Have you tried adding about 5 drops of ti tree oil and a couple of drops of eucy oil / 20 litres to your sugar water. It seems to have some beneficial effects on bacterial and fungal diseases, I noted that some Americans are using it on towels to fight afb and efb with some success, so it may help with chalk brood. It won't cost much and surely it is worth a try.

Interesting. I’m going to try that.

I hope all these bees suddenly wake up and realise there are actual flowers in bloom pretty close by!

Bob Binney did an article on it, and its worth a look.

I must have missed that one. I’ve seen home talk about putting a splash of bleach in his feed to stop it fermenting but not other additions. I’ll check it out.

you could always pour syrup in their empty frames when you desperate and don't have a feeder

I absolutely thought of that. I just couldn’t do it. Too much of an unknown.

Great vid as always. You may need to replace a few of your queens with that chalk brood going on. I replaced the queen in one of mine that was suffering chalk brood and man did they recover, I tried many things first before replacing queen.

Good advice. I ordered 10 queens last year for that exact reason but so far they are still available. The queeens locally are pretty ordinary. Thank you.

I was going to say the frame feeders looked a bit dodgy but then you worked it out 😂. Hopefully that fix will cut out the casualties all together. I quite like the hive top feeders as you dont sacrifice any space for brood if the queen suddenly decides to lay out as much as she can. Love the content mate, keep it coming.

Thankyou. I was going to invest in 9 Litre top feeders but someone commented that the aren’t good for weak hives. So now I’m in two minds.

@aussiebeekeeping yeah that's a valid point too, sometimes it's had to pick the best option when three's so many things to consider.

Are the black darker frames ready to be replaced?

As soon as my bees are self sufficient.

I’m going to Demaree all the hives to swap out the chalk brood frames as well.

Has there just been no flow where you are? Or do you think the bee numbers were too low when there was a flow?
