Is there a way to improve the autofocus performance in your Fujifilm camera??? In this video we will find out! This is another (early) #Fujifriday video, which I have not yet released on a Friday to date. 😆 I am, however, releasing one a week so that's progress. :)

Are you surprised to learn about Fujifilm's Performance Boost or is this old news to you?

Old news if I'm being honest. But I kept watching because I enjoy your content :)

I read it on the camera and the manual, but was overwhelmed with the menu. I missed this particular info. I actually wondered if boost would alleviate some of the rolling shutter effect. Maybe just the shutter speed can do that. Anyways, thank you for sharing this info, it is always welcome. Nothing like sharing new finds. There's always someone that didn't know, out there (like me, perhaps).

I've always been shocked that a company whose biggest problem is poor focus tracking sets its camera DEFAULT settings to an economy mode that hurts AF performance. Thanks for pointing this out, some people may not know. Keep up the great vids, Pete!

Mike this is such a great point. You would think they would talk this feature up more too. Glad you are enjoying the vids my friend!

There is a big pool of user types out there. I want to agree with your comment, but I personally prefer economy over speed of reaction for travel photography. Street photography (that I never have tried yet) would be a different thing. It's like people that buy the best but never really need it. You could go for 20Megapixels photos with this camera if you wanted, not a bad size for a photo. Maybe their standard choice is due to their marketing point with the battery life. It can be challenging to go through the menu in this camera. Not every user is nerdy. But besides all this, this camera can keep one quite busy (reading to learn, testing all modes, having fun making artistic attempts). Having fun with it is a good thing.

Makes sense to kinda avoid the focus competition altogether if they are already bad at it, it would be weird for specic users, but it'd be bad if people start saying "This thing can almost match a Sony in terms of AF" while this is probably just Fuji's side experiment or addon features for a nicher user range.

Anytime I talk to a new Fujifilm user, this is 1 of the things I ALWAYS tell them to change off the bat. It’s so easy to miss when getting started.

I definitely noticed the improvement especially when I was shooting at very low light at the end of the day when I'm shooting landscapes and even though I use single-dot focus I did notice focused better... funnily enough though I didn't notice a big drop off in battery life😮😮😮

Hey! I currently photograph with xt3 and set of lenses: 23mm from Viltrox, 30mm and 56mm from Sigma and 85mm from Viltrox. I am very pleased with my images (mainly outdoor portraits), but autofocus could use some improvement. Would you guys recommend upgrading the camera (for example to xt5) or lens?
@PeteCocoPhoto
@PeteCocoPhoto 8 месяцев назад
The XT5 or XH2/2s will be a solid improvement in the AF. But, if you are shooting with the XT3 you might be disappointed in the build quality of the XT5.

@@PeteCocoPhoto Thanks for quick response! Do you think there is signifficant improvement in autofocus department between xt4 and xt5 tho? Used xt4 are way cheaper 😅

@@krzysztofsciso6272 it’s a noticeable difference for sure but I still use my 4 and love it.

Hi, great video! Do you know how I can hide the focuspoints, which appear when I move the focus-joystick? Thanks in advance!
@PeteCocoPhoto
@PeteCocoPhoto 7 месяцев назад
Do you see the focusing points all the time? Yes, you can change this in the menu so you only see the point when adjusting the lever. I'm not sure if I understood the question but hope this helps!
@Powerland56
@Powerland56 Год назад
Thanks for that Video! Boost mode should be enabled after unboxing and changed 😉. But thats not all…. one more thing: fokusprio should be enabled in AF-C (default is release prio 🤦🏼‍♂️) and AF+MF should be OFF, because if its ON, there is a hidden fallback to release prio.

Hmm some other setting you have engaged is causing that. Not sure what

That's what I thought, but I reset everything to factory settings, and it was still greyed out. I reviewed the firmware update notes and saw nothing about this issue, and exhausting web searches has yielded nothing.. @@PeteCocoPhoto

Only thing missing in the XT5 is a nuclear power source. But I guess that raises to many questions😅

It might amaze you to learn that New York is filled with people from all over the world -- and I know this sounds crazy -- but many of these people groups retain some of their cultural identity from the old world while still considering themselves New Yorkers. I know, nuts right?!! It's almost like some sort of melting pot.

This is kind of ridiculous. Performance mode should be the camera's normal mode with normal mode as an economy mode. Not exactly a "feature" to brag about.
