Literally just saw a “review” on this camera where the guy said I haven’t used this camera yet and don’t plan on using it but the autofocus isn’t up to par. 🤦🏾♂️ 👎 Thanks for the real world take on this camera great video.
@@Brandon-of3ij that sort of take on anything at all makes ne wonder why someone would even put out a (nonreview) video. I find that funny as I have been. Long time user of Fuji cameras from the gfx 50s and then to the 100s. I moved over to Hasselblad X system All amazing but then there are a barrage of anti-(non)users with very strong opinions with zero reference to skill or usecase that makes any sense that tends to fuel ignorance and fanboy-isms that like to compare cameras to each other that are like chalk and cheese 🧀 . These tools all work for a job of your choice but more importantly, if they do not inspire you to create then they fail. That part of the equation of Photography is lost at the moment on some people. You need to like what you are using as well or you will not use it. /endrant
This was a very good real use review. The most annoying thing is that 99% of the people saying nonsense about the XH2S are those that don't own the camera. I have used it for more than 4 months as my run and gun camera and can say it performs way better than my A7SIII in every area, which I can't honestly remember the last time I even used it.
Nice review from a real world experience. I’m a professional videographer and I just upgraded from the xt4 to the Xh2s. What an amazing hybrid camera it is. On the video side I could immediately tell the difference in the speed, ibis, ergonomics and AF. I will no longer be looking for a better camera like when I owned the xt4.
I shot video for an event with my xt4 for. I wasn’t a fan of the constant in and out focus happening. I’m not thinking I should get the X-H2S. While I’m not a fan of the joystick location for photos, I’m gonna use it for video almost exclusively.
So I received my xh2s about a month ago and oh man you were not lying, I shot with the A9,a92 for over 7 years together. and i jump ship to the canon and fell in love with it. But I have always had a few fujis in my home as it is my favorite system to shoot. I Loved the xh2s so much that I bout the xh2 today and will be using both for a college basketball game today...so excited bro thats all.
love this thorough breakdown on your experience with the camera bro! fuji did their thing with the xh2 series! gotta decide which one i’m going to get 🤔
Coming from a Sony A1, A7SIII, FX3, A7IV, a7R3,4,5.All GM Glass. I just had for FujiFilm for less then a month tried the T30ii then the X-T5 then the X-H2 within a month and no not switching too heavily invested. But purchased the X-H2S and just amazed and satisfied with the results I get in video and images. The experience and learning curve was painless. The results that I get from the H2S from video and photos, I can honestly say I wish I knew what I know now before spending thousands going down the Sony rabbit hole. Guess I had to learn the hard way. But yes. The ultimate hybrid holds its own against all Sony models mentioned above. Thanks for video Dee Rosa,……………………………. I would also agree one of the best cameras I’ve ever owned.
Thanks for actually using your equipment on actual work that your attaining for your business most photography youtubers just make mini demo events for themselves and do a quick video about it and then do studio tests to check the quality of the iso and urgonomics of the camera. That method will never be as good as actually testing it on your own work your hired to do which shows they don't like to take risks and I'f thats the case how can you expect your viewers to trust the other youtubers reviews and take that risk in their stead.
Thanks. It’s a bxxch at first always. My hard got used to the 1DX so I missed some shots but I got into it and trusted the camera more and I had a blast.
I love the camera, I have made similar videos. Some people still complain about the price, but they seeming forget a lot of the spec, and that it is stacked, and that stacked sensors are more expensive to design and manufacture. Yet still they say but what about the R6 etc etc. I'm like stacked.. + everything else like 4k120 no 4k 60 crop, weather sealing. I sold my R6 for this camera, I mean there is nothing on the market at this price point that matches this spec for the price. It is truly amazing for the camera for the price. In my opinon it is the best camera out right now, in terms of practicality and room to grow and spec. The results speak for themsevles, and it can contend with the likes of the Sony A1, R3, Z9 in everyway.
That’s the thing - for the price it’s the best camera you can buy. Is it an R3? No and I said such. But is it better than a Z6ii or Z7ii if you don’t care about MP? Yeah. Is it better than an A7IV. Yeah, I tried them side by side. It’s just a great damn camera.
Yeah, I was kind of wondering about the fact that the body Fuji made the most noise about was videocentric. Then, they made the XH-2 without a stacked sensor. The one thing I was quite pleased about was something you really stressed...the price. It's the same way I felt two years ago when I bought my XT-3. It was the best camera for the money. Or, at least based upon what I could afford. I won't be able to afford either new XH camera any time soon. But, at some point there will be a used market when the next new thing comes along. Really good video Dee! Have a great week.
