Your tutorials really are the best in RU-vid. You just give us the details on how the camera functions and it helps me to be a better photographer. Thank you! - Geoff
thank you so much again. im constantly going back to this video for a reference on how to use some of the complicated settings. slowly but surely im getting it.
I just watched all your videos of the Fuji X-S10, and the innovation I love most about the camera does not really get a mention (I think): It's the ability to access a lot more menu settings with the custom modes on the PASM dial than in the custom settings of any of the other Fuji cameras I have. It's not quite as complete as in the Ricoh GR III for example, but it still means that instead of being just a JPEG variation tool as with the previous Fuji custom modes, you can use it now to adapt to different shooting situations. So I have mine set to shooting panoramas, portraits, sport and street, something I was not able to do before as I can now change the shutter, the focus mode etc. etc. I think this deserves a separate video, as it is an awesome new feature!:) Alas, I don't have an X-T4, so I don't know if that was added there, but it certainly wasn't in the X100V, and it is by far the best new change in the X-S10 in my book!
I just got this camera today with the 33mm normal lens and I'm already loving it. Your video taught me some stuff I had not figured out yet, thanks for that.
You are sooo cool, I want to grow older and still into techy stuff! Your partner seems to be supportive too ;) Got this X-S10 preordered, have yet to test out all features.
Seems like a small thing - and I do enjoy interacting with my viewers. I spent years producing TV shows for our educational broadcaster in Ontario and never had a conversation with a viewer.
Brilliant video, thanks for posting. Have been an avid fuji user for sometime now and the layout of my XT3 AND XH1 suit my needs throughout. As well as being diagnosed with ASD I also struggle with my short term memory, so having the ISO, shutterspeed, etc quick to hand really suits me. I would be lying if I said that I am not a little bit worried about the new layout and also dedicating different dials to suit my photography. With that said, and once I have mastered the controls, I am really looking forward to getting out there and putting it through its paces. Please feel free to do a video in the future to support my needs :) Once again, thank you.
Thanks for your kind words. If they suit your needs, I'd stay with the X-T3 and X-H1. Not sure what you mean by a video to support your needs - can you provide some guidance, or link to another video that does?
Your reviews have always been good but they just keep getting better. I don’t plan on getting this camera but there were a few tips I can use on my X-H1 & XT4. Thanks for posting this video Maarten.
I believe that you are using proper terminology describing the lens in use as "my sample". Rather than calling it "my copy," usually used by other reviewers. We own production SAMPLES made by official manufacturer. Often, the "copy" means "fake." Like "Rolex" for $35.. Thank you for your excellent review.
I'm sorry that my choice of terminology upset you. I understand your comments and will consider those in the future. That said, I don't think that there's any confusion that might arise from my use of the word "copy" in this video. Thanks for commenting.
@MaartenHeilbron oh, I'm sorry... but actually, I praised the way you described perfectly possible discrepancy during production as "in case of my sample." I will edit my comment, so my point of appreciation for using proper termin should be more obvious. Thank you for your kind reply.
Your reviews always stand out. Very comprehensive and show a bright picture for everyone to understand. Thanks so much for that Maarten. Which camera you recomand for stills (landscapes, sunsets/sunrises, nature - flowers, trees - few portraits): Fuji X-T30 or the Fuji X-S10 or maybe other brand? Thanks a lot.
That depends whether the sun is out (underexpose by a stop or two) or it’s overcast (overexpose a stop or two). In general, the histogram display will provide the best guidance for snow and sand scenes.
Hi Maarten, thank your very much for videos. I am coming from a X-T20 and just bought a X-S10 and I am so delighted:-)!!! The layout (PASM) is much more to my favour than the X-T20 dials. Especially I favour the 4 Custom settings. ( I always forgot something to set on the X-T20) Thanks to your videos I went configuring the camera. I am not always going along with your recommenations but it gave me a far better understanding of the parameters (the manual i too basic). Cheers Gerald
Thanks for taking the time to comment, and for your kind words. I. would never expect anyone to follow my methods, so glad to hear you've adapted them for your needs.
