How crazy was it that he hit that home run with the count at 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th inning. The last out of the last inning and he belts the homerun. The significance of that HR and what it meant to Mariners Baseball and all the die hard fans who have been waiting decades for the Mariners to be a real contender in the post season is beyond words. Cal Raleigh is one of those players who come in clutch when the game is on the line and The Mariners are so damn lucky to have him.
Being in this stadium when this happened is something I don’t think I’ll ever forget. When everyone realized where it was going it’s like 21 years worth of cheering came out all at once.
2:57 The Seattle Mariners now have a new signature moment in franchise history. Cal Raleigh became the only player in MLB history to hit a pinch-hit walk-off home run to clench the postseason for his team. With this, his 26th homer of the season, he is also now the all-time leader in single season home runs for a Mariners Catcher. Go Mariners!
Seriously - the season does not go the way it did if he doesn't make that miraculous turnaround when he got called back up into emergency duty. So fitting that he got the drought-buster.
Epitome of gut wrenching stress followed by unglued screaming, weak knees and crying. Just a week before I had said, "sure, id love to see the Mariners late season collapse." And then there I was, just surveying the stadium, taking in every detail, making sure that I would never forget this night.
Unforgettable -- screaming with tears in my eyes, jumping up and down, hugging my wife and everyone else around us -- one of the best moments I've ever witnessed
What a beautiful moment in sports! The instant the ball left the bat, everyone (Mariners fans) in that stadium lost their minds!! That always brings a tear to my eye; when fans show unbridled joy for their team!! Soak it up, drink it up, celebrate Seattle!! 🍾 Good luck in the post season!! From a Dodger Fan.
@@wayne5969 what do you mean? They ended their drought a few years ago and have been a good team for a while now. Drafting Allen was a big part of that. What team did they need the help of?
I get emotional every time I watch this replay!!!! As a 35 year old Mariners fan for life, this moment right here means so much to me. This is amazing!!!!!
I can imagine Dave calling Cal’s home run and Mariners’ playoff clinch in heaven: swung on and belted, deep down right field by the foul pole, THE MARINERS ARE ON THEIR WAY TO THE 2022 POSTSEASON, A BEAUTIFUL HOME RUN BY CAL RALEIGH. THE MARINERS END THE 21 YEAR DROUGHT, MY OH MY!!
I’ve been a fan from day one. Actually, even before that, when the Pilots played one season in Sicks Stadium! Love my Mariners! With our strong pitching and never say die attitude, the Mariners just might be the Cinderella story of the playoffs! Go M’s!!!
I was watching this on TV with my dad. When cal fouled off that 3-2 down and in my dad said "CAL, THAT WAS BALL FOUR!" To which I replied "he's not up there to walk, he's up there to TROT." Next pitch... Hell yeah Cal Raleigh Seattle legend for life!
Something has me feeling like Kelenic being the man on deck is going to be like "The Double" where A-Rod was on deck. A young guy who is highly touted but hasn't proven himself yet with a chance to be the man of the moment but the guy ahead of him is the hero instead.
Truly one of the rare moments where I spent two weeks coming up with the best possible scenario for that game: Secure a playoff spot; and the moment ends up being better than I ever dreamed of. Incredible.
I remember I had just gotten of work about 30 min before, and I saw this game was going to the bottom of the ninth, and I just had a feeling that I was going to get to see history. This is a moment I will never forget.
I'm from New Zealand, which is not a baseball country in the slightest, but I remembered watching the Dorktown Mariners documentary sometime in 2021, and then in 2022, while not caring about baseball in the slightest, I kept an eye on their record, and when I checked and happened to see they were 1 win away from breaking the drought, I decided to turn on my first baseball game. Definitely I'm not the most diehard M's fan of all time, but fuck. I'm so grateful that this was the first game I ever watched. I've never seen anything more magical.
Wow, that was so cool!! Don’t you just love the drama of baseball?! I’m so happy for you Seattle Mariners fans! As a lifelong Dodger fan, I wish you much success in the post season. 🙂
As a Jays fan, I can fully understand and support the Mariners excitement. Congrats to them and enjoy the postseason, Hope to see you guys in the ALCS :)
Ahhhh... The pre pitch clock era. I loved seeing the overhead view of the ballpark with everyone just taking their time to soak it all in. That's gone now and baseball will never be the same
I hate to see baseball turn into football. I heard someone describe the enforcement of these rules as “middle school hall monitors” and that’s pretty accurate. I mean they gave a batter a pitch clock violation because his fans were giving him a standing ovation 🙄
The cut to Rick at 4:38 always brings me back to one of my favorite memories from that night. During the basically hour that the guys were inside celebrating and getting absolutely toasted, they showed Rick up on the big screen and everyone started going nuts. It took forever for him to notice (it was actually Dave who figured it out and poked him to pay attention), but then he leaned out and we just had this communal love fest for a couple of minutes. Pure love and joy at the ballpark that night!
I was maybe four or five when Edgar Martinez sent us to ALCS bit ive watched it so many times that this play gave those vibes our future is very bright with this team
I was there. The whole crowd stayed there for hours and hours after the win, just partying, celebrating, dancing, crying, it was such a beautiful moment. I recorded that entire at bat knowing it could be a significant one, and I wasn't disappointed. full count 2 outs in the 9th how could you ask for anything more?
Once Cal Raleigh retires in the future, he should be added to the Mariners hall of fame category for ending the team’s 21 year playoff drought. Thank you, Cal, for saving the organization and ending a playoff drought frustration!!
That couple right above the e in the T Mobile sign on the right. The husband and wife standing up. That guy seems like he's been a fan from day one and has been waiting for this moment so bad. You catch just a glimpse of his reaction after the hit. Priceless.
I remember watching this and calling for a Cal pinch hit all game and when he came to bat in thr 9th i just knew. Called that right from the start. One of the best memories already for being a mariner fan. That swing will never be forgotten
I lived in Seattle from 93-96, and my girlfriend worked for them. I got to see that great ‘95-team play for free whenever I wanted. And did. It’s great to see them competing again.
“A drive deep! To Right field! Down the line! The Mariners win this game 2-1! The dream lives! They are GOING to the playoffs!! THE DROUGHT IS OVER! Cal Raleigh!! WOW! Hey now! Hey now! Hey now!” What an all time great call by Dave Sims!
This is literally the most perfect moment ever. At home. Sellout crowds. Bottom of the 9th. Full count. Unbelievable. Plus my kids were there with their grandpa and uncle.
This is the situation every one of us has dreamed about and acted out in the backyard. Bottom of the 9th 2 out season on the line. Cal got live it for real.
Damn, that ball was hit so well, it almost looked like the September 30th walk 2-1 walk off home run to end the mariners playoff drought off 21 years!!
I took hitting lessons from Cal’s cousin Matt Raleigh, Matt played pro ball for a while on the expos but never popped off. Dude has the biggest hands I’ve ever seen and swung a 36 inch bat 🤯
