My deepest apologies to the people who were watching me from across the park while I was filming myself repeatedly spitting water out. Trust me -- I was as mortified as you were.
Couldn't agree more with you!! There is something definitely special about the "look" of these Fuji cameras, they are simply beautiful! Let alone the color science and film simulations! I am myself in the process of making the leap from Sony to Fuji so thank you for comforting me in my choice!
I did the same here, I had an R6, and an R. Traded the R for an X-T4 thinking that it would be a better backup as the spec was so similar to R6 other than the sensor size. It was so much lighter, and had better video control, so I found myself reaching for the X-T4 and hardly using the R6. I ended up selling the R6 and all my canon lenses to get the X-H2s. Full Fuji boi now.. and coulndt be more happy. Sooooo much fun.
@@carlosr.2027 it's all up to you how you are going to use it, is it the best camera .... for you, for me not really I do require weather proofing to my camera to protect it from difficult weather condition and yes the classic look of x-t4 and x-t5 is love at first ....
I don't think your reasons were silly at all. I used to have xt4 which I switched to eos r and now have debated for the past few months to switch back to Fuji. Mayde trying xpro3? The reason I originally switched to eos r was 1. Fuji RAW incompatible issues with adobe 2. Eos r is full frame. But now I have missed and craved the FEELING and the EXPERIENCE of the Fuji. The total Fuji (so to speak) ecosystem of shooting is just more inspiring to me. I enjoy that the jpegs looks amazing and need just a little retouch if anything. Also I haven't even needed to shoot RAW that much. Fuji jpg's are so dense that they hold well when edited as long as it's not anything hard core. I also prefer make the lighting etc. decisions in advance. I don't particularly enjoy the endless opportunities when you can almost lit the photo afterwards with modern RAW files. I enjoy it when you NEED to make the decisions before hand and I also truly believe it makes you actually a better photographer. My debate with canon/fuji is still on the way, so will see what happens xD
Literally me when falling in love with Sony's A7 line and researching for a year before going for my Fuji XT30 haha. I shot with my friend's XT20 and instantly realized I can get WAAAY more bang for my buck with VERY similar IQ and solid video with Fuji. Every point you made I couldn't have said better myself. It stands out, it's ergonomic, they keep their OG "film feel", and their X-Trans sensor is SO GENIUS!!! Fuji all the way. Their prices are unmatched for the quality they give.
I've never heard Sony shooters get nostalgic and excited when they talk about or shoot with their gear. It's just a tool, a choice made because it didn't require a lot of anguish or worry, a path of least resistance. Or maybe because they're not prepared to justify buying outside that box to others, because they fall into the specs-that-I-don't-need-but-want-to-feel-proud-of camp. But like you, and many others, the experience and results with Fuji inspired us to enjoy the process again, and shoot more. Which only increases our chances of creating something great.
This was well said. I knew what I was getting into, going to Sony. But I can’t particularly say it was “inspiring” me. It’s really hard to describe, but once you’re in the Fuji ecosystem, it really just makes you want to create and brings a lot of the old fashioned fun back into the art. Thanks for watching 🙏
Went from Canon 5dmkiv to Sony a7sii to Fuji XT4 specifically for the same reasons and never looked back. As far as AF goes, the lens you're using makes a HUGE difference with Fuji.
Quite the journey! And absolutely -- I do notice on some lenses, they seem to focus hunt far more than others. But AF in general is getting better with Fuji, so I expect it to be a non-issue not too long from now.
You made the right choice! Have a story for you : I was a canon shooter (dlsr), I decided to buy a XT3 for my pro work. Then I decided to go for the A7III given all the hype it gets, and sold my beloved XT3. I was REALLY disappointed! Didn't like the way it felt in hands, did a wedding shoot with both camera side by side, and see no difference (apart for the DOF, obviously). I decided to sell the A7III and buy another XT3! The autofocus for photos is very good, the only problem is the video AF, when set at multi zone / wide, the system is not as clever as the sony or canon cameras. I have the solution for you : if you set an autofocus box (single point) on your subject, you'll never lose autofocus! Cheers fuji mate lol
That’s crazy! Sometimes you’ve got to figure it out the hard way, but I’m glad you came back around! 😂 As far as AF for video, I’m with you! I use AF-C and a single box and track using that and it’s been pretty reliable. Thanks for sharing, and for watching! ✌️
@@Kadehr The issue with fuji is that it still has a bit of pulsating when finding focus. Doubt that videographers using fuji are hardcore manual mode film makers.