Thank you as always for your detailed review of these cameras. Just want to confirm that the XS10 HD video modes with 120fps and 240fps have a 1.29 crop on top of the apsc 1.53 crop just like the XT4?
Good advice. Especially about buying new cameras. Often, the excuse for money procrastination sounds like: I want to improve my photography. But when looking at the pictures taken with "outdated" previous cameras, it becomes obvious that there is still the ocean for improvement that has nothing to do with the camera or the lens. Often, the quality of "photography" screaming: Just get Nikon FM2 and start from the beginning. But... maybe a new, beautiful object in your hands will boost your inspiration for improvement..
While it’s true that many owners don’t take full advantage or have spent enough time learning their cameras, for those who appreciate the improvements, the X100VI has a great deal to offer both experienced and novice photographers.
@MaartenHeilbron excellent point. Though feel and composition is up to our honest impressions. Camera is a tool for expression. I'm not a photographer, I was a professional artist Illustrator. I know that the quality of the illustration board, drawing, and painting tools played maybe a maximum of 00.3% role in the final image. The rest is hard work, endless search, experimentation, and patience. Please let me express my deep appreciation for the time in responding to my comment. I have to admit that I accidentally started to watch your youtube videos a few years ago, maybe a little less.. but I can't resist your calm voice, kind disposition, and friendly patience in explaining complex things.. when I feel down, I often go to your youtube channel just to calm down and get some positive vibe.. forgive me, please, but in my case, it's not just about photography. And I can't appreciate you enough for work you do and share with us, regular mortals.
I do return cameras after the review - but (for lens reviews) it's been back several times. I am still a huge fan - it's a great mid-level enthusiast camera.
18:25 _"don't buy a new camera if what you really need is more practice"_ Ha! Well said. I fit that description perfectly. I must admit that I suffer from what is either "gear envy" or "gear greed". I really should stick with my X-T30 and my small collection of primes but the X-S10 is tempting. It reminds me of my first experiences with a Canon DSLR (Rebel Xti I think) and how frustrating it was to miss so many photos as I tried to use a kit zoom for all situations. Having learned over the years, and seeing good stabilization options in cameras like this, I can't help but wonder what it would be like to "try again" with my original setup of just one zoom lens. Yup, I'm suffering from "gear greed" for sure! Thanks for the great videos on the X-S10. I've subbed.
Thank you for all the wonderful videos. Can you please explain how to us multi exposure mode to generate one image using 9 images? I have a Fuji X-S10 and still new to it.
Press the drive key and select multi-exposure. Select your mode (this depends on the image you're trying to create. Snap the shutter, then follow the on-screen instructions. Spend some time experimenting and playing with this, then start creating the images you've imagined.
I watched this again hoping there would be detailed explanation on the mini HDMI, USB and audio connectors and their respective settings and functionality. Would you be interested in making a quick video on these? I.E. if you have audio leaving a mixer and plugged into the mic jack, what and how would you set it? Someone said the USB C with the conversion cable that comes with doubles as a headphone jack. True? Thanks Maarten.
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, there is a USB-C cable that can be used for headphone audio out included. That type of connection should be possible - set the levels so that there is minimal yellow and no red on the meter. As always, for crucial recordings, so a test prior to make sure everything is going as planned/expected. As I no longer have an X-S10 at my disposal, more videos are not likely. Is there other information you didn't find in the manual?
I have really found everything I wanted to know about this camera in your execellent post! Thanks! I'm using Sony FF for last few years, and Sony doesn't have a few features I really need, like Focus bracketing for product photography for example. I have downloaded some RAF files for demonstration and have found very usefull to apply film curves in Capture One, that I'm using as main RAW developer. This film simulations are very good starting point for further tweeking and I'm impressed how this color management works. With Sony I always have an issue by transforming in sRGB for screen viewing. Not so by Fuji. Edited (and soft proofed) image is very similar if not indenticall to exported file. So, I have ordered X-s10 with 16-80. Your video has help me to make this decision.
