Thanks for this very timely video Chris. I picked up my camera two days ago and was hoping you would do a tutorial as a planned to set it up today. And, there you were. I appreciate all that you do for Fuji shooters.
One of the beautiful things about the XT bodies is that small function button in front next to the finger grip. My Nikon doesn't have one and I'm not sure about other brands. Instead of assigning this to playback which can be accessed from the back while you’re looking at the screen, I assigned the Back Button Focus function to this button. With your index finger on the shutter button, your middle finger will fall naturally on this button, making back focus so easy. The rear button that has this function assigned out of the box is hard to use with your thumb if you have large hands.
This was so helpful. I am testing out a Fujifilm X-T5 and you just saved me so much time in figuring out how to set it up to simply get started. Thank you!
Looking foward to more videos on the X-T5. Coming soon. I feel like Fuji listened as to what I wanted in a camera. This one is perfect for me. You are my go to guy.
New subscriber. I am not a beginner (novice I would say). Came from Canon to Sony and now to Fuji. The X-T5 is my new obsession. So looking to learn more how to take pictures in the Fuji system. This tutorial is a good start. Thanks!
Hi Chris, I've just invested in this beautiful camera. I've been using Nikon for years but fancied seeing what this camera can do. Your tutorial has been so helpful so thank you so much. I'm currently in Thailand and there is so much to photograph.. I've been passionate about photography since I was a child and now I'm an old git at 60 but still very passionate. Thanks again. Brilliant tutorial. I have three Nikons and a Canon with me so if I can't work things out with this Fuji I have pretty good back up. I will work it out though thanks to you. I'm waffling now so so I will say goodbye but rest assured I'll watch some of your other videos.
Thank youuuu!!! without seeing this video i would not have used my fisheye lens from a 7Artisans 7.5m Fisheye to my T5 fujijil. Such a camera life saver!
Just went through my camera settings as I watched. I already use a lot of what you suggested but also found some settings I could change for the better, so thank you!
Just got my new fuji xt5. Your tutorial on set up was fantastic . Great help. I watched when I first got my xt3. Appreciate what you do. Happy holidays
Since I've switched from Nikon (D800) to Fuji (X-T1, T2, T3, T5) I've never used RAW again ^^ Fujis JPG Engine with their incredible Filmsimulations is just awesome, I love it :)
Chris, you're the best. I've been a photographer for over fifty years. I just got the XT5 and happily decided to use your guide for starter set-up. You make it clear and simple. And fun. Inspiring. Thank you!
Plug the dongle into your headphones cord and tape it in place with some electrical tape. Basically it becomes part of headphone cord. Did this for my Samsung phone as they no longer have jacks.
Nice one Chris, not too far removed from the XT3, I should get the XT5 next week, no flippy screen, 7 stop Ibis, faster and better A/F, oh and 40mp, whoopeee. Cheers
Hi Chris, your video is great for new fujifilm camera users like me. Thanks a lot! I just got my brand new X-T5 a couple of days ago, and am following your video step up step to setup the camera. Everything is well except that the access to PHOTOMETRY setting is blocked under the Still mode. I tried changing M,C,S, and other settings on the dials. Did not work. Is it because the lens attached to the Camera, which is a fuji XF16 - 80 f4, or is it something else? I followed you video for every step. It would be great if you can help. Thanks a lot. Best Regards, James.
I take photos quite often but I don't make a living from it. I have the X-T50 and am trying to find out whether the X-T5 can do more in certain situations. So the question is: does it make sense to also buy the X-T5 and use both? In which situations would you take/use each camera?
Probably only if you were shooting so the for instance two different primes during event or place where you could change them instantly. If you’re hobbyist there is absolutely no need for two bodies. Just my 2 cents
Hi Chris, I have watched this video several times and I still need help. In Movie mode my Photometry, flickerless ss and IS mode are grayed out. What has them interlocked? Thank you for your help.
Hey Chris, I seen your other video about changing your image resolution when downloading images from camera to phone. However I noticed that the XT5 does not have a connection setting ..? How have you noticed that ?
Hi Chris, Great video on initial setup - Thanks! One question I have is regarding the front dial below the shutter release. I notice that it works to change aperture setting when aperture is in A mode. Does this dial have any other functionality or customization capability? Thanks. Don Mendocino Coast, California
Not sure why yet, but the birds photos I do with my x-t2 are better than what I get from the x-5 with all IBIS and bird subject detection on... At the moment I'm very confused and disappointed
@@laurapeter3857 Yes, all the same plus I utilize new birds subject detection feature. So at least I expect same results, but not worse. But even for the same it did not make sense to get x-t5
I'm not sure what you're doing wrong, but I took my X-T5 out today for a test drive and one of the subjects I shot were some ducks in a pond. With my 35 mm f/2 and bird recognition it worked reasonably well given the fact that the 35mm f/2 is absolutely no lens for wildlife shooting. Just for fun I looked up 'birds in flight' on RU-vid and tried the bird recognition of the X-T5 which worked quite well. Compared to my X-T2 this is like stepping from the bronze age towards the iron age.