This review has been more helpful than the handful of reviews that I've watched on this camera. Great to see you use it on the job and explain the benefits of the stacked sensor and how you can use it in fast paced environments. I definitely think that didn't come across in the marketing like you said. Excellent review!
I like that you have a pragmatic approach to gear, especially for gear that is put through the wringer and not treated like a baby coz let's face it, when we're shooting we don't have the time to baby our tools. This thing can stand toe-to-toe with anything out there as a workhorse camera. When I first felt it in hand, I already knew it will continue the X-H1's cult status, and after seeing how it performs, I have no doubt about it. From the X-T2 Fuji already had a pretty damn good camera, and every iteration of their pro bodies after that just improved on what we wanted and how we wanted it (case in point - the X-Pro 3). Now they're just honing in on perfection. Anyway, Thanks for the video man. Love watching your stuff. Whether your content is about gear or not, you always have value to offer and I appreciate that.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on sports photography with the camera. I’ve been using mine for travel video / photo. We’re the images you showed here JPEG only files? What recipe have you been using edit choices have you been making? The color looks amazing!
I was going for the Nikon Z6III, but now I'm determined to switch to Fuji system. I doubt between the Xs20 and this one, I know that this one is much better, but I don't know if for my use as a hobbyist the XS20 would be enough.. on the other hand, I'd like to ask you... the eye AF when there are several people... can't you choose which one to focus on? In Nikon I think you just control with the cursor from one to another person Thank you for the video and work
Yeh, sold off the A7iv after seeing how good the XH2s is. I honestly did not expect Fuji to make such a leap forward in one go. Fuji colors and ergonomics with Sony level Af is a wonderful thing.
@@AqworldsAuildere Yes. I prefer the Fuji, but it's really a wash either way. Sony still does 1 or 2 things better and Canon does 1 or 2 things better and Nikon does 1 or 2 things better, but overall Fuji does more things better that are important to me. The dealbreakers for Sony for me are the colors, size, weight, cost, build quality and lack of a decent repair facility in the US.
I cannot enjoy shooting with Sony. I don't know why. A mix of ergonomics, menus, UI, sometimes weird raw files (the colors), I don't know. So I'm looking for a change of system: Canon (with adapted EF lenses), Nikon or Fuji. Panasonic isn't present in my country, at least not officially. So, I'm confused a lot. I'll wait for Nikon new cameras and I will decide then. What do you think is better for a hobbyist that want to learn more about photography? Canon, Nikon or Fuji?
FINALLY!!! I have to say you are spot on. Fujifilm FUBAR'd the marketing for this release and the X-H2, as well. I only started investigating how these cameras would perform for my needs was after the X-T5 announcement. I picked up the X-H2s... I got rid of both my Sony A7IV and A7SIII! Now I'm impatiently waiting for my X-H2 to be delivered. Being able to reap the benefits of a stacked sensor at this price point is just CRAZY! I'm glad that I took it upon myself to get more hands-on with the camera instead of basing my use case and buying decisions solely off of online reviews.
Curious to see your thoughts on the X-H2 or X-T5, surely the speed of X-H2S is better for most of your sports work but I’d be interested in your real world experience with the extra resolution and if it makes enough of a difference
I have both, 2 really different cameras. The 40mp sensor in X-H2 is so far turning out to be Fuji's best yet. It's not just the resolution, but there's a film like smoothness to the images that's just addictive. I think people will be raving about the Xt5 when it is released to the wild.
@@EdwardMartinsPhotography I have decided to trade my XT4 for the XH2. The XT5 in my opinion has the dials and flip up screen, but misses on other features that the XT4 has. I will miss the dials but gain 8k, better elvf, a full HDMI, CF express slots for faster video and burst shots, battery grip feature, and a bigger grip for my large hands for 300.00 more.
@@technodronesogxl9783 The pricing on the XH2 makes it the best value for money of the three. But they're all inexpensive compared to the competition for what they can do. It's a great camera and I am having a tough time ordering an XT5.
@@EdwardMartinsPhotography agreed......the XH2s is compelling no matter which way you go, and here states side I can get it for 2199.00 I an new to Fuji, and I have the viltrox 13mm 1.4 and the fuji 18 55mm lens. Since yhe XH2S is 2199.00 it almost makes me choose it over the XH2.
@@technodronesogxl9783 If you need 4K120 or shoot a lot of sports/action get the S, if you do landscape stills or not a lot of sports/action or have no need for slow motion video, get the non-S.