Great insights Maarten. Can I ask (as you mentioned it in an earlier reply) would you still recommend the XH1 over this XS10? I would have put the H1 above the S10 however I acquired and XT3 before Christmas and have found myself using the H1 less and less. I really only use it with my fast primes now. I just wonder would the S10 provide better AF?
Clearly, the decision should factor in your needs and preferences, but if you like the larger form factor and more physical controls, the X-H1 remains a good choice. You do give up several features (which may have no appeal for you), but the primary difference is the focus engine.
Hi Maarten! If you happen to see this, I would really appreciate your help. You mention in this video the X-S10 can do 4K and 4.2.2 in HDMI. Does this mean using an HDMI cable to connect to a monitor? When connected to a monitor, does it then record that higher option on the camera’s memory card, or do you need some sort of external recording to get the 4.2.2? I’m having a lot of trouble finding that info as a relative newbie. Also, does it really matter? I’m getting started with doing real estate photo and video. I have the X-S10 and a DJI Air 2S. I recently saw reviews of some monitors for the camera, but I don’t know if it’s helpful for the higher quality or if it will simply give me a bigger screen to look at. I hope the changes in your life are bringing you joy! Thanks!
When you use the HDMI cable to connect to an HDMI monitor/recorder, it will have the ability to record using the higher settings. Those settings don't apply to internal recordings. No, it doesn't really matter unless you are doing high-end production with significant post production exposure/colour grading. Any video posted on-line will likely not benefit from those small enhancements. Have a look at Atomos devices, and yes, a larger screen (7") provides benefits in terms of detail, colour reproduction and focus - as those details can be missed on the lower quality LCDs provided on the camera. Thanks for your kind words and wishes.
This was amazing! Thank you so much! I just bought this camera and am new to photography. It has helped me understand my camera and take great photos. I have one question: if I want to do Astrophotography, do I use switch to manual focus mode and focus to infinite with the manual dial?
So glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for the kind words. Yes, manual focus (the camera will find it difficult to focus on a dark sky). Not all the way to infinity, just until the blue depth of field ruler on-screen reaches the right edge. Stars will be clearer with smaller apertures (and longer shutter durations).
For those of us not familiar with all the labyrinths of this menu, please, please explain the rout to the settings. (OK, I'm a dummy, I confess). I've yet to find how to change from continuousto single, and back. It was SO simple on the x-t2, a nice thumb-accessible 'mode' dial. I miss it even though I often accidentally turned it. Also, quite a lot of us out here don't use Photoshop, but other editing apps. (I use Lumiar ai as a stand-alon.)
I am really not sure what is not clear. When you press the menu key, the menu appears on screen. Navigate to the AF/MF tab on the left side, the use focus mode to select the option you wish.
I appreciate your excellent reviews. I was cinsidering the x-s10 or z50 but am a bit concerned avout the small viewfinder (to my eyes) on the former. I have not been able to looke through a Z50 viewfinder but see fro the specification that it is bigger. Would you describe it as appreciably larger?
Great info Maarten. Do you have any info on tethering being added for the X-S10? It's really the only thing missing for me as I do some product photography.
Honestly, I've not heard anything. I think it's Fujifilm's intention that this feature would be available on the X-Tx cameras - like the X-T3 and X-T4.
Maarten, thank you so much for your excellent reviews. I'm trying to decide among the xs10 w/16-80, the Canon RP w/24-240 (or?), and the Z50 w/2lens kit. General photography, especially people. Not so much video. I'm older, so IBIS seems a plus, though I realize you consider it over-rated. Tried an a6600 and liked the size and the 18-135, but not the over-sharpened jpeg portraits. Tried a Z5 and was impressed but it's heavy enough to be left in the bag at home in favor of my smartphone :( Your suggestion?