@@X99Zero definitely depends on the lens you are using and the settings in camera. Pair your xt3 with a sigma 18-35 for example, and you'll see it's a match made in heaven
I basically had the same experience shopping when I ended up buy a barely used XT-3, with a lens, non battery grip, extra batteries and all in the original boxes.. I don't shoot video with a mirrorless, so the XT-4 wasn't necessary. I love the images I get from the XT-3 and also am a fan of the dials. I don't think you can beat the quality for the money.
Own the X-T4 along with 18mm f1.4, 35mm f2, Tamron 17-70 f2.8, but I'm keen to buy a Sony for the full frame look. Pretty much just waiting for a new Sigma 28mm f1.4 or a Sony 28mm GM to appear. However, Fuji has been far more enjoyable than I ever thought it would be. The ability to edit raws in-camera is absolutely amazing. I can edit photos on the spot, send them to my phone to post on stories. I did compare the Fuji against the A7R4 and 35mm GM but found that I much preferred the ergonomics and workflow of Fuji. I'm happy knowing that I can come back from a vacation, tweak exposure, and export a final copy of images that have a unified look, rather than spend days editing to ensure a consistent look for my memories.
Exactly this. For personal photos with the family, daily documentation, etc., it's so much easier and faster for me to edit in camera and send them over to my phone to be shared right away. The work flow is so much easier, and the photos tend to just have a natural feel to them that doesn't feel over-edited. Thanks for watching!
I have both of these cameras. They are both fantastic in there own way. The xt4 has much better ibis, less 4k60 crop, 1080p 240, nicer color, no cfexpress needed, much less rolling shutter and costs $800 less. The a7iv has better autofocus, no record limit, a more comfortable body and a bit more dynamic range. It's a tough pick.
Most definitely. There’s pros and cons to both - it’s just a matter of deciding which set of cons you’re willing to work around. That dynamic range was something I knew I’d be missing out on! 😅
My man Christopher, I really enjoy you videos and content, always educative, entertaining and beautifully done. I’m a Sony a7r4 and a6600 shooter mostly stills and my 2 non Sony are a Leica and a Ricoh GRIII. But lately I’ve been getting the itch of getting a Fuji camera, X100V to be precise ( if I could only find one ). And the reason is cuz I, like you, miss the feeling of my film cameras and like Fuji film simulation factor. Anyway, keep up the good and inspirational work. ✌🏻
Thanks, Raul! I appreciate that. What Leica do your shoot? I recently did an X100V video, if you haven’t checked it out yet! Cheers, man. Best of luck to you finding an X100V! 🙏✌️
Why do some photographers always feel the need to "switch"? Do you only eat one flavor of ice cream? Do guitarists only own one brand of guitar? I currently have two Canon cameras, a Sony camera and an Olympus camera and may add a Fuji, as Ive owned several in the past. They all offer something unique. Pretty sad to limit yourself to just one brand...
Ahhh I love that it was the fuji you picked! I love fuji cameras because of how it looks & the vintage vibes in the photos. It really connects me to why I fell in love with photography when I was a kid. Love this video dude, thank you!
Thanks so much, Paula! I'm stoked this resonated with you. The looks are one thing, for sure, but sometimes it's hard to capture a "feeling," and I think Fuji does that for me -- and it evidently does that for you too. :)
I’ve wanted an XT4 for so long 😢 but I’ve invested so much in Canon. I have 2 EOS R’s. I just love the colors and the ease of use. I’m also afraid it’s gonna change the way my photos change in look on my website. I know those are stupid excuses but the main reason is money. I would have to start all over again. Anyway beautiful video bro. If I could do it all over again Fuji XT4 is EXACTLY what I would have gone with too!
