Thank you for this video! I’ve returned to cross stitch about 2 years ago after a hiatus of about 25 years. I have never used gridded fabric or parked my threads before, but I thought ‘how hard can it be?’ I purchased a full coverage pattern of a Chesapeake Bay Retriever’s face to do for my husband. I’ve completed 2 gridded squares and realized I need to watch a video; my back is a mess and I couldn’t keep track of the threads I was “parking”. After watching your video, I felt better about my back and learned the proper way to park. The pattern has 38 colors; mostly browns with some grays. Now that I know to park at the color symbol, and not just any old hole, I can keep track of the thread and my back looks a little better. Again, thank you!

It was a fabulous series and I picked up so many tips. One life changer was getting one thread from a skein, mind blown. Thanks :)

Thank you so much for answering questions and for creating this series. I found the series VERY helpful. Pattern Keeper does keep track of parking. It also helps if you want to diagonal park. It’s a fairly new app and is adding features as users let the software designer know what would be helpful. I’m going to use it on my PC computer using Blue Stacks. I’m mostly an apple gal and have a pc for my pc only software. I admit I only tested it a little. I’m planning to use it for a smallish HAED design very soon. This will be my first HAED. Thanks again

Teresa thank you. I am not a new stitcher. I am an ipad Goodreader user BUT Pattern Keeper has changed my life. Tried it on husbands Samsung and 2 hours later went and bought an android. It is brilliant for parking, highlighting, no grey page sections, the list goes on and on. Love, love, love it. You must give it a trial.

Thank you for this series of videos! Each one was very thorough and included every detail a person needs to get going on full coverage. In my instance, I was an experienced cross stitcher, but was looking for tips on full coverage. I had already purchased a chart (HAED, Spring Planting)....I was looking for tips on fabric choice, how many threads of floss looks best (to me), and most of all.... I very much enjoyed you demonstrating your actual stitching technique (parking) step by step! Makes it all perfectly clear and now I'm ready to order my fabric and threads and get stitching on it! Wonderful videos for beginners, best of the ones I’ve watched on RU-vid, very clear and slow enough for me to understand what you are doing and saying. You cover every aspect of stitching and clearly understand what a beginner needs to know. I took ages to grid my work and now see that this is a waste of time. Your method of starting in a corner and working one square at a time makes much more sense. I have learnt so much from you and gained confidence and motivation to carry on. Thank you so much. This is the first time I comment on any video! I am wondering about the way you suspend your chart to the side of your stitching, and how you enlarged the chart. I tried to do this on my printer but it was very smeared and useless. Maybe I should go to a print shop and pay for a clean enlargement? Looks like you use magnets? Pattern Keeper keeps track of your parking too....I’m one of the crazy people and bought a Kindle (I’m an Apple girl) just so I could use the app..... so glad I did. I just use my Kindle for my cross stitching needs.....

I’d be curious to know if now that pattern keeper has been out a while if you’ve tried it again? I started out with GoodNotes and that was great. But I find pattern keeper to be a great addition to my stitchy tech! I use the same method as you with the blocks and the staggering and it works wonderfully. It also has an option to mark a parked thread and to undo if you have to frog. You should give it another go! It has made my life easier!

Pattern Keeper will allow you to mark where you park your thread. The creator is slowly adding other pattern design software that it will read. I use a pdf reader for the patterns that can't be read by Pattern Keeper. Karen Brug has a wonderful video on using the Pattern Keeper app.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this series, Teresa! I’ve learned so much! Getting ready to start my first HAED and now I don’t feel so nervous about it. I may have missed this earlier but what size needle you’re using on that 25 count?

Pattern Keeper is by far the best app to use with stitching whether you park or cross country. Saves an enormous amt of time when changing to new color since it tells you number when a symbol is highlighted. No need to really look at symbols again. No missed stitches and easily finds the next place to park. I'm also a parker and find this app so much easier to use vs Goodreader, ExpertPDF or EZPDF. No page breaks to deal with since the chart is one big picture and completed marked stitches show visually where you are in your pattern. Gives great sense of accomplishment. I have found that I have doubled or tripled the # of stitches I can do in a stitching session. Previously used either ezpdf or Goodreader. I have an Ipad and Samsung Galaxy so for me was no problem getting the app. I use both types of pakos routinely. Find the needle minder one is great for storing longer lengths of thread that are not needed til later. I have Omanik pako holder quartet and use 2 needle minders and 2 floss organizers for my Haed Projects. Needle holder efficient for those longer leftovers since I don't have to remove from the needle and place back on bobbin/keeper to later have to remove from bobbin/keeper and thread needle to use.

Hello I never done cross stitch and I bought a kit at hobby lobby watching your video I returned it bought a design to do a full coverage everything else I got on Amazon I’m waiting to start Monday you made me more confident to do this super excited thank you for the videos. I do have a question where can I find a fabric with the lines in them for the 10x10

The problem with only buying one skein at a time when you will need multiple is that you risk dealing with different dye lots which could be an issue depending on what your project is that your stitching.

I love your videos. Your mini series is very helpful. How ever I do have a question. When doing the higher count fabric could you show how to count the holes in the fabric compared to the squares on the chart? For example on 28 count would 1 square on the chart equal 2 squares on the fabric? Thank you

I enjoyed your stitch with me. Putting orts out for birds is not recommended, the threads can form knots and choke little baby birds!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a great video. I am working on 18 count Aida. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m having a difficult time figuring out which hole to put my needle through. My fabric seems to have two holes. A larger one and then right next to it a smaller one. So I’ll put my needle in the bigger hole to make my cross, but then when I’m about to do another cross below it, the holes don’t necessarily line up. It’s hard to explain. Am I making any sense? For instance the even weave fabric that you use has four distinct holes. So there is no guesswork. Not so with Aida. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am very interested in the tent stitch and it was great to catch you performing it in this video. Any tips on tent stitch technique , when does one choose that stitch over a full cross? Thanks in advance.

I think if you are using scroll rods you want to go across and not up and down because having part of the piece stitched will affect the tension. Hopefully that makes sense....

I done the pre made charts for about 20 years... And I was soooo bored with it all. I just sort of dropped it for papercrafts. When I moved home My hubby threw out a huge bag of threads and fabric. Then I found your videos explaining about the pre made kits... It was like a light bulb lit up....u have no idea... Hmmmmmm.....about £100 down now I’m starting up again. Thank u sooooo much x

Great video as always. I always enjoy watching you while i am stitching myself. Great q&a too! But i must agree with the lady below. Leaving threads, is it floss or yarn for birds is not good for them. Apart from them being at risk of chocking on them they also get tangled in them and unlike grass or small sticks and other things nature provides for them, thread doesn't break easily for them to untangle :(

Confused about Gillian Kirby’ s comment. Isn’t it tent stitch when you do half of a full cross no matter which direction it slants?(right to left or left to right)?

How do u stitch using the parking method? And how do u start a cross stitch using the parking method?

As note Pattern Keeper does not read all PDF’s at this time. The creator is working on adding different pattern creators to her app. I think so far it will read HAED’s and a few others. It will not read a scanned pattern but if it’s turned into a PDF maybe. You need to check the app for the patterns it will read but more will be added. The app is still in development As far as the needle I wonder if it is like with a sewing machine needle. I have an embroidery sewing machine and I change my needle with each project. If I’m quilting I change the needle also with a new project or if my thread begins to break frequently I will change my needle
