Fujifilm just releaset their new X-T50 camera, if you are interested in my take on that release here is the video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-91GquPEuUoI.html
this is the lone fuji camera that has not gone crazy on the 2ndary market and is a true gem. Has trans IV with all the film sims of xt-4, small size, etc.
Fuji doesnt want to compete in the fullframe market since its the most satured one. They found their retro niche in the high end apsc market and are doing amazingly there. They do have medium format for those who find the crop sensor not deeming. They found a winning formula where Canon,Sony,Nikon and Panasonic are fighting over professional market they go for enthusiasts and hobbists, and its working.
Yeah, there is some sense in your words, but still for me is strange that Fujifilm brings film simulation from their film background, but dont have same as film size sensors in their cameras
Honestly, unless you're ready to pay any amount of money for the full frame lenses (I'm talking 1500 usd+ each) to get the extra 3% quality, it doesn't make sense. Speaking for myself, my X-H2 + 27mm f1.2 viltrox is sharper and punchier than any lens I have for the A7C2, including Sony G lenses. That kit is cheaper than just the Sony body!
I've been enjoying my X-T30II since September 2022. It's an ideal size for my small hands, yet works like a champ. For its affordable price, the picture quality is superb.
I switched to Fuji for pro work (weddings, portraits, food) with a X-H2. I come from Sony and I don't regret it at all, lighter gear and more importantly having more fun. I got an XT-30 II as a backup, I ended up using it almost everyday for street and even for some pro shoots with a wide lens. The image quality is amazing and the workflow is really nice.
How do you handle low lights with Fuji at weddings? Because I find full frame to be on the limit. Also do you lack depth of field and blur on background as it is less with aps-c sensors?
@@ShotsByJev I push to 6400 ISO and sometimes a bit higher as most people don't care about a bit of noise :) Also I tend to use a couple of off-flashes in the room if it is really dark . For bokeh 56mm 1.4 is amazing. FF is way overrated these days. I even sometimes shoot with my Lumix GX9 with a 30mm equivalent 1.7 Leica MFT lens and it works great !
Yeah I don't get why so many photographers are scared of using Fuji professionally, counting also that having the film simulations makes the photos incredible, getting photos ''right'' how you want them on the spot with those FS it speeds up everything in post too. I Use an X-T30II with a variety of lens (35mm 1.4 my favorite) in any situation.
I searched for this camera for so long and haven’t had any luck - I gave up! 😂 I bought an XE2 and it’s ok, but the used market these days is just too insane. I’m hoping Fujifilm comes out with a new XT model next year. 🤞🏼
I just checked and for example amazno.com does have this camera, so it is possible to get it, ofcourse depends on the region you trying to find the camera. Anyway if you will be able to get one just get it, its such a camera that new model wont be that significantly better so you would regret buying X-T30II. It's like with GoPro, I got 11 Black and after few months 12 Black came out and yes it is a bit better, but not much 😊
@@ShotsByJev yes, it’s a great camera. I’m in Japan and saw a used one on JP Amazon, but it was selling for more than I paid for my xs10 brand new. I’ll get one eventually, I think 🤙🏼
The XE2 is amazing! I love and still use it. In a way, it has a completely different character from modern Fuji cameras. Try a TT Artisan 23mm f 1.2 on it and you'll really enjoy the way the images look!
Excellent review: comprehensive and with an articulate, flowing narrative. One thing I like about the camera is the ability to swipe the rear screen to activate selected camera functions. No need to fiddle with buttons or go into the menu. Really enjoyed your presentation.
Yeah, you are right, in my other video covering fujifilm camera settings I talked that for some people those touch screen gestures are useful while others tend to turn them off
Thank you! Ive been eyeing this camera for months now, did alot of research etc.. me and my family travel alot so it would be great to have this on hand, all i have to do now is make a big fat presentation for my dad on why he should get me this for my birthday...
