As i said at comments in other video, i think full frame will kill the apsc sensors in terms of professional use and desirability, so the apsc sensors market will shrink. The Sony A7SIII Is an example of a well done hybrid video camera. Maybe the medium format will regain traction too (new mounts maybe, More money to the brands). Now the big brands have the technology to make big sensors price and features competitive (stabilization, frames per second, less heat, more processing power, etc)
As I responded in the other video, that depends entirely on the commitment of the companies making APS-C cameras. Full frame sensor still causes some issues in hybrid cameras (as we can see with R5 and R6), so APS-C can capitalize on that, by providing reliable unlimited downsampled 4K+ 60p+ video... A7S III is mostly video camera, not very hybrid.
@@amermeleitor at 12 Megapixels the A7SIII would have a tough time competing with smartphone cameras in the photography space. The A7SIII isn't being positioned as a hybrid camera, mainly video camera that can also take the pic for your RU-vid thumbnail.

really I think there's no point of comparison de sony is a full frame beast capable of 4k 120fps and records at 4:2:2 the fuji is awesome too but is half the price I think right now there's nothing below the 8 thousands dollars that compares to the Sony

Great comparison! Considering that the X-T4 was released just this year and the GH5 is over 3 years old now, it’s impressive how well the GH5 has held up against the competition until now. But it’s definitely been a while, I would love to see a GH6 sometime soon.
This comparision is just perfect. Very complete and well done. I only miss a comparision of the stabilization performance while walking with the cameras. I think gh5 is better but I wanted to see if the xt4 with the 16-80 f4 is good enough because I am thinking of buying this combination over the gh5 with 12-35 f2.8
Moved from GH5 to EOS RP in prep for R6. I did not realize how much size/weight makes a difference, so looking at the XT-4 now. The lens selection and ergonomics make me think twice. The day Fuiji comes out with a 16-55 f/2 lens is the day I will seriously consider a switch!
The Wonderland Show I had a GH4 and then added the GH5 (all the while adding to my lens collection) then last year I sold the GH4 and that funded half of the new G9 (such a bargain). I clearly have no interest in jumping ship any time soon!

I am a GH5 user and I would like to switch for xt4 or sony A7III (only video interest me) but I'm not sure which one could be the best in my usecase : corporate work, weddings, sports... So, basically a very versatile camera. - What I like or use the most with my GH5 : IBIS (I'm most of the time an handheld shooter), many video modes (inc. 4K60), battery life, great ergonomy... - What I miss : a useable AF, better colors (but maybe I'm not good enough in color grading : using "natural" everytime), better low light capabilities I own 18-35 and 50-100 sigma ART. So, that could make a difference in my choice if AF is working good with xt4 ? IBIS seems ok on xt4 since last update. I could change everything for sony as they have the best AF and a FF sensor for better low light performance, or the difference with xt4 on that is not that big ? Could you please advise me based on your experience and tests ? Thanks again

Great review! Good info. I have been comparing these cameras for awhile now. The biggest thing holding be back from the xt4 is the over heating - has anyone had a problem with this? Is it as bad as some of the reviews I see? I plan on shooting outdoors in summer heat. Thanks
I don't want forward facing mechanism at all, Fuji X-T3 screen is the best solution for me personally. If necessary, Sony A6600 type screen is the best forward facing.
2:34 fuji always have pure black in shadows. In photo and video. How to overcome that? Bring the shadows up doesnt really beat the Gh5 shadow recovery.
Going to keep my X-T20 for longer, really need that weather sealing, tempting to get X-T3 used for under 1k. But maybe X-T4 will be under 1k $ in a year or two, maybe not, it seems like a lot of fuji shooters tend to keep their cameras for longer as there is no difference in image quality, ofc video capabilities are way better on T4, but majority do only photos, 5 axis stabilization is great, but is fine to use brighter lens and no body stabilization with higher shutter speed.
Hey man, This is a fantastic comparison - the two cameras I'm considering now; saw your detailed review of the XT-4, which was similarly incredible. The XT-4 seems to be the best bet, but in terms of the recording limit: after you get to that limit, can you just stop recording and restart, or do you have to give it time to 'cool down'?