Hi Chris. just a quick point about the sequencing of the changes you recommend. At 4.15 you suggest setting face/eye auto detect to on and then at 6.20 you suggest changing the photometry setting. However, once you've turned face/eye auto-detect on the photometry option gets yellowed out (as it is on your video at 6.32). I checked with the manual and that's what's supposed to happen. You may have done what I did and changed the photometry setting before turning on face-eye auto detect. However, the sequencing in your video might create a bit of confusion on this point. Otherwise I'm finding this very helpful - thank you!
I still remember the eagerness I had watching your XT3 Setup Guide just after receiving mine for Xmas. The chills, man. You've grown so much since then, Chris
Thanks Chris. I’m learning so much from your videos. Not just about Fuji, but about the world of digital photography in general. I’m an old film fogey returning to photography after an absence of about 30 years and your straight-talking, clear instruction is just so helpful. All the best (from Australia). Now, do I upgrade my x-t3 to a 5? Rhetorical question of course, but I await your full review with interest!
Chris, my X-T5 was delivered Thursday. I had pre-watched your video when you first released it, and I re-pre watched it early this week as a warm up. Yesterday and today I slowed it down to .75 speed and went through it step by step for a final screening. Thanks for doing this, it took the pain out of the setup. Al
Love this channel, and this one was a massive help. I am all in on fuji but was missing this clear set up intro... brilliant. Thank you for creating this work.
If I were on the fence about a certain camera to buy starting out in photography, your videos alone would be enough to make me choose the Fuji X-T5. Thank you for all you do in making these videos!
Hi mate, Following your setup guide on my new XT5, I got to the part about "PHOTOMETRY"... and my option is greyed out, cannot change it.? any advice? EDIT - I took Face detection off... and now I can change PHOTOMETRY"...
Great assistance in trying to keep the various combinations straight. As always you've provided clear instruction to help us get the most out of our Fuji cameras. My go to source for this - Thank you so much for the effort you put into this channel!
Great intro. I am a professional photographer and HS Photo teacher going into my 4th Fuji X camera (XT1,XPro2,XE4 and now XT5) and still I learned a LOT. Thank you for doing this.
Omar has said turning AF+MF off will be better at ensuring you don't miss focus in certain cases... I'm curious if you can confirm that and update your guide: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TLQquzrUq7g.html
@@jmpattillo honestly, as long as i can't use liveview mode effectively, using as remote shutter doesn't mean much to me. and liveview of fuji app is beyond horrible. slow, sluggish, freezing constantly, and doesn't utilize landscape mode. i'd prefer that the app works wired instead of wireless, if it meant it would work smoothly. i don't know why they force people to use it only wirelessly. especially, their wireless connection is not effective enough to carry liveview video feed properly.
👍 Florian!! Yeah, I broke my 'no working on weekends rule' LOL, but this camera is a BIG DEAL and a lot of people may be setting them up this weekend!!!
Fuji are releasing, or have released, so many new cameras, it's difficult to keep on top of it all. I ,recently, purchased a S10 and that will be my last body purchase for a number of years.
This video, as always is worth its weight in gold. One of the many excellent pieces of advice, get a second battery. I would say get the proper fuji stand-alone charger too, that way you have zero battery issues for a full days shooting. Well done.
@@jacobbice8540 Agreed. Seems a little cheesy to sell a $1700 camera without a charger, but several manufacturers are doing this now. Just a way to add $60 to the real price.
I like that they kept the price relatively low (compared to other brands) by not including things that some people won’t want or need. It’s the same battery and charger as the X-T4 right? Like Apple with the charging block. Everyone has a few of those already.
I'll be reviewing this as I switch from my XT3 to an XT5 soon. But I wanted to insert here a STRONG recommendation that everyone use the new Fuji XApp mobile application, if for no other reason than because you can easily back up and restore all of these custom settings. My XT3 has reset itself twice now. The first time was before I had XApp and I had to rebuild my entire set up (including a whole bunch of custom film sims) while on vacation. Absolutely miserable. The second time was just a few weeks ago and I was able to get everything back the way I like in under 2 minutes with the app.
absolutely amazing crash course... love it....thank you. i just bought XT5 today and voila i don't need to read the manual only thing is you were very fast ... so i have to go back and forth but very informative... thank you again
Thanks! Very helpful. Now.. do you put a screen shield on lcd and which brand, do you add a camera soft release button, which external charger other than fuji's do you recommend for these batteries? Spare batteries other than Fuji, Wasabi?
