Mey,.we probably did talk about it and I just forgot. I'm getting old....right at the beginning of this year I watched one of the Displate videos from Zen Watercooler and I jumped right in. Hope you are doing well with it.
@@DetourShirts Yeah, it's not like I wasn't well, I just thought it's funny that's all LOL It's good you joined, no matter who made you do it. I love that they have 50% commission for traffic you bring in by yourself. and that they are a bit more exclusive and don't just accept anyone and manually check every single design to make sur eit can be printed in the highest quality. they are a very good platform that I myself have been neglecting LOL
Thank you again! This is more my thing, I’m into photography so I’m happy to see that I can use it easily with this. I really appreciate your help Juno💜
@@DetourShirts feel like this video is just going to ruin displate. essentially you are creating a tutorial on how to grind out low quality artwork. this is why good artists with original paints might struggle to get onto displate because you are then clogging up the system
Hey Juna, thanks buddy. I requested once for this video and here you are. Thanks a ton in advance. Going to watch video now. And implement too if it's a step by step video from design idea conceive to upload on Displate.
Nice... just make sure to change up the template to make it your own... change the words, add graphics, change colors, add textures if you want... then upload it
Yes, I heard a lot about Displate from Zen Watercooler. His channel is great too. This platform is really for high-end buyers imo, so they accept only great designers.
Good video I also watch zen water cooler...learned a lot from him too. You both are great artist and teachers much gratitude to you for sharing what yall do. Very helpful and i get al lot of value and awsome ideas. Kee up the god work
Sorry, but displate doesn't make a serious impression on me. They accept "artists" who download images from other artists and then sell them on displate as their own. Why do I know that? I'm a creator at creativefabrica and that's exactly what happened to me. However, when I applied to Displate myself, they turned me down. And I still find there images downloaded from Spark Creative Fabrica and uploaded to Displate. If you ask you never get an answer anyway....a very "friendly" Polish company :-(
@@DetourShirts Oh yes please!!!! I was about to request that just don't know how to say it 🤣. I watched him first before I discovered your channel but I always thought you had the "almost" the same charm to your community. The way you treat your audience.Maybe just my perception but I can feel the similarity. I'll wait for that day.
@@DetourShirts FYI: as I recall, Zen said in one video that he does not want to reveal his identity or show his face on camera in any videos (his policy). So, he would likely not be on a Picture in Picture video interview. Good luck with him though, as I think both of you are among the best for tutorials (along with Mey and Philip), and all of you give the POD community great advice and tips and inspiring examples.
It's really just brainstorming around a topic and then checking to make sure it's not trademarked.... there are some apps that can help too... I'll make a video.
How are you showing your portfolio? Do you make one inn Canva etc or add your POD shops? How do we upload our original photography to Displate? Is there a direct upload or do we design in Canva first then upload?
When you send the email just put a link to your POD shops. If you want to upload your photography you will still need to size it to the correct size. in Canva or whatever design app you are using.
Hey Juna, this is kinda off topic, but I was wondering if you use Kittl for making customizable designs for Zazzle? If not, do you have a creative process for making things that are designed to be customizable (ie. insert text here, insert photo here, etc)? Also... Zen Watercooler rules! I too am a disciple of his. You guys should join forces on some videos... that would be awesome!
I haven't but in theory it could work since you can save designs as an SVG.... Yes I would love to collaborate with Zen Watercooler just got to figure out a good way to do it.