I recently bought a Nikon Z50 by the recommendation of a camera store owner. I do RU-vid fishing stuff to where I usually use GoPros on the water but the Nikon Z50 was for DIY fishing projects and I have found it is really subpar for video. I really want the Sony A7Siii but it's a little out of my range. I'm thinking of getting the Fuji X-T4. Is that the best camera in this range just for video? I would be doing some vlogging and some run and gun style stuff. Thank you. Very good video, mate!
Yes, it probably is, although A7 III might be more suitable for that type of videos. Store owner will probably always recommend you product with the highest sellers margin, so asking them is not a good idea.

23mm F2 is the best focusing lens that I have tested with X-T4. 50mm F2 is optically excellent, the AF is also good, but not quite as good as with 23mm.
Excellent comparative video. But the XT4 has a significant heat issue, which is also now evident in the Canon R5. It shows that for long term 4K usage, the GH5 is the most reliable tool at the moment. But that's only a factor for those doing hours of footage. Anyone just doing a few minutes, will be fine.
@@TheHybridShooter what is odd though, is that Fuji and Canon and Sony all have overheating cameras when using 4K continuously, and Canon in particular, did not include any cooling, as it made the camera too bulky. That's an engineering decision, that might be regretted. Panasonic's total design ethic includes cooling. Will people choose to have 8K or even 6K for a few minutes or seconds, or full 4K with no time limit? It will come down to user needs.
4k unlimited even in summers direct sunlight and rain. My gh5 is staying put. I have a sony a7r3 and gm 2.8 trinity that I use to get stills and small 4k clips from different angles and whatnot. The subject separation of FF couples with the low ligh capacity nicely for images. But for 4k video the gh5 and sigma 18-35 1.8 is perfect for my use cases. 1-3 hours of 4k record time mandatory.
@@gimiked8685 Is manual focus with the GH5 and Sigma 18-35 easy to learn? I only have a DSLR so there's no peaking and I can't do manual focus at all. Wondering if it's worthwhile to get m43 and manual focus or buy the A7S3
I'm happy that Fuji is getting this good. It's good for everyone, because it's forcing innovation. Keeping in mind the GH5 was three years ahead of this, Panasonic should be able to respond with their own entry, if the GH6 ever gets released, and should keep driving competition further still. I'm not an engineer, so I can't even begin to say what they can actually fit into a M43 body, but maybe like unlimited 6k recording? Better IBIS? Maybe give it dual native ISO like the gh5s? Upgrade the card slots? Maybe it's not even possible.
I am expecting a GH6 soon though. Camera's are finally catching on to a 3.5 year old gh5. I love my 10-25mm lens and don't want to distance myself from it 😁
@@TheHybridShooter Remember Z-CAM E6? A m43 camera which can shoot 4k 160fps 10bit. It has the same sensor with GH5s (I'm not completely sure), 41MP quad bayer which can enable a WDR mode of 16 stops dynamic range.
@@waynecake5867 Z-CAM is completely different type of camera, I don't think that they make "E6". If you mean E2, that is not GH5S sensor, and applying that kind of technology to mirrorless camera is a whole different story. Sony definitely won't give 3rd parties Quad bayer sensor for mirrorless cameras before they use it first.
I've been looking for something that has a better dim light capability than the gh5, but with the same video features and fully articulating screen. I love to do outdoor videos in the woods and of sunsets. I live in an area with very diverse seasons, so I need the camera to be very durable and handle freezing temperatures. I've been looking at the Sony A7 iii, Fuji x-T4, and GH5, but they all seem to lack a feature I'm looking for. Thoughts?
My gh5 footage when in 4k 60 is impossible to edit always video lags, I have rx 5500m ryxen 5 5600h, 32 gigs ram. Is it my laptop no powerful enough or I am doing something wrong?. Also could u give me best gh5 settings for video
Panasonic's codes are not very editing friendly, you probably need more powerful hardware to edit GH5 4K 60p. There are not best settings, everything depends on the specific situation.