Thanks for your kind words. If you liked the A6600 - it does have in camera controls to create your own profile(s) where you can set the sharpening to your taste. Otherwise, I like all three of those choices, so that brings it down to selecting using your wallet, your hand (which feels best, has most appropriate controls for your style) and your style/brand preference.
Hi, Maarten. I enjoy your detailed and helpful reviews! I'm looking at Xs10 as another body, primarily for run-and-gun video clips. I'm a 30-year photojournalist who still shoots D4/5's for most of my work stills, but mostly all Fuji on my personal photos (XT1, xH1, X100F). Coming from XH1, wondering if the lower resolution viewfinder to be very noticeable? I hardly use the LCD on my cameras while shooting, but need to see well with the viewfinder. Thanks again for any help you can provide!
The X-S10 may let you down as a video recorder, as it overheats quickly. If the X-H1 doesn't fulfil your needs (it's one I could recommend) then the X-T3 or X-T4 might serve.
Excellent review. I’ve had mine for a couple of days shooting a lot, and I really like it a lot. I agree with most everything you’ve said about what’s good and what needs to be improved. However, the camera has one annoyance that you didn’t mention. I’m constantly changing the exposure compensation accidentally because my thumb rests right on the rear command dial. It turns very easily, there’s no physical lock button, and I haven’t figured a way to turn it off or reassign it. Unless I’m missing something, this really needs to be addressed in a firmware update.
Thanks for the kind words. That didn't happen to me - but I know that from time to time I review a camera that I seem to mis-adjust while I'm in the early stages of familiarization. Hopefully either the firmware is changed (that dial should be assignable) or your muscle memory adapts.
I’ve been using a Panasonic lumix fz1000 but have found that the bulk has me leaving it at home and just using the iPhone. I want to start carrying a more capable camera and the xs10 seems like a fit for a Fuji newbie looking to learn to do more than just Point and shoot. Thanks for all the info. (Enjoyed the vid… even though you had lego leafs 🙂)
Thank you for the review. I just bought a Touit 2.8/50M lens for my Fuji X-S10. Can you please do a good video about how to do all the macro settings and save it to C1 or C2?
Sadly, the X-S10 has gone back to Fujifilm Canada, but maybe I can borrow it again. Can you provide a little more detail about exactly what you would like to accomplish with the macro settings?
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you for the reply. I like to take pictures of flowers and insects. Got a macro lens which is Touit 2.8/50M. I want to set up my camera to take macro photos where I can dial the C1 or C2 and just take pictures. I know that I will have to adjust the iso or other settings according to the situation. However if I can learn more about Macro photography, it will be great. I watched so many videos about lens reviews, but there are not many about actual camera settings for Macro photos.
@@nh6405 The settings for macro follow the same rules as other photos. In general, use the largest aperture (F4/F2.8) and the smallest ISO setting you can. Focus can be tricky, and I advise manual focus. I prefer the expanded view for accuracy, so if you set Focus Check to On, it will show a small area of the image to help focus.
Thanks for sharing Maarten. I wonder why engineers can't make things simple. Simple menus with less options suit better to the majority of us. It's a nonsense to multiply menus, sub-menus etc... for useless options. I've just bought this camera but l'll go to the essential, just like with a film camera, and have fun with it and my 35 f:2.
Thanks for your kind words. I would not blame the engineers - I would blame the product managers. However, I don't think any of these options are useless. Even you may never have reason to use them, there are others that do, and vice versa. I welcome all options, I would just like them better organized.
@@MaartenHeilbron You're a specialist Maarten. Not everyone is😊. Even if I take pictures for 40 years with several brands, I get lost. Moreover, unless I'm mistaken, the X-S10 is intended to newcomers and it seems to me that an easy to use camera could be a good bridge between smartphone and camera worlds. On Leica or Hasselblad cameras, you've got less buttons, less options, but more pleasure to use because you find what you need when you need it, easily.
i keep seeing the exposure compensation settings on film simulations that people make by any means does anyone know how to set the setting that they're asking for?
