I’ve been a professional wildlife photographer (Nikon) for 20 years and have just bought the x100v and a week later, the xT4. I’ve spent the last 2 weeks watching RU-vid videos, buying guides and generally overwhelmed. I haven’t seen anything like this video anywhere. And watching you AS you changed the settings…that was epic! Nobody did that….100 videos say “ you can do this, and you can do that” but the missing information is always HOW and WHERE.. Your video was incredible! Thank you!
Thanks for your help in explaining all the options and how you set your camera up. I too was having trouble with the toggle button and the focus point and set it up the way you explained. However that didn't work until I realize I had "focus" set on my touch screen, that also moves around as you carrying the camera. Once I turned that off, it works the way I want it, focus-compose, focus-compose, etc!
This camera is arriving today. It is my first foray into non-phone cameras as an effort to get away from the screen and into a healthier pastime. So many software options so I’m just going to exactly copy your settings for now and see. Thanks for providing this video.
@@coleb7644 beautiful pics. I’m still learning the ropes (a long way to go) but if I can get good result as a complete newbie I imagine someone with skill will be able to get pretty special pics
Thanks for the video ..Followed all your instructions.... all my photos came out very dark compared to my iPhone... This was a bright sunny day at the beach
Extremely useful.. I also have Nikon DSLR D500 and there are a couple of very good user manuals I use as reference and they explain ideal or optimum settings step by step clearly. For FUJI X100V I could not find a hard copy or online clear help on setting up this highly sophisticated compact. Your video helped me greatly. Thank you so much. That is what I needed as your video is comprehensive in a simple way. My camera set up now tidy as a very good starting points for any future set up modifications. Thank you for great video.
This was super helpful! PROS: your expertise! Thanks for the details and offering the reason why you choose a particular option (noting at the beginning these are your settings), the speed of the review-it gives me the option to pause if needed which I prefer, you have a great voice to listen to. CON: Only one - that darn music was distracting. I appreciate this video and you sharing this information! Thank you!!
Hi, very helpful, thank you. The only thing it was kind of fast for us that are new to the camera and on some settings you did not explain why you chose such settings, beyond that, thanks for taking the time to do this.
Great info👍 my wish list is the 100V, If you want improved dynamic range? you should set it to 400% al lot of people think because they are in raw in makes no difference, but that’s false. you can get more dynamic 200% at 320 iso and 400% a 640 iso . Do some test you will be surprised the more detail you can get.
Elias Pap I tend to shoot wide open, so iso 640 Would be overexposed. Also for raws what it does is change the tone curve. I use a customized tone curve for my edit. I prefer dr 100 percent.
Nice. I particularly appreciate the custom settings. It never occurred to me to set the jpegs to small so you could send manageable files to your phone while keeping the raws for later.
Reggie Ballesteros Do you have issues with the iPhone Fuji app and transferring files? Mine keeps looking for the camera. I finally got it to transfer one at a time but it was a huge pain.
Bro I used all you settings and watched your video 3 times. However all my pictures come out extremely under exposed now. This was super helpful, that's for sure!
@@Reggiebphoto Might wanna put a disclaimer at the start of the video about what you said above...unless you were going for the M. Night Shyamalan ending...surprise all your photos will be under exposed after watching my 23 min video!
Hi…100v on order….I am curios if the latest firmware impacted any of your settings from this video….which was under firmware 1.0. Thank you….looking forward to your upcoming class this fall! Jim
Thank you for this. I have not own an X series or a fuji since SLRs. I come from Canon G-series. This video helped me a lot. As a matter of fact, I have not shot a DSLR in some time. Do you ever cover setting up just focus/auto-focus etc? I saw in the video you showed us which settings you prefer. Just would like to know "why"? Thanks again for the intro video.
Quite useful - albeit rather rapidly raced through. You WILL need to use the Pause button - a Lot - if you’re trying to follow even a few of these settings in your own X100V. One day, I’ll find out what I have to do to get the Flash to work on my new X100V - but at the moment it’s stuck firmly in the ‘OFF’ mode… So if your presenter could go (slowly), through basic settings like Flash, that would be Very useful..!
This is just a settings breakdown of what I use. It’s not operation manual or settings explanation of every camera function unfortunately . I don’t use flash on my x100v so I didn’t cover it.
Hi, if you press on the Q button on the top right of the cam, you will see the quick setting for the flash there. Just tap it then some other options will come out like TTL etc.
Hi Reggie thanks for the detailed run down , would you have a link to any photos showing how this classic chrome setting you have shared should look please.
Really Helpful! Thank you. Lots of pausing & playing around as you went through it. Like a few comments on here it would have been interesting to know exactly what some of the setting mean for beginners, but I imagine it would have been a lot longer had you explained what everything meant. Thanks again.
great video - I just bought an X100V - at 19:39 you show two settings for the front command dial - I'm confused about that - I can only get it to change ISO
The image settings that you change in the camera only apply to the jpegs. The RAW file is always going to come out the same not matter how "flat" you try to set it up.
