Can we also quickly talk about the low light preview? I found it so different from my xt3/xpro3/xs10 sensor, especially when doing astrophotography
@wjpepper
@wjpepper Год назад
@@keith5824 Hi Keith, I have been planning the purchase of either the xt5 or xh2. With the intent of some occasional Milky Way use. Amateur Photographer lists the xt5 as the best FUJIFILM camera for astrophotography. Reading 'in-between the lines' of your comment, do you disagree? Thanks, Bill
@keith5824
@keith5824 Год назад
@@wjpepper hey Bill, I do deep sky photography as well as wide-field Milky Way shots. My experience so far is those 26.1mp sensors are really really good at focusing in darkness and finding objects in sky. XT5, on the other hand, can be kinda difficult to frame and focus. It can be almost pitch black in XT5 while XT3/XPro3/XS10 gives you an excellent preview. However, those are typically when I do deep sky photography, where I would need to operate 300mm+ lens pointing towards a tiny region in the dark sky. For milkyway photography, you should be good. I find XT5 typically gives more vibrant and detailed images. The noise level is going to be higher than those 26.1mp sensors but it’s more ‘refined’ so apple to apple it actually looks more detailed. I think you should be good
@keith5824
@keith5824 Год назад
@@wjpepper Another plus for using Fuji for astrophotography is actually x-trans sensors’ IR cut filter does not eliminate infrared wavelengths as much as other brands. They can receive much more Hydrogen-alpha lights making it perfect for showing those reds in Milky Way. It can be 2/3 as good as Canon Ra (the official Astro mod for R). With some tricks you can even photograph some beautiful nebula without filters

There is not an official XT 5 review that counts more than this one. Thank you Chris for all you do for us your followers from the Fuji XT Army. Being an amateur photographer only i can’t conceive life without my XT30 and my XT5 and I can’ t tell anyone enough the sheer pleasure that they bring to me and the role they play into this passion. Now, this pleasure would be significantly downgraded to a headache if i didn’t have the resource of going to your channel and being able to understand all the features that they have and turn them to my advantage and, like all of us, having you as our consultant for all things. Your work is incredibly valuable and I’m happy you know that through us. Thank you Chris, and Long live Pal2Tech!!!

I need this for especially product videos like ETSY videos not complicated and the camera will be on the top standing still and on the table I will show the products with my hand moving toward the camera sometimes so the focus should be good. Many suggest iphone pro but I also want to replace my old setup for photography ( I use nikon D90 but a good lens ). My concern is the focus capabilities and low light performance. Would you suggest this camera?

I cannot express how pleased I am to hear you say "I bought this myself with my own money" rather than "Full disclosure: this is a review copy, but Fuji has had no say in the this review, yadda yadda". Yes, disclosure is good, but I think the GOLD standard for editorial integrity is total independence. Even when you have not taken money from a company, even when they have no direct say in a review, they and you both know that there is a long-term relationship at stake, and if you were to say something truly negative, that future access to early releases, review units, launch parties, swag, etc, could be curtailed. I know buying your own gear is expensive, but I hope you will transition to that being the default for ALL reviews in the future. It's difficult to cover an industry or company without engaging that industry or company directly, but I think it's important and valuable.

Even if you buy the product, you will still refrain from negative comments as much if you are influenced by the manufacturer (e.g on going relationship or future relationship)

I bought the XT5 about a month ago and i love it! I was a Canon shooter a while back and drifted away from digital cameras to taking pictures with iPhones. With the XT5, I went back to what got me to photography in the first place, the enjoyment of the process and the art of taking pictures. Your review confirmed that I made the right decision going with Fuji and with XT5. Thanks for bringing so much useful content.

I just wanted to say: I have upgraded from Nikon D5600 to Fuji XT5 exactly because of yours detailed reviews, lessons, and other videos. And I am really happy with this new camera. I saved money for a very long time (in my region salary is near 200-250$ per month, and camera costs 1.6-1.8 price higher than recommended price because of taxes), I even eat much lesser. But now, having it, using it, just holding this gem of tech in my hands, it's making me really little more happier for my entire life. So, thank you very much! And thank exactly, EXACTLY you! =)

The XT5 is my first camera with IBIS and honestly im amazed. After getting back into the hobby after a few years off i couldn't believe how far we've come with stabilization. Leaning the camera against something (in this case, a railing) allowed me to take exposures up to 1.5s long that are pin sharp. It blew my mind compared to my old Canon 7D Mk1.