In most modes, you use the rear dial to set the exposure compensation. It makes the image lighter or darker when you feel that the auto exposure setting isn't the brightness you want.
Hi Sir, When choosing the first lens for Fuji XS 10, 16-55 kit lens or 16-80 kit lens or 35mm f2 prime lens which one is better for general photography?
There is no menu setting to customize the front or back command dial. For iso, it seems easy enough to use the iso key to make the adjustment. Thanks, a pleasure to read your kind words.
I have an x-e2 and pretty much mastered the menu system, but am feeling a bit overwhelmed by this camera's system, is there a video or can you suggest some basic settings that i can just get started and feel a bit confident before exploring the whole menu system--thanks
Of course. Use Program, Auto white balance, AF-S and Wide. That's as simple as you can make this camera - although you might want to make EV adjustments.
Hi Martin, Thanks a lot for this detailed review! How would you compare the autofocus of X-S10 and Nikon Z50. Especially in the department of face/eye detection and subject tracking. Also how capable is X-S10 for fast-moving (BiF like) subjects? Thank you!
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you. It seems that they really have the advantage. Nevertheless I was not happy with the ergonomy and layout from Sony. Also, jpeg IQ (color, density) from the camera was not OK to my eye. I do not want to go back to Sony. I wonder if you see significant differences in AF performance between S-X10 and Z50. Such observations would be very helpful.
Hi Maarten, I'm new to (beyond iphone) photography and just found your channel, I enjoy your content and subscribed. I'd like to ask your recommendation. Again, I'm new and not as technically versed as many in photography and I would like to start taking better photos and video of wildlife and the outdoors (primary use). Low light shooting would certainly be important.. The two cameras I'm considering are the Fujifilm X-S10 and the Sony A6600. If you had to choose one for the application described, which would it be please ?? They both seem very capable, much more capable than I am (right now)
Both are good choices - I find the Sony to be slightly more capable (particularly focus, particularly if you have a pet) however, I prefer the controls, design and feel of the Fujifilm. So, it's really a choice you can leave up to your wallet, your hand, brand preference and your sense of style.
Great video. Thanks. Can you get the front dial (front of the shutter button) to change the aperture values instead of using the aperture ring ? I'm using the 16-80
I have an xt1 that i love, especially the sooc. Its getting old now, do you think that this would be a good upgrade if i decided to get a newer camera? Btw i havent decided yet, and yes i do need to take more pictures - but current situation in 2020 has drastically limited opportunities.
In what way (other than its age) is the X-T1 no longer pleasing you? Although there are some features (like focus, burst speed, video) that have improved for most photography there's little advantage to this upgrade.
I have a question, is record time limit in 4k is only 30 minutes or until memory run out? I also will shot interview or event which longer than 30 minutes, i am little bit scared about the overheating?is it okay?
Clearly, all cameras will stop recording when there is no more card space. If that is a concern, don't purchase this camera, as there are others that are both more suitable for video recording and do not have a time limit. The same applies to overheating. As I said in the video, the overheating icon appeared, however, the camera kept recording for a long time afterwards. Hope this helps.
Sir, plz tell me Nikon z5 vs Fuji xs10 which is best for wedding photography (in same price range camera s in india)one is full frame and one is crop sensor
Great video as usual :) Question: when you are in Manual mode, is there an auto setting for SS so the camera can be used essentially like the other more traditional fuji bodies? Likewise, I assume that Auto for aperture works in Manual mode in a similar way. Another question, in Manual mode, the front dial controls Aperture. But what if the lens has an aperture dial and it is set to say 2.8. Can you still adjust the aperture with the front dial or is it fixed to 2.8? Thanks!