Hope you will be able to get one for yourself and hey, you always can pitch the idea for the family that you can use the camera to earn some money on your spare time!
How do you find the camera's view finder whilst wearing glasses? I hear the 'eye relief' is not very good, as in it is hard to see the corners of the frame whilst looking through the view finder for people who wear glasses? (I wear glasses myself)
Just because I wear glasses thats why I dont like EVFs. Because everytime my glasses would all smudged up, so I was very happy when cameras became mirrorless and I didnt had to use EVF as frequently, only on a sunny day for example. And for me Fuji’s EVF is fine, not the best, but then again on my work Sony A7III EVF isnt the best either
I love my XS-20 and it produces images that are equal or better than my Pentax K1 II, but my Pentax has an excellent viewfinder and my XS-20 viewfinder is way too small. I wish the XS-20 had the same viewfinder as the XH2-S.
I get your point, thankfully for me I dont like shooting through viewfinder, so it doesnt bother me that much. But it is also understandable why in XH2-S it is better, because there should be the reason to spend more and get better camera. It is already cool that all Fuji camera comes with same sensor and processor across ine generation.
very informative video! do you think this camera is a good hybrid camera? I know it's great for photography, but I wondered if it's equally good for videography.
Thank you! Regarding being this camera a hybrid I wouldnt say so, basically because this camera doesnt have IBIS, the only solution is to use lens with OIS if you want to avoid using a gimbal, if you want a true hybrid camera check X-S20 as it has IBIS so it helps filming hand held a lot. I am currently working on the video review of that camera and it is great.
Can someone give me advice? I never had a chance to use a Fuji camera but always loved the idea of having one. I am a Professional food photographer and I would like to have another camera as a backup camera for professional work and same time for fun for travel. Who had a chance to use the Fujifilm X-T30 II camera for professional work, in general, can you use this as a professional tool for food photography? I do not talk about super complicated studio products high-class food photoshoots for big brands I am talking about food photography in restaurants for social media posts for the restaurant Menu for portfolio.
Hey! This camera would be great for you needs, I often bring my X-T30II to weddings as a back up camera and some times even use it there, so I see no problem using it while shooting food photography. Just keep in mind as it is compact camera it might be not as comfortable to hold it for longer period of time while working, but for few shots it is great and especially for travel
Is this still a good camera to buy in 2024… i’m a beginner and in the market for a fuji camera and i’ve been seeing great reviews! but is this still a good camera in a few years? i mean still good enough maybe after 4 years?
Yes! It is great camera for beginners, its packed with great features that will be still enough even after two years. It can even record 4k videos (although for short duration due to small body and overheating)
Whenever people mention the ergonomics of the XT30ii, I always want to tell them about a hot shoe thumb grip. I have big hands, and this really changed the way I feel about holding the camera. Also, I think it looks great. I have the silver body with a matching silver grip. The back buttons remain easily accessible as well. I prefer back button focusing and there's been no issue.
Well for me the X-T30ii thumb grip is plenty enough, no need for more. Also personally my opinion, that X-T30ii with hot shoe thumb grip looks even worse than X-E4 with all added grips. But hey, it is just my opinion, and if you enjoy using your camera with that hot shoe grip than it is all that matters, because we all have our own preferences!
I am thinking of getting this camera with the 18 - 55mm kit lens. Have you tried it? I heard the lens has inbuilt stabilization so I assume the lack of IBIS is not an issue.
I didnt had experience with 18-55mm but instead I have XC15-45, it is smaller but darker, so if the size wont be an issue for you I think 18-55 should be great with f2.8 at the wide side
If you directly compare fuji sensor to full frame then fuji will loose in low light performance. No matter how good they are you can outlaw physics and amount of captured light by sensor.
There is no shame in that. Is it also a shame that Nikon, canon, Sony don't make medium format cameras.. You should refrain form using such words for reputed companies which know way more than you about cameras.