I have had my Fujifilm XT5 now for about 3 1/2 months, and I absolutely love love this camera. I did a Calendar last year of my landscape photography and I was able to purchase an extra five with the profits that I made from my calendar and it's been a game changer for me. I couldn't imagine me going back to my full frame Nikon D850. There are so many benefits with using a smaller camera, and I really love the Fujifilm colour science in the XT5. It's an epic camera it really is. I cannot fault it to be honest and I've done just about everything with it from shooting a wedding to landscapes to Street Photography you name and I've done it all. And it passed with flying colours.

Wow! That was worth waiting for Chris. What a lot of info you managed to pack into a short video. Thanks so much for all the work this must have involved. It just proves the value of my $$ support for your channel (hint hint everyone!). In particular, the info about making the best use of the autofocus was very helpful because - as you know - some of the early reviewers found the autofocus a bit unreliable. Like you, I've had the problem of the focus box telling me I had something in focus when it actually wasn't, but from what you say it could well have been user error. I look forward to your future vids about that and the other detailed functions of this amazing camera. Thanks again.

Worth the wait for your 6-month review. Very well done as usual! I have been a Fujifilm X-series shooter since 2019 started as my entry into mirrorless cameras from a long-time Canon shooter. I was not too fond of the original mirrorless offerings from Canon and the fact that the 5D Mark IVs and lenses were pushing my weight limits in my kit, especially for travel. So I purchased an X-T100 for my wife and an X-T2 for myself. Within a year I was selling off my Canon gear and moving head-on into the Fuji system. Bought an X-T4 around 2021 and now the X-T5 just a few months ago. Needless to say, I have not sold or traded any of my original gear. Also, that said, recently I had the real-world opportunity to put the newly acquired X-T5 through its paces with several genres of shooting that I do on a regular basis. aviation and motorsports racing. I was one of the official photographers at the Sun-N-Fun airshow in Lakeland Florida and shot for 6 days during the whole event. Then I spent several days shooting the SCCA races at Daytona International Speedway. My take on the X-T5 performance is in exact line with what you described in this review. The autofocus is much improved over the previous X-series cameras. The new Subject Detection system (for Planes and Cars) did a decent job for the most part. I would find that it picked up the subject about 85% of the time. When it struggled I felt it was because of multiple subjects close in relation to each other, especially in the auto races. With the planes, it was the contrasting backgrounds that gave it an issue and a few times it falsely ID'd other subjects as if they were planes, like a large truck on the flight line while planes were taxiing. The AF was responsive enough for the high speed of the jets and the race cars, but out of the burst (MS 15/FPS) I would get some sharp images and then it would lose sharp focus to the point of the image not being really acceptable. I was shooting both events with the XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens. I have to add to this and say it is not always the camera that is at fault for subpar images it is the photographers' ability to run the equipment to properly achieve the best results, focusing in this case. I know that some of the failures in my images were caused by myself so there is that factor that needs to be considered by all of us when we shoot. I look forward to more of your reviews of the X-T5 platform!

Thanks very much Chris. Most of what I know about how to get the best out of my XT-2 is down to your gifts as a communicator and teacher. As soon as the XT-5 arrived in Australia I grabbed it, expecting to love the IBIS and the big advances in AF. The IBIS is astonishing, but I’ve had nagging AF problems, and when I started seeing chatter about AF shortcomings from other XT-5 users I wondered if I’d made the right call. Your review gives me confidence that most of my issues can be fixed with a deeper knowledge of how the system works … looking forward to your follow-up tutorials!

Everything I wanted in the X-T4 (with the exception of the option to have the shutter close while changing lenses) I got with the X-T5.

