Discover more about Canadian game shows: canadasgameshow...
The Mad Dash is a television game show created by Sidney M. Cohen which first appeared in 1978 on Canada's CTV network and ran until 1985. The series proved to be a family favourite based on Canada's BBM ratings, and was also popular in parts of the northern United States, where CTV affiliates were available to Americans living near the Canada-United States border, both over the air and via cable. Pierre Lalonde was the MC, and Nick Hollinrake was the announcer for the show, which was taped at the studios of CFCF-TV in Montreal. This classic series is included in the collection of Canadian icons in the 2006 feature film Souvenir of Canada based on the book by Douglas Coupland. The series was later rerun on GameTV in Canada, from 2007 to 2010.
Only a handful of episodes still exist, due to the then common practice known as wiping.

I grew up in Niagara Falls, New York, and we got the Canadian stations. I don’t remember watching this very much, but I did watch some of the other Canadian game shows like Bumper Stumpers, Definition, and Super Pay Cards. This is very similar to Video Village from the 1960s.

Wow - this show was crazy wonderful. Disco-esque opening, board game elements, questionable prizes, wacky rules and an overly-excited bell-dinging guy. This may be one of the best game shows of the late 70's/early 80's.

It's a shame that no toy and game company in Canada made a home game version of The Mad Dash. Not that I recall, though. It would have been a HUGE seller had a The Mad Dash home game been made. I would have bought one of it if it were on eBay.

Being from the "Lower 48," I find this show to be so "Canadian"; prizes like" dinner for two" would be considered consolation or throwaway prizes jere; not intended to be a sli we've had our share of cheesy/campy game shows over the years here, too. By American standards, "THE MAD DASH" is like a version of two game shows we had from in the early to mid 1960s "VIDEO VILLAGE" and a derivative that was a game show for kids called "SHENANEGINS" - both are on RU-vid.