Thank you for your honest opinion, long time Fuji user and I agree the H2s just blows every other Fuji camera out of the water. I've only had mine for a few weeks and I'm adjusting to the one dial, but I love the camera. I shoot mostly wildlife and HS sports and I normally use zone focus or single shooting sports. It was interesting that you used wide tracking. In the past I've not had much success with Fujis wide tracking. Going to shoot a HS basketball game tonight and I'm going to give it a try.
I just jumped up from the xt2 just this week and had a play with it this weekend. And eve with my older ‘slower’ lenses the camera is a marked improvement. As you say a camera I can keep for many years. I just want that firmware update for the iso dial
I would basically disagree with you in principle about the video side of things if Fuji actually fixed the aperture stepping problem! If they had that sorted then it becomes practically as valid a hybrid system as other brands on the market currently with the additional benefit of Fuji colours. As is... anyone who really knows video properly will know about this issue and see as a major deal breaker. All the clickless aperture rings in the world won't help with this, so I am left partly confused at the monstrous effort on the video front by Fuji for the XH series to STILL have this basic problem hanging over their heads... :/
Yeah I’m also in the camp that if people want a real video rig for work they don’t buy Fuji so I never took it seriously but that’s why I just shoot video for work on clickless lenses. Nothing to be too excited about - those who know what to do just do it and don’t really have to complain.
Great video! I see the X-H2 and X-H2s being the Sony A7r and Sony A7s for Fujifilm. As a videographer, I’m happy Fujifilm is making the jump and catering to both video and photo. Just sold some of my Sony stuff for the X-h2s
I see the XH2s as their A9 or A1 series. XH2s is so much more than video and with the stacked sensor if you use it for only that you’re severely missing out. The XT5 can be their A7s.
@@DeeRosa But the X-T5 has 40 megapixel and all the manual dials. Tbh, Fujifilm already has the X-Pro3, X-T5, X-E4, x100v, and the X-H2 as photography focused cameras with basically the same sensors. Its nice that Fujifilm came out with an entirely new camera model that has great video specs and codecs instead of changing their other cameras like they tried doing with the X-T4. I’m not sure why some photographers won’t let Fujifilm grow as a company.
@@DeeRosa Yeah you are also right about it being similar to an A9 or A1 with stacked sensors but what I am saying is, the X-T5 is a great prosumer photography camera so if they were to turn it into a video focused camera it would get so much hate understandably like the X-T4 got from a lot of photographers. The reason why I looked at the X-H2s similar to the a7s is because they kept it in the same tree but gave it so much benefit for video
Ohhhhh sorry man I got confused cause the run on sentences. Yeah I feel you. But honestly I don’t look at them like the Sony lineups at all. I look at them like canon R3, R5 and R6
This camera brought me back to Fuji. I loved it at the track so much, I sold all my Sony gear, including the A9. The updates have improved AF even more. Picked up an XH2 as a second camera as well. Love Nostalgic Neg as well!!
@@joshuahamilton7385 definitely. The XH2s is a much better wildlife camera. They keep improving AF too. Now on version 3.0 and it’s quite a bit better than it was at launch.
@@joshuabachand1283 I sometimes miss that full frame look. Idc what people say, there is a slight difference. However, I’m happy with the Fuji experience. I would rent the setup you’re wanting first. Make sure you like the final product. I’m getting the images I like, specifically colors. The AF on Sony is just easier to dial in. It’s more automatic, if that makes sense. Fuji AF settings are more complicated to learn I guess.
There is a FF look - and it’s only there because people don’t understand that you don’t apply crop factor to anything but field of view. Once you stop applying it to aperture or focal length you realize that a 50mm on Fujifilm is JUST a 50mm. Not a 75mm. If you shoot an EF 50mm f1.2 L on an EOS R and then adapt it to a Fuji body it’s THE SAME CHARACTER just one has a cropped in field of view.
I'm going to start my semi-Professional career in Photography next year just getting everything preprepared set up money's saved etc. etc. Plus, I'm thinking about RU-vid videos as well? Thanks for your time and information. Great ideas you bring to the table relating to photography.
No relevant firmware updates and no improvements since release (the XT4 never has got any all, burried with release), that's really frustrating and a reason to leave the system, if they don't change their policy dominated by cost saving rules. Nikon is hammering out one stellar update after another for their Z9. Fujifilm is happy when they could reduce the tendency of the XH2/s to freeze... Using the XH2s and the XH2, both struggle (better: fail) with subject recognition and tracking when there are many persons on the field, no matter what AF C setting used. Both hate sunny days. 30-40 minutes in bright sunlight at an average summer day, 25-27⁰C air temperature, and they shut down, even when not used and just turned on for a short burst.
