Butte County has issued an emergency proclamation due to the Park Fire which has prompted multiple evacuation orders and warnings in Butte and Tehama counties. The fire has now burned over 160,000 acres, making it the largest fire currently burning in California.
According to Cal Fire arson investigators and the Butte County District Attorney's Office, a subject was seen pushing a car that was on fire into a gully near the Alligator Hole in upper Bidwell Park shortly before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24. They say the fire spread from the vehicle to nearby vegetation and ignited the Park Fire. One man, identified as a 42-year-old Chico man, was arrested in connection to starting the fire.