I appreciate your videos, they are always informative and clear cut. I am surprised you award Fuji as the winner when you place Panasonic with best handling and UI. In a close race I would give more value to UI and handling, at least that is why I use the cameras I do. Also, you reference the better IQ of Fuji when printing but that would only matter to users that are printing - which are probably high end video shooters. Thanks again.
Thank you! A lot of users prefer Fuji handling because of the dedicated dials and stills / video switch is a huge benefit for hybrid use. Printing reference is only for resolution. Superior DR and ISO performance matter for both digital publishing and printing. UI is better on Panasonic, but it is not enough to compensate for the areas where the X-T4 beats GH5. I don't think that it is a close race, X-T4 is pretty clear winner, as I have explained towards the end.
I really think the Fujifilm X-T4 is a better investment, with Olympus being sold m43 might not get as many new cameras or lens and Panasonic releasing ff cameras... might make m43 a not such a good investment longterm, i still like a lot m43 and the lens options out there is a pretty solid, but with sony and fuji catching up, i feel m43 as times goes by will be abandon.
I'm not sure... Fuji has some nice lenses but the problem is that most of their fast 1.4 primes have outdated focus motors and no weather sealing. Tele lenses are few and they are still much bigger and heavier than m43. I think micro43 should concentrate on smaller fully featured bodies instead of going big like with the G9 ( which I have and really like by the way). Also, and that is very personal, I don't like shooting Fuji cameras. I've tried, but I'm just not a fan of the ergonomics. Not to mention the weird x trans sensor, which doesn't do well with foliage and landscapes.
@Jean V There is absolutely nothing weird about X-Trans 4 sensor, it is much better for landscapes than M43 thanks to that dynamic range. Fuji will be releasing a couple of version II lenses soon. Telephoto lenses are roughly are the same size for every system, depending on full frame equivalency. They also have very small F2 primes and small zooms such as 18-55, so there is a choice.
@@TheHybridShooter well, I am a pixel peeper, and I don't like Fuji's output. I'm probably one of the rare that is not fond of their colors either. Good to hear that about their primes. The f2 versions are nice but only equivalent to f2.8 in FF. As a committed m43 shooter, I don't see the point of jumping on aps-c with f2 primes. That's why I recently got a A7III to complement my m43 system 🙂.
I'm sorry, but I am obviously a pixel peeper as well, and there is just nothing to be found there. If you are not fond of Fuji colors, you probably won't like output of your A7 III either because those very similar. It is OK that Fuji is not your favorite brand, but there is no need to justify it this way.
Fuji is really a very interesting camera. In my case, however, I see no reason to migrate from GH5 (and GH4R as B Camera) to Fuji. Furthermore, I find the GH5's longevity and vitality truly impressive! I am waiting for the launch of the new GH6.
Someone suggested USB Charging is bad for the camera electronic board when the charger is plugged into the wall because an electric surge can destroy the camera. So it is best suggested to charge the battery separately.
@@TheHybridShooter An electric surge would destroy the charger and the camera no matter what. I has nothing to do with the quality of the charger. Just charge the battery separately so that way the camera is safe. This is the biggest complaint against Fujifilm. In the past, they always had a separate charger included with the camera but now it is sold as an option. If there is an electric surge while the battery is charging separately on the charger than the battery is no good and the camera is safe. Just buy a new charger and battery without worrying about buying a new camera.
is it just me that on Video of XT4 looks bit blunt than GH5 ? in Videos of XT4, seems like a bit smoother and not that sharp. Gh5 looks more Sharper. but other than that XT4 is better. why...??? I was thinking to buy XT4.. but.. i feel like image of Sony A7iii and GH5 is more sharper 😤😧 I am watching this on my 43inch 4k Monitor, so definitely I can see the differences !
GH5 video looks sharper but not in a good way. It is possible to just increase sharpening on X-T4, but softer "filmic" large sensor look is generally more desirable. GH5 is always oversharpened, even with sharpening set to -5 so it looks more digital.
How are the results when you match Fuji’s darker exposure to the Gh5? I shoot both Fuji and M43 and I don’t find any significant difference in IQ until you approach the iso 6400 mark.
