This is a full build video that summarizes the work that has been done. This is a list of the products used. KIT - Trumpeter forrest sherman ddg-98 Pontos etching - www.hobbydecal.... HS MODELS -www.hobbyeasy....
As someone who used to serve on board that ship, I love some of the small details that you kept. Even our official model in the schools show the Stack funnels installed. Funny story about the stars and stripes on the 5" gun. Inspectors tried to claim that it wasn't authorized, which resulted in a full argument over the official instruction...which we won.
Thanks for answering the reason the 5 inch gun was painted like that. I tried asking some ai hat bots, and they had no clue, saying it must have been temporary or, the information is unknown.
I used to be stationed on a Spruance Class Destroyer a long time ago. I'm currently building a 1/350 Ticonderoga Class Cruiser and trying Photo Etch parts for the first time. I learned so much watching this video. Thanks for taking the time to film all of your work from start to finish. It looks Outstanding!
I used to live and work on one of these beasts. She is a extraordinary work of engineering by man. You have done a wonderful job of replicating it. The detail is amazing. I worked on the antennas port and starboard below the SPY 1 arrays. I also was stationed on a couple of Spruance Class destroyers that I would love to see built this well.
Incredible build! I just recently purchased a Trumpeter model to build the DDG-94 Nitze and wasnt aware of the Pontos detail set, will definitely be ordering that now! The detail on this is unreal!
You amaze me every time All this beautiful pe makes the model looks dame good. You are an artist in blood I learn from you alot Thank you for teaching and sharing your skills
Outstanding ! I’m gonna build a diorama with a U-Boot in water, can’t wait to use your technics ! Can you do a U Boot diorama ? It would be amazing with your skill
I machined the actual main housing for the high speed reduction gearing to be installed in ARLEIGH BURKE class destroyers. I worked on the R D team that built the prototype gearing while at GE GEAR plant in Lynn MASS in mid 80s. I always wanted to see a DDG in real life
I thought of making a Ticonderoga next, but I visited the USS John McCain back in 2000, Okinawa, it was very impressive and seemed thoughtfully designed. I followed the news of the USS Cole bombing and while looking at Tico models last week I thought "it can wait, I'm getting a Burke first. I want a USS Cole on the wall. It's historic." 🐻👩🎨🇺🇸/👁️\🇷🇺
I will tell you... you can find some fine model builders in Korea! Yourself and some other fellow countrymen of yours, are THE BEST in the whole world! Greetings from Brazil. 내가 말해줄게... 한국에서 괜찮은 모델 빌더를 찾을 수 있을거야! 당신 자신과 당신의 다른 동포들은 전 세계에서 최고입니다! 브라질에서의 인사 I probably made a lot of mistakes...
My father actually worked at Bath Iron Works where the first ship of the class, The Areligh Burke DDG-51 herself was made. This one doesnt have the Burkes second CIWS mount in the front given its a later flight but overall very amazing to see one of these ships.
I actually worked on the team at GE GEAR plant in Lynn MASS that built the high speed reduction gearing. The gas turbine and reduction gearing were specially designed for that class.
I get to build the real thing at Bath Iron Works. I swell with pride everytime we send one down the river. We are currently in production of flight 3. Hull 525 is a few years from completion.
Not sure why they paint 'below the waterline' for you on some models, that is one of the easiest things to paint in modelling, i always do matte rattle can and block it with tape and spray away an come back and do the grey the same way.. it doesn't look as good as what you got going on or air brush in general, but it works pretty well.. trick is, really fast passes with the paint.
Super Frigate - like the USS Constitution. Built to over-match its opponents for its class. Fast-powerful, and multi-role escort. Not a destroyer, nor cruiser.
Very cool. I have a 1:350 USS Bunker Hill I built about 20 years ago by Mini Hobby Models. It needs some maintenance though as one of the cats decided that shelf had better uses.