I'm not dinging you on your preference (silver vs. black) by any means, because I prefer it as well, but sparkes a thought I've had for several years now..... Back in the day (early 70's) consumer cameras were silver/black and pro cameras were all black. I can't tell you how much I wish I had the extra $$$ for an all black Minolta SRT-102 compared to the silver model as it was a few points up on the status scale to have an all-black-perceived-as-pro-camera (the price difference was about $40 extra for all black). I had stretched my budget far enough though, and settled for the silver version. In the digital world I love the chrome versions because they harken back to a time from decades past, where most cameras were silver/black, enhancing a nostalgic memory, while at the same time reflecting about how perceptions and the "cool" factor flip-flop. Long live FUJI, and thanks Daniel, for prompting this thought 👍

The lettering on the dials is easier to see in black! Much more contrast than the silver.

As an ex sony/nikon shooter you have chosen wisely. I got the same one in black and love it.

@@thestonerguy5276 that’s really insightful, thanks for sharing! It was only yesterday that my wife was talking about the odd cyclical nature of what’s trendy/fashionable. It seems this applies to cameras, too!

If you'd like for your camera to have a retro look, there is always the non-destructive option of camera skins! see them as a screenprotector but for your camera body. There's retro wraps out there for the xt-5 that make it look retro!

Great review Chris! I like the way you laid out separate recommendations depending on the user’s preferences around what and how they photograph. It’s not, and never was, a one-size fits all. Never mind simple user preferences. Thanks!

Wow, great review Chris. I’ve just recently purchased a mint X-T4 after hesitating whether or not to wait and shell out more for the X-T5 but you’ve confirmed that I made the right decision.

Thank you for an excellent review and, of course, validation of my choice of camera (X-T5). Looking forward to your upcoming instructional/s for the T5 and hopefully some more flash tips as well.

Detailled and great review as ever, didn't expect less from you. I bought a X-T3 just last year and i probally will not be interested in a new body for at lest 3, maybe 5 years, i still enjoy and watch every single one of your videos, just because i like your entertaining and educative style. Came to this channel for learning about the X-T3, stayed because of who you are. And you kept HAL9000 even after remaking your studio, that's about 2001 extra points in my book. I guess that's enough of a praise for today lol Greetings from Luxembourg.

@@andrius_magic Same here. I have the T3 & T4. I don’t know what Fuji could do to make me upgrade to the T5 or T6. There was a Craigslist H2 selling for the same price as a T5. Really good deal. I wasn’t interested. Right now the T3 & T4 are good enough for me. Not in the market for new gear. In two years who knows. The T5 is a wonderful camera. It isn’t so much more wonderful than the gear I own now. I am in the good enough is good enough place right now. It was worth the wait for your this review of the T5 Chris. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

Thanks for this Chris - it matches my experience 100%. Coming from an X-T3 I upgraded to an X-H2 and then when the X-T5 came out I grabbed one as well. Makes me pretty deep into Fuji! Over the last 6 or so months I've settled into a pattern. The X-H2 is my bird photography goto camera. It gets a HUGE amount of use as I've made a point of going out every day and taking shots. Fitted with the 150-600mm zoom it delivers. Sure the autofocus struggles in low light but I don't think you can expect too much more. The ability to crop right in plus the dynamic range make new photo opportunities possible. The X-T5 is my family camera. Our pets, family and friends all shine (with the 56mm F1.2) and with IBIS being able to shoot at low shutter indoors is fantastic. In terms of ergonomics with the big lens the bigger hand grip is better. I also find myself preferring the PASM dial (shock) - those custom settings on a dial are magic. One set for auto-focus one set for manual focus with birds on the first 2 and people on the second 2. One flick of the dial and I'm immediately where I need to be. Both cameras are great - the best? well that depends on what you do!

I bought a x-t30 back in 2019 as my first camera. Love the image quality and the feel in my hand( I bought a larger grip). The small battery life, lack of weather resistance, improved auto focus and ibis have been reasons for me wanting to upgrade. Regardless, I have been sitting on the fence since from other reviews I’ve seen have stated very little difference in image quality (x-t3 vs x-t5). Thank you for helping me make my mind up.

Second to none. You are the gold standard for this brand. I saw alot of reviews that were published the day it was released from guys who used it for a few weeks. They all felt like commercials. This is the only review I was waiting for. Thanks for all you do.
