My family always enjoys my pot of all greens together with pepper sauce and cornbread. Smoked neck bones cooked tender, Collards, mustard, turnips and roots not leaving out cabbage at the end. So good...
Paula, most people cook thier meat and greens at the same time. Because they say you waste the floor by cooking the meat first. They cook the meat and the greens or beans all together so they get done all at the same time.
I want some of those greens. I live in Louisiana and I love some good seasoned greens. Those cornmeal dumplings look yummy. I’m gonna write the recipe down.
I grew up here in California on collard, mustard and turnip greens. Years ago, during a food conversation with a Mexican-American co-worker, who was eating a raw turnip sprinkled with salt for lunch, I learned that in the Mexican culture they eat turnips but throw the green leaves of the turnip away! Needless to say I was shocked when I heard that and the co-worker was just as shocked to hear a lot of folks eat the green leaves of the turnips!
@@shellbells339 I was so shocked to hear Mexicans don't eat the turnip leaves, as I thought that was the only way to cook turnips lol. I remember telling my co-worker --you're throwing away the best part!! Yep, it just a preference. 😮😂
I'm a southern food enthusiast but not greens in ham hocks and sweet potatoes in syrup. Concerning the dessert, those popsicles Paula referred to were called Creamsicle. Dreamsicle is an alcoholic drink. Also, when you're making an ice cream layered dish as this, it's really a good idea to allow each layer to freeze before adding the next. It'll make spreading the ice cream and in this case sherbert easier and the end result will be clearer layers when you turn it out. With that in mind, I'm going to make that recipe come summer.
I grew up on candied sweet potatoes and while they were good, I learned as an adult to like plain baked sweet potatoes with just a bit of butter. I introduced sweet potatoes to all three of my boys when they were babies. My father-in-law was flabbergasted when he learned I had made baked sweet potatoes and had NO candied yams of any kind for dinner one time. He actually got mad because I refused to cook them that way. My boys would eat them plain and didn't LIKE them any other way.
Actually, in the South there is/was a frozen treat called a Dreamsicle. Frozen orange sherbet with vanilla ice cream in the center, on a stick. Grew up eating them. Maybe called a Creamsicle in another region of the country or a different manufacturer but yes, there is a Dreamsicle.
Have you compensated Dora Charles for all her hard work for 20 years yet? If not then I'm deleting you from my RU-vid. That is aweful that she lives in a mobile home and you have a huge house when she was a cook for you for 20 years at The Lady and Sons.