Hey Luis! I don't know why YT flagged this for review, but I just noticed it now, so I apologize! I totally feel you on this. I was a Canon shooter for so long, and was pretty decently invested in the system, so money was also a REALLY big concern for me when I started to seriously consider switching. I ultimately knew that if I didn't do it, though, my passion for actually doing anything was going to continue waning, so the cost offset the possibility of me not having fun doing what I love. I truly don't have ANY regrets, and wish I had done so sooner. I think you can find a way to get your colors and look consistent if you shoot RAW, but I understand the hesitation! Anyways, thanks for watching, dude! Best of luck!
I'm still good with the A7iii, but i def agree with your decision, Fuji is killing the aesthetic. And they provide awesome support. I've been considering picking up the Panasonic S5 to check the 6k 12bit. I also just ordered for eos M to set up with the magic lantern and check out some super 16 fun
Used to shoot with xt3 and i loved it, my friends called me fuji-guy cause i was so into that. The ergonomics, the fuji experiecne the size of f/2 lenses, the film simulations. But i am a hobbist not a professional. So watching all these weird choices on lenses, prices of fuji lenses(1000 euros for an old 56 f1.2? when i can have 16-30-56 f1.4 on sigma?), the bad afc ( i do street so the afc was a little something for my style) , the bad sigma lenses which i was waiting for so long made me leave those behind and move to sony a6400. And to be honest i wished i have changed a long time before.
I had a Sony 3N and Canon T2i/m50 and eventually went on to buy Fuji X-S10. I felt excited using the film simulations and reading up about film recipes. I also have a Canon AE-1 and AT-1 film cameras so having the Fuji camera to do film simulations was nostalgic.
A delightfully honest video. I've been using Fujifilm since 2017. I have the X-T4 and a suite of great glass. But after making the mistake of checking all of the videos out on the superior AF and image quality of the A7IV, it had me questioning whether it was time to switch or not as I do shoot semi-professionally. This was a good perspective that reminded me of the things I've always liked about Fujifilm and that it's not JUST about the raw specs. The user experience is a major part of it; I love the manual controls, the menu layout, the lens selection. The system does inspire me to get out and shoot more, just for the pleasure of it. I also like the output in terms of color and detail and already know how to get the look I want from the files. Starting fresh with a new brand would be annoying - and expensive. Plus, the Fuji kit really DOES look good. I like showing up to photography meetups and events as the lone Fujista in a sea of Sonys/CaNikons. Hipster Level: over 9000
Thanks so much, Earl. I'm glad I could lend some perspective. Since getting the X-T4 back in February, I've only fallen more in love with the camera. The colors are gorgeous, and you are right -- it is a very good looking camera. Ain't nothing wrong with channeling that inner hipster. ;)
Great production yet again, these videos are so relaxing, and I really get the Fuji thing, I have sold all of my other gear and just have an X100V for every day shooting, and an X-H1 with the beautiful 8-16mm for landscapes. Your videos are a good replacement for blood pressure medication as I am a highly stressed individual. In fact, this evening I beat up my Nikon D500 and buried it in a shallow grave in my back garden.....
Fuji is just great. I shoot only photos and adopted into the 50s early on, with all the bells and whistles(grip, tilt adapter) and never looked back on my previous system, Sony, ever again. It’s night-and-day in terms of the final result. I even liked my x100f photos more than my A7r2/3 photos. What Sony rocks is strong, the fast AF, truly hybrid, great technical quality overall but the render just has such an engrained look that I don’t like. No matter how much editing I do, I’m just not getting the shot I imagined until switching to Fuji. I really do miss that fast AF though.
I’m right there with you on a lot of these points. I miss the AF for video that I was getting with Canon, but I get the photo results I want either instantly or very quickly. It just had a warm, film-like vibe that completely embodies my style of shooting.