Yes, you can set shutter duration in manual (as demonstrated in the video). If you are using auto aperture, you are not in manual. If the dial icon appears above the aperture setting, it can be adjusted using the dial, which over-rides the manual setting.
@@MaartenHeilbron yes, I understand that the SS can be set in Manual. What I was wondering is whether it can be set to Auto SS, which essentially makes it aperture priority but under Manual mode. What I like about the fuji dials is that you can be in essentially aperture priority by setting the SS to auto and then really quickly set a desired SS if the situation calls for that. I wonder if the xs10 can be used the same way.
@@ibugama6420 This camera has a PASM dial, so doesn't quite operate like that. There is a video mode setting to select the exposure mode (program, aperture, shutter or manual) in the menu. For video, I would really recommend that you use the movie optimized control to set exposure parameters.
Hello Maarten, I need your help:-). On my new X-S10 I can fix the exposure by pressing the AEL-button (Press and it is fixed until I press it again) but it is not working with the AFON-button. There I have to keep on pressing. Have I missed something? On my X-T20 is was working for both, very convenient.
I really admire all your videos, best unbiased reviewer, much appreciated!! I do you need your recommendation, i am new to photography, and i find it difficult to choose between the XS 10 and the nikon z50. If money is not a problem, Which is the best camera to pick from a photographer point of view? And which camera i can grow using it? Does the IBIS help a lot ?
Both have good attributes, depending on your needs and preferences, either is a good choice. With regard to stabilization, I find that for stills, there is some benefit, for video, it does not provide more than slight improvement - certainly not the equal of a tripod or gimbal.
@@charbelesber1257 Yes, they are mainly equal although not the same. They do both have settings and adjustments to change the colour profile to make them more similar.
When camera shopping, I loved the feel of the Nikon z50, but the 2 zoom lenses made for this camera didn’t suit my needs. Much more expensive to buy f2.8 lenses for Nikon Vs Fuji
@@ozwrangler.c I'd go with feel and comfort over cost. Remember Ben Franklin "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten." In this case substitute feel and comfort.
Hello Maarten. Many thanks for your thoughtful and thorough review. Would you please share your advice on selecting from the list below? Canon EOS M6 Mark II Nikon Z5 Fujifilm X-T30 Fujifilm X-T4 (beyond current budget) Fujifilm X-S10 (top choice) I would like to add that I don't mind adapting to each of them with respect to "grip/feel" and learning about their dial and menu options. Thanks a lot for any advice you might have.
Thanks a lot Maarten, for your kind advice and recommendation. I am now enjoying the X-S10. On a side note, I will stay a bit away from Google...but I will still keep following your excellent reviews. I also wish you a safe and happy 2021.
There is not. However, you can power this camera with any external USB-C PD type battery. I think you'll find several that can be mounted on a flash shoe.
Thank you for your very helpful and well done video!!! Could you please tell me why in my XS10 even if I set a focus scale I don't see the line that moves according to the focus area? Thank you and sorry for my english! I tried in manual focus mode and turning the focus ring and set the scale on film (I also tried with the pixel scale...) but nothing appears. when I had the XT4 it appeared to me for example. 1 Set From Zero Rispondi
Just to confirm, you see the focus ruler, but not the line that indicates the current focus distance? You do need to be in manual focus mode (as you suggest) and the film/pixel switch shouldn't change that. Are you using a Fujifilm or third party lens?
@@MaartenHeilbron Hi, thank you for answering me!!! I'm using only Fujifilm lens ( 33mm f.1.4 and 16-80 f.4 ) I don't see the focus ruler but neighter the line that indicates the current focus distance... I known its not normal ! I also did the firmrware ( and I also reset the camera to clear any incorrect setting ) Thank you very much for your time!
Understood. If you are in manual focus mode, then the only thing I can think is that you have the large display on (it seems to over-ride the focus ruler).
Thank you for your reviews and hard work to enlighten us. If all goes to plan I will be going to South Africa this time next year. Whilst the general photography will be covered do you think it this would be suitable for safari photography with suitable lenses ? Or a XT4 ? Many thanks.
