buying.
It's now clear that it's a bug in the latest update. In any case, Fujifilm makes good cameras. I assume in the next updates they will solve the problem, let's wait and see.
I have the xT3 and I feel like it does better than this. Thinking about upgrading for video and these videos over the past few weeks have made me want to change brands...
This is horrible! I use my xh2s almost every day for work and i can say that for the kind of stuff i do it always work fine, but knowing that the autofocus in getting worse time by time is getting me mad
I’ve had the camera since release and always thought it was pretty decent at the start and felt it was getting worse with each update but then thought “nar can’t be they definitely must be making it better” and convinced myself it was me just noticing it being bad more often rather than the camera, but this video perfectly shows what I had thought all along. It’s rubbish now, and I’ve been hopeful and patient since owning an xt3 since 2019 but my patience is running out fast. How did you revert back to the first version?
so, youtubers at launch weren't lying or anything, they just had the best firmware to date 🤣 Fujifilm, the only camera brand where you hope for a downgrade.
I hope Fujifilm will deal with this. Just did a test of my own - not as strict as yours and with Tracking +4 instead of Speed: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qJarOBwDotM.html In my test I found the 18mm F1.4 and the Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 to work best, but they are wide and 2.8 also doesn't have that much depth of field so...
Wide lenses work best because they are easier to focus , the motor moves very little inside the lens , also you dont see the pulsing and the hunting very well like on a "normal mid lens", But from your video I see the same things. Great job.
Thank you edvard for doing this. Point the issue its the only way to fix it. So guys, message Fuji, make noise and more noise. Thank you edvard, shoutout to you
I've taking a passing interest in this. The 6.01 as far as I've seen isn't the fix, it is for taking selfies. Fuji are saying July for the AF fix. Think I saw it on Fuji Rumors.