Former Canon Rebel user moved to Fuji via a second hand X-E2 (which blew my mind esp. paired with manual lenses for photography - form factor, interface and results) and then upgraded to X-T4 for true photo/video hybrid use (started with the 23mm f2 and now added the 50mm f2 - and am a happy camper aside from the odd AF brain fart ... for non high speed highly AF dependent photography/videography, Fuji is very compelling)
your video quality is right up there with the greats that you featured in this video. great job. what are your thoughts on the fuji's autofocus? what lenses are you using? *you adressed my first question in the end, nice lol
Thanks, Mike! A little more on Fuji's AF: I think under proper lighting, it does the job. I didn't do it any justice in this video, as I was wearing glasses and the glare was throwing off the eye tracking. It's not anywhere close to Canon's Dual Pixel AF, but I would say I can rely on it about 90% of the time. As far as lenses, I have the 28mm 2.8 for my X-E4, and the guy who sold me his X-T4 sold it to me with the 16-55mm 2.8, and the 56mm 1.2, and I'm very content with those for right now. It's a fast, super versatile mid-range zoom (truly a remarkable lens), and a great portrait lens. If I were to pick up another right now, it'd probably be another fast prime, or the 50-140mm 2.8 just to round it out, though I don't really need a telephoto.
Great video, dude! I have an X-T4 too and it's definitely got that Fuji magic to it. The af seems to have a mind of its own though. Some days it works great, other days it is a total disaster lol
Thanks! The AF is definitely the hot topic of debate for Fuji video in general. If lighting isn’t great and there’s good contrast, it’s pretty reliable. Otherwise…it’s hit or miss lol. I don’t have too many issues with photos, and for RU-vid, I’ll just throw it on eye detect since it’s sitting on a tripod.
What a wonferfully produced, shot and edited video. Fastest subscribe I've smashed. I'm still on the Fujifilm X-T3 but watched anyway - do you have any tips on getting the Fujifilm app to work? It's the only thing that Fuji has failed me on, I can never transfer photos to my phone.
Thanks, dude! I appreciate that! And there’s nothing wrong with the X-T3 - that just further proves the entire point of the video, which is simply using what works best for you, and not letting the specs and numbers cloud your vision on that. As for the Fuji app…well…😅. Let’s just say it’s “special” and leave it at that haha. Kidding aside, I do have luck with it, but it’s not the most intuitive process at all. I usually just have the camera on, then open the app and choose to view images on the camera, and the camera just does what it’s supposed to. I do feel like there’s a certain “order of operations” to get it to work properly, but it’s cumbersome and I honestly can’t say I use it much. If Fuji could tighten up that experience, it would make the entire SOOC process that much better, but I’m not getting my hopes up lol.
@@Christopher_Ray Thank you for the reply, I think I'll have to give the app another go. But I wholeheartedly agree that if they manage to make this work, I'll probably use the SOOC jpegs 80% of the time! Very excited to watch more content from you!
Haha thanks! Don't sleep on Fuji -- they're great cameras, and SO much fun to use. If you wanna trade for a day or two, let me know. 😜 (Excellent channel, by the way!)
@@Christopher_Ray can I ask something? Why didn't you take as an alternative the Nikon Z line or Panasonic S line. The Panasonic S5 is a great hybrid camera and Nikon is getting better with every lens, camera and firmware update.
I kind of outlined it in the video, but I was really drawn to Fuji color and the JPEG workflow. I do a lot of daily documentation and street, so the ease of recipes were a major selling point for me.
Hey Carlos, if I had the choice today, I would say the XS-20 is a much better choice over the X-T4. What it lacks in terms of the single card slot and weather sealing, it more than makes up for in its much improved AF (like the XT5 and XH2S), 4:2:2 internal video capability. For the price, it’s outstanding.