There is very little difference in exposure. GH5 is also a lot darker than Sony with the same settings, so it is 1.25 EV including exposure difference. Visible difference depends on the DR of the scene.
@@TheHybridShooter My bad. 2:27 x-t4 is at iso 3200 at 1/8s and GH5 is at iso 1600 1/4s so technically same exposure value on both cameras, however X-T4 looks darker.
@@FotosyMas. I don't think so, it may be caused by different angle. I also haven't used downsampling, which would make the difference even larger, so as I have said, the difference is at least 1.25 EV.
Can any camera experts help me here are my options Xt4, gh5, g9, blackmagic 4k, A7s iii I'm looking to use them for all around Videography, like car broll, real estate video, basically a good broll camera with possibly vlogging and photo features. I know the Sony is too expensive for me but would he a great perfect option. Xt4 was solid untill I saw its stabilisation which is terrible. Black magic is a beast but lack autofocus which might be annoying (but I would in the futurebuy a vlogging camera and have a good video camera that doesn't need autofocus, so blackgamic might be a good idea) G9 has decent autofocus, good quality, great stabilisation and pretty good video features. Gh5 has unlimited recording, older and not as good sensor, worse autofocus, good stabilisation aswell. I need help because I can't decide! Hopefully somone can help. (if I'm gonna get a Xt4 the blackmagic is cheaper and is a much better option so I don't think I want the Xt4)

What's your experience with the Xt4 stabilisation, I can't remember if in your video you showed how bad it was. I'm currently thinking of the g9 because it's got the stabilisation, good build quailty, decent af for paansonic, 4k 10bit unlike Sony 😁 and 6k. And for the price of the Xt4 which is more expensive than the pocket 4k,doesn't seem like a better option to me.
Considering the age of the GH5, its such an amazing cam and even by now it does not really get beaten by cameras at its price point. With the g9 being under 1k and the Fuji over 1.7k, Panasonic still offers much more for the price and Fuji lenses are also more expensive which is just as important as the body price. If there will be a GH6 soon, it will ofc be the best cam under 2k and hopefully offer 6k60 and 4k 120 and dual ISO.
I don't completely agree with that. I think that the X-T4 is worth the extra money. It has much better sensor, better video and with the latest FW much better AF, so the price difference is justified. Even over G9. It would also be very difficult to make GH6 competitive, now that the cameras with larger sensor surpassed M43 in video specs.
@@TheHybridShooter although technically it has a better sensor, I don't see much of a quality difference between both other than in lowlight... the af for sure is better, but video users mostly use MF anyways and the gh5 af is sufficient enough for most poeple imo. I don't agree that it has surpassed the gh5 is video specs by much, the gh5 has full sensor 4k 60 which doesn't but its has 10 bit instead. thats nor surpassing imo, just a difference to be considered. And since both record the same quality externally, I dont see many advantages over the gh5 other than in af and the sensor itself. While there are still handling and lens disadvantages which are also very important. So for a 3 year newer cam, it still is not a clear winner at all and that's impressive imo
I see a big difference in video quality, X-T4 just looks a lot less digital, I also much prefer Fuji colors. Eterna may be the biggest real-world advantage of X-T4 for me. 4K 60 crop on X-T4 is just minor. X-T4 can also shoot in h.265 and it shoots DCI, so it clearly surpasses GH5 IMO. I actually have a lot of interesting lenses for X-T4 and the Sigma 18-35 works much better on X-T4 with adapter, so I wouldn't say that M43 have clear lens advantage. All things considered it is still a clear win for X-T4. Unfortunately, GH5 is still the newest GH camera, so it's age doesn't make the situation better or worse...

Other reviewers reported X-T4 overheating. Other reviewers also pointed out, that X-T4 has very rough brightness adjustments, done in obvious steps, if Auto ISO is active. And also reported that the Fuju lenses, apparently designed for photography not video, try to focus during zooming, even with AF-C switched off, which creates an ugly 'pulsing' of the footage. Does that take AF out of the equation with zoom lenses?... All these seem like really important things for anyone who would consider that camera for something more than recreational video. When you add the Panasonic has things like waveforms, which a lot of professionals prefer for measuring exposure, also has no record time limits, and also has a neat adapter to take sound directly form XLR microphones, I have hard time seeing a lot of people preferring the Fuji for professional work.