Thanks for this! I’ve been in the Sony ecosystem since 2016 and just switched to Fuji with the X-T5 (delivered today) and I’m actually a little lost so this is really helpful for me. Thanks!
you are the best. i setup every setting exactly how i want it. i'm an experienced fuji user, and i STILL couldn't figure out how to get the micro prism and dual screen options enabled, and i simply didn't have the focus set to manual while adjusting the settings. *slaps forehead*. also, i never use the touch screen for photos either!
With my X-T5 on order, this video couldn't have come at a better time . Thanks for posting Chris and I'm looking forward to more from you on this fantastic camera as and when.
Quick question about VR/IBIS. When the camera is on a tripod, and you turn off the VR ON the lens, what about the IBIS? Will that cause blurring as happens when the VR on the lens is on?
this is really good work, like your style. I am 100% focused on FujiFilm now. I have to choose which camera I am going to buy. Sony A7 IV or FujiFilm X-T5 or X-H2(S). so I watched all content on both camera's...but your way of presenting is a breath of fresh air.....kudos from the Netherlands
Hello there! I’d like to thank you for doing a step by step guide. I’m fairly new to Fuji and you made if very easy to follow. And yes, this is an entertaining video!!! Really appreciate you taking the time to make this. 🎉
Should be getting my X-T5 any minute now *keeps checking for the FedEx Truck* I will be watching this video as I open it up. I am excited because this is my first ever brand new camera, I have always gotten 2nd hand before, I am upgrading from the X-T2.
Thanks for the video! I'm a new subscriber too! It was very helpful! It has been several years since I bought my last camera and it has been that long since I've had to dive in a menu to tweak all these settings. BTW, F-stoppers simply used your video on their page on how to set up this camera. The only setting I would disagree on is to have IS always on. It's akin to turning on pre-AF. I have found always-on functions to be unnecessary. Please keep posting these tutorial type videos! They are very helpful.
Thank you for this excellent video! I'm new to Fuji and already love the XT-5. Your video has made it so much easier for me to get started. Thank you very much!
Today I've used it for the first time after my X-T2 and a few conclusions I have drawn: - A bit weird that the Q buttion is on the right and the AF on the left for back-button focus, now I have swapped both - My version of Lightroom can't read the .RAF files which is weird, I guess I need to upgrade my version - In uncrompressed RAW one .RAF file is around 85 megabyte which is use, files of the X-T2 were around 50 mb, probably better to shoot (lossless) compressed Things I learned now: - Buy another battery! 🙂 For the touch controls I would recommend to keep it on, at least for using tracking autofocus and selecting the subject. In my very limited test drive I tried it out and it works very decently. I also assign a button to modify the different modes of the AF-C autofocus which can be handy. I would also recommend to use the Q-button as the new autofocus makes a difference between animal recognition (one icon) and person recognition (another). If you want to switch from one to the other the Q button will be the fastest way.
Hi Chris. What a great video. Very helpful. I have a question. The shutter AE is by default turned ON in the menu. When I turn it OFF and I am using auto iso, I don't see my iso settings on my screen when I half press my shutter. I will have to check by play back my photo. is there an other way around? Many thanks in advance.
Thanks for the video, one of the best published on you tube, very clear and complete although fast. I gave myself this car for Christmas and I will play with it.
At 20:00 - Regarding setting the X-T5 to "LCD Only". I noted that my Fujifilm X-T5 Camera's viewfinder does not have a "text" option that states "LCD Only". Instead, the X-T5 viewfinder goes to blank/black when the selection button is "clicked"/"Rotated" to what would have been this option, to indicate that only the LCD screen will be available in viewing the subject/scene for photographs. However, a check of my older Fujifilm X-T4 camera does have a "text" option that states "LCD Only" as shown in this video. So, this raises a question: Did you "cheat" a tiny bit when explaining this option and use your Fujifilm X-T4 camera to demonstrate this option where the viewfinder shows the "text" option that states "LCD Only"? Thought I would ask as some new X-T5 owners might think their camera is malfunctioning when it does not show the "LCD Only" text as indicated in this video. Thanks very much (in advance) for your response. I really enjoy your videos and they have proved invaluable in helping me with learning about Fujifilm cameras and photography. Thank you for providing this information to Fujifilm camera users such as myself.
