There is one annoying flaw in the x-t5. When you using manual focus, the focus-peaking does not go away as you press the shutter, i.e. when you take a picture, you will see the focus-peaking highlight in the viewfinder. In all older Fuji's, as you focus, you see the focus peaking, but as you press the shutter, it goes away. It should be an easy firmware fix. I hope the x-t50 doesn't have this flaw .....

Is it fair to say that xt-50 has better software processing than xt-5, since it is newer and has more film simulations?
@Kim_Alexander
@Kim_Alexander 4 месяца назад
Fuji will update the xt5 and all 5th gen cameras in n August so that they all have the same simulations. That's the strength of fuji. A user can have one camera for work and a smaller cheeper one at home that output more less the same image quality. I just recently recommended a friend of mine to buy this. He want a small camera, enjoy different lenses and is a raw shooter. That film sim dial works great for raw shooters. Personally I wounder if you can still use the custom modes when using the film sim dial. if that's possible the user can create recepies that works on all. simulations. Witch is quite interesting.

No, recipes are not the main thing. You could set All of that stuff on any camera out there. Customizable settings in that regard aren't unique to Fujifilm at all, and so many people process the hell out of their pictures regardless of brand, it winds up being a moot point anyway. It's the Film Simulations themselves that are the draw, looks being right up there, too. I own an X-Pro1 and 3, an X100V, and an X-T2 and 20. You know what I'd love to have? A dedicated dial for the film sims (especially on the 100V and X-Pro3) instead of having to customize it to a button. I subscribe to FujiX as a show of solidarity, but to me, I dig the hell out if the looks I get in camera on jpegs and raws with the sims applied more than any recipe I've tried. In fact, the main reason recipes are popular to begin with are because the sims are already there. If they weren't, no conversation to be had. If I wasn't already covered up with cameras and not presently broke, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Not just because of the dial, but the whole package. I'm also waiting for the X-Pro4, haha! I'm not saying it's the better buy over the X-T5, but it's not as lacking as the minority thinks it is. Not to me, anyway.
@bgrzesiak5996

You can't different film settings on any other camera because no one else has the highlight and shadow tone controls. That is exclusive to Fuji. Also, the overprocessing you discuss is done AFTER the exposure, ignoring the image processors and algorithms Fuji uses. Third party software negates that and uses algorithms designed by the software companies. That's the reason I shoot only JPEG. Like shooting chrome film, you get it right IN THE CAMERA.
@lordofgonzo
@lordofgonzo 5 месяцев назад
@@bgrzesiak5996 Okay, I'll grant that you couldn't 1:1 match Classic Neg., but I'm calling bullshit. You can affect settings In Camera for jpegs on any camera. I'm doing it on a GX-85 right now just to be a smart-ass. You can definitely approximate a look. And no shit Sherlock, image editing has to happen AFTER the picture is taken🧐 That's why I brought it up. The vast majority of people doing more than posting pictures to Instagram post process their images, and usually a lot. And I'm speaking to the larger body of photographers in that comment, not specifically Fuji users(even though they're still included)🙄 It's why a lot of people shoot jpeg And raw. My primary point here, though, is that if you're saying the biggest draw to the Fuji system is customizable film recipes, you're a doofus. And if you're whining about a film sim dial, you're a bigger doofus.
@bgrzesiak5996
@bgrzesiak5996 5 месяцев назад
@@lordofgonzo I'm happy you didn't over-react! ;) "The vast majority of people" don't make it OK to do something. Shooting both JPEG and RAW? It makes no sense to me, but does eat up a LOT of HD space. Why not take the time to learn your camera and do it right the first time. I hate the computer work. I have always been a photographer, not a darkroom/computer tech. - Never said the biggest draw to Fuji was film simulations. Also, I don't toss insults easily. It's rude and childish. - Where did I whine about a film simulation dial...you doofus? (it's ok since you used it on me first ;) ). - I worked for Fuji as a Professional Products Tech Rep for almost 20 years. Doofus wasn't on my credentials. - I was THERE when these actual films came out. I KNOW what went into their creation. - I was THERE when digital arrived. - When Fuji brought film engineers back from retirement to create the Fuji film simulations for the X System, , I KNEW some of those men and what they were undertaking. It's the incredible algorithms they established that work. For someone to say they have a Kodakchrome "recipe" is subjective and who's to say they do? It's like giving yourself an award. Our original professional cameras didn't have RAW on them as it bypassed the Fuji image processor. The Japanese at Fuji found it ludicrous. They capitulated when marketing intervened but they were not happy about it. So chill out and spend your time at software Fuji didn't make to over process your then, almost-Fuji images. I'll be out in nature shooting. And stop name-calling when you don't know who you're talking to and even if you do.
@lordofgonzo
@lordofgonzo 5 месяцев назад
@@bgrzesiak5996 Okay, it's obvious from your response that you not only didn't read my original comment, but don't have a firm grasp of context or minutiae of conversation, and maybe poor powers of observation. I wasn't calling You, specifically, a doofus. It's the royal "You." I was speaking to a broader audience and population of photographers. I'm more than inclined to call you names now, though, because you're putting words in my mouth. I Never offered an opinion on using third party software for post processing, or said that I used them. In fact, if you had read my original comment, I say I love the simulations applied to the pictures as is. Anyway, fuck off, and learn to read.