@@DetourShirts OMG, if you really are going to collaborate with the Zen master, it would be an EPIC POD crossover event!!! (Or events maybe...?) The "Zen Detourcooler Saga" haha. If you need some ideas, I have some suggestions. Since you and Zen are both successful in POD, but are also almost diametrically opposed in your choice of tools, design styles, chosen platforms, marketing strategies, RU-vid channels, etc, and hence collectively bring different advantages to the table, here are 5 ideas I've come up with that can contrast and overlap both you're unique virtues, in order to - as Zen often likes to say - "provide value" to both your viewership's: VIDEO IDEA #1: you could make something from scratch in Affinity Designer, and then challenge Zen to try and make something similar ENTIRELY FOR FREE using Public Domain sourced images and on the free design tool of Inkscape (he's quite the wizard at that). This video could show viewer that "free options" can produce premium like results. VIDEO IDEA #2: It's Zen's turn to challenge you. He could make a design out of Creative Fabrica resources that he morphs into something unique on Adobe, then challenges you to try and makes something similar with Kittl. This video could educate those wishing to "level up," about some of the ideal paid tools that might be a worthy investment, and their comparative advantages. VIDEO IDEA #3 : You could both compare the strengths, weaknesses and experiences of your different marketing strategies: you seem to be on every social media platform, as you are universally the "Detour" brand; whereas I think Zen uses Facebook and Pinterest, and calibrates his strategy for his numerous and different niche stores VIDEO IDEA #4: Since you are two of the most successful POD youtubers, you could make a comparison of starting a "faceless" channel vs one where you're the star of the show LOL. VIDEO IDEA #5: You can both compare the various POD platforms you are on, and the ups and downs of such (very relevant for these very turbulent times in the world of POD). Zen does best on Displate but also does other things like KDP and selling on Creative Fabrica; whereas you use many platforms that he doesn't or doesn't really favor (Society 6, Zazzle etc). You both converge on your successful ventures in Amazon and, umm, Redbubble, so... that would be an interesting discussion hehehe. This could be kind of a reflective journey type of video, that could provide insight and inspiration to those that are... kinda losing faith in the whole POD thing. What you both have in common aside from POD, is that you are both pro graphic designers who are trying to figure out ways to make design for POD accessible and user friendly to your viewers. As I've studied both of your games, I could go on and on with ideas of videos you both could collab on, but i think any of the above would be a real "value add" to any of us that look up to you guys. Hope it really happens. Peace
Unfortunately I don't have a portfolio so I guess for now displate is not in my wheelhouse... What other sites do you recommend where I can sell posters
Hey Juna, this is my favorite go to POD channel. But I do have a question about this. I love Kittl and use it for everything. I also have a Displate store. But I can't figure out why, no matter how much I upscale or how big I make an image, Displate rejects it when I upload it. I do the size they ask, I upscale, I do 300 dpi, but they just reject every single ai art I try to upload. If I draw something with my Procreate app it is always accepted but not once with ai art. I just wonder what the trick is here to make it a good enough resolution for Displate. So if you have a trick can you tell us? Thank you in advance. I know you are busy too so I wrote them this question too.
@@DetourShirts Thank you for answering Juna. I did not expect you to. I appreciate it. I did write to Displate too and if they answer back I'll post their response here so others know the answer to this too. Again, great channel. Thanks for doing all you do and helping us all learn so much.
@@DetourShirts I know it's something that we can research online, but any advice on how to create a good portfolio? Maybe you can make a video on this topic?
When you change the size to 2900 x 4060 you have to change the dpi to 300 as well, otherwise it will save as only 72 dpi. The problem I am noticing is when I change to 300 dpi a lot of the files are over the maximum size of 30MB required on displate. Is anyone else having this problem.
So when you save in pixels you don't have to worry about the dpi size... it will automatically change it to 300 dpi in Kittl. The dpi is just for when you are saving in inches.
Superb video. However, since we are free members, we are unable to adjust sizes as you did. Only Kittl Premium subscribers have access to that feature.
@@DetourShirts or is it better to create a website with a new portofolio first in my portofio should I share the exact designs that I am gonna post or just past designs?
Hi Juna, I have a question: In this video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9PfGcKaRWbE.html) Drew said that Kittle templates cannot be used on stocks such as Displate. But here you easily created a template and uploaded it to Displate. Honestly, now I'm confused. Thanks for your answer. Oybek
I've been trying to get in like 2 years already, maybe 10-11 times with different e-mails, different portfolios, style etc. I think what matters the most is to have a good following on social media, and not to throw rubbish artworks that nobody will want.
@@alcoshirts - Except, if you already have a good social media presence, you could just use services like Awkward styles and skip the middle, er man entirely. =/
anybody with a club membership here to help? im looking to buy a displate, but im very disappointed that i cant buy my own design without buying 1 random shit plate i dont even want just for the club membership.