Shutting down in 27° weather??? It’s reached up to 34° in LA since I got the camera and i haven’t even felt the body warm up. Nor does the af “fail.” Hours in the blazing los angeles sun during weddings and haven’t experienced one of the exaggerations you’ve mentioned Just running your mouth
Sorry don’t get upset at me, I promise I’m not trolling just finished the video. But full frame fairs better in low light. And the Bokeh is usually better when paired again flagship fast lenses on each side. I get he Fuji XH2 is better on most ways than the A7IV, but the Sony full frame A7IV can always win out in that scenario. This is the only reason why I don’t use Fuji personally for my paid work. I’m sure it’s fine for that but I like full frame. If they ever make a dream camera (the never will) make a Xt4 / XH2 hybrid with stacked sensor in full frame than I’d be sporting a Fuji. But for now gonna just have fun with the older Xe1 a speed-booster and some vintage FD glass.
I’d disagree as someone who came from Sony FF and the “bokeh” thing is because people don’t understand the difference between DOF and focal length but hey man if you enjoy FF keep going.
Ask yourself this question: have you ever shot a professional job where the client said to you that the results aren’t good enough because you didn’t use a full frame camera (or in your case, a medium format camera)? Do you shoot a job with both full frame and aspc side-by-side, same shot, same everything in equivalence? I can tell you for a fact that you are going to get very very similar results shooting the X-H2 (40 megapixel) with the XF50mm F1 and Sony A74 with the 85mm F1.4 GM but with much better colour science and skin tones from Fujifilm. Yes, physics is physics and the Fuji will always have more noise at higher ISOs than FF. But, if you have ever shot with a Fuji X-Trans sensor before, even though there is more visible noise above ISO 3000, the noise from the Fuji looks more like film grains than digital noise coming out of a Sony camera.
@@ryanhoviolin I fully realize that you can shoot professionally with APsc read my comment. But for me I like full frame better I shoot lot of events at night. So I lean toward that. Yes you right it’s physics ApSc falls apart faster vs full frame. No question
People like to express some form of control when they have none in their lives. Complaining on the internet to someone they will never meet about something they know nothing about gives them this type of self vindication. It's sad, but prevalent in todays society. That being said, I LOVE my X-H2S, nice, thoughtful review. Thanks for making this.
@@VictorGee I use the XF16-55mm f/2.8. Although Fujifilm has a list of recommended lenses, it is not accurate enough. I tried my XF80mm Macro lens for example which is in the recommended list of lenses and it loses about a stop of light due to the 49mp sensor. My suggestion is to try out the lenses on the camera before you buy them. But for sure 100% the XF16-55mm works really nice. Furthermore the X-H2 is the only camera in the world right now which can output 8k30fps video signal thru HDMI. Not even the X-H2S cab do that.
Sports photography is almost as difficult as wildlife( birds in flight) photography. My question is ; what lens do you use for low light events like nighttime games ? 50-140 is a cracking lens, but much too short for sports or wildlife photography. Do you use the 200 f2 ? It’s out of budget for 99% of people, and there is no other mid priced long zooms available. I think that’s holding back a lot of photography enthusiasts. The X-H2S looks fantastic, but it’s held back by the lack of serious glass available.
They 50-140 isn’t too short for sports; maybe for wildlife but for sports it’s not only essential but for 90% of moments it is perfect. That’s why a shot list is so important. You position yourself where you have the best chance for impactful images but even with a longer lens you can’t guarantee to get THE shot. I do use a 200 f2 or the Sigma 120-300 if I’m shooting on DSLR but both of those are not as reliable due to the focal length only being usable in areas where the most impactful action (goals, TD in end-zone, at bats, under basketball goals) isn’t happening. That’s why they only account for 10% of images and are just used if I need a specific image of a specific player or moment for a shot list. I don’t understand the gripe of serious glass - if you shoot wildlife I completely get it. But I’ve shot sports for 7 years now with Max Preps, PBR, MLB affiliates, USL, MLS and I’ve always relied on 3 focal lengths for 90% of my images and EVERY other sports photog would agree - 70-200, 24-70 & 50 equivalents. I’ve shot that with Canon, Nikon, Sony and now Fujifilm. Shooting sports on assignment is just so different because it’s hard to understand how CLOSE you are to the action and the requests for images are way different than you’d expect. So the 50-140 (70-200 equiv) is the ONE lens every sports photog NEEDS and will stay glued to one body at ALL times to be successful. The XH2s is great regardless but I think the desire for longer glass is always gonna be there for everyone with Fujifilm and hopefully Sigma or Tamron beings that. But until then I have to admit that I don’t even grab the longer telephoto lengths more than once or twice a season due to the fact that it is TOO long.