Kim! great video. I want to buy a fuji as an EDC, something small with flash, preferably stabilised, weather sealing (if possible), and the XT30 ii is cheap, but doesnt have the nicer newer sensor or better AF as the xt50 or xt5. The xt5 does have weather sealing and a better battery life, but no flash... After your review here it seems the xt50 film simulation dial is a waste and a gimmick, otherwise Id have bought this, despite it being super expensive in Australia.. help!

Fuji have a tiny flash that use to foe with older cameras that fits in any pocket. if you are a raw shooter the film somme dial it pretty nice. If you shoot jpeg it might be possible to have custom modes that are like. Flat, high contrast, High saturation and so on that would work on all simulations.

not much to compare the xt50 is an entry level camera while Nikon and Sony are professional level cameras with redundancy and weather sealing. Inage quality is good on all just as it is on most cameras since 2013 and onwards. Fuji should have discontinued the xt30ii and replaced it with the xt50 with a lower price, what they are doing now is kind of greedy and probably makes some entry level photographers choose competitors that are cheeper ..

1) If you wear a Kodak sweatshirt doing a Fuji review, I've lost respect for you. ;) 2) The so-called film recipes are no substitute for knowing what you're doing with the camera. Why anyone would want a Kodakchrome recipe over a Velvia setting never shot the film. Velvia put the nails in Kodachrome's coffin just before the EPA did (K14 was a HORRIBLY polluting process) 3) I agree the T-50 is too much overlap. Fuji is headed toward competing more against themselves rather than other camera makers.

Clearly, the hoodie is awesome, and if you think otherwise, you're just wrong-style and substance, remember? As for film, Kodak Portra is the crown jewel. And these film recipes? They’re practically a shortcut to Ansel Adams-level genius.
@bgrzesiak5996
@bgrzesiak5996 5 месяцев назад
@@Kim_Alexander That's hilarious! There's a lot to unpack here, but let's try: In my 50 years in photography, 15 running Pro Stockhouses, 20 as a Fuji Pro Products Rep and 15 as a pro photographer, I NEVER found ANY pro who thought Kodak Gold 100 was a "crown jewel". THAT is the hoodie you're wearing. Portra was a last attempt in making a pro C41 film that, unlike CPS or VPS, could have a consistent ISO rating that matched what it said on the box. Their films simply weren't technically made to be consistent enough. Gold 100 was a consumer film for instamatic cameras. Film "recipes" are "practically a short cut to Ansel Adams-level genius"? Having used the Zone System for decades, I can assure you, these made up "recipes" are interesting, but there is no standard here. Who decides these "look like" various films? Purely subjective. The Beard's images were NEVER purely subjective. He spent years discovering The Zone System and EVERY step was intentional and known. That was his whole point. Repeatability at a highly technical level. No shots in the dark. Every exposure he made was calculated: expose the film SPECIFICALLY after assigning the values to highlight and shadow, develop the film in RESPONSE to those exact values and printing the images to finalize the initial pre-visualization at the instant the shutter button was released. Now most folks shoot RAW, and fix stuff in the software. The opposite of Ansel Adams' life's work.