Great video! I personally am looking to upgrade from my first camera and am very confused on which direction to go in since the tide is shifting clearly to Mirrorless from DSLR. I have learned to shoot with canon but was leaning towards Sony…now I have more to consider…smh. Thanks a lot!!!! Lol
Oh my god, you can't imagine how 1:1 your story is to mine... These last 2 weeks I've been dying trying to decide which camera to buy, I also don't want to spend too much as I'm starting out. Initially, I really wanted a camera from Sony as I like their design, features, and what they give, but in my budget price range I wasn't able to afford the a7 and such models, so my only choice was the a6000 series or ZV-E10(Which because of its horrible rolling shutter was a no no for me). Then I moved to Canon, to see what they offer and got interested in the EOS Rp, on paper it seemed very good, even had a full-frame sensor and I almost decided to buy it but again, a few things appeared that made me not want it... Then out of nowhere I found Fujifilm and found out that they have cameras for all price ranges and they do not compromise on the essentials that I was interested in. Decided to go with X-S10, affordable than what Sony and Canon offer and is packed with features, even IBIS...
I think if video is your focus, absolutely. The X-H2S has a better stacked sensor, significantly better AF, records up to 6K in 10-bit, among some other improvements. Otherwise, I think the X-T4 is still one of the best, very capable, excellent hybrid APS-Cs for 2022.
Hi, have you considered the Canon R6? I figure you have and was curious what made you not weigh in on it. I'm actually kinda inclined now towards the XT-4 also. But wanted to hear about your thoughts on the R6. I really thought it was so close to the a7 IV.
Hey! So I wasn’t considering the R6, or any Canon for that matter. I was at a point where I needed a drastic switch if I was going to find enjoyment out of creating again. Sony seemed like the fit and the A7IV was looking like the one, but…it wasn’t. 🤷♂️ What are you using now?
I think the usual route for most people is Facebook Marketplace or various trusted websites, but I actually sold it and shipped it all to my sister 😅 What are you upgrading to?!
Yep, you messed that one up… Maybe you haven’t realized it yet but soon you will wake with that empty feeling in your gut and it will hit you! 😎😂 I’m just playing… Great vid… You’re a natural. 👌✌️
Haha nope! I switched to Fuji maybe 6 months ago, and I'm already three cameras in (X-T4, X100V, X-E4), and I have zero regrets! Thanks so much for watching! Do you shoot on the A7IV?
@@Christopher_Ray It really is a great system especially for photography. I am a video guy and although the picture is really nice and the color is outstanding on Fuji but I personally cant live without full frame. Little background… I started with a GH3 then GH4 and 5 and then i went to Sony a6300 and then the Fuji XT3 (loved it) but the lenses Fuji was making at the time were loud and not great for video… That’s recently changed BIGGLY! I’ve owned various Blackmagic and Red cameras… All Super 35 sensors However when i picked up the Canon R and an RF 50mm f1.2 I started to question myself… Then the R6 was mine and that true FULL FRAME… Its like cheating!!! Full Frame photography is incredible… Especially Portrait work… For video i’ve the Canon c70 (speedbooster) which i love…. But I also picked up the FX3 and a BMPC6K Pro…. So i still love the look of super 35 in some situations… I always trying new things and although Ive settled on a few I enjoy trying new systems and growing my skill with all the variations… Ive learned a ton about the companies behind these camera lines and realized there are only a few that have youre back… Anyhow, ima follow you and your progress… Hope to chat again. BTW congrats!! i really Enjoy your channel! ♥️
@@MARZILLI Whoa! Sounds like you’ve experimented a ton! One of these days, I will own a dedicated video camera, and it’ll likely be the FX3. I appreciate the sub! Thanks again for watching!
Pretty much most of everything on the channel is filmed with the X-T4. :) The most recent video I shot in Maine is a great variety of shots that showcase its range, if you want to check that out!
im telling you .fuji cameras are all porn.damn beautiful cameras you just want to put somewhere and watch them all day long. they know what they are doing. Japanese made high quality nostalgic .not super high tech like canon and red and arri and sony but they try to be usable as much.damn sure i am going to buy a r5c or sony a7iv but i just cant get my mind of those fuji silver black with those dials .and those colors and those simulation.hell i am even thinking about a large format beasts.
Funnily enough I have the A7IV which I use for paid/client work and a Fuji XE4 which I use for leisure and documentary type photos for myself. I shoot mostly JPEG on my Fuji too. The Fuji experience is fun I cannot deny
Honestly, that's an excellent combo! I also have the X-E4, and it's such a fun little camera that produces great results. What lens/lenses do you use with it?