The histogram and highlight warning is based on the image settings. I’ve experimented that pro negative standard with -2 highlights and 0 shadows allows me to have the highlight warning be at the same point of clipping for my raw file in Lightroom. The 0 shadows allows me to to not introduce unneeded underexposure. I’m very aware that image settings don’t affect the raws. But the in camera metering and exposure guides ARE based on the jpeg settings unfortunately. So with experimentation you can calibrate the shadow clipping and highlight clipping you are comfortable with in the raw processor of to choice and apply the appropriate image setting that reflects these thresholds. Let me know if this makes sense
To further illustrate, Let’s say you have highlight warnings on. Let’s imagine With classic chrome (high contrast look) the highlights blink at 1/500s. On eterna (low contrast look) the highlights blink at 1/250s. But when you important the raw into Lightroom, you find that true highlight clipping happens at 1/400s. I’ve calibrated my highlight and shadow image settings so that when using pro neg std, the highlight warning blinks at shutter speeds less than 1/400s, and stops blinking above 1/400s. This is a calibrated and calculated image quality setting that’s aligned with the clipping points of raw files in Lightroom.
Hi, Reggie. Thanks for your help. I would like to turn off the histogram during photo review. I edit on the computer not on the camera. I need to reverse your setting which produced this. Thanks again
Awesome video. And helpful. Can I also use these settings for fuji xs10? Just bought xs10 and loved it. Or maybe you can also do best settings for fuji xs10? Would really appreciate it. Thanks.😊 Love ur vidoes. 😊
Thank you, I have downloaded it and plugged in my camera. I have downloaded acquire. It says pc shoot mode is incorrect. Change pc shoot mood to USB auto at the set up connection setting menu of camera I cannot find these options! And restore camera settings on the acquire app are greyed out. Any ideas anyone?! Thank you x
@@ifyouseekpoppy I just battled this out myself. On the X100V go to Menu->Wrench->Connection Setting->PC Connection Mode and select USB RAW CONV./BACKUP RESTORE. At this point the XAcquire Backup and Restore settings options were enabled/no longer grayed out.
@@Reggiebphoto Like it's good to see what settings you use but as someone who doesn't know what most of them actually do, I'm just as lost as I was before the video
my apologies. complete noob here. my first real camera past a phone camera. trying to figure things out and thank you for your video. super detailed and informative. just one question. you set the aperture ring setting to auto but unless i set it to command, the control ring up front doesn’t do anything when pressed (switching between aperture and iso). it only works when iso is set to c and i control the iso by turning. am i doing something wrong..?
Hi Reggie, this video setup of your settings is great, thanks. Can you explain how you set your ISO set to C and SS to T to gain full control of these via front and rear dials @19:45. What is your ISO, SS and A set at when you are twisting your dials to achieve full control? Thanks
These are really helpful, but I think there is a setting that's preventing me from being able to use my off-camera flash and hot shoe. Do you have any advice on which settings?
Hi! I can't get my flash to work on this camera. Tried everything. Mechanical shutter mode is on, volume is up, set in single shot, etc any still no luck. The flash just says off and won't give me any options. Any tips?
Hello, when I set the AF Mode to "All" the number of focus points is grayed out. The only way to change the number is to set AF to single point. Is there something I'm not following correctly? I see you have AF mode to ALL and your focus points are still enabled. Thank you.
Hi Reggie, great video, I just received my X100v. I download your xdat file, I'm a bit lost on how to load this to my x100. any tips would be appreciated. I did download to Fuji app, opened it to the mac folder to start to app, that's were I'm a bit confused, Thanks in advance, Tom
It depends on the lighting. Usually window light in my home is a good time to use the warm. But when the indoor lights are turned on in my home, the cooler base version works better. In general classic chrome is cool temp. So the warm is just for when I think it’s too cool and want to warm up skin tones
Extremely useful guide to your X100v settings. Only thing I’m not sure about on the camera is HDR. Is it on by default or off by default? And what about the HDR presets - how do they work? Thanks.
just the jpeg. on the raw, if you apply an aspect other than 3:2, it will import with the crop applied, but if you reset the crop in your raw editor it will revert back to the oringal 3:2 at the original resolution
Very helpful and alway enjoy your enthusiasm! Don't understand why music is added in the background. I find it very distracting from your message, jmho.
Hey quick question? Why is it when i put my auto iso setting i will put min iso 100 max iso 3200 and min ss 200 and when i go to shoot my iso always stay at 3200 and my shutter speed dropes below 200?
ISO going to max AND shutterspeed dropping below is because there is not enough light to shoot at 1/200 s. The camera will go slower than your desired shutterspeed. It's best to set max ISO to the highest value. The camera won't go there necessarily but it can help keep the SS fast enough. Pal2Tec has a really good video explaining Auto ISO on Fujifilm cameras: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1eE1qAXntrg.html
hi reggie, after i copy all your settings, when i took a photo it takes a longer time now to save, it shows "storing" on the lcd after taking a photo, before it does not do that?
Hey reggie, have a question about the film simulations, so i customized and edit the film simulations, when i press the q button, i can choose from the customized film simulation, but what about the other default film simulations? Can i still use that and disregard the custom film simulation?im just confused on what will the camera choose…the custom or the film simulations?
One thing missing on the 100V is the viewfinder button!! I choose to set the Function 1 button to View Mode. At times, I like to have the option of operating my camera using only the eye sensor/viewfinder only option. This prevents the back of my camera from lighting up (to be more discrete in a performance for instance). Also, for this type of operation it is important to set Image Display to OFF! This way, I can always hit playback at my discretion for a quick look of my last image as needed.
Reggie , couple points of information. Your delivery is way too fast! Cut back by 50% you are attempting to educate here, not win a race! Additionally the background music is distracting and completely unnecessary, what do you think it adds to your presentation..... nothing.. I want to hear your dialogue not stupid music! Please give the above some consideration please!