I was going to buy the X-T5 next week, but they took away the additional grip with more batteries. Now I will consider the XH2S instead. I have had every XT model up to the X-T4, which I have now. I am also a pro.
I am glad that they finally have a camera which can do awesome videos. I was waiting for this. Majorly, I am doing photography, but I wanted to do wedding videos in this film simulation look without overheating etc.
I’m eager to test the XH2 and XH2s cameras out over the next few weeks shooting NCAA and pro sports, as well as portraiture. I’m coming off the Paris Olympics and my Sony a9iii and Sony A1, very curious to see how these new (and awesome looking) XH cameras perform!
I did some concert photography with it the other night because I still had my camera after an engagement party I'll post a vid on it. You are correct this camera is absolutely insane.
Oh, yeah; regarding companies emphasizing vlogging features: The companies have to sell tens of thousands of cameras to make a profit. And how many real active vloggers are there? One thousand? 5 thousand? I don't know, but it's a small fraction of the cameras they need to sell. As a stills photographer I'm a little tired of watching camera reviews that go into deep detail about the damn flippy screen, and how well the IS or VR or whatever works for taking selfy videos while walking around. The people who make the review videos are obviously vloggers and that's fair enough, but most of the audience are not. Because I don't want my friend's brains to melt from boredom, I've never videoed myself walking around and never will. I need to find images that are actually interesting and creative. I'm also curious about what percentage of the recently increased $2500 price of new cameras is because of video features that I will never use. OK, sorry, end of rant. Love your videos; recently subscribed. Happy New Year!
Not only is the XH2s an excellent camera but it saves you a lot of money. They have some incredible fast and sharp lens. And the 3rd party lens support is off the chart. Viltrox and Sigma alone make some amazing cheap lens for this camera. I use the XH2s exclusively for video and night photography and the XT5 for all other work.
Very good review. You make a point that a lot of other reviewers seem to have missed, which is that this camera sits at the intersection of performance and usability due to the stacked sensor and ergonomics. (No surprise, I've been an X-H2S owner since it launched). Anyway, I'm curious to know how you made use of the custom shooting modes if you care to share your insights there.
C1 - 15fps Mechanical, Auto ISO C2 - 15fps Mechanical, FULL M C3 - 30fps Electronic, FULL M C4 - Single Shot Mechanical, TTL, Auto ISO More detail in each but that was the short n skinny of it.
Awesome coverage Brother. I have been going down this rabbit hole 🕳️ to get real life understanding of this Camera. I Shoot Luxury Weddings currently using 3 - S5 II & 1 -S5 IIX very happy in this area. But I am a Wedding Photographer first and use a Canon EOS R, again happy in the output but really was to upgrade this Camera. Hence, My dilemma.. heavily invested in Lumix S glass & Canon L Glass (EF Mount) to share with my LUMIX Bodies… but not sold on the Sony A7IV or Canon R6 II rush. Since I have good video coverage, I would still like another Hybrid to replace the R… Photo but 5th Video Angle if need be. Stubbornly I don’t want to learn another system but I’m lending toward FujiFilm but the FujiFilm users are like, “I wish this wasn’t changed from the other versions” or “this takes so getting used to” 😅 puts me off some. I love how your Boy said Tracking down the isle for Weddings was spot on…. And for me this would be a gimbal cam outside of Photography but then it looks like I’m wasting all the capabilities of this Camera versus throwing something less expensive on the gimbal 😅 So on the fence since this upgrade will cost me about $1500 after I find a good buyer for the R.
15 fps is already a lot and I wonder if we need higher values? It just takes more time selecting and editing photos. Especially if the hit rate goes up with those new generation of sensors. So the one question I can't seem to answer is: Can the XH2 buffer keep up? I know the autofocus is still better on the XH2s, but is it a significant difference? What if you only shoot 15fps mechanical, the camera and sensor can keep up and can have a 40 megapixel sensor... Seems like best of both. Don't we sometimes just focus too much on specs alone?
Hey man - if you don’t work in an environment that needs more than 15fps then I’m sure you’re good with the XT5 or a Canon EOS R. These specs were discussed because I have to use them for my job. They were used in certain moments where I needed 30fps. I get what you’re saying but this is not the video to do that on lmao. I’m sure the XH2 can handle it but probably not at the same extended rate. If you want 40mp because you like the idea of having more resolution just say that but what you just said to me is like telling a chef “we focus on the ingredients too much” and then ask if they can make a cake without cake mix and water lmao.