I know this is a while ago but I’m at a crossroads. I have a 70D, it does the job but I’ve been wanting to move towards mirrorless. I’ve seen a lot of people recommend this camera but it’s quite a bit smaller than my current body and it would also mean starting from 0 with lenses. Can’t really afford the latest offerings from Sony but I’ve seen this camera £700 or so with a kit lens and have been really considering it. Would you say I would notice the difference enough to justify the change from a 70D to this?
Hey! As a fuji user I must say that these aps-c cameras a pretty capable, the ISO performance is nice. Can't be 100% sure, but I believe it is better than on older Canon aps-c cameras. The size og X-T30II is small, yes, but it depends how you plan to use it. If for travelling then the size is great for that, if you want to use it for work then the small size might be an issue. In that case take a look at X-S10/20 as those cameras are with bigger grips while also has IBIS which is very usefull
@@ShotsByJev the one thing I’ve noticed in all the reviews I’ve watched is how good the ISO performance seems to be compared to my 70d, it amazed me. I’m now looking into the X-S10 as the grip plus IBIS is drawing me in. I love how it looks and from the sample photographs I’ve seen…Wow just wow. Incredible levels of sharpness, colour output and light availability
Yeah, the ISO is great although it still looses against full frame sensors (for example to my Sony A7iii) also if you have spare money look for X-S20 instead of X-S10 as it has better IBIS and bigger battery which is very usefull.
@@ShotsByJev Can’t really justify the £1,000+ price tag to be honest as I will need to buy glass along with it. Found some X-S10’s second hand for similar prices to the X-T30 without the lens so I’m looking at £1,000 for both the body and the lens, a lottt of money but I’m going to Berlin in May next year so it’s definitely time for a smaller more light weight camera that I can take anywhere and still get great shots. The better IBIS would be great as would the battery but I’d sooner buy a few extra batteries to keep by my side than drop £1,400 on a camera 😂
Well I chose 27mm lens over 23mm lens first of all because of size difference and second sometimes 23mm for me is a little too wide. Probably I should make a video review of this 27mm pancake lens
This is a great review! One thing that I'm a little curious about, is that you talk about the fact that it's not a camera that you'd use as your A camera on a wedding for example. Why is that? You mentioned the fact that pro cameras have more features, but I'm curious about what those features would be other than dual card slots?
Thank you! Regarding weddings first of all this camera is way too compact to carry it around comfortably capturing wedding moments, then if you attach heavier lens it becomes front heavy. The last thing that would stop me is aps-c sensor, because I need low light performance, although everytime I take some low light images with this fuji I get amazed how it performs, so maybe in the future I will think about X-T4 for weddings
@@ShotsByJev Very interesting, thanks! I love it when people comment on the weight distribution like you did - that is a very real thing that people gloss over. I'm interested in switching to Fuji for weddings and anything else photo related (Panasonic is my favourite for video), but as it stands my Canon 5D Mark IV is still my fave for wedding photos.
Well, it's two different price range devices. If I had the ability to get Leica I would do the same :) By the way what was the price difference for you between Fuji and Leica?
I bought the Fuji with the kit lens $1600 Aus. The 8 year old Leica Q cost $2400 Aus!!! The simplicity of the Q and the lens is really nice. I really loved the Fuji, especially with a Helios lens, I also had the 18-300mm Tamaron which I loved!! But the Q is just wow😮
No, no, no, I dont recommend this X-T30II for weddings, simply because it isnt as sturdy as Canon 6d for example. I rarely used this fuji for one and a half year and front command dial started to lag, so I cant imagine what is going to happen if you will use it for work and much more frequently
I've had this camera for a month. For work I use a Sony but carry this one just for fun. My only regret is not getting it in black. Also the app connects 70% of the time while using it on Android.