Great advice, but I'm surprised you recommend using focus peak highlights when the XT5 has a serious bug with these (the peaking doesn't disappear when the shutter is half pressed, as it does on the XT2/3/4). No clear view, and without peaking enabled the XT5 EVF is not high enough resolution to use manual focus accurately. Please help highlight this serious bug to Fuji... hundreds if not thousands have raised their concerns about this. A truly flawed 'professional' camera.
Where can I buy Fujifilm XT-5 compatible USB-C Cable ("USB 3.2 Gen 2 port supports tethering, data transfer, and in-camera battery charging"). Which one would you suggest? I happened to damage it already.
Hello: I have been looking your videos for a long time, having Fuji since 2015. They helped a lot. My problems are the folowing: When I am looking my LCD screen on my X-T5, sometimes my white balance is completely off, let´s say disabled , and I cannot change to any kind of white balance (when I do JPG). where is this control in the menu to enable it back? Another problem is that on my LCD screen, the exposure indicator (52) is sometimes working, sometimes not, which is a great problem. Iif I am on asignment, I must be able to fix both problems rapidly. Where in the menu can this be enabled or disabled? Never had these two problems with my X-T1 and X-T2- Thanks so much and happy Chrsitmas. From Patagonia-Chile.
Thanks Pal2Tech. I’ve got a TTArtisans lens on the way and needed to remind myself where to find shoot without lens in the menu to make sure I had it set right
As a retired, 20 year Fuji Pro Products Tech guy, I NEVER use Center weighted metering. Matrix and Spot are great. CW is the WORST option. I'll look for why you use this.
My movie settings in my new camera seem to varies from your X-T5 Setup for Beginners video in RU-vid, for example I can not locate the "Movie Optimized Control" and many others. Do they sold me an old version of the X-T5? Thank you.
I find the power on/off switch to be difficult to toggle on my copy of the X-T5 compared to my X-T4. Did you notice the same or perhaps my X-T5 copy is slightly defective?
Well I have all your xt-5 videos so far and they are filled with tons of usable information I have followed you through my Fuji XT's 1,2,3,4 an hopefullly the 5 in the next couple of days. My ? , The SD cards I have been using are not fast enough for the XT-5. What type of card do you suggest. Keep up the great work
Hi Chris, I’m watching binge watching so many of your videos but couldn’t figure it out why the X-T5 needs a Fuji webcam software on the computer to be used as a webcam, if the cheaper X-S20 can send the video directly to the computer. Do you know if this is a firmware option by Fuji, and maybe they will open the signal? (I can’t freely install softwares on my computer, and Fuji webcam software is not allowed, but I want to use the camera as a webcam…)
Man, when I took my camera out, it was like the last camera in the world, or my first baby. 😂 I took all the plastic out so meticulously and placed everything not needed nice and neat back in the box. And I put the lens in the camera in a split second. 😅 Should I wait until I test the camera before I install any firmware updates? I’ve read folks that have had issues after installing firmware. Also, I was just wondering if you have any recommendations on what new owners should be testing (which key features) to make sure the camera is in good working order.
Thank you, Chris! This is my first time viewing one of your videos. I'm so impressed with the detail and help you offer with this camera. I have a question.. is it possible to run this camera in a complete auto setting mode? Auto ISO, aperature, focal length, etc? I'm going on a trip to europe relatively soon and I want to take as much guess work out of the camera as possible, initially. I know this is a camera you can really grow with, but I'd like to delve into playing with settings later. I'm primarily interested in very sharp still photography. The main reason I'm looking at this camera, is I'm going to Germany for the birth of my first grandchild and I want the absolute best quality portrait, landscape and street photos I can get! This camera seems to fit the bill, as well as being portable. Also, do I have to use the fuji app to transfer pictures to my smartphone on the wifi? Thank you for your time. 😊
On my X-T5, if "Face Detection" is ON, then "Photometry," on the "Shooting Setting" Menu is grayed out. If you go back and turn "Face Detection" OFF, then you can set Photometry to "Center Weighted," then go back and turn "Face Detection" back to ON. If you now turn "Face Detection" OFF again, you can go back to Photometry, check it, and the setting still says "Center Weighted." I don't understand why Face Detection is connected to the metering mode, but there it is.
pretty sure I followed your list correctly ... but when I got to photometry it was greyed out (?).. I am a very new user, not only the xt-5 but all cameras outside my smartphone.. And what do you set you auto off to? my camera keeps turning off on its own about ever 2 or 3 min ..thanks for the tutorial
Well done. You need a video on setting up geotagging and connecting to an iPhone. I guess you will have to take a deep breath and explain the Fuji app. Bob, Springfield, VA
I hate that app. But I use it because I want the geotagging. On the X-S10, it was unreliable and then suddenly became rock solid after a firmware update. Hoping the X-T5 has that fix!