@@Christopher_Ray yeah the combination does feel well balanced. For my Fuji XE4 I have the kit lens that comes with it which is a 40mm equivalent focal length I believe. I have one other lens for it only - Samyang 12mm (18mm equivalent). I didn’t want any lens which is too heavy or big for it. What about you?
@@memoriesmakeus985 I also use the same one. It's the pancake 27mm 2.8 WR. I have other Fuji lenses, but they are far bigger than I prefer to have on the X-E4, so the 27mm basically lives on it. However, because I treat it like a fixed lens camera, I find myself using the X100V almost 100% of the time nowadays.
@@Christopher_Ray I actually want to get the X100V but the price put me off haha. And I feel like I could get another lens instead for the Sony with that money. Do you use Instagram? I want to follow there too.
Funny you mention the price, I have a video I'm working on talking about the X100V -- I think it will lend some good perspective concerning price, and what we're willing to pay for that "X100V experience." I was able to get mine on Fuji's refurbished site for $999 back in May, and it shipped in pristine condition with a zero shutter count. If you're still looking, I'd suggest following Fuji on Twitter and turning on notifications! And yeah! Links are in the video description and on my profile. 🙏
@@Christopher_Ray at first I used ibis + ois and even DS. the result was not so pleasing when moving with the camera. then I turned everything off and took a gimble. seems to be way better... I'm a total beginner to video fyi. there are other RU-vidrs talking about the micro jiterz too
I can’t say I experience this at all. Between using IBIS, OIS, post image stabilization in Final Cut, and a steady hand, I’ve been really pleased with what I film. But I also don’t do a ton of slow, steady shots either in my films - if I did, I’d probably go the gimbal route. But for short clips, and product videos, I think the above mentioned stuff does the job well.
The short answer: yes. But truthfully, I think you can produce very similar results with either camera. I still think Fuji produces better color and is a much nicer looking camera, though that’s purely my opinion.
"Is this the perfect camera... for me?" is a great question to propose. I work at a video production company and we use a variety of Sony cameras and I personally purchased a Fujifilm x100F recently to add to my A7III. And honestly the Fujifilm x100F puts out more cinematic pictures than anything we use including, A7III, A7SIII, A7IV, FX3. there's just something incredible about Fuji's color science and sensors.
I love this. I think we too often try to find the perfect camera, thinking that what the internet states is “the best” is “best for us,” when that can sometimes be furthest from the truth. I love the X100 series! I have the V, and it’s hands down my favorite camera of all time.
@@Christopher_Ray Exactly! I think it's good to buy used, or try your friends' cameras. You never know what you'll love. Shoot with what you love and what makes you love shooting.
What I love about this video is that it’s just as entertaining for someone who just so happened to stumble upon it as it is for someone who intentionally found it to learn more about the vast amount of camera choices out there. 12/10 made me laugh and you are so very talented.
Those are always the best kinds of YT videos. I have no intention of buying a Fuji camera (at least at the moment.) but you gotta love those kinds of videos where you just get sucked in. THIRTEEN/10 will watch again. ;)
Really well said! Owning and using a Fuji camera is a culture of sorts. For me, it took photography from hobby to obsession. Like you said, the camera begs to be handled and used. It can't just be sat on a shelf. It's a muse of sorts. Tools are this way for me as well. In Carpentry or mechanical work, sometimes there are tools I want to use or processes that I look forward to going through, and it inspires the work. I once carried a new screwdriver everywhere I went for 2 weeks until I got to use it! Not everyone is this way, but who cares what drives your ambition as long as you're out there doing the thing!
I've been shooting XT-3 for a while, and often get camera envy when looking at the Sony A7IV. But every time I think about whether that is my next camera, I pick up a friend's Canon and realise just how unfun it is. The Fuji experience makes photography exciting, so glad you made the switch!
You nailed it! “Unfun” is the best way to describe how I was feeling towards the end of my Canon run. No disrespect to Canon users! I was just not enjoying the process anymore. Thanks for watching and for sharing the Fuji love. 🙏
My fun is in photoshop/LR so a full frame makes more sense however a smal Fuji crop sensor with recipes and straight out of Camera Jpegs sounds like fun too.