1:26 - why did you show nikon zf when saying that every other company is trying to make modern looking camera? zf is probably even more retro looking than anything fuji makes
Well, the only fix lens I have is XF27mm but I dont think it is prime one, but just check few of fujifilm fix lenses, the mentioned xf27mm is good, but F2.8 is a bit lower than F2 in XF23mm for example, but the XF23mm is also bigger. Overall I would suggest as the first lens for Fujifilm either XF27mm or XF23mm
I went for 27mm because of the size mostly, also 23mm is a bit too wide for my taste, but I paid for that with darker aperture. So it depends on the needs. Also if there is option I would always go for native fujinon lenses i stead of third party unless there is significant price difference or budget limitation
Sorry I left out that aspect, but as I wear glasses I shoot as much as possible without using EVF. For me its fine, not perfect, but then again I use Sony A7III for work and there is also a bit worse EVF than in other A7 models. The best part for me in mirrorless cameras is that you can comfortably shoot using lcd screen instead of evf :)
X-T30II and X-E4 should habe the same EVF. I have/had both (sold my X-E4, could not resist the crazy selling prices and replaced it with the X-T30ll), the EVF is not too big but absolutely fine in my eyes. Directly compared to the X-T5 the size-difference is huge but the EVF of the 30ll is absolutely usable. Cheers!
Yeah, EVF on both X-T30II and X-E4 should deffinitelly be the same and it is also logical that it would be slightly worse than on X-T4 for example. Btw congrats on makong profits with X-E4, I think I would consider doing the same if I gone for X-E4 last year 😁
Just ordered this camera over the much-hyped (and back-ordered) X100V. I think it will be a great camera for us and in the long run may prove to be the better choice.
How you imagine is possible to fit IBIS in such small body? There is no space for that in current body. Also 40mp sensor would be so unnecessary because now it is perfect casual camera. With 40mp images would take much more space for no reason
@@ShotsByJev it has a PASM setup and a fully articulated screen, which I don’t care for. It is not unreasonable to want an X-t40 with IBIS. All the X-Txx models so far have followed the X-Tx models with a smaller size, smaller viewfinder and drive dial but no ISO dial and a few less direct controls.
Thank you! But I dont think that there should be dual slot, because on bigger Fujis there is ones, and this is small casual camera, so it is fine. There would be no point to have different models if the only difference would be in size. Also you can shoot raw+jpg to one card
Well, I got mine XT30ii after X100F exactly because of the reasom XT30ii gives you option to have multiple lenses even though I got just two, so you deffinitely could get it lets say with XF27mm lens which would be great for travel and have better quality than iPhone
Hello! Thank you for providing this. I have had the x-t30 II since it came out. I replaced my x-t20. Some of the issues you have are the same I do, for example the placement of the play button. I don't shoot video but the video is beautiful! I see you are using the 27mm which is the lens that lives on the camera. I only wish the touch to shoot was a little more responsive. I don't use this feature often but sometimes when in crowded streets, I used this on my GX9 and it's way more responsive. FYI, I rented the X-E4 but I preferred the on board control features of the x-t30. Have you downloaded the new Fuji app yet? It's MUCH better!
Thanks for such comprehensive comment! As your comment shows we all use our cameras a bit differently as I never tried touch to shoot function, but now I might! Regarding new Fuji app I want to try it, but I didnt manage to update camera software yet so it would be compatible with new app
@@ShotsByJev I think you'll be amazed at how much better it is! Yes, touch to shoot I only use during very specific situations, for example when moving between crowded places very quickly or when I really need to be discreet. I would love to know how it works for you. I'm finding it a little slow, as I mentioned. Thanks for giving the X-T30 II some love!
This has been one of the most helpful reviews of this camera! I’m debating downgrading my smartphone to a flip phone. I found this camera to capture photo and video of my kids! No doubt will be better than iPhone but do you think this would perform as a total replacement? Thank you 🤍
Thank you for such a kind words! Well I think it could work if you could commit to it, because for me to take images with camera is more fun than with iPhone, also for my doughter it is also more fun, just need to develop habit not to capture every details with iPhone but have a dedication once or twise a week take some images with camera