Your kind words were read with pleasure, thanks. With suitable lenses, absolutely. If you don't mind a larger body and are happy to go with the non-PASM (I think it's simpler) approach, the X-T4 is the better camera, particularly for video.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you. I take it you mean PASM is the simpler approach due to dial configuration ? I am erring towards s x10 due to PASM having been Canon user and dabbled with a XT30 but concerned would the safari environment be to harsh. I am happy the rest of the trip would be catered for. Thanks again.
@@williamsmith2233 In my opinion (sorry if that wasn't clear) non-PASM is simpler to use - however it's not what most people are used to. If the shooting conditions are an issue (and other than heat, I'm not sure what might be a challenge on safari) the X-T4 might be slightly more reliable as it has better weather-sealing. I would not worry about the X-S10 in those conditions.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you. I re read the original answer after I had replied. 😊then it made sense to me. My bad. Dust was the biggest fear from what I have been reading re safari. I am not in a position to take 2 bodies to avoid lens changes. However at the end of the day whatever I have will suffice. As it’s an experience not a photography holiday as such, although there will be plenty taken, if that makes sense. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated.
@@williamsmith2233 If you can avoid changing lenses - in this or any situation - you will save yourself some grief. Although Fujifilm is less susceptible than other brands (Sony cameras are real dust magnets) I would make sure you have a blower and brush to clean the sensor when needed. Weather sealing will not help keep dust from the sensor.
I am stumped and maybe you can help me. When I put my XS10 in Aperture priority mode and shoot a photo i get these 3 boxes at the bottom of the screen one says NEXT one says RETRY and the 3rd says EXIT and it won't let me shoot another photo the tally light on the back is flashing and I have to click on the disp.back to get rid of that screen. You'd be my hero if you can tell me what I'm doing wrong! Thank you.
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you! I’m returning to digital after a multi-year detour into the land of medium format film and have found your videos to be exceptionally informative and entertaining. You helped me cut through my analysis paralysis. Still not giving up my beloved Kodak Medalist II though!
X-S10, X-T3 (with OIS lens) or A7iii for video? Mainly concerned about Fuji’s autofocus and exposure jumping issues, also IBIS on X-S10 seems a bit underwhelming. However, Sony would naturally come to cost somewhat more.
I am not going to try to reassure you on those issues, as they are valid concerns. And being aware of them, they will continually annoy you. Have you considered the X-T4? It is an improvement on both of those issues. Unless you are recording on an external monitor, the X-T3 and X-T4 provide higher quality video with more capability.
@@MaartenHeilbron Yes, X-T4 seems a good option especially with local lowest pricing at the moment (around 1800 usd with the kit lens). Also, A7C seems like a good contender with improved autofocus over the A7iii.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you i found it ☺️ Is there a way to quickly adjust the shutter speed in manual mode? Because i felt like it took forever to turn the rear dial from 1/30 to 1/4000 with the Xs10, unlike the other ones in the XT series when we can see the numbers on the dials and adjust quickly =)))
Thank you for your detailed and informative reviews. As a beginner, I definitely need practice to improve my skills, but my camera needs are not currently being met because I do yet own any equipment. :) I am looking to purchase my first ever camera/lens. My interest lies in nature/outdoor stills. Separate dials for ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed may be more user friendly to me than the button/screen combo. I like the feel and heft of the Fuji T4, but it may become heavy to use all the time and be more than I need to start out. The Fuji T30 felt comfortable at first, but as I held it longer, the small grip began to cause some hand discomfort. I then looked at the Fuji X S10 and liked several features but wished they had the same dials as the T30. I still need to touch and feel the Sony A6100 one more time for comparison. As this is a first purchase, I want to choose something that I can grow into and add quality lenses to as I go along. If the A6100 with both 16-50 mm and 55-210 mm lenses costs the same as the X S10 with a 16-80 mm lens, would you favor one over the other, or recommend I give the T30 or T4 another look over these two options?