@@DeeRosa Hey man, I don’t fully agree with you here and ridiculing his question is not needed either. In fact his question seems valid and an answer from you - someone that actually puts his gear through its paces and talks no bs - can be extremely valuable. I saw that at least one of your custom settings is 15fps mechanical. You don’t mention what you shoot most at. So perhaps, the option of 15fps at 40mp, with the tradeoff that you wouldn’t have the 30fps and lightning fast afc anymore, could be appealing to you. I guess you answered that question already here above albeit a bit (and unnecessarily) aggressive imho. Btw fyi the xt5 has a buffer of 20 shots I believe, so not really up for the task. Those SD cards just cannot handle those 40mp bursts. Anyway thnx for sharing your experience in a no-nonsense straightforward manner. Subscriped.
Please reread my response without the assumption I was ridiculing his question - because I wasn’t. Stop assuming you know the tone and just read the information.
best review of this camera honestly - appreciate the real world testing. 90% of reviews are just b-roll of shit that people don't need or use in real world!
Thanks for the great review, man, nice to hear words from someone who used this camera on field. It will be precious in the coming days and weeks in order to get my mind clearer on the next step I'm gonna take: I have a X-T4 at the moment, mainly for sports photography, it's a great camera, I love it, but when it comes to AF on action it's not as reliable as I'd wish it was. So I'm now in between the "upgrade your gear by downgrading to old flagship cameras" philosophy you talked about in another video (Sony A9 II comes into play here), and the chance to switch to the X-H2s, which would allow me to keep my beloved Fuji lenses with me (16-55 f/2.8 + 50-140 f/2.8) and saving a huuuuuge amount of money.
It's not just Fujifilm; Sony and Olympus have also stopped including chargers with their cameras. (And maybe others.). This reduces their cost by maybe $10 or 15 dollars, while they are increasing prices from an average of $1700 or $1800 to $2200 or $2500. And since many buyers will purchase an add-on charger, it increases their revenue by $50 or$75. I've had to buy 3 chargers, because I don't want the camera to be out of service, plugged into the wall, while I charge 2 or 3 batteries. I think this is simply sleazy. Their $2500 camera is REALLY $2550 ,and the extra $50 is almost pure profit. There's nothing we can do about this, other than refusing to buy the cameras, which ain't gonna happen.
About whether someone would buy Sony A7 IV over Fujifilm X-2Hs: yeah, plenty would, myself included. To paraphrase a president, "It's the lenses, stupid!" If one photographs people, the Zeiss Batis 85 f/1.8, Zeiss Planar 50 mm f/1.4, Sony 100 f/2.8 GM STF (STF is an old Minolta technology), Tamron 35-200 f/2-2.8 are all unique lenses for Sony. For the Fujifilm, some reasons would be the 8-16 mm f/2.8 or 10-24 mm f/4 - unique lenses for mirrorless. First think of what lens you want, then buy the "digital back" for it.
i get why fuji targets the video market. there are so many great stills cameras out there but if you want good video specs, 4k60 with stab, doesnt overheat in 10 min, decent lens selection, good autofocus, then there arent that many options
hey man! thank u so much for this video, such a good review, nothing to add.. just a question; how do u handle the fuji raw? do u use adobe or the suggested programs from fuji? thank u so much
Hi! Good video! I have not liked Fujifilm's latest models at all. I like the X-T5, but it doesn't have a battery grip. I like the X-H2 and X-H2S, but I hate the full articulating screen and I don't like the CF card. I'll have to wait for the X-T6 and X-H3 to see if I get lucky and get it right for me! I want a camera with the battery grip of the H2, the screen of the X-T5, dual SD slot, IBIS, stacked sensor and good focus!
Detailed description. I am bird enthusiast from India, should I go for X T5 or X H2S for Bird photography, kindly suggest. May be X H2, But price is high
For non-sports shooting styles, the X-H2 is sufficient. This camera also costs less and has 40 megapixels. Not that I feel a huge difference, but it gives more options to crop
Nice review. Now that the X-T5 is announced, we know their strategy a bit better. Presumably an updated X-Pro is coming as well. They muddled the waters a bit with the X-T4 as a hybrid video camera, now they've gone back to their roots to make the X-T line the Photographer's camera, and the X-H line their high-end Hybrid do-it-all camera - after all, that IS what the H stands for. I totally get that the stacked sensor of the X-H2s is better for action shooters, be it sports or wildlife, and the deeper grip suits larger lenses. Though that is an area where Canon and Nikon are still king in long lenses.