If you mean automatic exposure adjustments in video, that was fixed in FW 1.03. The whole overheating "issue" is blown out of proportions, and mostly used for click-bait titles on RU-vid. It only overheats in 4K 60p on very hot day. I have never seen warning indicator during reasonable usage. Most Fuji lenses are not parfocal, but you can use AF with zoom lenses in video of course. The case can be made both ways... somebody may have hard time seeing a lot of people preferring the Panasonic for professional work because of the low-light, AF or colors. As I have explained everything depends on the preferences.
Fuji looks to be a lot better than I thought, but I'd still bet the IBIS can't beat the IS LOCK feature of the GH5. I'm routing for the GH6. They have to annoucne something soon or many will flock to Sony.
You you would be surprised, Boos IS on Fuji is excellent after the last update. I don't expect GH6 to be announced soon, and there is no new M43 sensor available, so my hopes are pretty low.
regarding the Fuji 16-55 f2.8, having handled one, I'll say it is so big and heavy that it actually turns the lighter weight of the XT4 body into a liability, because when mounted, the centre of gravity of your camera shifts so far forward that it's difficult to hold especially if you are doing run and gun style photography. In fact I even believe the lens slightly outweighs the panasonic 10-25 f1.7, the lens which is considered massive by micro 4/3 standards But with that being said i do feel that micro 4/3 has stagnated too much in the sensor department. The sensor should have been the #1 thing improved on to tackle the low light weakness with new innovations like backside illumination.
All I can say is that an innovative company like Fuji can come up with all latest features & make XT4, but it still is just a notch ahead of GH5, what a marvel to know this !
I don't think that it is just a notch ahead. In one generation, Fuji was able to surpass feature set of the best hybrid M43 camera, whilst using more demanding APS-C sensor in same size body and almost at the same price point. That is very impressive from Fuji IMO.
The GH5 looked like it won the dynamic range test because the Fuji looked even darker. I think the noise levels wouldnt be far off once those shadows are as light as the GH5's were and this echoes what I have heard about Fuji's approach to ISO. In noise tests it's about a one stop difference which is to be expected but the XT4 is much newer so not that great a result. I have also seen how bad the XT4 autofocus and stabilisation can be from samples so for the money I think the GH5 is the better buy. I say this as someone that looked into Fuji and decided against. Other people's opinions are valid but don't affect me.
No, it didn't. GH5 actually had advantage by being lighter, which is just a matter of exposure, and it sill showed a lot more noise. The noise is far off, and that is without using downsampling advantage and exporting both pictures at the same size. I have tested the camera myself, so I don't care what you have seen in other reviews. As you can see in this video, AF and IBIS on X-T4 are very good. I think that you mainly say that as someone who uses M43, not as someone who looked into Fuji.
@@TheHybridShooter No other camera was capable of recording internal 4K 10bit in such a small body in 2017. It literally brought 10bit to the masses. Sure, in terms of lowlight IQ and autofocus it was behind what the competition was, but in terms of recording formats and codecs, IBIS, all the video assist tools, no other camera touched it. I don't think the S1H, while a great camera, is as groundbreaking as the GH5 was. Mainly due to the price, placing it way above what most people can and want to pay for a mirrorless camera.
The X-T4 beats the GH5 only for an amateur who doesn't actually use it for anything beyond YT length clips. It's pro grade (for smaller sensors) only as a stills-first camera.
Clear paid preferance. the gh5 is a 200 year old platform used by only 99.9999% of you tube & professional users The brand new 2020 xt4 costs twice as much as the gh5...Fuji like Sony has rotten ibis..but Sony has great autofocus in low light.....Fuji is a bit better than the gh5 at night but not by much... Fuji has rotten lenses no auto focus poor choise ...if m34 is over go with sony