All are good choices, and as you point out, these are personal decision about dial and controls, weight and aesthetics. If your budget allows look at the X-T4 again and think about how you might manage the weigh issue you anticipate by using better or more comfortable straps and backpacks.
If you can find an adapter to x-mount, they will generally work, but you'll be setting both exposure (use the histogram) and focus (use expanded view or peaking) manually.
Hi there! I love your videos, you provide a lot of precious information to us. I have been reading all the comments and replies to find a solution to all my doubts. I am a passionate photographer/videographer, I really love street photography and landscapes. I'd like to buy a camera and like many others, all the doubts are on X-T3, X-T4 and now X-S10. I know for good quality videos I will need a gimbal (so maybe the inbody stabilizer it's not a must). For still pictures do I really need the built-in stabilizer? I know that XT-4 (16-80mm)+ DJI Ronin-SC could be the best pick I can do. It is really worth it? or maybe XT-3 (16-80mm)+ DJI Ronin-SC, saving almost $1000 I can have the same results. sorry, really I am stuck here.
Fuji XS 10 or XT 200 for a novice who just want great looking photos and videos with auto mode for casual travelling and events. No budget constraint. Just want a user friendly camera for point and shoot
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you! So is it the right conclusion to say for children photography the A6600 would be better ? Our two are 2+4 years and move quick and unpredictable which makes it difficult for the camera to follow in video and sometimes in photo. Furthermore if stabilization is marginal A6400 with stabilized lens would be almost as good for AF and stabilization and cheaper? As an alternative would the Olympus EM5-iii fullfill these two criteria AF & stabilization better ?
@@MaartenHeilbron I had the xt30 it was almost perfect apart from not having ibis. But I am not sure i can handle the lack of dials of the xs10. After all nothing can substitute a good tripod, ibis is not magic. Is the right dial, the one without any numbers or letters, in the xs10 is it customisable or just used to turn on the camera?
@@RodolphosTechchannel The right dial doesn't turn on the camera (there's a switch integrated with the shutter release) but it is sadly not customizable.
Guys can you confirm that there is no timelapse option of the xs10 ? This is for real ? When people gonna understand that this is a main tool... I can believe i regret so much my purchase... can someone confirm ? Thanks
@@MaartenHeilbron and what do you think about my decision? Do you think the “more features fugi camera” and stabilization is more important than your own perception of image quality? I’m not a professional and not used any of this cameras. I own a old 3100 Nikon that needs retirement.
@@oldschoolit3290 It's a very good decision. You'd likely be happy with either, but your perception of the colour quality will do a great deal to persuade you which you prefer.
I am offended by your suggestion that I thoroughly learn my equipment before buying newer stuff. This would literally force the camera industry into bankruptcy. These kinds of reckless statements are not becoming of such a high-quality photography channel as yours. Oh, and I can see you taunting me with your 100,000 Sub RU-vid plaque in the background.
You are correct to be offended. You and the many others who are busy spending their children's inheritance on foolish tech toys are to be commended for your dedication to keeping the consumer economy thriving. I trust that you've already ordered all the new models released last week, along with the boat load of lenses required. And several of those new Macs (privacy be damned!) that will decorate the shelves of your RU-vid background. BTW - if you'd like to borrow the plaque for an upcoming shoot, please let me know.
What an over-the-top and needlessly snarky comment. Camera companies will stay solvent by producing new products with genuine innovation, new features and state of the art software and connectivity that really improves the users photography, not by pandering to the charity of gear head addicts.
@@davegarth Please accept our apologies - Paul and I are old friends engaged in a little comedy banter. Sorry that you have mis-construed our comments.
One's expectations should match the price of the item. For video, it's best to buy an appropriate lens like the MKX series. However, I did not find the AF slow on this lens, as I demonstrated in part one of this video.
