This video brought back so many memories! My grandmother had this same machine in white, and I spent hours as a youngster watching it operate. My favorite was to watch the mini-basket loads. Thanks for uploading!
a friend says, modern machines are dirt redepositing systems. they remove dirt then they put it back on clothes. I think the filter flo design where debris is actually filtered out, should be a must on washing machines. why in the world they discontinued the design where dirt is being filtered out of the wash? When will they start making those again. I have bought an old I am planning to fix it and put it to use. I hope the parts are still available ?
Wow I can't believe that 54 years later and this machine is still running strong!!! That's why I always liked the GE filter flo washers they were built like Sherman Tanks and performed very well... they were one of the greatest workhorses of its time back then!!! Thanks for the video Gso and have a good night!!!
A friend of mine moved around the corner from me and inside their place is an older GE Filter flo from I'm guessing the 80s. Still running. Funny because the Extras Large tub in it looks small now. I remember these machines when they were still being made. Have a new appreciation for GE washers as I had forgotten how well built it is especially to the tin foil made machines today that are so prevalent.
@@maryrobert80 True. Even if the DD washers were still being made like my Kenmore 90 series from 2003 I wouldn't have gotten a Speed Queen either. I liked the Speed Queen when I had it but the Kenmores had so many more options and overall were much more versatile washers.
@@patcola7335 Yes they were Pat... I had a 90 series too, and I always use to say this machine is a real workhorse!!! It handled some pretty heavy loads at times and never gave me a minute's worth of trouble except for an occasional off balance load once in a while!!!
@@maryrobert80 That was a little bit of a drawback as the suspensions were kind of weak in the DD machines. What the Speed Queen had going for it was the excellent suspension system. The only other machines I can remember that were as good with balanced spins was an early-mid 70s Westinghouse top loader (before they were gobbled by WCI) and the 70s Norge we had . The Norge would slow down and compensate for the unbalanced loads.
My dad use to own a laundromat yrs ago & it had the filter Flo machines ! Simple to repair & keep on washing ! They the best cleaning & lint removal .the sound is music to My ears & reminds Me of My dads laundromat . From yrs ago . They don’t build like that anymore .
Classic GE Filter-Flow washing machine, love the colour as well, we never had an array of colourful options here in Britain !! Great video, Thanks for showing us..
What a great vintage General Electric Washing Machine... It's so clean and in excellent condition... Love the control panel... Does a good job washing too.. Love the vintage washers when the control panels lit up with fluorescent lights coming from behind... Great video..
I Grew Up With G.E. In The House, When I Was About 6 My Grandma Had A 1954 G.E. Washer & Refrigerator/Freezer And From Then On We Always Had A G.E. Washer I n Our Home
I'm not sure the exact years. Frigidaire had a 1-18 set with a light on it until the late 70s. Maytag had the A806 (backlit panel) until the late 70s too.
@@Gsohoover the Sears lady kenmore machine s always had a panel light plus inner tub light until the 1980 models were made . But they still had the transmission and belts
Finally! A full cycle! Can this washer do cold rinse? What are the cycles and temp/speed combos? I'd like to see a small load.'i'd also like to see the motor and transmission in action. Thanks.
@@Gsohoover True. CU made a comment on how the first GE automatic was superior in some ways the 2nd iteration of washers they came out with after. Probably just too expensive to produce.
NEW GE top-loaders are a shame compared to this! If you happen to own one (I do) go ahead, watch it agitate. No deep cleaning at all! Yours pulls those towels down and back around every 15 seconds. Whereas new ones, can't do that once in 30 minutes!