Yeah - they sure do have more for the lens mount in canon & Nikon but honestly I use the same focal lengths regardless so I never feel like I’m missing out. As I’ve said many times in this section I think it’s easy to ASSUME I’d want 3 or 4 different king lenses but to swap bodies and lenses means you’re missing action and long lenses don’t help when you have action at home plate, at the goal, or in an endzone. Sports is more than long focal lengths but marketing made people believe otherwise. The focal lengths Fujifilm has actually are great. I’m never wanting.
Also I feel the need to say I’m not a Fujifilm rep and get no kickback. They aren’t the best in any regard to me. But they’re great and do the damn job. That’s all I can ask for.
@@DeeRosa Didn't think you were, but good to know, I use an X-T3 myself, and would love the new X-T5, and the X-H2/2s sounds incredible as well. But I see the latter as more videocentric, and to me they're starting to look more like all the rest, namely Canon/Nikon/Sony, so it has less appeal to me. I like the styling of the silver X-T line; I had all-black Canons in the past, the silver Fujis give me good analog Pentax vibes, and I expect Fuji's film cameras were similar..All the others are fantastic workhorse cameras too, but doesn't speak to me, The other thing that attracted me to Fuji is that they are the only ones taking APS-C seriously, with Canon it was a gateway to selling more expensive full-frame, and all the quality lenses were for full-frame, so why bother with APS-C? It's no coincidence the only lenses I have left for my Canon 80D, which doesn't see so much use now, are Sigma lenses designed for APS-C. I fall in the category of "serous enthusiast", so price and size is important to me, as is styling. Unfortunately my budget doesn't stretch to any of the new cameras ATM.
I'm not a Fuji shooter but looking into the system. Thanks for the thorough review, but I don't quite understand your criticism of the rollout. Maybe you and I were looking at different sources, but it seems pretty clear to me what Fuji is doing. The X-H2S is for speed, and the X-H2 is for power/resolution. They used the word power but I prefer resolution. I thought that came across pretty clearly in their marketing. These are also both clearly hybrid cameras as the line was always meant to be. Now, tomorrow we will have the X-T5 which will be a photography-centric camera, which while missing a few features seems to improve on the X-T4 and is really only missing some of the advanced features of the X-H line. So to me they are giving pretty clear choices based on what the user is looking for (hybrid vs. stills-centric, speed vs- power/resolution). I don't see how Fuji is ignoring their fanbase or "bending the knee" to bloggers. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your gripe, is it simply in the marketing? Like were their advertisements too centered around video? Or do you think they should have changed something about the camera lineup to better appeal to their core users. From what I've read, I haven't seen many complaints about the rumors around the X-T5 for current X-T users. From the outside looking in, I think Fuji really understands their audience. They make a broad range of camera bodies that appeal to different sets of users, the vast majority of them photo-centric. Now they have two flagships that are true hybrid powerhouses, but the rest of the lines will still benefit from these advancements, whether it be the X1006 or the X-Pro 4. I wouldn't switch over the Fuji for the X-T5, for example, because I prefer a PASM dial, but I would for the X-H2 or X-H2S. So now they are bringing in some new users to the system while still keeping the current users happy. Like I said, maybe I am misreading your comments, but personally I love what Fuji is doing and it's what is really making me think hard about switching over and building a Fuji system. Thanks again for the vid and curious to hear more of your thoughts.
@@nickcarneyphotography as I stated in the video I wish they would have educated people on what the stacked sensor can do for photographers. They just talked about af and wildlife. The same way the Canon R5 made a mistake with not talking about how great the camera was for stills Fuji did the same thing.
@@DeeRosa I think I still disagree but again, perhaps we were reading different sources/watching different videos. But I guess there’s always room to improve.
I'm not sure what marketing material you saw. All I see on the X-H2S' product page about the new sensor's speed capabilities is ,"An improved AF prediction algorithm alongside X-Trans CMOS 5 HS and X-Processor 5 provides a major boost to subject tracking and autofocus accuracy on moving objects, most notably in Zone AF and low-contrast conditions." To me they are just using generic words to say we've improved our product. I guess you could call it under selling the achievement of their stacked sensor. I saw Fujifilm has a history time line on the site it shows the new sensor but it doesn't why the sensor is a big deal.
Thanks for this great review - I just got the Fuji XH-2 and so far I am very happy. First I wanted to sell my XT-4, but I am also happy that I kept it. I really like both cameras and both will have a place. Greetings from Munich and Merry Christmas. Keep on with your good work and channel. Volker
I got that Fuji X-E1, X-E2, X-M1, X-T1, X-H1, Nikon D-40x, D-200, D-700FX, D-7000, Nikon 1 J1, Panasonic waterproof point & shoot plus older canon camera bodies a couple film camera cellphones etc. etc. On a budget buying low selling high saving money always looking for deals on all the online selling platforms.
