I like Outdoor Vitals a lot. I own their quilt top quilt an appreciate how much the improve their gear every few years. I also love Paria Outdoors. Great, budget gear with 5 star customer service. Love the chest rig, i really like hillpeople gear even though it is on the spendy side.

I just got back from a 6 day camp trip in the adirondacks and it rained 3 out of the 6 days! Ughh never fails always rains lol. Moisture in the air every night. But i used my litefighter 1 multicam military tent and zero leaks! My 4th trip with rain and its been a great little tent! I also used my mountain hardwear lamina z-flame 22 degree sleeping bag worked great! Paired it with my sea to summit ethetlite xt sleeping pad reg wide and under it i used outdoor vitals thin foam sleeping pad. Helped keep my etherlite from sliding around inside the tent and added an extra layer of ground protection! Happy to be home but planning my next adventure soon! Hike on!

Glad to see you included your Helinox Chair Zero for full comfort, Bryce! Looks like you were pretty much set to go with maybe the exception of the pack liner. Have you looked into the Zpacks Dyneema pack cover which weighs 1.4 oz. and fits my GG Mariposa 60L pack? I decided on that because I have so much trouble trying to stuff my gear into the pack liner without it trying to come out at the same time. Sometimes, it feels like trying to stuff a marshmallow into a piggy bank! It just won't go! 😅

Awesome topics! Trail clothing is so important! Even every day clothing is. I try hard to get people i know to ditch the cotton shirts and heavy pants but nobody listens! Lol. I wear similar to you. I usually wear an eastern mountain sports tech wick long sleeve/hoodie or t-shirt. Recently been using exxoficio lightweight t-shirts and the briefs are great too! I then wear either my ems shorts or my columbia silver ridge zip off pants. Darn tough merino wool socks and sometimes their coolmax socks because i have a sensitivity to wool. Brooks cascadia 6 shoes or my similar sketchers version. Of course things change depending on weather, temp, terrain, etc... Hike on!!

I am very interested in your thoughts about those Danner Trail shoes. So, here is a little encouragement to consider doing a video on them sometime. Great video. I also took my Waymark pack (mine is the Lite 50) on a weekend trip this past week. I was only out one night, so had less food than you, and no camera gear, and my total weight was 17lbs. Very happy with that!

@@BackcountryExposure , I think the big question is what caused that. Are you a back sleeper or side sleeper? Any pad can cause problems if you sleep improperly. I learned that about 7 years ago. I need neck support or I get bad sleep. Once I found that out, I get much better sleep at home and on the trail. I also use the neoair when I hammock as well! Did two nights in the Black Hills in a hammock and slept like a baby (With the neoair pad). You dont need an under quilt if you have a warm pad (Good R value).

@@BackcountryExposure Getting a good night's sleep is more important and that's why my husband and I sleep on the NEMO Tensor Wide Insulated pad! People who are side sleepers really need a wide rectangular pad. 😉
@antduke2361
@antduke2361 Год назад
@@debbilermond1553 as a complete side sleeper I find the wide pads are not that important I'm 225lbs too. I do think a square pad is a must though. If I slept on my back a wide size pad would be a must have, but on my side I find I only need a square pad in regular to hold my slightly bent legs near the bottom. The regular width mummy pads would be no good though as they taper at the bottom for my legs. I also find a quilt is a necessity for side sleeping a sleeping bag just doesn't work IMO for a side sleeper.

How does the Altitude hoodie compare to OR Echo hoodie (assuming you’ve used it)?
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure Год назад
I've worn the Echo for a long time. OR has redesigned it a couple times, and each time it's got worse. The sleeves of the current Echo are terrible. Super baggy and too long. I would normally wear a medium in the Echo and I've put on a little belly weight so I considered going to a large, and the large was so big and baggy that it wasn't an option. I've been way happier with the Altitude in sizing and especially the fit in the sleeves. The fabric of the altitude feels a little more delicate, but I've worn the altitude pretty much exclusively since March this year and very happy with it. I prefer it over the Echo.

@@izgoesoutdoors2426 the bag is the holster. The pocket it goes into is only meant to have the firearm in it, so the trigger is protected. It’s how Hill People Gear recommends using the kit bag. If you do feel the need to have a holster then it’s recommended to use a trigger guard that ties to the webbing loop inside. The Raven Concealment Systems Vanguard 2 lanyard kit is a great option if you carry a Glock, Sig, or Smith and Wesson.

The hoodie lacks facial protection from bugs. A zipper and additional material would provide a degree of cold wind protection. Your video didn't display nor did you wear the Outdoor Vitals rain jacket I therefore went to their website and it appears to lack facial protection from wind driven rain and cold.
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure Год назад
I am a little confused by your comment. Are you looking for the hoody and jacket to be a Kenny from South Park type of fit around the face? The altitude hoody and even the very popular OR Echo hoody aren't meant to be for bug protection. They are a sun hoody... So help me understand what product out there you're comparing it to that does what you are describing. Im intrigued by your comment.
@ULperformance
@ULperformance Год назад
@@BackcountryExposure The failure of a majority of hoodies and rain jackets is not providing facial coverage above the tip of the nose resulting in exposure to cold, cold wind, penetrating rain, snow and biting bugs. With a properly designed hood the addition of warm moisture exiting one’s nostrils provides comfort from objectionably cold weather. The zipper allows adjustment of the hood for varying conditions. Your comment added curiosity which peaked my interest due to its’ lack in the majority of my fellow humans these days.
@tonybabcock655
@tonybabcock655 Год назад
The primary purpose for a sun hoodie is sun protection. I use a buff or headnet for bug protection Most mosquitoes can bite through a thin fabric so I lean toward headsets. Most rain jackets don’t offer face coverage to prevent moisture buildup on the inside of the jacket. Hence the added utility of a buff. Good questions, though.
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure Год назад
I don't think it's realistic to expect every product to be used in all conditions. A rain jacket is different than a hard shell that's designed for cold weather and alpine environments. So I don't expect a rain jacket to have all of those additional design elements. Same with a sun hoody, that is designed to be for sun protection.
@ULperformance
@ULperformance Год назад
@@tonybabcock655 What you’re missing is multi-functionality. Providing a hoodie strictly for sun protection is limiting. True, a mosquito will penetrate a lightweight fabric. The rain jacket however is truly lacking. A shell should be designed for protection. There is the continued psychological interference of cold, cold wind, rain and snow piercing the face with an improperly designed hood resolved by a properly designed hood. The hoodie designed for sun alone is lacking as well as it is limited in function.

OV is a great company, until you don’t like something and realize you can’t return or trade it in once it’s been used. Since you can only get OV gear directly from them, you then have a useless piece of gear you’re left with. Used to be a fan of them, but this is a massive flaw in how they run things.
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure Год назад
It's really not that uncommon for a company to not accept returns of used gear that doesn't fall into a warranty claim. It's expensive for the company and unfortunately people look for all kinds of loop holes to take advantage of companies. REI is a good example of making adjustments to a return policy because people take advantage of things. Just my thoughts.
@mattbeckwith8575
@mattbeckwith8575 Год назад
I like that REI will give you some store credit back for your gear. It gives you more piece of mind when you make a purchase. I’m sure you can relate to the love of trying new gear, and seeing what works best for you. It makes me a bit uneasy to purchase from a company knowing that if I don’t end up liking a product, my only option would be to resell it.
