How to connect the Fujifilm to Ronin SC gimbal for follow focus. Both the focus wheel (with latest firmware update) and the focus motor (using old method) are discussed.

For anyone who did all the updates but still cannot connect the camera with the Ronin, try putting the Usb C cable (that is shaped like L) in the Ronin and the other end in the camera.

Hey man thanks for video It has been very useful to me. but I have to ask you a question. I'm making documentaries, and I'm using Fuji film XT4. I am using the microphone and headphone output at the same time. You know XT 4 the headphone output is (type c) output, if I use it for focus motor, I won't be able to use headphones. Hello. I recently bought a DJI RS3 mini and own a Fujifilm X-H1. Will these easier method (with focus wheel and a cable) work in my situation as well, please? I only have a micro USB port on the camera. Will that be a problem or will it work the same as USB-C? Thanks a lot!

I have an XH1 and am desperately trying to get this to work. The Multi cam cable doesn’t fit and there’s no control with the Fuji specific cable. The ronin website said focus pull isn’t available with xt2, xt3, or xh1, but since it worked for you I thought it worth a try! Any advice? I have a Fuji lens and made sure it’s on tether auto. Thanks!

Has anyone tried this with the XT-4 .. my Xt 3 worked flawlessly with this, but for the love of god I cant make it work with the XT 4. gimbal firmware is up to date, still checking if the XT4 firmware is up to date, but I think its more a dji thing.. when I connect it, it actually works for the first few minutes, then it stops working and focus doesnt change.. on timelapse mode it say shutter cable disconnected, check connections but I see it connected properly.. restarting the TX4 makes it work again for 1 minute or so. same on motion track, timelapse autofocus

Was just about to order the cable and focus wheel, and then double checked my order, and its all included in my combo pro pack for SC. Is there a way to switch between using focus motor for zoom and using internal focus method on XF's?

I don't think so unfortunately. I'm think that it may be possible to setup a 3rd party manual focus wheel for the zoom, and use the DJI wheel for the focus. Probably would be more trouble than worth, since one hand HAS to hold the gimbal and two wheels would be overkill I'd think. I really wish that they would have a menu option to specify zoom or focus for the wheel. Maybe a firmware update -- but I wouldn't count on it anytime soon. Also: Definitely check the packages/kits that you see online. Some come with the cords and everything you need. Others don't. Also make sure you are looking at the SELLER's reputation. Just because it's on Amazon, doesn't always mean that Amazon is selling it of course...

Thanks Chris. Ironically I didn't see you made this video until today and so happens my Ronin-SC is getting delivered later. This gimbal was sketchy for some time with us Fuji shooters. Glad to see they worked it out.

Can I connect the camera to the gimbal to operate the focus puller without the gimbal powering the camera? What I'm looking for is that the gimbal battery lasts longer and does not wear out charging the camera, since from the camera I have more batteries, and from the gimbal I do not. Thanks!

With the gimbal focusing wheel, wouldn't you have to also set up your XT-4 to Button/Dial Settings > Focus Ring Operation > Linear ?

Hi, I’d like to buy a Ronin SC for my XT4. All doubts derive from this follow focus system, which is, as far as I understand, a system that allows you to manually control the focus. Now, the doubt is this: I read on the Ronin website, in the camera compatibility section, that “the camera is unable to auto focus in video recording mode”; what? if I don’t have the follow focus wheel the camera does not focus? In a nutshell, if I use a gimbal to record a video, is the camera capable to focus automatically? Apologize for the question that may seem stupid, but before spending 400 euros I’s like to know that. Thanks to anyone who wants to answer me.

Hello! Is any wide angle lens (12-14 mm) to work with Ronin SC follow focus without using motor? To work on X-T4. I tried to use Fujinon 16-55 2.8 this way and it works great!

Gimbals work with any lens. They stabilize the camera.

is there a reason when i plug the cable into the camera it hijacks the all the settings and doesn't allow me to focus? I have the usb-tether correct, but whenever I turn on the ronin it just messes up everything in my Fuji.

For video, better to focus manually and adjust for the scene you are trying to make. For vlogging, better to use electronic focus. This a general rule, there are exceptions fo course.

No, I’d keep it on. Depends also on the lens and what motion you are using in your shot.

Hi thanks for video. Help me please if you can. Start stop rec. Is it work in yourth? I have the latest updates x-t3 (3.21) and SC (1.5.0.40), set tethering auto, but it doesn't work. Capture photo doesn’t work. Only power up the camera. The multi usb-c cable was included. First turned on gimbal then xt3. And tried first xt3 then SC. Result is the same - only charging.

I solved the problem. The function began to work after I connected the cable by another end. Unfortunately this is my first USB type C device and I did not know that there was a difference.

I'd say Ronin SC. I have that and the Zhiyun Crane (not the weebil but it's similar) but do like the SC for Fuji.

Great stuff I mostly shoot stills but this information is invaluable ..I have an unusual request .. Could you do a comparison of Images from an old Full Frame Nikon D3/4 with the X-T2 or X-T3 . The reason I ask is because I'm learning the difference between having more megapixels doesn't always equate to a better image .. And Are the 12MP images from a D3 or 4 better than a Current iPhone ? Thanks for your indulgence.

I'd need a Nikon D3/4 which unfortunately I don't have. But I'd say for sure that it's less about megapixels and more about sensor size and better lenses. I'd say that just about any image from Nikon D3/4 would be better overall than a phone. A phone may have more megapixels, but I think that the background isolation (real, not in software) would not even come close.

10-24. I actually returned my 16-80. Corners too soft and the video focus wobble issue.