Great review. Thank you. I've been researching my new mirrorless purchase as i've not bought a body since my Pentax K20d. I think i'll plummet for the XT5, but i am quite tempted to go for the XH2S instead as half of my shooting is runners and active dogs.
I would wish for a more prosumer version of this camera. Something a little smaller as the benefits of APS-C is the promise of a smaller, lighter kit. I still want hybrid, I still want good quality, I don't need all the speed, but I would like something 200g lighter.
actually i am looking towards fuji for videography , the quality per money is there , is within a future budget , so this is much better than equivalent blackmagic per money ...
Dammit bro. Got me. Now I’m going to have to get one. I know Darren. I didn’t know he liked it THAT much. I’m a lowlight worship photographer. I push my gear hard for lowlight events. This has me excited. Here I was trying to save money with a xt5 lol
Hey thanks for this video, I went to the camera store to get a feel for this camera in hand. I am thinking about pulling the trigger. What lens for video and some photo would you suggest (I’m 70% video and 30% photo). Also I think in this world of Full Frame people get scared by the idea of an APS-C
Man I can’t really give you a recommendation without knowing what specifically you’re doing. But I’d say try that sigma 18-50 f2.8 for a zoom. For primes I’d say get the f2 Fuji lenses that are super small but if you want a faster lens the 33/1.4 is fantastic as well.
Yup, took till last week to realize the X-H2S had a stacked sensor. Their marketing emphasizes video, so didn’t pay much attention to the specs. As a 95% photographer, this is the camera of my dreams. I am à Sony shooter, but added the x-H1 camera a few years ago. I unfortunately sold my multiple X-H1 bodies and 3 red badged zooms to buy a few GM lenses for an European trip last summer (2022). I missed Fujifilm colors and the reality was that Sony really hasn’t been great about releasing cameras with faster sensor readout since I purchased my A7RIII. Unfortunately the one innovation (A1) is really out of reach financially. The X-H2S is exactly the camera that I have been looking for. I just placed an order for a X-H2S along with a 23mm 1.4 WR. If it works as I anticipate, I will be relegating my Sony’s to Landscape duty, and trade gear to get another X-H2S. I am very excited about testing the X-H2S as soon as it gets to me. Nothing wrong with either system. Even though I have been a Sony shooter since the first generation (2014), the 3 recent years of using Fujifilm has left a pretty lasting impression.
Dee- Great video. Getting antsy about upgrading from my XH-1 to this or XT-5 coming out so I'll sit back and study the videos. Interesting and spot on point at the 16:00 minute mark, Fuji catering to the minority of the population with regards to video... I agree, photographers make them not bloggers or the videographers or the 1% ers as I call them. Sounds like ALL the big comapnies are going that way with their products.. Doesn't make one freaking bit of sense and it will fail! Keepem coming!
I love your point toward the end of the video. I believe this is why Fujifilm made the XT-5, which is really a photographer's camera. I think Fuji did a great job making this a true hybrid camera for both of its marketshare. Also, they have tons of photographer-only cameras. I'm also a XH2s owner and XT-3. Keep up the good work man. Don't let the comments mess with u.
I've been thinking what to buy a7iv or the xh2s, and I'm leaning towards the xh2s, do you think that the xh2s is superior in terms of being a "hybrid camera"?
I’m currently enjoying my xt4, but with AF issues, I’m so inclined to upgrading to the xh2s. Mostly shooting stills and some videos. Should i upgrade? Worth the extra money to put in?
haha dont hate me but I returned the XH2s for R6Mark II because I liked the colors of canon more in video, it is noisier, it is IPB H2.65 and makes logical no sense to compete against xh2s but it just looks better in my opinion. Loved the xh2s perfomance, but the canon has just a very nice rendering of colors
Great review, Thanks for Sharing. I'm hesitant to get the XH-2 or XH-2S. I do photography mostly but I want something I can rely on for video as well. I was going for the XH-2 but I really need the speed, I shoot literally everything, When I'm shooting events I will need the speed.
Not adding a charger might be beyond fujis control due to ongoing legislation. Personally I think its good to not get a new charger which duplicates what you already got. Ihave quite a few which I do not use for the old battery laying around, whata a waste. Got the fuji double battery for my gfx100s great little box. Else a great video covering my new favourite camera, ittakes to many pictures though…..