@@MrMarco7ify Yeah man if that's what you enjoy then lean into it! I find the feeling of 'crafting' a photo from scratch, all manual and all dials to give me a sense of pride that editing alone doesn't do. But glad you have found what works best for you!
Don’t get me wrong - I love editing. For client work, or stuff for the gram, I don’t mind it as a street and portrait photographer. But a huge portion of my work is documentation/everyday life/personal photos, and I just want to be able to take those photos quickly and move on. Fuji makes this process fun, easy, and beautiful all at once. Give it a try some time!
This is actually a similar story to how I ended up shooting Fuji😃I got a XT100 when I was just getting in to photography (about four years ago) for many of the same reasons (having had it recommended to me, size, and price). And that little entry level camera performed so well, and produced such amazing images, that when I finally grew out of it.... I went straight for the X-H2S😅 And I couldn't be happier!😊
Hey man! Happy I found you and this video!! I got the A7IV when it was released from another Sony body, but previously shooting on Canon. I never got used to Sony, and didn't feel like I loved the camera as one should. I was always attracted to Fuji, but had never tried one. Finally made the leap and got an xt4 this spring. I've only been using it since, but still haven't let go of my Sony, but I think it's time as it's just collecting dust at this point!
Rune, what an awesome story! It's so crazy how even though, on paper, the A7IV should be a better camera than the X-T4, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to what FEELS GOOD to YOU. It's not always about the specs, and I love it. Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing!
I am completly agree with all the things you explained, especially the similarity with an analogic camera, and the film simulations database, the black and white adding shadows, hilight and film grain, is something that other brand will never give!! But I work with the XT3 and an Alpha 7/3, each one of these complete the other. Thanks for this special Video
Amazing video! It was very fun to watch! Nice color grade as well. I went for Fuji a few years ago as well because of the JPEG colors mostly. I was tired of having to edit all my (non-work) pictures and loved the idea of clean exposure operation with the dials.
I own the A7IV and a Fuiji X100V and I agree with you the Fuji is so much nicer when using it for personal everyday stuff. The A7IV is amazing for client work. I am happy with both my cameras 😬
I bought the fuji for some of the same reasons. I wanted better video abilities and the fuji was recommended everywhere as the ultimate hybrid. Initially I was a bit underwhelmed but the more I used it the more I loved it. I used to spend hours and hours tinkering with pictures in lightroom and then photoshop with my old Nikon D5600. With the fuji most of what I do is bump the shadows slightly, apply film simulation and it looks great, I don't feel like there's anything more I can add by continuing to edit. It's incredibly kind to skin, I'm often shocked at how it makes peoples skin look better than what it actually was. I take photos at my local town festival in Ireland so blushed skin is common, I used to do every one the favour of reducing the reds on the face. Not necessary with the fuji for some reason. In Davinci resolve the skin tones are nearly always in the perfect position on the vectorscope without doing anything.
That’s so awesome. It really sounds like Fuji is the perfect system for YOU! I love how much my workflow has improved. Getting a RAW photo to a point I’m happy with doesn’t take nearly as long, thanks to the colors and film simulations, and shooting in JPG is so much fun. I agree with you on skin tones. I don’t struggle nearly as much with getting those right as I have in the past on other brands.