@@bgrzesiak5996 I've made my living from photography and film for 19 years, starting right after graduating from what we in Sweden call Gymnasium-similar to college in some countries. I was 19 years old back then. Since then, I've worked with clients like Bosch, Ikea, Koenigsegg, Subaru, and many others, primarily in commercial photography, while also pursuing street photography on my own. My journey with photography began even earlier. I started creating images at the age of 7 when my dad gave me a Polaroid. By 13, I had saved up from a summer job to buy an SLR. Creating images has been a part of my life since before I could even write. Regarding the hoodie-it's fashion, and I wear it like a boss! It's the crown jewel of hoodies, and it looks good! My approach to film simulations, recipes, and any old camera or lens I review on this channel is the same: if it creates a look that I subjectively like, I go for it and create images. As for Ansel Adams, while I respect his work, I've never been heavily influenced by it. I own his book, "The Negative," but I've never read it. I was too busy experimenting in the studio and the darkroom, creating my own images rather than reading books. Now it just sits on the shelf, patiently waiting for me to crack it open one day. Maybe it’ll become a collector's item! Ultimately, photography is about personal expression. While technical expertise is important, so is the ability to create images that resonate with an audience.

@@Kim_Alexander I won't hold your lack of experience against you, of course. Youth has it's challenges. Adams also went for creative images, just not random ones. You do wear that hoodie like a boss in my estimation. Let me know when you make your living doing street photography. I'm sure it's a very lucrative market. Love to see your work for Subaru, Ikea and Bosch. Is it on your website? What is the address? Having a book is meaningless. READING a book moves you toward wisdom as will EXPERIENCE which only comes with time. Hang on, you will eventually get there. Cheers.

A film simulation dial is an absolute joke. Years from now people will look back on this camera and laugh. I love my X-T5 and I love it because of the great sensor and the fact that it has dials that control exposure settings that are immediately visible when you look down at the camera. Honestly, this dial causes me to lose just a little bit of respect for Fuji. I know that shooting jpegs is a big draw, even though I personally have never had a Fuji camera produce jpegs that are as good as what I can produce in Lightroom, but it just seems like overt *pandering*. I feel a little apprehensive because if I ever see someone with this camera it's going to be so hard not to write them off as a hack.

I get your point, but lightroom ignores most of what the Fuji image processor does. Just as pro photographers shot chrome film (despite it's unforgiving lack of latitude), the images were what the pro world needed. No commercial shooter used C-41 films. With E-6, you had to know what you were doing and get the shot. No manipulation was possible. You had to get good at exposure/lighting/composition or get a different job. And all that was dependent on having a lab that ran a top notch E-6/Kodak Z Manual process. It wasn't easy to find anywhere. I know. I spent 20 years trying to get labs to adhere to the Kodak standards in their labs.

@wreddell The X-T50 has dials that control control exposure settings, they are the shutter speed dial, the aperture ring on the lens and the exposure compensation dial. The number of people that haven't a clue how to use a Fuji camera never ceases to amaze me. Set to AutoISO, set the desired shutter speed, set the desired aperture and guess what the EC dial becomes? An ISO dial. As for the film simulation dial, that is genius. You don't hide your Unique Selling Point, you put it right there on a dial. That camera is going to be a hot-seller as a result.