I started with film photography, so going with Fuji was a no brainer for me. The xt4 is my first digital camera and I thought I’d pick it up less than my film cameras, but that’s not true! Sometimes I tear up from how much I love shooting with it
There was kind of the same dilemma for me. I was shooting with a Canon M50, and with the release of the A7IV, the price of the A7III dropped considerable on the used marked (as a lot of A7III users were selling theirs to finance the buy of an A7IV). So I sat down, and looked at the diffrent options that were available to me. I was doing a bit of event photography, and believe it or not I HAD SD card failures, and I had the M50 lock up on me once. And I realized that for the price of an A7III used (~1600 euros used) + a couple of lenses (35mm, 85mm and a telephoto, either a zoom or a prime, about 1500 euros AT LEAST for those used) I could buy a Fuji X-T2 AND a Fuji X-T1 as backup, a bunch of batteries, a 23, 35, 56 and 85 mm primes (so 35, 50, 85 and 130mm equiv), a 12-24 adapted zoom with an 18-135 general use lens. And also get myself some new SD card and a camera bag upgrade. Worst thing about it ? It never felt like I was downgrading in anyway. I almost never use fece detect and I prefer to put my focus point on actual people so the X-T2 is plenty good for that, video is the same if not better than in the A7III (4K30p with F-Log inernally, that's a treat). Sometimes you just have to look away from the obvious option everybody is pointing at
WOW! I love this! That’s a killer deal! I don’t blame you for not wanting to pass that up. The deal I got on my XT4 was insane as well. That’s so crazy - I was ALSO coming from an M50, and had been wanting to upgrade for at LEAST two years. I’m an over thinker and spent far too long researching and waiting for the “right camera” to come along, expecting it to be a Sony or high-end Canon. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon some Fuji photographers on RU-vid (after a couple years of my friend whispering “come to Fuji” in my ear lol) that I saw them in a new light and was sold. :)
My story is very similar. I switched from my Nikon Z6 to the Sony A7IV. I bought into the hype. A lot of it is true. It’s a great camera, the autofocus is great! But it’s not a as robust as my Nikon in any way. Even the IBIS was better on the Z6. There’s no perfect camera.
Nikon's IBIS is insane, I was worried about handheld video with longer zoom lens, but the result is pretty good. The main reason is the really large Z mount, which allows more room for the sensor to shift around. Sony E mount is barely enough for full frame sensor.
Oddly enough, I switched from the x-t4 to the a7iv. I just had so many problems with my auto focus all the time. I could never tell if my photos were in focus until I’d get them onto the computer and too frequently they weren’t. Once I switched to primarily pet and baby photography the animal eye af came in very handy. For personal use, it’s pretty much family photo/video and daily life. The slow intentional feel of the fuji line didn’t quit fit my needs despite being a camera I loved. Just needed a device that could think for me half the time and one I could effectively use as a tool the other half.
Also a good choice! I was buying used, and the deal I got was excellent. I also own the XE4 and X100V, so being able to use lenses across the XT4 and XE4 was an added bonus. 👍
Good stuff. I recently switched to the A7IV and while I think it’s a fantastic camera and checks most boxes for client work, I just don’t think about picking it up for personal use. I keep coming back to videos about the XT-4. The images out of this camera are beautiful and just have this certain look that I find aesthetically pleasing. Love your style sir and can’t wait to see what else you create in the space…#subbed!
Totally agree! I’ve been carrying around the X100V as an everyday camera lately, and have been mainly using the XT4 as my video camera, but every time I shoot images with it, I’m always questioning why I don’t do it more! It’s really such a pleasure to use. I appreciate you, sir!
I have used both Sony and Fuji and finally sold off my XT4. The video quality in slog 3 is exceptionally pleasing with the right lut compared to fuji profiles. Also I had mine hang a couple of times during professional work.
Instead of upgrading to a new Sony I’m trading my a6400 for an xt3 or 4 and looking for an a7iii or older to get the full frame for my Sony glass I still have
I may be a Sony fan boy but not only the A7iv but even the A7iii obliterates xt4 Fuji is very difficult to use in a high pressure situation and the autofocus just sucks straight up
just like android and iphone. i choose android bcuz of how good it is and its better value while most people choose iphone because of its popularity and premium price tag. its rlly not necessary to get the expensive gears because in the end, everything depends on your skills or how you use the most of your camera.
What are your thoughts on the Fuji XS20? I am torn between the x-t4 and the xs20. My main use is video. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Honestly i Just dont Like the way that Sony cameras Look. Like the Body itself. On the other Hand, i love the fuji bodys, but it does turn off clients a bit, they dont know the internals are top notch, they just see an old looking camera.. Im looking at the Panasonic s5 right now, not sure which way i will go in the end..
